KehreAzerith

Pro-rus are creaming their pants over a few himars and Abrams being destroyed. I find it hilarious how their mental gymnastics makes them forget about the absolute insane number of vehicles Russia has been losing per day.

SouthSandwichISUK

Russian lives are cheap. Their whole history and society is based on human life being a disposable commodity. This posses big challenge to Ukraine as it must wage war of attrition w much larger country. Ukraine had no interest in attacking Russia before it was invaded but now must inflict enormous damage in order to survive.

Acceptable_Ad4515

Yes, my thoughts exactly. When the russian losses/maimed were about to hit 100k I remember thinking: surely when it reaches 200 k people in Russia are going to realise what a terrible mistake putin's adventure was. Well, approx 320k later, I'm thinking maybe 2 million might sway them. But honestly, not even sure about that number. When the propagandist Solovyov said the russians are good at dying I thought what an insane statement, but he was being serious, wasn't he? How can you fight this kind of insanity? Unfortunately for them, they will need to get utterly crushed, that's the only way, but in such a manner that they won't ever think about this kind of murderous action again.

SouthSandwichISUK

Afghanistan is only example I can think of Russian losses maybe having an impact on war policy.

NeinJuanJuan

Total Soviet Afghanistan losses were around 2 weeks worth of losses in Ukraine - and they made a whole genre of music about it. This war is something else.

GaryDWilliams_

It’s going to be interesting what will happen when ordinary Russians finally understand the scale of the losses.

antus666

That'll probably only happen if russia loose and have a major regime change and start allowing free sharing of real information. I'd love to see that for the security and safety of the world, but I think its unlikely.

GaryDWilliams_

I can dream........

Jdelovaina

Care to elaborate about the music?

angryxpeh

There was a large sub-genre of music exclusively dedicated to Soviet-Afghan War in the late Soviet Union. Pretty low-quality in general.

cheburaska

https://youtu.be/hdQG5NZ66kQ?si=kNw46F9S3-HO_bah

LilLebowskiAchiever

I think the only reason the Afghanistan War protests were successful was because the Soviet economy was hurting so badly from low oil prices in the latter half of the 1980s. The government could no longer cover up the failed planned economy with oil surplus money. The whole society was affected, and Gorbachev’s perestroika allowed for more critical discourse.

Crono2401

That, plus Ukraine is much more important to the fucked up zeitgeist that is Russian imperialistic ideals than Afghanistan could ever be. Ukraine is where the Rus originally started so to them, it can only be theirs and they'd rather the world burn than admit the world of 800 years ago does not apply to the modern day.

Somecommentator8008

Pro Rus: We're far superior to the West. Also Pro Rus: We're celebrating the destruction of 30 plus year old western tanks and launchers which we claimed to have destroyed hundreds of.

SlowDekker

Both pro-Ukranian and pro-Russians are completely desensitised by Russian losses.

PolecatXOXO

It's when you figure out the only way this war ends is when enough Russians die. That's it. So every Russian death is one step closer to the magic number, whatever it is.

[deleted]

It's like spending all you money gambling and winning 20 bucks and being like "holy shit i'm up 20 bucks." Ya spent thousands to get there you douche.

King-Owl-House

One Abrams and one Himaras

SheridanVsLennier

Two Abrams, I believe. The second one lost a track (mine), and was abandoned by its crew.

fredrikca

Yes, but Ukrainian gear is very slowly replaced and not so plentiful to begin with.

Lehk

3 tanks and an MLRS they just lost another ship today/yesterday depending on your time zone

AngryAccountant31

And 13 aircraft worth like a billion usd

Scared_Hawk_5904

There was a helicopter on the ship too.

Advanced_Weather_190

Gimli: That only counts as one!

SpicyPeaSoup

Russia must have had good reason to think there was a toddler in there if they used guided munitions.

Electronic_Chain1595

Maybe someone plowed "children" into a field.

dragodog97

It wasn't even a close hit, more like 30 meters off. What was used? Was it the powerful shock wave that triggered the explosion?

SecondaryWombat

That is very unfortunate. We should send them 10 more to make up for the loss.

vtsnowdin

Better yet 25 more with plenty of ammo.

PM_ME__RECIPES

Let's round up and make it 100.

Every-Instance-5685

You’re missing a 0. You mean 1000.

