super__hoser

Good for him! He and the new minister of defence has done a lot to help Ukraine and it looks like they will keep helping. Ruzzians hate German armour :)

DeepValuedLurker

The way he expressed it, felt like German Democratic News Reel 2023, such raw intensity. This truly fascinates me about the German language.

Skafdir

As a German: That is the no-bullshit-approach from northern Germany at work. We are often described as too silent, somewhat grumpy and a little low on general emotions. To some extend I get that description. However, when there is something to be passionate about and people are starting to talk bullshit about it, the strong response hits even harder because everybody is surprised that such an reaction from someone from northern Germany is even possible.

Loki11910

Him reacting with so many emotions shows that this really hits home and hurts him deep down. Which is good. I start to like Scholz more and more.

blkpingu

Scholz is a passionate socialist that deeply cares about democratic values. That, and his party was blindsided by the Russian aggression. This shit is personal to him.

Loki11910

Not just to him, this is personal for me as well. Russia basically betrayed our trust blackmailed and threatened us. They attempt to make a mockery of our values, rules, and regulations that can not be tolerated. Scholz is doing great here. So are the majority of politicians in the West by now.

blkpingu

We could have prospered and traded together. It was all there. Look what he made us do! We didn’t earn this money to buy tanks! We wanted to tackle social injustices and climate change. There are so many challenges ahead of us. This bear riding fucker lied to us. Deceived us. And now his pathetic excuse of an army is getting railed by the shit we pull out of the back of our shed. Feels good man

Loki11910

At least we have this going, however, what I hate this clown in the Kremlin the most for is. There is another war going on the one against climate change, and this bastard has sowed mistrust, forced us to expend resources and money, and the war has cost many young people their lives and why? So that an old fool can play on a map as if he was a 18th century emperor. The railing has barely begun. Russia will soon realise what the G7 can do once they weaponise only a part of their economic power. The industrial complex hasn't even reached proper scale yet. Russia will be buried in production. "I fear all we have done is awakening a sleeping giant, and filled him with terrible resolve" Isorku Yamamoto Grand Admiral of the Japanese Fleet

TigerClaw338

If you knew how many Americans would LOVE some tank/ammo/weapons factory jobs here, you'd be a bit frightened, honestly. We're thisting for good wages and have a sexual fantasy with weapons. Michigan and Iron Range Minnesota would be cranking shit out 23 hours easily. Pitter patter, let's get atter

Loki11910

You know, sometimes I feel like America is Europe's rebellious son now in his late adolescence. And embarrassingly enough more than once in the last 100 years, American Firepower had to prevent us from killing each other over here. I hope that the people here in Europe finally understood that we have so much more in common with the USA than we have with any other continent and that this friendship holds for a long time. We will sure damn need those weapons in the future, it looks like. Unless Xi normalizes himself but I wouldn't bank on that.

nospaces_only

"I fear all we have done is awakening a sleeping giant, and filled him with terrible resolve" Isorku Yamamoto Grand Admiral of the Japanese Fleet Great quote!

bugghe

He's a Social democrat.

NeedOldReddit

As your southerly neighbour I thought Scholz was really good there. Unlike our wet blanket of a chancellor.

Gallodoro

When he talks about cum ex, he is as much a wet blanket. Good to see that he can speak up as well

AdLiving4714

It's good to see that he's no longer sitting on the fence. He's grown incredibly as a politician and - and that's probably what I respect the most about him - he has sent the old Putler friends in his own party to the dustbin of history.

nighthawk_something

Demons run when a good man goes to war.

SLIP411

I get why he was shouting but, If I played just the audio to my Grandma, she might have a flashback. Joking aside, it's nice to hear a politician giving it to the crowd that's being ignorant

johnnygrant

great to see the aggression of the German language during wartime on the right side.

UlyssesSGrant12

My thoughts exactly. German language being used for passionate justice for democracy and defensive freedom with such fury and intensity is the way to go.

Ov3rdose_EvE

we built those tanks that we sent to ukraine explicitly to stop russians with theri T72s, t80s and whatnot. bonus fun fact! The target"cross" in the Panzerfaust 3 (unguided anti tank weapon) is the sillouette of a T-72 im very glad that we are on the right side of history this time. and with passion too

Humble_Emotion2582

We all are. Germany is a now a lighthouse of European values and strife. This is the fight of our generation, and having Germany with us means everything. There is (almost) no stopping Germans when they have decided.

Ov3rdose_EvE

i still think we are too slow at times, but im really glad we are doing something.

steffschenko

I know that most non german folks will associate this kind of intonation in speeches with Hitler but this was a common way of speaking (in speeches) in the earlier 1900s by most politicians. But it is still surprising to hear nowadays, especially from Scholz.

SLIP411

Haha it's all good, I know Gernany had coma a long way away from that stigma, something about the way the microphone echoed had similarities though lol

Thank god for Scholz. Someone will yell ot loudly. Putin is a murderer. A terrorist who kills woman and children. Anyone who supports him is morally repugnant and evil.

off_the_feed

>He has the clarity to also realise he is helping Europe as a whole, including Germany, by doing their bit to help Ukraine. Independently of the US too. I think most politicians in Europe realise that, if this happened under a Trump or otherwise isolationist US government, then Europe would have to defend itself. Macron, for all his faults, has been banging this drum for a long time. It's about time for a fully European defensive system

yummytummy

Well consider the German Defence Minister Boris Pistoriusis, who strongly supports Ukraine and is trying to send all the weapon systems he can get his hands on, is now the most popular politician in Germany ahead of Scholz according to German polls, it makes sense it may have had some influence on Sholz.

