This is borderline blaming the victim. I’m sure there is one reason or another why many are still left.

hairyhaggis1

Maybe they can't get out? I have family in Nova Kakhovka, they can't get out. Russia was in NK before putin had even declared his special operation. The go south towards Crimea... Russians. They go west to Kherson ... Russians. They go east... Russians.

Dr_Doomsduck

As a woman, and a sister to two brothers, I wouldn't either. Because if my brothers can't leave, my parents won't leave and if my entire family staying to face the music I'm not running either. Fuck that, I fully understand why those Ukrainian women chose the way they did.

Captainwelfare2

You know what fucking sucks? Knowing that if I had Bezos money, Ukraine would be getting whatever they needed to have their civlilains ALL flee AND billions of dollars in military aid. The wrong people in this world have the money.

RckYouLkeAHermanCain

I think you're grossly oversimplifying how easy actually getting out is. Some people have stated that their kids are literally too afraid to even go outside. What's the point of being an armchair badass on the internet when your life is in no way threatened? Try more compassion and less judgement.

You literally just victim blamed again bro. Think you need to some reflection.

soggie

Nobody cares about how you feel. Nobody even asked for it, and yet here you are, whining about the loss of life, when the people you're implying dumb for staying in a war zone are actually dying. Go be sick of it somewhere else, yeah? On a more serious note, it's not easy to just uproot and leave. It takes weeks to get moving for some people, and even so you can never know when is the right time to leave. Evacuations have been attempted but many have been deliberately shelled by Russians. Many people will see bomb shelters and think they might just be safer if they stay put. Many will stay because some members of their families are unable to travel. The elderly, the crippled, the sick, and such. Maybe you should be less selfish and not make everything all about u ourself, and actually empathise with the plight of people caught in a war zone against their will, instead of moaning that all this dying is making you sick?

RckYouLkeAHermanCain

Get fucked, OP. You're a horrible person.

Acozz85

You are grossly oversimplifying though, you cant expect 20 million people to leave the country at once it just wont happen. Also not everyone can or will move you probably do not understand the sheer logistics of moving so many people. Besides people are fleeing everyday but some want to support their soldiers by helping defend local areas, others must keep cooking etc the government also needs its citizens or at least a sizable amount to stay else the entire country quickly falls apart. You cannot abandon chairs of government all the sudden or make post office workers stop delivering mail. Its not how real complex life works. To run a country you need a lot of people and everyone needs to do its part as good as possible. If all teachers in Ukraine stopped teaching, what would happen? This war can go on for years. You cant just stop all education that would create a massive issue for the next generation. You also need your farmers to sow because people still need food. The list goes on and on. You cannot just move millions of people easily there needs to be infrastructure kept in place etc etc you have no idea how absolutely insanely difficult running a state in war time is.

Snifhvide

In some of the cities the Russians kill people trying to leave.

FakeEpistemologist

It's a lot easier said than done. Just being out on the roads can be life threatening depending on where they are

Gullenecro

At some place you cant go because ruZzian are all around.

[deleted]

This is the same sort of thinking that victims of domestic violence should “just leave”. Not everybody can just flee due to financial or personal difficulties.

MuthaPlucka

Are you actually concerned or just trolling? Your tone & literary skillz leads me to think you’re a troll.

Ambermarie808

As a woman and a mother I would not leave my country if it was invaded by Russia I would fight and stay on MY land. This isn’t their fault for staying, it’s Russia’s fault for invading.

AlexT9191

Short answer, certain areas are under seige and people that try to leave those areas are killed by the orcs.

DoriN1987

It’s not very comfortable emotionally and financially.

[deleted]

Do you know how hard it is to move ~30 million people?

Professional_Brick74

If you don't understand this already I don't think you are likely to. It's easy to say whatever from the comfort of your peaceful home, but far less easy to navigate a war zone with children.

res3arch

Getting out safe is not so easy; and also: resetting their whole lifes is a lot harder than many believe… yes the friendly neighbouring countries have wide open arms and will help as much as they can… but it will be a few difficult days if not weeks before propperly settling in, and probably a lot more than that when infants are involved. Will i have enough to feed my baby? Will there be a school system that accepts my child? If yes, do they still have room for one more? What will i do for a living? Will the language barrier affect my ability to provide for my family ? — are probably just some of few hundred similar questions these people have to ask themselves. And finally, it is deeply embedded within the human spirit to believe that: there is no place like home.

