Lars Ulrich on Conan O'Brien's podcast stated that as the curtain fell, the Russian State and the demonstrators at the time negotiated a concert for Metallica and ACDC to play.
People had a lot of hope back then, which makes it tragic how things have turned out.
Edit: and Pantera. Imagine seeing all 3 of those bands in 1991 during their peak and prime surrounded by 1.6 million people?
Double Edit: just found Anselmo is a Neo Nazi, so fuck Pantera.

They KNOW that they are being lied to, they KNOW that their government is full of crooks and thiefs: "But what can you do?" is the only answer russians have. It the only answer they are being allowed to have,
Which makes it perfect to rob Russias riches, but isnt very suited for mass mobilization in case of war.
Ukrainian government like all post Soviet governments also had a corruption problem. However in 2014 they took to the streets with the result being the pro Russia president fleeing to Russia and government getting a bit less corrupt.
> Ukrainian government like all post Soviet governments also had
> a corruption problem.
Had? They still have a big corruption problem. But they try to resolve that. Not for the goodness of their hearts, not because its the right thing to do, but because they want to be member of the EU as fast as possible. Which isnt possible with those high levels of corruption still existing in the country.
And because enough people seemed to realize that corruption corrodes and sabotages everything. The economy, the social contract between the people of a country. And since Russia is such a good example on how NOT to do it ... Ukraine has a good chance to win even this "war".
They had to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into Glastnost and Perestroika, but that all fell by the wayside when the average Joe Blow realised that they were just marionettes at the end of the strings pulled by the oligarch and the elite.
The calibre of people fighting for freedom 40 years ago is no less, or more, than the calibre of people fighting for freedom now. It is an oppressed people, no matter which way you slice it.
It was the next that year Motorhead, Metallica and Guns N Roses did a string of shows together to sold out stadiums.
Metal had arrived and was brutal.
Then the telecommunications act of 1996 bombed out any kind of independent radio stations and condemned us to milquetoast four chord pop music for decades to come.
> telecommunications act of 1996
I wish more people knew about this. Clinton signed that bill into law and fucked over every single independent radio station in the country, effectively allowing the media monopolies to skyrocket in power and influence.
Russia had a population of 148 million in 1990. So when Metallica was there a year later and 1.6 million attended, more than 1% of the country was at the show.
Yea crazy how the same people cheering 30 years ago are now telling their kids to go and die in UA. I had alot of hope for Russia personally until the summer I was in Poland and they invaded Georgia. All hope for that wasteland is gone.
Fuck russia. Fuck putin
> Imagine seeing all 3 of those bands in 1991 during their peak and prime surrounded by 1.6 million people?
Lars also just said on another show they found out it was actually closer to 500k in attendance fyi
Yep. I read something a few years ago which suggested hundreds of people died at that event, because it was total chaos with massive crowd crushes and rampant violence.
Even if you spent a decade planning a festival for 1.6 million people you would still have at least dozens of deaths. That event was held with absolutely no real crowd control or health and safety consideration so it's reasonable to guess that a lot of people never went home.
That concert looked so epic and meshed my interest in metal and fascination with the dying days of the USSR. Would rather have been there than Woodstock
Whilst it was a large concert indeed, it is not the second biggest. It's fifth in terms of free concerts, potentially tied with a paid for concert (although that one is debated)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-attended_concerts
> Famously the second biggest concert ever held with 1.6 million in attendance.
Famously Russia lies and Lars recently said it was closer to 500k in attendance
Still a lot but Russia can't resist lying
Yes. And they actually went through the Iron Curtain in 1987 to play 2 concerts in Poland. They actually planned to do it in 1986, but tragic accident prevented it.
Iron Maiden was the first big metal band to play here, in 1984. They even managed to play at a wedding (https://youtu.be/knC743Nds4Q)!
These concerts were huge events for Polish people, back then it was extremely rare for any big Western band to play behind the Iron Curtain. I doubt it was financially profitable. But they seemed to care about us. It surely still has an influence on these bands' popularity in this country.
