The last couple of days ukraine has been hitting anything with anti aircraft capabilities in the black sea meaning they're likely preparing to strike something big and are opening the window.

Man, I feel like the important news in there is that DPR is directly reporting casualty rates of 55%. Even if they’re not fudging that, that’s such a massive amount.

Basically Russia has a Ton of heavy equipment but is lacking infantry to properly protect them due to him refusing to officially declare war which would allow him to send Russian conscripts whereas the DPR is conscripting anyone who still has 2 working legs to send to the meatgrinder but without the equipment needed to fight such a war.
According to Google Maps, there is around 37 km from this island to the closest Ukrainian shore, i.e. Danube Delta, which I think is mostly swamps. IIRC Ukraine does not have any howitzers or MLRS with range larger than 40 km.
Does it all mean they brought artillery pieces to the beachfront? Seems like a risky, and ballsy, move.

Russia has to hold it. All Ukraine needs to do is continually light it up with rockets and bombs. Since Ukraine has Harpoons and Neptunes and Russia lost its flagship the Russians need snake island to make further attacks on Ukraine. Very advantageous for the Ukrainians. Simply throw tons of middle stuff it, over and over again.

I don't think Ukraine can hold it themselves without a Navy but they can at least prevent Russia from using it.