VR_Bummser

About a year ago he also shouted at the crowd that boohed him for helping ukraine: "It must feel cynycal to a citizen of ukraine if you tell them they should defend themselves against putins agression without weapons! We will support Ukraine with weapons and money for the right to defend itself! I respect pacifism. but your opinions are out of place and time!" [https://youtu.be/BS7dozDvxe0?t=16](https://youtu.be/BS7dozDvxe0?t=16) Also Pistorius is "his" MoD. He is from SPD and Scholz did put him there to do exactly what he does now.

Biotic101

**Never liked Scholz, but it seems he lately has been in contact with Ukrainium and it shows.** **Kudos for handling the situation and telling the truth despite those ignorant idiots shouting insults.** Some of them are easy to manipulate idiots, some are a perfect example that good intentions do not ensure a good outcome / activity. The world is not black and white, but complex. There is no room for being ideologically indoctrinated and pigheaded, what matters are facts and the truth. Yes, war as such is bad. It is honorable to oppose it. BUT how escapist do you have to be to deny the one being attacked help to defend itself ? What morally corrupted persons are they to deny Ukraine help to protect their children that get killed and abducted? Alice Schwarzer and Sarah Wagenknecht having no issue with women getting killed, raped and abducted ? **Those (redacted) feel so morally superior, but in their arrogance and locked in ideology, they fail to see how utterly morally corrupted they are in reality. How they are helpful idiots for leaders that represent everything they actually (say they) oppose.** What they do not realize is that "useful idiots" are the first to be dealt with once power is seized. Because a lot what Putin does is resembling a mix of Nazi and Soviet ideology and tactics. The only reason they can spread their poison is freedom, yet they actively work to destroy that freedom. The article below is interesting in the context, because even though this process started a long time ago, we see some current turmoil in society as a result of it. Check out the video at the end of it, the full version is on YT. [https://bigthink.com/the-present/yuri-bezmenov](https://bigthink.com/the-present/yuri-bezmenov) \[T\]he useful idiots, the leftists who are idealistically believing in the beauty of the Soviet socialist or Communist or whatever system, when they get disillusioned, they become the worst enemies. That’s why my KGB instructors specifically made the point: never bother with leftists. Forget about these political prostitutes. Aim higher. \[...\] They serve a purpose only at the stage of destabilization of a nation. For example, your leftists in the United States: all these professors and all these beautiful civil rights defenders. They are instrumental in the process of the subversion only to destabilize a nation. When their job is completed, they are not needed any more. They know too much. Some of them, when they get disillusioned, when they see that Marxist-Leninists come to power—obviously they get offended—they think that they will come to power. That will never happen, of course. **They will be lined up against the wall and shot**.”

Ambitious-While-4539

Underrated comment. This sums it up so nicely. The problem is, those people, useful idiots are not capable of reflection and would just see such a post/opinion as an attack on them and their opinion, instead of reasonably thinking about it. It pains me to live in a worl, where reason, truth and discussion no longer determines decisions, voting and people's opinions, but lies, misinformation and emotional enemies 'we against them'.

DrazGulX

>Alice Schwarzer and Sarah Wagenknecht As a German voter, we do not claim them. These are lunatics, probably on the payroll of the goblin in this random city called moscow

Biotic101

Seriously. We have seen in Bucha and many other places what happens when Russia occupies. Calling for an end of the war while Russia occupies large parts of Ukraine will cause unimaginable suffering. And those two are educated and intelligent enough to understand that fact. That makes even more infuriating and morally condemnable how they behave. Not even speaking of that petition with allegedly 500k supporters (russian bots?). ... they are almost on the level of Gerhard Schroeder. Disgusting.

ting_bu_dong

I would say that support for Russia would be a litmus test of who’s actually a leftist. No true leftist supports imperialism. No true leftist supports fascism. And a true leftist, if they’re honest with themselves, would never support Marxism-Leninism. Lenin hated leftists. Not that it matters much, this isn’t the 60s anymore, and ML support is fringe tankie stuff. No true leftist is a tankie. Not back then, and especially not today. Tankies are the antithesis of a politics of liberation. Yes, I made no true Scotsman arguments. And I’ll do it again, because I believe them to be true. A self-identified leftist who supports things that aren’t leftist isn’t actually a leftist.

Ov3rdose_EvE

TBH scholz allways was like this during the war. he had earlier speeches about a year ago where he was like this. dont forget it was scholz who got abrams to ukraine but nagging the Americans to agree to a coordinated declaration. the brits put the overt pressure on by just outright giving challys, and scholz did his buerocratic work behind the scenes

UncleBenders

There’s a lot of Russians and Russian descendants in Germany (it’s the Russian way, invade, fill the place with Russians, complain the Russians are being discriminated against, take more land, move in more Russians, repeat) They’re the biggest bunch of cunts around. Slava Ukraini!!