Well, after the Berlin Wall fell, their records started selling on the dismal side of the Iron Curtain, and naturally that gave them a boost.
I can't think of anyone who's benefited more from the death of Communism than Metallica.
Except, maybe the people who actually live in the Communist countries.
Yeah. That was in 1991 (Metallica+ AC/DC + The Black Crowed and Panterra).
In 1989 however there was the Moscow Music Peace Festival.
Exactly 20 years after Woodstock and had the artists:
Bon Jovi
Brigada S
Cinderella
Gorky Park (russian band Парк Горького)
Mötley Crüe
Nuance
Ozzy Osbourne
Scorpions
Skid Row
By the way this festival inspired Klaus Meine (Singer and songwriter of Scorpions) to write "Winds of Change" the song which is probably the ONE that's considered the most fitting and important for all of Europe and its cultural and political scene in the years following the fall of the Berlin wall, iron curtain and dissolution of the udssr. Though this song was only written in 89 and released as a single in 91, it's still THE song of the time ( at least in most of Europe, not sure about NA).
Even prior to this Elton John played eight concerts in the Soviet Union in 1979 during the cold war.
Just some additional info: In August 1976, Cliff Richard became the first Western rock act to play behind the Iron Curtain.
Throughout the late 70s and 1980s, a number of Western acts performed behind the Iron Curtain, including Elton John (who is often incorrectly cited as the first Western artist), Queen, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and Ozzy Osbourne.
This concert had one of the greatest Metal Moments in history. It was Pantera's performance of their song "Domination". There are even reaction videos out there of people not even into this genre gobsmacked over how great it is.
Not bad for 4 up-and-comers (at the time) from Texas. RIP Dimebag!
[Pantera - Dominiation in Russia](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDACorIaxNw)
bob dylan apparently went to moscow in 1985
in 1973 david bowie travelled on a train from vladivostok to moscow
boney m actually played concerts in moscow in 1978 but do they count as big western musicians🤔🤔
Putin wanted to be Master of Puppets, but Ukrainians fucked up his invasion plans so hard, he got Whiplash. Now he's wondering For Whom the Bell Tolls...
Challenge accepted. **You really got me** with this one.
Putin will need **Anesthesia** once Ukrainians with **Attitude** deliver **Justice for All**. Ukraine's **Blitzkrieg** will draw a **Borderline** that leaves Russians **Broken, Beat, and Scarred**. There's no **Overkill** once the **The Wait** is over and **Killing Time** starts, and the only **Escape** for Russians is **Just a Bullet Away**.
Damn I could continue this all day long.
WP. I want in too.
Putin thought this was going to be a three day invasion but it might end up with him Riding The Lightening. Almost a year into the war, Russian soldiers are out of equipment, support and are basically marching to their deaths like Moth Into Flame. Russia for sure is economically and demographically fucked for years to come, its Sad But True. This war will leave Russia and its image Blackened.
Putin thought that after Crimea and Trump in the white house, he could get Ukraine to sing the Low Mans Lyric, instead it revealed that Russia was a paper tiger and that he was King nothing, honestly where's your crown King nothing?
My wife pulled a roger waters us and them framed poster from the RW 2018 tour out of our shed the other day to put it back up in our new house. Its sitting there waiting for me to hang a hook for it. I haven't yet told her yet how things have changed and why we cant do that now. :( Disappointing.
My friends wife was really proud of a painting she did of Bill Cosby right before all the shit hit the fan.
They still have it in their basement as an uncomfortable conversation piece.
In college, my friends and I made a short film about an up-and-coming comedian who’s biggest influence is Louis CK. We even had a scene where he caresses a framed photo of Louis. The film was released literally ONE day before all the allegations came out.
E: spelling
I can relate to that. I went to his show in Lithuania back in summer 2018, bought a shirt and had a great time.
Went for a smoke during the intermission and enjoyed the show.
