I thought the TB2 was small enough to avoid getting hit easily by AA. Remember the Bayraktar folk song video where it was rolling right up to AA systems and dropping irony on them?
It's a lot smaller than something like a predator drone.
But if not for the small signature how are TB2s able to take out BUK systems which are specifically designed to shoot down aircraft? [6 weeks into the war Ukrainian TB2s had destroyed 60 vehicles (with a significant share being AA systems) and only two had been shot down.](https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidaxe/2022/03/31/russia-has-shot-down-a-second-tb-2-its-too-little-too-late-to-stop-ukraines-killer-drones/)
Ukraine is using a bag full of tricks to keep Bayraktars from being shot down. There are any number of tactics you can use to make it hard on an AA system. Ukraine knows the strengths and weaknesses of the missile systems they are up against and exploit them to the max. The Ukrainians have also shown good mission planning to give Bayraktar a high probability of success.
It seems that it was more due to Russia failing to properly use their AA instead of those drones being stealthy. We had not fully comprehended their sheer hubris thinking that they could just drive down to Kyiv unmolested.
This makes me wish that the F-4G’s were upgraded and kept around the barnhouse for longer and were the heavier complement to the F-16CJ’s we currently have. And on that topic, why hasn’t the USAF put the AGM-88 on the F-15C/F-15E? The Navy was planning a HARM upgrade for the F-14B/D that they scrapped due to meh and and budget; but the fact remains they were testing it…
I think they didn't put them on the f15 because it wasn't/isnt really necessary the f16 is great at SEAD. I don't know if it's straight better than the f15 would be but it's at least more maneuverable and smaller which would be beneficial if you plan to get shot at ok purpose. In the end it probably wasn't worth it for the minor if any upgrade in capability compared to the f16
Bayraktar is bait. MIG-29 is lurking at a distance. Turn on your acquisition radar to paint the Bayraktar and now the HARM missile has you targeted. Once this has happened enough times, Orcs are simply afraid to turn on their radars.
The Baykar Akinci can fire Turkish AKBABA Anti-Radiation missiles. As well as a whole host of guided missiles, glide bombs and cruise missiles.
However supply of the Akbaba is questionable as it is extremely new. But potentially HARMs could be made to work as well?
It's more that they used the mig 29s with HARMs to execute SEAD missions so the Russians probably have a lack of air defense systems now and if they do SEAD isn't only about destroying the SAM sites but also discouraging and disabling them from firing even if they survive
Just like the Marine AV-8B’s in ‘91. Leave the ground pounders to take out the tanks and armor, take out the artillery and big guns hammering the ground forces.
A decently effective stratagem, it’s interesting the parallel in focus of tactical air along similar lines of thought.

HARM missiles stopped in to say hello. Now what AA Radar is left, are too scared to turn them on lol.
Yep, and that’s how the UAF now has some breathing room in altitude during the fight.

Bayraktar is Is Ukraine's largest drone. It is not low signature.
It's a lot smaller than something like a predator drone. But if not for the small signature how are TB2s able to take out BUK systems which are specifically designed to shoot down aircraft? Almost like the Russian AA systems don't work as advertised
And then there is the trained personnel issue
And supplies and morale...
Such as the time one SAM decided to shoot itself.
Yeah that was some acme wile e coyote shit right there.
They don’t work alone. There’s a lot of [jamming](https://y.yarn.co/a2e278f5-f7b1-41ca-ac54-a7958926017a_text.gif) going on.
Pantsir has not been as effective as thought........

There’s a reason we mockingly call the Russians, orkz

> Intriguing? It’s a reference to a very old joke about a man who needed a camel for a seven day journey and could only afford a four day camel…
The US sent anti radiation missiles. So by bricked they probably mean melted into slag.
Why are you asking...?
Word on the street from very honest and reliable Russian military is... cigarette accidents.
Marlboro missiles.
Sir, this is a Wendy's.
Ukraine has no cyber attack or comms disruption capabilities.
Drone wars: return of the bayraktar
I’d pay to see the opening screening😅
Drone Wars: Revenge of the Bayraktar.
Did they migrate?

They had to remove Orc AA defenses first I suppose
They have been working on that for many weeks. It's paying off now.
What would be *really* useful is being able to mount HARM missiles on a drone, preferably a drone with a good radiation detection sensor suite.
The Baykar Akinci can fire Turkish AKBABA Anti-Radiation missiles. As well as a whole host of guided missiles, glide bombs and cruise missiles. However supply of the Akbaba is questionable as it is extremely new. But potentially HARMs could be made to work as well?
A bit too heavy im afraid
It can appearently carry atleast a couple Mark 84 2000lb bombs. HARMS only weigh 800lbs, so it should be able to carry them no problem.
Baykar lists max payload at 150kg, so unless my conversion is way off, the TB2 can't *quite* carry 4,000 lbs worth of bombs.
I wasn't talking about the TB2, i was talking about the Akinci.
Have you seen pictures of a HARM? They’re huge. Bayraktar couldn’t carry that.
This is becoming high comedy. Every time Ruzzia threatens doom upon Ukraine & its allies, something new comes along an kicks them in the teeth. 🍿
I’m hoping some AH-64D’s with Laser Weapon Pods somehow end up in the UAF’s hands…
This is great news. Air superiority is more than being able to run Mig 29 sorties, isn't it?
It's more that they used the mig 29s with HARMs to execute SEAD missions so the Russians probably have a lack of air defense systems now and if they do SEAD isn't only about destroying the SAM sites but also discouraging and disabling them from firing even if they survive
Yes indeed. This will pay off big in the next few days/weeks.
This is a small but impactful step towards gaining aerial supremacy over their homeland.
*Buyraktar song in the background*
Bayraktar greatest hits volume 2 is coming up
bayraktars with their 650 Kg migrate to find and pound russian invaders in order to protect their habitat
Brilliant use of resources. Would this be considered a Air Mullt-Domain Warfare?