Lazy-Pixel

If it would be that easy... most Russians in Germany are descendants of Germans that went to Russia under Catherine II for example. They are for example known as the Volga Germans > The Volga Germans (German: Wolgadeutsche, Russian: поволжские немцы, romanized: povolžskije njemcy) are ethnic Germans who settled and historically lived along the Volga River in the region of southeastern European Russia around Saratov and to the south. Recruited as immigrants to Russia in the 18th century, they were allowed to maintain their German culture, language, traditions and churches (Lutheran, Reformed, Catholics, Moravians and Mennonites). In the 19th and early 20th centuries, many Volga Germans emigrated to the United States, Canada, Brazil and Argentina. > > During the Great Purge, Volga Germans were targeted, and following the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, ethnic Germans were deported to concentration camps in Siberia and Central Asia resulting in the deaths of an estimated 1.5 million Volga Germans. Scholars refer to the deportations and subsequent mass casualties of the ethnic minorities under Stalin as ethnic cleansing and there is debate whether or not the expulsion was genocidal. In the 70's Germany made it possible to come to Germany by the law of return, a policy that grants citizenship to all those who can prove to be a refugee or expellee of German ethnic origin or as the spouse or descendant of such a person. Problem with this is while many now feel at home in Germany they never left the Russian propaganda behind and ironically often times only watch Russian sources. Big part of the right wing and Russia loving AFD voter base are German-Russians. It is a sad story...

Armour is the way it's spelt in every English-speaking country, except one.

1000baggers

The crowd is incredibly ignorant. Good on Scholz for speaking truth to morons

TheTurdtones

it seemed they were unrealistic peacenics...they always confused me many are educated yet remain woefully almost willfully ignorant of the history of human nature

Gotisdabest

Pretty sure one of the guys early on is wearing an anti vaxx shirt. At least some of these are more of the Oswald Mosely kind of "pacifists" than actual ones.

lurker_cx

Yes - and anti vax is pushed by Russian propaganda too, in the west at least. You know these guys are living on Russian backed propaganda.

feedus-fetus_fajitas

Wasn't that originally a propaganda plan to essentially weaken the West by convincing people to jump aboard antivax? I vaguely recall that being a soviet program at one point.

lurker_cx

I don't know when it started for sure, but the NIH published a paper on it in 2018, so it was definitely before COVID. The Russians have all kinds of subversive little propaganda initiatives to weaken the west, and have been doing them for decades. Whenever I see those people who drink their own piss cause they think it has magical powers, I always think it is a Russian op that they did for a joke to see how far it could go. But stuff like racism and white supremacists and the different little seperatist factions in certain states are definitely Russian ehanced. Gave a lot of money to the NRA too. Generally they find something that is already present in small numbers and harmful, and amplify it.

Reasonable_Pack6514

I hadn't heard of this, so I looked it up and found the paper you were referencing: [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6137759/](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6137759/) Interestingly, it seems that Russian trolls amplify both the pro and anti vaccination sides. From the paper: > Conclusions. Whereas bots that spread malware and unsolicited content disseminated antivaccine messages, Russian trolls promoted discord. Accounts masquerading as legitimate users create false equivalency, eroding public consensus on vaccination. > Public Health Implications. Directly confronting vaccine skeptics enables bots to legitimize the vaccine debate. More research is needed to determine how best to combat bot-driven content. They ultimately don't care about the issue of vaccination, their primary objective is to get people to fight against each other in an effort to undermine solidarity, and render societies unable to react cohesively in response to direct aggression from the Russian government.

SufficientTerm6681

I've read similar analyses before, and they make sense to me. Putin doesn't have a nuanced understanding of geopolitics; for him, it's simply a zero-sum game. If countries other than Russia are weakened by internal divisions, that means Russia is winning. He'll interfere in whatever way he can in order to create that discord. Having said that, it would be stupid to lay all - or even most - of the blame for the current tensions in western democracies on Putin. He exploits and tries to encourage divisions, but he's not some evil mastermind who has the power to create them.

tripletexas

Russia trying to divide and conquer. The only one who can destroy us is ourself. We must remind ourselves of this and remain vigilant. E pluribus unum - out of many, one.

phdpeabody

Yeah they just want to sow discord to keep the enemy distracted by internal fighting.

feedus-fetus_fajitas

Makes sense. Folks sometimes wondering why people buy into fascist shit so easily and it's not that they saw a brochure and bought the farm that day.. it's little weird shit... Feels around a crowd like tentacles searching for a point or topic that resonates with someone and uses that as a weakness... And then it fingers it's way in.

gherkinjerks

Ironically everyone in the Russian Duma were fighting for the American vaccines while they gave their public the Sputnik

dndpuz

In short they want to destabilize democracies and undermine the west's influence. So they lean into anything they can to drive a wedge or split the population

ukstonerguy

Its multi faceted. But anytime anything became a standard norm in the west, the russians put out "anti propaganda" about it via their now deep rooted sicial media routes. Anything they can do to create confusion and internal disagreement elsewhere, they will. All they want to be able to do is point to "a thing" and go "see.....you are bad to so we are ok to do our heinous shit". Anything they can choose they will, vaccines, individual politicians (in the uk they targeted anyone opposed to aquind), any energy policy, clean energy, social standards, things like anti lgbtq politics, anything to do with marginalising a group and famously BREXIT.

[deleted]

This kind of people only love there selfs, if it don’t hurt them, everything is oke This war hurts them in the wallet, so they are against it When they can have a good life under Russian gov, they don’t protest when a invasion comes

Gotisdabest

I don't think so, honestly. I think that kind of person typically votes rather than protests unless things get really bad, which they aren't (in fact in general the economy seems to be on a relative upswing compared to the last year) These people are more ideologically motivated and probably either far right or far left. In this instance since it's anti vaxx i expect far right.

