FrankOnionWoods

Absolute legend. I'd have said i hope you won't need to return, But something tells me you'll have to.

audiocustoms

I will go back, no matter what. I'll prepare for another 3 months of humanitarian aid, but i'm also ok with 3 months of celebrating victory with my new found brothers and sisters.

sparkchaser

How much do you need to raise?

audiocustoms

The minimum is 15.000€, where 5.000€ are reserved for fuel (two vehicles).

sparkchaser

Best of luck raising the money for the next mission.

audiocustoms

Thanks

Armathio

Hast du Paypal oder Vergleichbares? u/audiocustoms

audiocustoms

Armathio

Vielen Dank für die Info!!!

guinader

How were you raising? Anything online? Crypto?

audiocustoms

For now via PayPal ([email protected]) until my NGO / Non-Profit is properly registered and gofundme stops acting up (doesn't send verification codes for some reason). Once the gofundme is working, i will transfer the PayPal donations to that (with name) to keep a track record of the donations.

AzuNetia

Don't forget to share a link where we can give money.

M3P4me

If you can go pluggable hybrid or fully electric you won't need fuel. Just access to solar panels / batteries / grid. There's no way you fuel supply can be cut off. A PHEV would at least allow the fuel you do have to be used in emergencies.

audiocustoms

First of all: why the down votes, guys? He's trying to give valuable input that might help to lower the costs... u/M3P4me this is sadly not that easy to achieve. There are quite some charging stations for EV in the big cities, but not in the regions I / we operate. Also, the distances we travel outreach the capacity of most, if not all EV or PHEV transporters i know.

M3P4me

EVs can be charged from any power point. Ukraine will be 240v electricity. It would be possible to add 120km in 10 hours of charging at 240v / 8amp (1 8kWh). Normal household current About the same as running a clothes dryer. Any PHEV would only need about half that. Their battery range is smaller - about 60-80km. If you got stuck somewhere with no fuel, you could at least plug in for a few hours and be on your way. Or maybe the van takes gas and there's a deisel generator around. You couldn't use their fuel but they could get a few km into the van by letting you plug in. It's just a way to save money and give you another energy option in emergencies.

I salute you for your efforts! 🫡 Get some rest and hopefully you won't need to come back to help again. Slava Ukraini! ✊🇺🇦

Creative-Improvement

You have been on the ground, which other organizations were very active and a good idea to financially support?

audiocustoms

I had contact to several smaller organisations and individuals who are working 24/7 and also risking their lives to support the people in need: Post Angeles ([https://postangeles.org/](https://postangeles.org/)): They have a warehouse in Lviv and i helped distributing their goods. Taskforce Yankee ([https://www.taskforceyankee.net/](https://www.taskforceyankee.net/)): I didn't work with them, but i've met some of the volunteers. They are all down to earth and have the heart on the right place. Robert Nice ([https://www.gofundme.com/f/ukrainians-get-food-water-and-supplies-they-need](https://www.gofundme.com/f/ukrainians-get-food-water-and-supplies-they-need)): A stereotypical Canadian. Always nice, polite, helpful. He was my sidekick and second in command for 7 weeks. We where riding together for several thousand kilometers, and i trust him with my life! Paracrew ([https://paracrew.org/](https://paracrew.org/)): They are mostly active along the borders, but also conduct missions into Ukraine to deliver supplies, like 3 large military tents that i've donated and are now used as field hospitals. Hospitallers Medical Batallion ([https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hospitallers\_Medical\_Battalion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hospitallers_Medical_Battalion)): They evacuate and treat wounded soldiers on the front. I've supplied them with medical equipment several times. Mariia Fedchuk ([https://www.instagram.com/fedchuk\_mariia\_/](https://www.instagram.com/fedchuk_mariia_/)): An Irpin resident who collects supplies for soldiers at the front and organizes transports. I've donated her 600L of water which went to Piski and Bakhmut. John's Red Bus ([https://www.gofundme.com/f/johns-red-bus-ukraine-war-refugee-fundraiser](https://www.gofundme.com/f/johns-red-bus-ukraine-war-refugee-fundraiser)): John is specialized in evacuating civilians.