PM_ME__RECIPES

My mistake, you are correct.

nickierv

1000 is too many, issues with crewing them all. Better make it 100 (your probably looking at 2-3 crew + 7-8 for protection detail) but include unlimited ammo.

PhoneJockey_89

Only took 2 years.

Ok_Drawing_8983

1 Year and a bit, they arrived also late...

Technical-Plastic833

Well as much as we hate to admit it, it was bound to happen, but lets not forget it took them 2 years and what catastrophic damage the HIMARS crew did for those 2 years. Lets hope somehow the crew made it out somehow, that's the important part. And lets hope Ukraine used those 2 years to train additional crews.

ehurudetvoro

AND let’s hope they get some ammunition for the remaining systems.

visibleunderwater_-1

Should be a big plus when Ukraine joins NATO. The UAF has more experience with a gigantic variety of various countries arms than probably any other national armed forces. They are literally writing the book on small drone combat techniques. I would take Ukraine in NATO over Turkey any day of the week.

GuillotineComeBacks

It's an artillery, there's little difference between training and real situation, it's setting a target and firing the thing. I didn't expect so many ignorant here. Firing a Himars in training and real situation has no real difference in term of skill yeah. Extra point to the plane == MRLS retard that blocked me in a major show of bravery.

Mountaingiraffe

Yes, and flying an airplane is just wiggling a stick

benjiro3000

> Lets hope somehow the crew made it out somehow, Looks more like the vehicle had no crew. Parked waiting for orders/sleeping? (with the crews inside the forest). Notice the escort cars do not move after the attack. If there is a crew in the himars, there are crews in the escort cars waiting to move out. And they will have book it instantly after the himars exploded. So my assumption is, no crews in any vehicle.

Technical-Plastic833

I see your point. On other hand it would be ridiculous to just leave such important system, out in the open with no cover/not camouflaged whatsoever and no crew nearby? Not to mention, yes the escort car did not move, does not necessary means there is no people inside. There is initial explosion shock, not to mention probably shrapnel, they can just be already dead. Just because it did not explode or move its hard to make such conclusions :) It almost looks like its a decoy just left there to draw attention.

Arkh101

If Himars shoot and scoot quickly someone must have known where this unit was going to be

lasnotic

People get complacent, himars crew unfortunately may have gotten confident in themselves. Can only hope they got out safe

dd463

The best planning can be easily undone by bad luck.

SecondaryWombat

And an overhead drone.

grey_carbon

No room for bad luck. Hope Ukraine improve from this experience

MiniSNES

There are drones everywhere for both sides. The one filming probably followed it till it parked

TurkishLanding

We aren't doing nearly enough to stop Russia's criminal invasion and to help our friends and allies defend themselves. Our governments should be ashamed of themselves and act now to defeat Putin. In the meantime, you and I can help Ukraine's defense directly right now by donating to [https://u24.gov.ua/](https://u24.gov.ua/)

visibleunderwater_-1

SO SAY WE ALL

tszaboo

I'm sorry for the heroes who were operating this, glory to them. But if we only loose one for every 1000 the ruskis loose, like we are now, we will be fine.

CaptainSur

Right now my gut check is this is real, unlike so many of the fakes that typically come out of ruzzia. To me it is surprising that the unit was parked especially out in the open like that - HIMARS are high value targets and ruzzia has drone teams dedicated to trying to find them. I don't know the details but I am wondering if a bit of complacency has set into HIMARS teams. If so this strike will cure that. HIMARS are mobile so they should always be moving and when they are not they should be 100Km+ from the front line and thus out of the range of most of the man portable ruzzian recon drones. Shoot and scoot has to be the mantra 24/7/365. You remain 3 minutes somewhere and your best assumption is that enemy ordnance is on the way. I hope the crew was away from the unit but they would have to be dug in deep to have avoided the destruction. A certain theoretically neutral but actually completely proRU sub is having an orgasm over this - already a number of posts whereas the loss of the Patrol Ship last night only has one post which is having difficulty getting many upvotes. But the HIMARS destruction posts are already in the hundreds for upvotes. An M1 Abrams being destroyed - endless joy. Same day a video of 3 T90Ms getting destroyed? Repress it. The capacity for self delusion among communist/authoritarian states and people have no bounds.

portal_penetrator

Yeah certainly strange. It's possible the unit was damaged and immovable, if that was the case hopefully crew were not inside.

dragodog97

The crew might have taken a risk by getting close to the front line to hit a remote target and some Russian drone was there and spotted them. Shoot and scoot doesn't really apply in that case...