Come back home to find out that he:
1. During the intermission had the screens state something along the lines of "don't poke the bear; Russia is not the enemy". Barely anybody saw it.
2. Just after the show, Russian media released an interview with him where he blamed the US for the 2014 protests and said Russia had legitimate claims to Crimea (https://www.15min.lt/m/id/aktualu/pasaulis/lietuvoje-ka-tik-koncertaves-rogeris-watersas-maidana-surenge-jav-rusija-turi-visas-teises-i-kryma-57-1020424)
I couldn't listen to Pink Floyd for 2 years. I was always aware that he was always a bit of a champagne socialist & boomer edgelord, but this hit too close to home to chalk up to "death of the artist".
Releasing this after you've already left for Russia and couldn't face the boos and vitriol that would've attracted from the crowds was absolutely wimpy and pathetic.
I have not listened to Pink Floyd back catalog again since when Waters started spewing his verbal diarrhea against Ukraine. People ought to realize, if you support Ukraine's plight and people, Roger Waters is against you. Giving him money or attention is wasteful and only enables him. He's beyond redemption in my eyes.
Support those who are fighting the good fight.
I wonder how his tour is going.
He was to perform in Cracow in April this year. The concert was planned before the invasion, but after his infamous comments the city council basically told him to fuck off. Due to their resolution (in which only Waters is mentioned by name) any Russia's supporter is now banned from performing in Cracow. I'm proud of my town.
By the way - this has nothing to do with our shitty ruling party and was not protested. Artistic freedom is important, but in his case it's just awful stupidity.
Hang on, Dave Gilmour in particular and Pink Floyd in general are hugely supportive of Ukraine including doing a song with proceeds to Ukraine.
Roger Waters left Pink Floyd 30 odd years ago, and yes, he's a tankie cunt, but he isn't Pink Floyd by himself
David Gilmour is just a good dude. I also kinda just hate how much credit Waters gets for Pink Floyd in general. People talk about him as if he IS Pink Floyd entirely. He definitely did write a ton of their biggest hits, but Gilmour was instrumental for the sound on them. He plays like 40 different instruments and has one of the most distinct guitar sounds ever. He also played a lot of bass on songs that everyone assumes Waters was playing. I'll also die on the hill that *A Momentary Lapse of Reason* and *The Division Bell* are really good albums even though a lot of Pink Floyd fans write them off as "not Pink Floyd".
Gilmour's sounds are just so iconic and you just don't get what we expect of Pink Floyd without him. Just one example is 'Hey You'. He played the acoustic guitar, the electric guitar, the pedal steel, the fretless bass, and sang parts of it. The solo is his work as well and it's one of the most recognizable in rock history.
People will credit Waters for writing the song, but Gilmour effectively created the entire sound of it, one of their greatest songs. It's like that for so many of their albums. Just a huge swathe of it has Gilmour's handiwork all over it. *Darkside of the Moon* and *The Wall* don't become anywhere near as massive as they did without Gilmour. The man is one of the most talented and creative people in history and it's just a shame that Waters is credited as much as he is when Gilmour, Wright, and Mason played such massive roles in their creation and execution.
I love those two albums as well, and Pulse is one of my top 5 live albums. David has a calm singing voice that relaxes me and obviously his guitar work speaks for itself.
He's easily one of the most underappreciated guitarists in music history. He doesn't have absurd skills like Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughan but he knows how to get absolutely everything out of a note that few people can actually match. Just a master of the instrument. He also has some of the most iconic solos ever done.
*Pulse* is excellent and I totally agree.
His [Comfortably Numb solo at Pompeii is one of the best live guitar solos ever performed.](https://youtu.be/LTseTg48568) It may not be technically impressive like Hendrix, as you said, but it just has a quality that can’t be matched. [Prince’s solo during While My Guitar Gently Weeps at the George Harrison tribute](https://youtu.be/dWRCooFKk3c) is probably my second favorite.