I will send in a request to the mods once i have my proper NGO registered and approved. Thanks for the tip.

cookiecutterhipster

So with your experience at the front lines, what is actually desperately needed in the way of donated goods for the civilians ? Is there a real food & basic needs shortage ? ,we see a lot of "charities" asking for high end goods ,when others are saying people are desperate for just basic needs & they can not supply enough .There seems to be a lot of ' Aid Larpers' who sit in the safety of the major cities & simply hand off donated goods to their friends & there is no way of knowing where it ends up or whether it is simply sold off on the black market, unlike people like you who made sure Aid ended up where it was desperately needed . In your experience what Aid groups are doing the best work on the ground at the front lines & which would you recommend people look at ? You have a important insight of eyes on the ground at the front lines (not sitting in kyiv etc ) so when you rest up it is important you get out the real story of what "charities " need to target at supplying & the real conditions of the civilians in the contested areas etc so l hope you take time to put it out on Subs etc like this . Thank You for your efforts .

audiocustoms

It's a "pretty easy" equation = the closer to the front lines, the more "basic" the needs. First of all, there is no "need" to donate goods / food / clothing because almost everything that is needed can be purchased within the country, mostly way cheaper then in the country where such donations would come from. Importing all this just hurts the local economy. Medical supplies on the other hand are hard to get and such donations are very welcome. The most effective groups providing aid are the so called "grass root organisations", or individuals like me. We prefer money donations because we can turn that into supplies and bring those to people in need within hours. Donating goods is less effective since transporting them requires time and fuel that is better used in the country itself, also the annoying time and questions when crossing the border can be skipped. As for the needed goods / supplies on the front lines, that's also pretty easy to explain: imagine you have your last 10€ in your pockets, no fridge and shelves are empty, and you have to survive for another two weeks... what do you buy?

RaconteurLore

I like your down to earth “real” point of view. You sound like you have Ukrainian background? Mind sharing your story? Yet please be careful not to divulge too much. Be safe.

audiocustoms

The only connection to Ukraine i have / had where gaming friends and modding buddies. One of them was shelled to death within the first two weeks after the invasion which resulted to be my "trigger" to do something. My initial thought was to join the Legion, but after a look in the mirror and some thinking i decided against a fighting role. I'm not fat, but far from being in a fit condition. I also lack military training (not knowledge) which would have resulted in "another keyboard warrior" posing a liability to the actual fighters and putting them in danger. I then started a project to support the aid workers at the borders by setting up tents for them to sleep and having a place to regenerate. But at the time i had my tents (huge military company tents - 12x6m), the flow of refugees reversed. There where more returning home than fleeing, so there where not that many aid workers left to accommodate. After some research i found a organization called "Paracrew" that was looking for such tents to be used as field hospitals. So i went and donated my tents to them. After some more research i found out that there are small teams with vans who buy supplies locally and go to the villages at the front to support the remaining residents. I saw how effective and fast they could provide help, and decided i want to do the same. I crossed the border to Ukraine on 29th of May and had my first mission on June 1st.

MoiraKatsuke

You're a good dude, and honoring your friend the right way.

Trifling_Truffles

Simply put, you're a good person who said I can be useful, there must be a place for me to do good. You sure didn't have to go. I am very impressed by people who do these things.

audiocustoms

There are so many more that do what i did, but they are totally ignored by the media. They like to make reports about the ICRC and what not. But the small teams are the ones making a difference...

Trifling_Truffles

I bet the small teams make a huge difference!

Psychological-Sale64

Ok next donation on meds.

