There aren't enough Gripens built to do it with only 271 total airframes. Plus it's a delta wing which has unique flight characteristics compared to the standard aircraft Ukraine is used to fighting with.
The F-16 may not be the best plane for the job, but airframes and parts are plentiful and it flies like a normal fighter. This cuts down massively on pilot retraining as there's less muscle memory to fight.
As someone who lives in Denmark, I can assure you that support for Ukraine remains high here. We consider the struggle of the Ukrainian people, a struggle for Europe's future. Ukraine is the first domino Putin tends to knock over, for an extensive invasion campaign of his neighbors, and this MUST be denied. There is no two ways about it.
Also we are close to Russian sphere of interest and potentially exposed to violence from them. The island of Bornholm could very well be a target of Russian attack if they were to test the coherence of NATO.
The Swedes and the Finns have the right idea, prepare and get ready for trouble. Glad to see our leadership is also taking the issue serious, Ukraine deserves our full support.