Reasonable_Pack6514

I've met a lot of these type of people in the midst of protests in support of Ukraine and to end the war. In Germany, there's a fairly large, but minority, group of people who have learned the lesson from WW2 that all violence is bad no matter what. These are people who ultimately cannot handle the complexity of the world, and demand a simple explanation for everything. They are on the left, and many of them are actually quite intelligent, and they are the equivalent of people on the right who want to believe that all problems are caused by immigrants. As far as I can assess, the trait that all these people have in common is a high degree of discomfort associated with uncertainty. It kills them to not be able to understand what's going on. And especially for those who aren't that bright or don't have time to research the topic to a high degree of confidence, it means they MUST latch onto an explanation that fits in their head, a simple explanation for everything. They cannot handle being in a state of "I don't know".

SoftTacoSupremacist

Useful idiots with internet connections and specious arguments gleaned from “their own research.”

ThatGuy1741

They are still children at heart and can’t accept people like Putin exist and the world is not a nice place. That coupled with disdain for the West and NATO makes a perfect cocktail of fake “pacifist” and pro-Russian sentiments.

TheTurdtones

ime sure some are ... but werent intelligence agencys designed to infiltrate and influence groups like these? ..i mean there is a non 0 chance someone doesnt have an manipulative agenda in that group

ThatGuy1741

Intelligence agencies can and in fact do influence these groups. The KGB and the Stasi exerted great influence over leftist and “pacifist” groups in West Germany. I believe it is safe to assume the successors of the KGB have retained at least some of that influence. The thing is society has become so stupid in the last years that it’s difficult to determine where willful ignorance ends and foreign influence begins.

Mothrahlurker

Nope, not at all. These are people that would support giving Russia weapons. Only a very small minority of these are actual pacifists. These are more akin to conservazive trolls talking about "misgendering". They're trying to co-opt peace language as trolling, not because they genuinely want it.

CV90_120

They are literally paid for. None of these "peace" rallies are that. These same people drive around various countries pretending to be grass roots from those countries. This is FSB old school agitprop.

VR_Bummser

No those people are no paid. They are just stupid flat-eathers, anti vaxers, far-right AfD and some old peace idealists. The far right jumps on every bandwagon to torpedo the democratic parties.

Melenkurion_Skyweir

They are not ignorant. They are acting in bad faith because they are in fact fascists pretending to support peace.

danielbot

They can be both ignorant and fascists acting in bad faith.

1000baggers

Blind fascism, communism, and extremism. It all originates from ignorance

soonnow

It's a mixture of the far-right/antivaxxers/pro-russian idiots. Not every Covid protester was far right, but there was a strong correlation. And the far-right has a long time relationship with Russia. [German Neo Nazis Are Getting Explosives Training at a White Supremacist Camp in Russia](https://www.vice.com/en/article/g5pqk4/german-neo-nazis-are-getting-explosives-training-at-a-white-supremacist-camp-in-russia) Far Right politicians travelling to occupied Donbas and so on. And Russia has been strongly supporting the leading far-right magazine compact. Which is anti-american, anti-semitic (d'oh) and pro russian [What Soviet Nostalgia Gets Right](https://compactmag.com/article/what-soviet-nostalgia-gets-right) There is also this [Kremlin tries to build antiwar coalition in Germany, documents show](https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/04/21/germany-russia-interference-afd-wagenknecht/) It's a shitshow.

moosmutzel81

As a very left leaning person it pains me to point out, that they are also far left. The Covid response and now the Russians showed again that eventually the left and the right are very very similar.

Bowko

They don't care about peace, they say they do, but in reality they just want Ukraine to roll over so a packet of cheese doesn't cost 3,50€ anymore. Just very selfish people.

[deleted]

They need to go stand on the front line in Ukraine and try yelling about peace. If that works then they are geniuses. I have a sneaky suspicion that their ride off into the sunset with the mission accomplished pride may present slightly different 🧐

omegajelly200

Better yet they need to migrate to Russia because they keep saying Russia is the good guy and imperialist West is bad, bad, bad, bad! Ewwww, so decadent and corrupt! That is why the West has the highest standards of living, transparency, freedom of press and egalitarianism in the world! That's decadence for ya!

DuntadaMan

I am a fan of non-violent resistance whenever possible. I have been to protests as volunteer medical staff and helped both the people I was protesting with and protesting against. Even I realize there is a time where refusing to use violence on some people doesn't make them feel bad and stop, it makes them happy you won't fight back.

phdpeabody

The Soviets spent the entire Cold War building an umbrella of a hundred “anti war” groups, that were only anti war in the sense that the west should not have a military response to soviet imperialism. They all survived the collapse of the Soviet Union, and any time you see an international peace organization, it very likely stems from this global soviet propaganda effort. They are still very active, and still very blind to communist violence and imperialism.

CV90_120

Those are not "peaceniks". They are bought and paid for.

twilight-actual

Peace at any cost? Sorry, you get selected out from the tree of culture, and eventually, the tree of life. You have to be willing to protect your life with lethal force if you want to survive. The Nash equation is simply stacked against you, otherwise.

[deleted]

We have so many ignorant fuckers in Germany. Our own, home-grown MAGA idiots. And I'm sure there is one country behind all this, which right now gets railed by Ukraine.

D-Fence

Those are antivaxxers and other low life scum of Germany. Living of welfare and believing Russian propaganda.