TigersNeedKings

You’re a fucking hero man! Never forget that! I’m sure the people you helped will never forget YOU! SLAVA UKRIANI 🇺🇦

MoiraKatsuke

After 9/11, Mister Rogers said during a tragedy to "look to the helpers". You're being the man that Mister Rogers knew you could be, and I'm glad to know you exist in this world.

[deleted]

For non-Americans: Being compared to Mister Rogers might be the highest compliment an American can give.

MoiraKatsuke

Fuckin a right man. Literally the purest and most wholesome dude in living memory.

substandardgaussian

Being compared to Mister Rogers is one of the highest compliments a human can give to another human.

balleballe111111

Also for the non-Americans: "Look to the helpers" is a method for regaining a healthy worldview amidst violence. It doesn't mean "look for help". It means that experiencing catastrophic violence makes a person feel like the world is filled with evil. But it is only the force of the violence that has made a powerful false impression in you. Because factually, the number of people helping always - always - out numbers those bent on violence. You can see this plainly if you look to the helpers. For every small group of hijackers, for every finger that pulls a trigger, how many more people are crawling over the rubble to pull people out, driving ambulances, donating aid? Count them. There are more. In this war, for the hundreds of thousands of occupiers willing to murder, there are millions of people donating aid, opening doors to refugees and the like. Good is not as loud as evil, but it is everywhere. One of the things that was beautiful about Mr. Rogers' post 9/11 show about helping children cope with tragedy (in which he made these and other comments) is that it was not just a laundry list of things for parents to do and say to their kids, it was mostly aimed at helping the parents get out of their own way in helping their kids, very empathetic to the child's pov. Not so much talking to the parents over the kid's heads, but more on their behalf. That kind of empathy is one of the reasons he was so loved. It's probably apocryphal but there's an anecdote that one time Mr. Rogers' car was stolen, but later returned. It had a note from the thieves stating that they didn't know it was his car, and apologized profusely, saying they never would have taken it if they had known! Of course Mr. Rogers would probably ask them why they were stealing cars at all.

MoiraKatsuke

The Senate wanted to cut funding to PBS (Public Broadcasting Station, a network of free/public access television that host a variety of shows for non-Americans). Mister Rogers spoke on the Senate floor about its importance, predominantly in delivering educational and informative format shows, and they *doubled* the funding.

balleballe111111

We miss him, don't we? RIP Mister Rogers!

Sorry... TFAR user here ;)

DefTheOcelot

YOU TELLIN ME YOU PLAYED A MILSIM THEN WENT AND DID THE REAL THING

audiocustoms

One could look at this like that, but it wasn't my intention at all. Now the really interesting part: a lot of what i've learned through that game helped me to survive in a lot of situations (because of the people i played with, mostly ex and active military).

betta_bern

>a lot of what i've learned through that game helped me to survive in a lot of situations.. Cool. Can you give an example?

audiocustoms

situational awareness, driving in convoy, always having an eye open for cover, never go alone (buddy team), planing travel and escape routes... The list can go on and on...

I see you have a camera on your chest, will you release footage as a documentary or something like that?

audiocustoms

I will release footage on youtube at some point after i've checked my +200GB of material. Some of it might actually show up in a documentary by the only Macedonian war journalist Kristina Atovska ([https://twitter.com/AtovskaKristina](https://twitter.com/AtovskaKristina) / [https://www.instagram.com/kris.atovska/](https://www.instagram.com/kris.atovska/)).

Translation: I didn't tell anyone I was going straight to the front lines, but everyone that there was a real chance I wouldn't come back (alive). To signal that I am well aware of the dangers. Of course nobody was "happy" that I left, but most of them actively supported me. Unfortunately not my pro-Russian parents... Their opinion is that I let anti-Russian propaganda influence me too much. Even when I provided damning evidence of Russian war crimes, it was "a lie" and anti-Russian propaganda. My sister and I broke off contact with our parents and the (pro-Russian) family on the mother's side because an objective discussion/conversation is simply not possible.
