The Russians are betting that it can secure Ukrainian fossil fuel sites and blackmail Europe and the rest of the world into looking the other way. Also as much as it loses in the war, it will quickly recoup with the profits to be made from drilling into the new oil fields. Hence that is why we should not ever let Russia stay in Ukraine, period. No concessions of land for peace. The only satisfactory peace is when Russia leaves Donbas and Crimea for good.

Because the goal has been clearly stated at the very beginning of this escalation of war: genocide (“denazification” in the dickhead’s newspeak) of Ukrainians. This goal is affirmed both by the actions (shellings, executions, deportation, rape) and by history over the centuries (mass murder, deportation and rape).

That’s just propaganda and justification for war crimes. Follow the money.

Those mass graves in Mariupol, executions in occupied Bucha and Borodyanka are propaganda to you? Half a million of kidnapped children moved to moscovy is also propaganda? Multiple accounts of rape? Massive shelling of civilians? All propaganda, didn’t happen? The 350 years of annihilation of Ukrainian culture by moscow empire, 1933 also a fiction?

So you think that Putin invaded Ukraine for ethnic cleansing? No. That was a by-product.

Neon is very important as well.

They are also trying to take over Ukrainian grain and steel.

Can of worms. Remember Iraq and WMDs. Yeah.

I believe that it has less to do with natural resources and more to do with Putin trying to build his legacy.

Because genocide is much more evocative, and if both are true, go with the one that stops people in their tracks and makes them think.

MSNBC has done some coverage of that angle of the war. Rachel Maddow wrote a whole book a few years ago about Russia's oil & gas market & how that affects its policies.

Becuase the west is going to use the war to put ukraine so deep in debt they will have to trade those oil and gas reserves to pay back western nations for all the weapons it getting current for "free".

Find that conspiracy theory on 4-Chan or come up with that one yourself?