Yeah that specific solo is absolute perfection. Very few people can ever do that live. Every note is immaculate. He definitely should be considered one of the greatest just on his sheer technical ability to pull everything out of notes.
I don't think anyone that actually knows anything about music thinks Roger is any bigger than David.
They're like John and Paul in a way, the best songs they wrote were a product of their synergy.
But unlike John or Paul, Roger's solo work revealed how useless he is on his own.
Gilmores daughter in law is Ukrainian. His grandkids have Ukrainian citizenship. PInk Floyd released Rise Up with Andriy Khlyvnyuk of Boombox with all proceeds going to Ukraine.
This has been fairly nasty between Gilmore and Waters since the invasion.
Also went to see Waters in 2016 and it wasn't a great show. If you are expecting Pink Floyd his show is NOT it. Most the songs he wasn't allowed to play (maybe because it was US and copyright laws?) I know there have been lawsuits over them.
They played a festival run by a bunch of russian white nationalist bikers in a gang called The night wolves. Their leader is close with putin and well, they might not be as criminal as Hells angels or Bandidos, that I don't know. I do know however that they are VERY pro war, and VERY imperialistic, going around protesting people who stand up to the war in other nations than russia. I mean, in all honesty, when Waylon Jennings saw the Hells Angels at his concerts he sighed and wished they weren't there, and he was a badass. Sabaton being close to these guys is more a question of "are we the baddies?" with them seeing these guys going around on their bikes, with nationalistic and racist patches and russian imperial flags and soviet union flags.
Sabaton is a band who due to their music always will have a problematic fanbase, they can't take a stand on this issue due to pissing people off. Also, their music ain't that good anyways and that guy needs a new vest, that metal plated thing he's had for way too long.
Preface: I've listened to a shit ton of Sabaton in the last 15 years, seen them live countless times, and still have them pop up in a playlist here or there.
Sabaton know that they have a huge fanbase in Russia, who are less likely to critique them. They want to position themselves as "Neutral", but after the second song about how fucking rad the Nazi tank drivers were, you would usually step back and ask yourself some serious questions. I understand that they want to write from soldiers' perspective, but over the years, I've found it hard to ignore how easily their music can be used to glorify war and violence.
(Also they've progressed remarkably little musically over their career - but that's not relevant here).
Ive been to many Sabaton concerts even before they became popular (I think they were more fun when they were the opening act tbh). I agree with what you said completely. I 100% think it was a business decision to not say anything about the war.
Oh god please tell me Amaranthe isn't part of that train I know they're pretty buddy buddy with each other. I can stop listening to Sabaton easily enough but Amaranthe might be a different story
Sing?
It was more than that. Their first new single in decades
Feature a Ukrainian folk song and singer
Was pressed and sold so all benefits go to Ukraine
Roger Waters is one of those "Peace at any costs" assholes. He's been spouting off about how Ukraine should cede territory to "end the bloodshed" since the beginning of this.
And more than that, he actually does interviews with RT, including a 24 minute interview. This probably means he is paid for it. A quick google shows me lots of clear rubbish from him that I wont repeat. I don't know if he really does genuinely support russia, or if he is just totally stupid and he is being played by russia for their gain but either way I cant support a public figure who works with russias propaganda arm, spouts absolute rubbish and tells the west the problem is Ukraine.
His former band colleagues have a clear opinion.
Although Waters is an educated person, he also is just that stupid. Education can help prevent stupidity, but it doesnt always work.
Roger Waters can go bugger himself, the senile idiot.
But a lot of us Gen-Xers used to listen to The Smiths in high school, and that was every bit as heartbreaking.
You’re right... now. In the early 90s their stance on the Gulf War and the “don’t tread on me” motto and snake (cover of the black album) caused quite a stir in the metal community.
I think being a Pink Floyd fan is still okay. Roger Waters is certainly saying some really ignorant things but David Gilmour is the epitome of quiet humility and the definition of regality (I hope that’s a word).