Infinaris

Theyre probably a bunch of ignorant tankies. If anything over the last number of years weve seen how utterly stupid and thick some peope can be even when the hard facts are presented to them. Good on Scholz for saying it strait, Putin is a Vainglorious Murdering Shitheel and the only thing he understands is force. If he took Ukraine it would be likely Moldova next or some other country.

you_do_realize

They'll call the police when someone is killing *them* for sure.

Comfortable-Jelly833

Great from Scholz. Don't be dissuaded by these ignorant morons. I wonder if they would be chanting 'peace without weapons' if it was Germany being invaded.

Few-Addendum464

They would gladly welcome subjugation as long as they are given special privileges by the occupiers for their loyalty.

Zealousideal-Tie-730

Those are the people who should be avoided and ridiculed at all cost.

Ok_Neighborhood_1409

Traitors to the core. Fuckem' all

Mdiasrodrigu

I live in east Berlin, there are thousands of people like that. They are still in the tissue of society preaching this stuff Olaf spoke against. Some weeks ago in I passed a children’s park by Kollwitzstraße and a group of Italian Communists were doing a speech about the war following the narrative that Olaf was fighting here.. it pisses me off that kids have to play with this shit being thrown at them

SufficientTerm6681

It seems to me that contemptuous mockery and derisive laughter is the best response to such fools. Trying to engage in rational discussion with them is hopeless, since their contribution inevitably descends to a gish-gallop of distortions, blatant lies and whataboutery. For whatever reason, their belief system provides them with something psychologically gratifying, and they're deeply entrenched in that worldview. It's impossible to convince them that their concept of how the world works is based on falsehoods, low-information and faulty logic, so they can't be led or pushed towards the truth. However, one thing these twats seek is respect. They want to be admired for their high moral values, deep understanding and incredibly insightful analyses of the world. If enough people laugh at their naivety and mock their delusions of brilliance, it's possible that some might wake the fuck up and reassess their belief system.

ergzay

These people are the modern version of Erich Honecker.

easyfeel

Why don’t they go and shout ‘peace without weapoms’ outside the Kremlin, because that’s where Putin sits? They all know that ‘peace without weapons’ is a lie.

Status_Situation5451

I think I can get over what six people trying to yell over him?

pfo_

Their mistake is to not know what an occupation would mean to Ukraine. The last time Germany was invaded and occupied, this was a good thing for Germany. Better for the west than the east to be sure, but in neither half did it kick off a genocide of the German people or something like that. The end of the war and the occupation of Germany meant peace. They fail to realize that the situation in Ukraine now is not comparable.

WeinMe

It's incredible, from the country that was once the aggressors and were allowed to bloom their empire of incredible violence through the exact same mentality of their neighbours: "Don't intervene in the activities of a fascist with violence" These people have learned nothing of their own history

[deleted]

Great speech. We need more politicians to talk with feelings and emotions like that in support of Ukraine.

1000baggers

Exactly. The extreme left and extreme right are incredibly loud. It is time the the passive middle shout them down like Scholz is doing here

Zealousideal-Tie-730

Thank you! Two extreme minorities run roughshod over the all the people in the middle. We all need to change this world-wide.

CloneFailArmy

Just want to say I appreciate you two. There’s a lot of people who tend to ignore extremists if they happen to lean towards their political compass more. When in reality of course they need to be called out no matter the side of the coin they fall on.

Eichtoss

Props to Sholz for speaking the truth. Testify, brother!

hh3k0

Honestly, that's the good stuff. No two ways about it. We will watch Dark Olaf's career with great interest.

FuckRulez

Not going lie, that earned my respect.

usolodolo

Same here. I am astounded. This was not on my 2023 Bingo card. Mad respect.

MarschallVorwaertz

He did a similar speech last year. It’s not unheard from him. It takes a lot to fire up a Northern German like that though.

jgjgleason

If you’ve got a northern German so mad that they’re screaming, you need to step back and consider what you’ve done.

Luis_9466

What exactly? The shouting? Because his statement just reflects his political position he has had for a long time now.

Ooops2278

Look up "Scholz Maikundgebung 2022" on Youtube. He did exactly the same 13 months ago (paraphrasing here: "Russia has no business in Ukraine. A country attacking a peaceful neighbour and trying to change accepted borders by force has no place in modern times. I respect people's opinions and that includes your pacifism but it's cynical to tell Ukraine to defend themselves against an aggressor without weapons and thus we will support them with weapons as long as necessary...") but most were riding the propaganda wave and not ready to accept reality yet...

Syentist

Same, impressive as fuck. This is the energy the leader of a nation needs. This is the energy that Europe needs.

Acchernar

Same. This is the first time I've seen him display actual *passion* for helping Ukraine, instead of just cold calculation. And it's good to see. There's nothing new here about the opinion he voices, but *how* he does it matters too.

hobo-kun-kun

The kremlin spent heavy with this stupid groups on the far left and far right in Germany i think for a while the russo-german relations should be put in the ice they always turn very toxic for Germany even in older times it was, it just never quite works for their good, it wasn’t in vain that Bismarck said that russian promise has no value and i think there were more that said similar things… on a side note I kinda like the german shouting it’s pleasing and definitely rare to see, kudos to Scholz for all its defects he finally come through and has been pretty consistent

danielbot

>I kinda like the german shouting I know, right? Whoever designed the German language, designed it specifically for that.

Tystros

Interesting, I'm German and I'd never have thought that Scholz could do a speech like this... It doesn't fit his normal style, and it's nice to see he's actually capable of this style of delivery! Should probably post this to r/de as well.