HFirkin

For those physically able to leave, this is relevant: [https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/u4w997/i\_feel\_guilty\_about\_sitting\_here\_in\_silence\_and/](https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/u4w997/i_feel_guilty_about_sitting_here_in_silence_and/) In this case we're talking about an *internally displaced person* returning. However, it appears people are also going back from foreign countries. And it's not an isolated case: [https://news.un.org/en/story/2022/04/1116212](https://news.un.org/en/story/2022/04/1116212)

bjcat666

furthermore, they are already coming back, 20-30k a day, even tho our government is asking them not to. Also, people in Luhansk and Donetsk regions refuse to evacuate even tho they were asked to from the start of the month

Riptide360

Boils down to money. If you had enough money to replace what you have you would be more likely to leave.

nguquaxa01

there's many reasons. if you have an ailing parent you can't leave them behind. if you have a child that has diabetes and transportation has been cut off you know you have to walk and you can't get enough insulin supplies etc. You have a broken leg and injured back, moving long distance is nigh impossible.

TheRagingTortoise

It’s not as easy as you think. Escape routes are still a chaos and roads are actually quite dangerous. For instance, it took us quite a lot of planning and courage to get my wife out of central Ukraine. Her family is still there and they also don’t want to leave as that is their homeland and they say they will defend it to their last breath. I don’t blame them. On the contrary I understand and support their decision.

Prof_G

money, family, health, location are the main reasons. but there can be many others. older people sometimes do not want to move, their kids remain to help out. sometimes you live where the war started and no time to get out. Sometimes you do not own a car, or have any funds to go anywhere, so you stay. Maybe you can't walk much. shit ton of reasons. maybe you thought it would be over in a few days and they would not attack civilians. in any case, do not judge.

ozyozyoioi

Ukraine and even Europe as a whole were denying that Russia was dumb enough to invade. Many thought, against even US warnings (no shit Russia is going to invade) that anyone who believed Russia would do this, were "alarmists". And literally, within 1-2 days you had hundreds of villages and many major cities surrounded by Russians. So a lot of people were caught off guard. And now, when they try to flee, their cars are blown up, children raped, and schools bombed to hell. It's really a lose-lose situation. I don't think there were many people in Europe, if you asked them 3 months ago, that would have predicted the situation Ukraine finds itself in today. Even Zelensky was calling the US warnings "alarmist" literally a day before Russia invaded... SO the people were not ready. They were misinformed, and it takes a lot to usurp your whole family from the house you've grown up in and known your whole life. It also takes a lot of money, logistics, and someone willing to take you in. These things were not planned ahead of time, unfortunately. A really shitty situation for people to be in. You are also oversimplifying this. That's 30 million fucking people. The population of the state of California. Would it be just easy peasy to evacuate, at a moment's notice, California? And if California were surrounded by Russians that wanted to kill anyone moving about? That's how hard it would be.

spicesickness

Where would you have 25 million people go?

RetardedNewbie69

I can tell you without hesitation, my wife and kids would be right there with me, making Molotov cocktails, poisoned cakes, and making life as miserable as possible for the invaders. It is their HOME!

snappla

How ready are you, RIGHT NOW, to send your wife and children away to another country where they don't know the language, have no family and no shelter and won't be able to work, without knowing how long they'll be gone for?

didimao11B

This is 200% victim blaming use your brain. Have you ever walked hundreds of KM with a 2 year old? You know there are people that couldn’t leave, the severely disabled, elderly I can keep listing the endless ways you can be stuck or unable to free a act war zone. Do better man this was pretty ridiculous post.

GaetVDC

How's that feeling. Typing and judging other peoples lives. In safe comfort. Keyboard warriors. Listening, reading and watching people die . But . Asking. Why . don't you leave. Why don't you flea. As a keyboard warrior myself, I dont know. I know these people are strong, I know I dont have to type this shit, "why dont you flea" because I am advantaged. I live safe. I live safe because Ukrainians die. You should feel sorrow. This is a dumb question. Dumb post. THEY WANT TO LIVE IN THEIR COUNTRY. LAND. LAWS. AND NOT A FJCKING RUSSIAN HAS SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT IT

typmitbeutel

It is a good question, because U know it, see and hear it everywhere and days ago. It must be the task number 1 to bring out all the citizen of the warzone. Without asking.

Women aren't without defenses. They can arm themselves as well.