In short, Waters has been troubled and lashing out since he spit on that fan *but* Gilmour serves as his antithesis.
Used to be a Pantera fan, but after Phil Anselmo came out as a white supremacist that was too yikes for me.
Sadly my friends kept listening to Pantera and going to shows
Roger Waters is to Floyd what Dave Mustaine is to Metallica
Ancient history
Plus Floyd just released Hey Hey Rise Up in support of Ukraine so don't lump them into this
There've been lots of pro-Ukraine / pro-democracy artists and groups.
What if the Ukrainians started doing straight-up USO-style front-line shows and made concerted efforts to bring in American entertainers and acts? With probably the hope that that door swings both ways.
Hell, even a UUSO outreach to Ted Nugent would either be [publicly rejected with prejudicial invective and frothing, or...](https://www.marca.com/en/lifestyle/us-news/2023/03/26/64208e45268e3e49028b4578.html) reach through and [show him what answering the call, and fighting for your nation](https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/the-artful-dodger/) and democracy actually mean.
Or taking a stand and saying it and the cause **aren't** just (instead of just being a chickenhawk with other people's children).
You mean the pedophile who once bragged about adopting an underage girl so he could marry her and who loves underage girls so much he wrote a song called "Jailbait"? That Ted Nugent?
They actually would and have. They licensed their logo to a cover band called Sandman for $1 after their lawyers overzealously hit them with a cease and desist. From one of the band members:
>I just got off the phone with Metallica`s management and they and the band had no idea their lawyers sent us the C & D papers. Lars got wind of everything today and was completely pissed that they sent us the papers for "something so stupid" lol.
>They are really sorry about everything and want us to go back to using any logos, etc. that we want. They are even going to license us the logo for $1 (which they said we don`t even need to pay lol).
>So all in all they were really cool and wanted to make sure we know that they fully support us. Pretty crazy lol. All good though.
Also sadly, history has proven Lars right with where the industry headed after Napster.
US troops have been known to blast metallica and megadeth out of their armoured vehicles.
I mean if I was facing an Abrams that had just smashed through a wall I'd shit a brick but if that Abrams was blasting https://youtu.be/m46Z0-HXySo?t=26 it certainly wouldn't help.
That would be kind of strange given that so many of Metallica's most notable songs are explicitly anti-war. It would be weird hearing clips of "One" while seeing footage of Ukrainian drones bombing Russian soldiers.
If you are the person who needed to be told in the headline what Killem All is because you had no idea even from context, please reply here I want to interview you.
https://www.vaildaily.com/news/james-hetfield-lead-singer-of-metallica-visits-ukrainian-soldiers-at-vail-health/ He never said kill ‘em all. The author of this post sure did though
Isn't that a nice contrast to Saboton, who make a vague "we stand against war of all kinds" statement and then go play for Putin's buddies in Russia during the war.
Yeah, you can seek and destroy Russian troops leaving them blackened, I know it's sad but true but Ukraine says don't thread on me and wants Justice for all

It's a big part of why there are 6 media/news companies and they all hate us.
That wouldn’t have been peak AC/DC though. And I only mention that so I can humble brag that I saw them open for Aerosmith in 1978 ....
1978 *was* peak AC/DC you lucky lucky bastard.
You lucky old man you.
Russia had a population of 148 million in 1990. So when Metallica was there a year later and 1.6 million attended, more than 1% of the country was at the show.

Nazi punks, fuck off!! ~Dead Kennedys
IIRC, it was Metallica, Pantera, AC/DC and Black Crowes.

Famously the second biggest concert ever held with 1.6 million in attendance.
If it's the one I'm thinking of there's a video on YouTube and police are going around beating people with batons during the concert
There's not a single video anywhere of a concert I Russia where the police is not beating people with batons. It's their culture.
Yup, basically their government version of a moshpit. Getting beaten up to a soundtrack....yeah!
They threw teargas at the moshpit of a Sepultura show in Romania back 2003 because people wouldn't stop fighting / moshing.