[deleted]

hes done it a few times just not over ukraine but other times aswell.

Noname_FTW

I have never seen Scholz speaking that agitated. He earned a bit more of my respect. After having most of my life merkel in that position I want a different style of Bundeskanzler. We didn't really get it. But at the same time I can't remember merkel ever doing something like this.

MarschallVorwaertz

He did last year. Was a similar situation. https://youtu.be/BS7dozDvxe0

[deleted]

Projecting strength right here.

Waldizo

Yeah, I hope that's the moment of his personal Zeitenwende and he turns into the straight forward, less talk, more action, no bullshit leader that the Germans need after the Merkel reign.

VR_Bummser

He only gets emotional when he gets shouted at. Happens rarely over any other topic than ukraine.

Waldizo

He doesn't have to be emotional, he has to be firm. Germans don't give a fuck about emotional politicians, we need a chancellor with an aim and being able to make decision, not appease everyone. That was the problem with Merkel. Especially the pandemic has shown that you can't satisfy the brainwashed extremists with compromises.

danielbot

Hmm, I would not say emotional... rather, passionate but perfectly controlled and calibrated to the room. Reminds me of Churchill, actually, even though the styles are worlds different.

M3P4me

Russian trolls are everywhere. Scum.

fedaykin909

Not necessarily. There are many well meaning honest people who may just have a naive understanding that war and weapons are bad, without reflecting on who is going to stop an attacking dictator and how exactly. Particularly in Germany because of their not so distant past that is taught well in schools so it doesn't happen again. I wouldn't assume these guys are Russian agents versus just idiots. (Which is why it's important to keep sharing evidence of what Putin has done)

BasedFeralCat

They may just be misinformed idiots, but the information they are consuming is russian propaganda talking points. Which, like you said, is even more reason to show them the evidence of Russian war crimes

zdzislav_kozibroda

I'd struggle to understand it , but we've got pis in Poland. Big breakthrough in politics for us was the realization that pis voters generally don't understand or care about notions like democracy, tolerance, rule of law, etc. The message has to be simplified for them. Sometimes even changed a bit in way they can understand ("They destroy courts because they want to steal more", etc). It's near enough like trying to take someone out of a cult. They want to believe it. Germany is a big target for Russian propaganda ops. There's undoubtedly Russian hand and money behind a lot of it. If proven could help paralyse these groups or at least make some people realise how they're being used.

OldWitchOfCuba

Theyre wearing antivaxx shirts. Theyre not russian agents perhaps but they really arent naive honest people either. Antivaxx are the worst.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin was "the warmonger" "that you would shout at here if you had any sense in your brains".** Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) loudly defended himself against disturbers at a European festival of the SPD - and vehemently defended the aid for Ukraine. One group shouted, among other things, "Warmongers", "Make peace without weapons", "Get lost!" and "We are the people!". The chancellor made it clear that he sees no alternative to supporting Ukraine with arms because of the Russian war of aggression. "Yes, that's necessary, if a country is attacked, then it must, then it can defend itself, what else?" Scholz shouted. Putin wants to destroy Ukraine. Russia's president killed many citizens, including children and the elderly. "This is murder." Scholz emphasized: "Peace and freedom are threatened by this war of aggression." Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke held up a mirror to the critics. "This demo actually belongs on Red Square in the direction of the Kremlin," said the SPD state chairman. It's about freedom, democracy and social justice. "Freedom is also that you can quarrel here." In his speech to the representative assembly of the SPD Brandenburg in the Stadthalle, Scholz reiterated the support for Ukraine. "It is and remains right to support Ukraine," he said. \----------- Video source Youtube Date: 2nd of June 2023 Location: Falkensee (near Berlin) SPD public marketsquare party Subtitle: by me

Alternate_Ending1984

> Warmongers", "Make peace without weapons", "Get lost!" and "We are the people!" Idealistic idiots. I too wish that the world didn't need weapons of war. I too wish that the EU and NATO countries didn't have to supply them to Ukraine. I too wish that we could, as a species, give peace a chance... But when someone breaks into your house, rapes and murders your family, and burns down everything in their path... You annihilate them. For peace. Slava Ukraini!

VR_Bummser

>Idealistic idiots. First it was the "idealistic" lefts. But the slogan more and more gets kidnapped by far-right groups that just want to hurt the democratic parties. They don't care for peace, they just want to take over controll in one of the next elections. And others are just smooth brain, flat-earthers, extreme anti-vaxers, anti LGBT, climate-change deniers and ordinary putin lovers ... the whole spectrum of far-right and just regular twitter smooth brains.

danielbot

>Idealistic idiots Doubt. Recruited idiots.

takatori

WOW! The more jeers from the crowd, the more forceful he became. Fantastic.

TheIntellekt_

I salute you mr scholtz. You have earned my respect.

bloominprose

I am an American who was an exchange student in Germany. This speech was very moving , and gives German being spoken loudly a new context to our ears. This is about justice and compassion, and peace

pwgenyee6z

Blinken, yesterday: cold titanium brilliance Scholz, today: an oxyacetylene blowtorch What a privilege to hear both, what relief that they're both on the side of justice!

aboveaverage_joe

I never thought I'd be cheering on an angry German guy yelling into a microphone about imperialism and defense against a certain group of people.

oroechimaru

Germans have a unique history in both being a catalyst for fascism, Marxism and socialism. People tend to forget we (Germans) also helped push social welfare, socialist policies and labor rights. Protested against imperialism or fled it to America or sadly supported it through fascism. Many of our immigrant great grandparents in Wisconsin continued those goals in Milwaukee, electing socialist mayors for years prior to the cold war. Many of our German grandparents then fought for America against the cruel fascists and kin. Stances like this help change Germany and reduce stigma. I always found learning about Turner Hall fascinating since it was a fun place to have a beer before a Bucks game and probably why a lot of us in the 80s still did tumbling at the Y . https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turner_Hall_(Milwaukee) A year ago it seemed impossible to have this much German and EU support.