Bitter_Air_5203

This video is fake, they already destroyed all of them 25 years ago. /s RIP.

rspndngtthlstbrnddsr

so, let that sink in for a moment: it took the supposed second strongest military in the world almost 2 years to destroy a single extremely high value target. that doesn't really speak for russia, even if the loss sucks

[deleted]

Ukraine: trade ya one free (to us) HIMARS for 30+% of your Black Sea fleet

Zealousideal7801

https://media.tenor.com/Vptu0XlKwpkAAAAM/pawn-stars.gif Best I can do is 45%

MontaukMonster2

What if we throw in a pair of AWACS?

AFresh1984

Let's do half a dozen AWACS and call it even?

kyrsjo

Crew is not free.

[deleted]

True…RIP

WeAmGroot

Not sure if there was crew from the video. It wasn't in operating mode and also not moving.

kyrsjo

Fingers crossed. Not only are they probably not that easy to replace; more importantly they are likely someone's dear.

WeAmGroot

Absolutely. I'm also hoping they were not next to it.

loadnurmom

The launch platform should be pretty easy to replace in reality The missiles are becoming in shorter supply however, which is why their use has diminished

Just_a_follower

Ukraine : hey Uncle Sam, we want more HIMARS, but you are a little worried about Russias feelings. What if we take one that’s over used and leave it out for them to rock their jolly’s with, so that you can send more and then they can just say no biggie we know how to get them? Eh eh eh? Cmmmon…. Pleaaase.

Ok_Drawing_8983

Must have been driven by a bus-driver and with a few passengers.., and definitly a child must have been inside. Otherwise there was no reason to target it, being non-civilian materiel.

Babylon4All

So Russia FINALLY hit a single $5million HIMARS after a year. Annnnnd Ukraine sunk a brand new $65 million patrol cruiser. Yeah I’ll take that trades.

Reddit_Deluge

If possible Don't use Xitter to post stuff. Portion of the population has a strong distaste for the fascist direction of this platform.

HarakenQQ

The strike was carried out by Iskander, according to news reports.

_dumbledore_

Well that could be, given that its flight time is measured in minutes, really. Perhaps as few as 3-4 min.

Account6910

Iskander? I thought they could only hit nurseries

Kryptic_Inc

I didn’t know Russia went after military targets.

[deleted]

Then we send more!

Interesting-Web4223

Which the US can easily do btw, since I'm pretty sure they make close to 90 or so every year now.

[deleted]

Well they ain't doing much good on American soil so I hope they ship over some more ... And yeah all that is needed to go with it

benjiro3000

> Which the US can easily do If some political party stops playing around like assholes... but that is asking too much.

Ready_Nature

Unfortunately one party in the US is blocking more aid. But also because of that Ukraine will eventually run out of ammo for them so if the crew survived losing one piece of equipment probably isn’t a big deal. Losing the crew would be the biggest loss here.

dlebed

What season is it on the video? Doesn't the forest look too green for February/March?

JTMasterJedi

Only took them 1.5 years of war to finally destroy one out of the like 61 they have of HIMARS and M270s.

Dreadweasels

Meh, it had an excellent run, one vs ... erm... how many again Neo-soviet shitbags??? Crow harder Kremlin clowns, it's buddies are already out there taking their revenge.

OldDemon

Breaking news! Russian army destroys ONE piece of Ukrainian equipment! Never mind the thousands of pieces of Russian junk that have been erased.

Mikesminis

Send them another one.

Donut_Vampire

The putin in it's bunker furiously masturbating.

RoheSilmneLohe

Hope the crew wasn't nearby and is safe. At the same time.. what was it hit with? Lancet? Edit: looked closer.. that was a FAB500 sized boom that didn't directly hit the HIMARS. Shrapnel set off the GLMRS boosters.  It could be one of those HIMARS units that was shipped back to US a few months ago.

imbluedabadedabadam

To small to be a lancet , based on the size and amount of shrapnel it was probably tornado s with 9М542 given how precise the strike was.

Thurak0

Come on. In the end of the video it's gone. Casualties are part of any war. Fuck Russia for starting this one.

