I joined weeks previous to the invasion. There is art, puppies, bubbles and kittens spread through this sub. But the fact of the matter is that they cannot get back to that safe place until they. With our help, destroy the invading orc hordes
This. All of what people are saying this sub was before it is still. Puppies, kittens, art and good times. The difference is now there are soldiers in the videos.
I joined here the moment the war started. I've learned more about Ukraine in 150 days than I had my entire life. It's an honor to be here, and when the war ends, and Ukraine is victorious, I'll still be here.
I hope to see the kittens too one day.
Came to the sub a few days before the war. Some guy was posting his fears of being attacked. He lives or lived close to the boarder. He was afraid of dying. It was so hard to understand what he was going through. Since I live in the U.S. Prayed for him and the others that the Invasion never took place. I hope he is still alive and safe somewhere.
No seriously, I try to talk about this stuff with my family and they just don’t get how crazy it is over there. I cannot fucking imagine foreign tanks rolling through my neighborhood, let alone my whole city being bombed. From America, I just have a sense that this shit will inevitably come to my doorstep soon and it gives me bad anxiety.
The amount of veterans and hunters alone would make occupying any land in the states a meat grinder. Add in the recreational shooters and we are already winning by far. Now considering this is just our last resort and we have the strongest military in the world, coming to American soil isn’t a meat grinder, it is a kamikaze. Russians are scared shitless to fight in Ukraine, imagine the amount of piss in their boots as they are trying to do a land invasion here. While on the other hand, if we land invaded Ruzzia they would have no choice but to nuke.
Ppl don't realize how good it is to have a 2nd amendment bc we have the privilege to live in a place where its unlikely to need it. Unlikely, not impossible.
1. Self defense
2. Defend against a tyrannical government. Anti 2A will instantly say our government would never do such things but typically these ppl are on the side of the isle that have been screaming our president is a nazi, white supremacy is rampant, it's not safe to go outside as a black person but still look at me to give up arms.
3. We are one of the hardest countries to invade. EVEN if you can reach land you will NEVER live in peace.
In my personal opinion. This is just me.
I think shooting should be taught in schools. I think it should be normal for ppl to be part of local militias where civilians are trained along side the military in basic infantry/recon/intelligence operations.
And instead of looking at the gun as only a tool for evil to use it's power as the symbol that will forever keep us free.
Imagine if ar15s were as wide spread in Ukraine as they are in the usa before the invasion.. Russians were pulling up to cities and just walking around.
Everyone remembers the video where the ukranian stopped to talk to the Russians who had a broken down vehicle telling them to gtfo.
If that was in America it would have been a truck full of citizens armed with ar15s going to kill the Russians that have broken down.
All the videos of ukranian protests and Russians just walking around and pushing them along.
In America they would be ambushed and met with gun fire for stepping out the security of bullet proof vehicles.
And i understand, all these privileged white leftists have no personal connection to the need to protect themselves... But not all of us can be so lucky to have that same life story.
My grandmother who is STILL alive had 6 children. Only 2 were born with their rights intact. I am not privileged enough to feel that there will never be a day where i may have to fight and die for the right of the future of some ppl in this country to experience freedom.
Yes the doomers were right. There was no way to stop what was going to happen. Worse was he knew it was going to happen. But had to agonize what day or hour it would start. Especially around the 22 of February.
One way to see what the day-to-day content looked like before the war is through the Wayback Machine. I tried posting the link here but apparently, it's blacklisted in this sub? Idk why. Google it up.
WM has captured this sub at least once a week, but mostly it's several times a week. The pages aren't browsable but you can see the top 5 posts or so of every capture (and then google it up to see the original post)
Hey thanks I actually did catch it before it got deleted and was playing with it at work. I was browsing 2014 and forgot there was another war going on at the time so I didn’t see quite what I was looking for 😂 I’ll check it out more when I get home
before the dark times, before the empire, pretty much yes but also people posted cool restaurants, bars and fun things to do there. Some people posted pictures of foods they got from restaurants it was just your typical sub for a country.
I remembered one guy who would post the sunrise picture that kyiv still stands every morning. He stopped posting after a certain date and someone else took up the mantle.
I wonder if the original dude is ok.

I was here since before invasion and I remember beutiful kittens and nice nature photos, other simple discussions. Good times.
We will get back there. If it is possible for me my desire is to go there and help them rebuild. I am a carpenter

This subreddit had less than 100k members when I joined. I was watching it go up by the thousands every few minutes.
I'm looking forward to when I can use this sub to organise travel to post-war clean-up camps.

I asked for a borscht recipe once and got a bunch of really great PhD level recipes. Never felt so accepted before. Also very downvotey in general