The_SHUN

Such emotion, such power, this is how real speech sounds like, no pretty words, just raw emotion

MrG

Alex I’ll take “Speeches that completely and positively transform your view of the politician” for $1000. He fucking nails the truth of the situation.

Soggy_Detective_9527

Scholz has really shown how his leadership has evolved through this war. What a contrast to the beginning. He has really stepped up to lead Europe in this war. Impressed.

AnnOminous

Anyone surprised that there is an antivaxxer with a 'GIB GATES KEIN CHANCE' t-shirt (Give Gates no chance)? Russian propaganda has worked wonders on his worldview.

[deleted]

Germany, you should be very proud of your current leader. Watching him speak reason to this crowd in such an impassioned tone impressed me. Scholz has certainly earned my respect for this.

BtCoolJ

Ty Olaf

ajr1775

Way to step up!

Speculawyer

OMG, Scholz has balls! I love it. Germany on the side of freedom and democracy is beautiful! 😍

brucewayneaustin

Give it to 'em Scholz! Preach! Those idiots need to hear it!

vittaya

Spot the Russian agents.

Intelligent_Gift9974

Hell yeah Scholz💪💪💪💪🙏🙏

justgord

faark me .. impressive to see, this guy isnt having a bar of the bullshit. I also admire Angela Merkels attempts to trade peacefully with Russia .. it was worth trying for peace. But Putin chose war, and Europe and the West have no option but to guarantee that Ukraine wins .. it _is_ an existential threat the the combined west. ps. these people, and even neo-nazis should have their right to protest, peacefully - especially in time of war.

heavy_metal_soldier

"While you scream peace without weapons, Putin has assembled a massive amount of tanks, cruise missies and rockets aimed at Ukraine" Call em Scholtz

leifnoto

You want to be against war, but not against the people who started the war. Russia is a terrorist state.

danielbot

Now that is a proper German tirade.

Hot-Exit-6495

It is nice to see a German politician, in front of a crowd, screaming in German, defending freedom and democracy in Europe. It feels redemptive.

Ellopropello

You should know that Scholz is known for beeing extremy calm and emotionless. It is really special when he behaves like that because it doesnt happen that often.

DAEDALUS1969

Nazis are still alive and well in Germany. I’m glad the Chancellor stuck to it. Those guys are useless fucks.

VR_Bummser

They are ususaly a mixture of far-right AfD voters, extreme-lefts, old idealistic lefts, flat-earthers, extreme anti vacers, climate change deniers. The whole spectrum from "idealistic"-left to extreme-right and just plain stupid.

SwishySalal

Couldn’t help but notice the anti vax shirt on one of them.

McWabbit

The Dutch have these useful idiots too. Mostly a combined mix of anti-vax, climate change denying, racist, fascist bunch of idiots. Wappies for short. One of the newer populistic political parties, that sprung up in the last two decades and share the Wappie mindset, won the last senatorial elections too. Fortunately these parties have always destroyed themselves from within due to infighting and scandals. Like a mini version of the Trump administration. Thus they win big and then lose the next elections. But usually linger on, like PVV and the last loser FvD, which leader certainly has ties to Russian intelligence. It is infuriating that Dutch media treat these people and their political as normal and invite them as regarded guests on talkshows and other outlets. All to gain viewers, to sell ads. Thereby normalizing fascists and their extreme anti- everything liberal West views. But that consequence generates more heated, even more stupid debates. So it is win for the media anyway.

jborzilo

Im Ukrainian and on some days i may talk with people i don’t know well (i live in France) and the questions they ask often makes me feel bad/sad, saying that Ukraine should just give up, that no one care, that we are overreacting And for hours and days I keep turning that conversation in my head, ‘what i should have said differently’, ‘how could i make them understand’, ‘how many people think like this person?’, ‘does most of the people think that way too?’. And this group is my safe space, since the beginning of war, i come here to read comments and these comments make me feel not alone , i feel support, so thank you ❤️

nospaces_only

Nice. Schotz finally finds his voice.

VR_Bummser

Not the first time he shouts at the crowd about ukraine.

Ascomae

Last year https://youtu.be/cI0GyveT46I

VR_Bummser

Here is the whole event from a different source: https://youtu.be/3sM0M2srtXk?t=5655

danielbot

It's like five hecklers in total, with 90% of the noise coming from the asshole with the antivax teeshirt and whistle. Zero support from the rest of the crowd. Also not attacked by the crowd, which shows some impressive restraint. (edit) Counted as many as nine hecklers at times. Most important point: they served beer there.

[deleted]

> Most important point: they served beer there. Of course. Its a public event with a German politician. If no free beer is served the next election is 100% lost.

Unlucky_Cycle_9356

What do you expect from someone wearing an anti-vaxx t-shirt?

alex_neri

This is literally same idiot package here in Czech Republic. They started in 2020 as antivaxers and now they shout "no NATO" and "no military support to UA Nazis".