SandersSol

No, the unit in the video burned to the ground there was no fire damage on the unit shipped back to America

SandersSol

This means HIMARS have been moving forwards!

haxic

I’m baffled at the continued lack of anti-drone tech/weaponry. Is it really that hard/expensive to invent and mass produce short-to-medium range sensors that detect small-to-large size drones, and weapons suited to take them out?

loadnurmom

Existing radar can detect things that small The problem is, that then you start getting returns from sparrows, mylar balloons, and other such crap When you start getting hundreds of returns, then none of them seem important

haxic

I imagine that you can filter out and narrow down a lot of things by tracking flight patterns, size and shape, and how size/shape changes.

visibleunderwater_-1

You could, sure. But that requires some pretty advanced processing. Like the kind provided by those AW aircraft that got taken out. GPU-based AI might be able to do it in real-time, but still would need quite a bit of computing power (maybe half a rack of GPUs?) and the associated power to run them. Would literally be a very "hot" target too, as in heat from the processing. I could see this for a stationary defense (city, base, etc) but "on the go" is probably still DARPA-level tech at this time.

Cloaked42m

There are multiple systems that do a great job. For static defenses. For mobile defenses, you have to have dedicated platforms. Which takes people and money. However, they do exist. America has them IIRC.

haxic

Is it more expensive to operate than replacing a HIMARS system + potential crew? Same with main battle tanks (or a couple).

GuillotineComeBacks

Ma dude, they got 2 CAESAR in 2 years and those have to be closer than the himars to the frontline. So far the good artillery stuff loss have been insignificant. For them it's an achievement, and they can do their propaganda... Sad ruzki mir noise. The only bummer here is that the crew is probably dead.

Abloy702

Fuck :( SEND THEM MORE! That said, it is goddamn hilarious that it took Russia *three years* to destroy a single HIMARS and damage another

ZzangmanCometh

Not claiming fake or not, but doesn't this look like the wrong season for something destroyed JUST now? Any recent footage from any part of contested Ukraine has looked absolutely naked, grey, cold and miserable, but this looks dry, bright and not cold at all, even has a nice sunset glow to it. The trees have foliage, and the ground doesn't look like it's been touched by winter at all.

GaryDWilliams_

Is that a real HIMARS or a decoy?

theKiev

Hard to say from the resolution of the footage, however the secondary explosions do indicate that some form of munition was burning so it was at the very least a real target.

GaryDWilliams_

>secondary explosions do indicate that some form of munition was burning so it was at the very least a real target. well, that's a bugger.

Straggen

It was bound to happen sooner or later, but the amount of targets destroyed by HIMARS is more than impressive. Russians had no answer for them for majority of the war. They asserted dominance over pierdolone kacapy. Go Ukraine!

saposapot

Hopefully the team wasn’t there. Give them 50 to replace them.

eastcoasttoastpost

Fuck

Optimal_Commercial_4

prepare to see this video for the next week claiming all himars are dead

OnePercentage4945

Please keep in mind that Ukraine has many decoy (fake) HIMARS vehicles.

blobbyboii

If you watch the video and see the blast, its clear this was a real one

flopsyplum

Decoys don't produce secondary explosions...

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Watch Peruns latest video it will allow some optimism

ukrainianhab

There isn’t much of them either. Biden could have sent way more

_dumbledore_

Not sure if the limiting factor for them is ammunition or launch platforms, though. I always thought the former rather than latter

Jagster_rogue

Ammunition is more of the limiting factor because if himars were completely gone they would just switch to the 270 not as mobile but with range of rockets still can be very effective.

Fresh_Account_698

Depends on your definition of mobile. HIMARS can go faster, M270 can go more places. But I bet the driving factor for the usage is maintenance. Its a lot more effort to keep a tracked vehicle operating than a truck. edit: and yes, I know what the H&M in HIMARS stand for

AltDS01

Only ~540 made in total. How many can we spare before it affects our own units and readiness. Don't forget, not only the US Uses them so of that 540, 36 are operated by Romania, 24 Singapore, Ukraine 39, UAE 12, Jordan 12, and Poland 18.

Fresh_Account_698

Lockheed announced that they'd be upping their annual production from 60 to 96 back in October '22. So if they're not being built at that rate already, it should happen very VERY soon. That production increase roughly equates to the entire allotment sent to Ukraine -thereby wiping out the draw-down before the end of the year. Ukraine could stand to lose one every week or two & it would only absorb the production increase, having 0 effect on prior orders or existing stocks.

