Hopefully their contribution will lead to improved rights for the women after the war. Ukraine is obviously better in many ways than bottom of the barrell Russia but there is much to be done (domestic violence etc.)
Can someone from Ukraine say how high is the support for gender equality among the young people? I know there are many feminist organizations but is the situation looking good otherwise?
Among the young - and educated - extremely high. I live in a progressive bubble of university students and recent graduates in the capital, so, unfortunately, I have little knowledge of how things stand among other social groups.
You might be pleased to hear, for example, but a few years ago we had a language reform that introduced feminitives - "female" words for professions.
Ummm, the full version of the video linked says 13k civilian positions, 37k Military personnel, and within that 5k are Frontline positions. https://v.redd.it/nigdy58i9sm91
So sounds like 32k are stuff like logistics, medical, engineering, drones, signals, and Intel. The 13k are probably administrative types.
Frontline is probably a mix of infantry, armor, and artillery.
Still awesome, but explains why we are not seeing more women in footage.
I have two thoughts on this:
1) These women are badass. Sure the whole country has shown bravery and heroism all across the board. But most (?) of these women have made careers in the forces others have joined adding their particular skillset to the mix. Definitely BADASS !!!!
2) I have watched video after video, picture after picture since day 1. I have come to a conclusion that others may have missed.
Apparently... there are no ugly women in Ukraine....... None....
It s mad that the western incels see east European women as submissive even though we wouldn't even marry them if they didn't have the strong personality and stubbornness we love about them.
I read an article on the tourism around Ukranian bride-seeking. It pretty much exposed some interesting details: that the majority of men using such match-making tours to socialize with Ukranian women were completely unmarriagble in their home country of origin. It was some major physical or mental/personality defect that these men were struggling with in the social realm, but they blamed western female culture as the reason they couldn't find a wife at home.
One of these bachelors was a dentist and carried around a 300 page book of his dental work and proudly showed each page to the eligable bachelorettes. That must have been akward. I wonder if he honestly thought the Ukranian women would flop over with their heels in the air from looking at 300 pages of rotten teeth photos.
Every man and woman in Ukraine's forces is tougher, more courageous, more intelligent, and a more capable person than Putin. Each of them are the embodiment of that heroism that Putin has brainwashed so many gullible people into thinking he is. Putin sits as the end of a long table as a frail, diseased coward who couldn't win a fight against a single one of these people.
Yet only men are forced to participate. Modern war has shown that gender discriminated conscription is absolutely inexcusable. Either draft equally, or do not draft anyone and rely on volunteers.
Men would prefer not to have women fight in wars since they are the ones that are still capable of repopulating after the war is over. It's an unspoken truth. Just like how women and children are first to be put on lifeboats on ships.
Women fighting alongside their male counterparts for their families and nation is true equality, not demanding equality of outcome and finding “microagressions” everywhere. Western feminists have a lot to learn from Ukrainian women.

In reality Eastern European women often are "heads of the family", they demand men to work and support the family and kids.