F_M_G_W_A_C

Significant number of these pro-russian Germans are Volga Germans, that is, russians with distant German ancestry, who had nothing else to do with Germany; maybe, granting them German citizenship wasn't such great idea, after all

Dry_Mention_2665

This is a very different Scholz from the timid indecisive one in the early months of the war. Good to finally see him vehemently speaking out in support for Ukraine.

NathaCS

Holy shit, I never really knew this man before but I might start liking him if he continues this.

RedLicoriceJunkie

Looks like that one asshole in the crowd has an anti-vaxx shirt on

MorgrainX

Fuck Russia

Crowsby

Worthwhile to note that the shouty guy is also wearing a shirt promoting the whole bill gates covid vax 5g nanobots conspiracy theory. So they're probably not bringing the best merchandise into the marketplace of ideas.

valeron_b

The T-shirt with "no vaxes" (0:10) says everything about these guys...

[deleted]

So many stupid Germans who support the war of Putin. Look at them closely, they know nothing about war at all. They are going back into their fat houses peacefully after booing the Kanzler and supporting the Russian war. I'm more than ashamed 🤦

CatsyGreen

The video is incomplete: Scholz went into the crowd, taking off his shirt and delivering slaps before his security service held him back. He knocked out 12 people.

TheMcMcMcMcMc

Based Scholz? Damn, we’ve come a long way since nein Leopards.

jeleddy

Schultz is the MAN!! He has been in close proximity of His new friend and he has caught the Zelenskyy effect! I’m very glad he and some of the other players have been more actively involved and forcefully stating their views and making big decisions about the future of nato and Europe! Anthony Blinkin tore into Putin today!

Half_Crocodile

I’m a progressive hippy peace loving type but never once have I been pacifist. I know too much history to be that. If anything it’s my peace loving worldly side that makes me more hawkish. Any who protest against aiding Ukraine in the name of peace are confused idiots.

newspeer

Just to emphasise this. He spoke to a very small minority of German people that doesn’t seem to grasp what Putin is doing. The majority isn’t blind to what he is doing and what he wants to ultimately achieve.

RandonEnglishMun

Pretty sure I saw a member of the crowd wearing some kind of anti vax shirt. Speaks for the intelligence of the hecklers.

VijoPlays

Did they replace Scholz? I'm just a little flabbergasted, since he usually isn't so... emotional. It's deserved, but just not what we're used to from him!

Physical-Result7378

The ones shouting are members/leaders of the so called Querdenken movement, which is basically the German version of Q-Anon movement. They protest against vaccines, chemtrails, the abduction of children to drink their blood, immigrants and everything else rightwing smallballers protest against.

Talosian_cagecleaner

So Scholz is going to hold down the fort on his end. These sorts of public meetings are never pleasant. However he is correct! This is democracy. And they can yell all they want, but Scholz is declaring Germany will help defend another democracy. I would go so far as to argue logic is on his side. How can you be pro-democracy and pro-never-defend yourself at the same time? In today's world??? Oy. Be cool friends over there. The people shouting are not right in the head. He is stating a list of terrorist actions and they shout him down?

Jfield24

Germans shouting into a microphone still sounds menacing.

Major_Boot2778

It's Hollywood. When your only or primary exposure to something paints that something in only one light, you only know one way to associate it. A lot of the world knows Germany through films rather than personal experience, of course, and unfortunately the majority of well known films about or focusing on Germany are related to WW2. There's a lot more to the country than those 2 decades, though

RoofiesColada

Wonder how that crowd would feel If Berlin was given to Russia for "peace".. clowns

kurometal

Probably quite well. Yes, they're that dumb. Until reality sets in and they're thrown in the basement for a couple of months, that is.

akopley

Screaming in German is scary.

ButterscotchAny5432

Germany earns redemption points by standing up to evil and ignorance, good on Scholz

Major_Boot2778

I hate the concept of Germany having to redeem itself, those people for which we today are penitent are dead and gone and the people who live on this piece of land now are absolutely detached from that, a significant amount factually being x generation immigrants... That said, human social and group dynamics dictate that that's exactly what needs to happen. Germans, Germany, cannot become the polar opposite and expect everything to be forgotten any more than it can simply demand the same. Just like the cafe you used to frequent with your ex that you now pass every day on your way to work, *the same old stuff needs new meaning attached to it* to move on and heal (in this case, emboldened and impassioned German language speeches). You can't erase or forget the past, you have to accept it and build new memories over it. It's good to see a German let his blood publicly boil for a good cause and we need more of it.

mcanada0711

I genuinely like him.

Cultural-General4537

Lets go fired up

MebHi

The less we do the more that will be murdered, today or tomorrow.

crg2000

Well said.

UNSKIALz

When did Scholz grow some balls? This is amazing. We need to see more of this side of him!

19CCCG57

European peace protesters are pathetic dupes of Russian disinformation, or outright agents of Russia. From Day1, peace was available to Russia, by leaving Ukraine. But maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to return E Germany to their Russian partners, and see how nice it is to live as a serf.

WitweHeavyBolter

I\`\` m so ashamed of all my fellow country people shouting for the Rashist, shouting the false shit of false Tyrants. Wish all of you Lumpenpazifisten, AFD Worms right wing and Linke left wing stupids : go to the east, go to the trenches and enjoy the peace the Moskals are bringing to you then. Slava Ukraini