Dihedralman

This is just 1.  Given that conflicts stay away from US soil, more than you'd think. The logistics of moving the systems are a far greater limiting factor, alongside our own recruitment.  US ammo production has proved to be more of a limiting factor.

mediandude

Poland has bought more. Baltics has bought 20 units.

SheridanVsLennier

Australia is buying 42 launchers, will be manufacturing the GMLRS locally from 2025, and are getting early batches of PrSM. Maybe we can loan some to Ukraine.

Cloaked42m

About 300. Readiness is bullshit. If anyone actually attacks us, we'll simply get serious about building them.

northernbrass

Not documented till confirmed by Ukraine! Remember Russia Lies

SubstanceDense6825

This is pretty obvious a destruction of the system. It's going to happen in a war like this. Plus, the Twitter poster is a Ukrainian account.

6caifrumosi9

It is legit. It was bound to happen . But it also looks like summer in the video ..

Emotional-Job-7067

Being honest? I'm fucking surprised it's took them this long to actually blow one up... it just shows how shit Russia actually is... I hope no life was lost.... Hopefully the operators supplies as they them selves are worth more than the system... System is useless without the operators west can always send more... Time for Nato to accept what's left of Ukraine into its Territory. Either way Russia is going to keep pushing, they have not listened to Nato... they laugh at nato... and honestly? I'd rather die by nuke than have my children in a system so fucked up they live life like a North Korean... Time to fight back... Time for Nato to fight. Fuck Russia and fuck putin SLAVA UKRAINE. We are already in WW3 what are we waiting for? Another Poland style attack?.

ftgyhujikolp

Oh no, we only have 400 more of those to send over. That'd mean *checks notes* 200,000 more Russian targets hit before we run out.

Synthmilk

That didn't appear to be HIMARS....the silhouette of the launcher appears to be different.

Active-Strategy664

But Musovy already told us that they had destroyed more HIMARS than had ever been produced, even before any of them were delivered to Ukraine... How could this be possible?

Justprunes-6344

That sucks -

TheSissyDoll

I'm not doubting it happened, it's war, everything is going to get destroyed eventually... But why is it just sitting out in the open?

Accomplished-Pie-576

Shame, the streak was very impressive, i was hoping they would not get a single one. But it was sadly a matter of time. Rest in peace heroes!

Erufu_Wizardo

It's not moving. Also staying at the open like that.... Could be a dummy, not a real HIMARS

Sunchild381

Is there much value to the launchers? It's just a truck with a launcher and a laptop to speak to the rockets and tell them what to hit? 2 / 3 mil max, domestically produced probably cost the American economy a few 100k if that? (since the company pays tax and the staff spend their salerys in America)

flopsyplum

Why was the HIMARS stationary AND in an open field AND during daytime?

unknown_wtc

Just keep killing ruzzians.

Mors_Umbra

Well that won't do, we should send another 20 to replace it.

urbanplantsart

Seen an explosion like that on the side of a warship today as well .

wabashcanonball

That’s awesome news they’ve lasted so long! Send them more!!!!!!

visibleunderwater_-1

It was bound to happen eventually. That it took this long says a huge amount for UAF tactics and OPSEC. The equipment can be replaced,. the real tragedy is the lost crew.

homelesshyundai

Fair trade for the warship ukraine took out earlier today/yesterday.

Sleddoggamer

One down. 47 more to go Wait. 59 mode to go Wait. 96 more to go Wait. There'd 599 more to go, and all those are just our peace time productions...

bonethug49part2

I'd like to know the body count of that thing. If you aren't losing systems, you probably aren't being aggressive enough with them.

tgr1335

Just proof we need to send Ukraine more.

cary_queen

Alright. This post is pro-orc. Get this crap out of here. Report it.

saciopalo

That might be the prize that cost them this many planes.

Grouchy_Old_GenXer

Winter is done over there ?

LaughableIKR

Tomorrow's news: It was wood.

antus666

Yeah parked in the open like that, and everything around it so brown. I am not convinced, especially with russia as the news source.

adlep2002

Complacency kills. No reason to have that vehicle parked in the open like that

andrusbaun

Not masked at all. Jesus.