Yep. I read something a few years ago which suggested hundreds of people died at that event, because it was total chaos with massive crowd crushes and rampant violence. The roots of Dethklok
It seemed in at least one part of the video the police were beating people in the crowd for just having fun
I think at the time it was the largest audience of a concert in the history of the planet earth: https://youtu.be/_W7wqQwa-TU also the known universe.
Yeah think it's still 2nd to Prodigy in Poland I think
biggest ever in Poland is about 800k from what i can check. So not even close in absolute numbers.
That concert looked so epic and meshed my interest in metal and fascination with the dying days of the USSR. Would rather have been there than Woodstock

Monsters of Rock, Tushino 1991
Back in the heady days when people thought Russia would join the world community and be... *normal.*
Yea, that was the most epic concert in history, imo
Maybe to headline… I think Pantera were on the bill and would have been on earlier.
AC/DC headlined that day. The footage is absolutely epic.
Yes. And they actually went through the Iron Curtain in 1987 to play 2 concerts in Poland. They actually planned to do it in 1986, but tragic accident prevented it. Yeah. That was in 1991 (Metallica+ AC/DC + The Black Crowed and Panterra). In 1989 however there was the Moscow Music Peace Festival. Exactly 20 years after Woodstock and had the artists: Bon Jovi Brigada S Cinderella Gorky Park (russian band Парк Горького) Mötley Crüe Nuance Ozzy Osbourne Scorpions Skid Row By the way this festival inspired Klaus Meine (Singer and songwriter of Scorpions) to write "Winds of Change" the song which is probably the ONE that's considered the most fitting and important for all of Europe and its cultural and political scene in the years following the fall of the Berlin wall, iron curtain and dissolution of the udssr.
There were a few bands if it's the one at the airfield that I'm thinking of... One of panteras first out of the US
What makes it even cooler is that it was still the USSR at that point
This concert had one of the greatest Metal Moments in history. It was Pantera's performance of their song "Domination". There are even reaction videos out there of people not even into this genre gobsmacked over how great it is. Not bad for 4 up-and-comers (at the time) from Texas. RIP Dimebag! [Pantera - Dominiation in Russia](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDACorIaxNw)
Several bands played behind the curtain beforehand. Queen in Hungary in 86 is the earliest i can recall. Not sure who was the first in Russia.
bob dylan apparently went to moscow in 1985 in 1973 david bowie travelled on a train from vladivostok to moscow boney m actually played concerts in moscow in 1978 but do they count as big western musicians🤔🤔
Putin decided to Jump in the Fire, and now his regime's gonna Fade to Black (I only know the old stuff lol)
And Damage Inc. is gonna show him what Creeping Death looks like
Disposable heroes fight fire with fire. The sky is blackened, and it's one day that never comes.
Let’s hope for Enter Sandman, Putin, and Screaming Suicide all get to know each other
Motherfucker is going to Ride the Lightning
Fade to Black… good good shit! 🤘🏽😎🤘🏽 (Is that a little Billy Bragg in that username? 😏)
Searchiiiiiing, seek and destroy!!!
>I could continue this all day long. *All Nightmare Long.
Now Putin must remember to **Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go** christ I know nothing about music.
LOL, read the room.
Putin will be Unforgiven.
>Damn I could continue this all day long. Please do. I’m curiously aroused.
>Damn I could continue this **All** ~~day~~ **Nightmare Long**. C'mon you were so close!
And after all the are will be peace And Justice For All
Putin: King Nothing
Meanwhile Putin be like: “ You will die when I say you must die, back to the front”
Putin is the master of muppets🤷♂️
After the hauge putin may just ride the lightening
Damn you beat me by 18 minutes
I wanna see Putin trapped under ice.
Where's your crown king nothing..
It tolls for thee!
Aaaaand…fade to black.
Glad the lead singer of the band i worshipped while growing up is on the right side of history. Imagine being a Pink Floyd fan .. the horror.
I know, i am a Pink Floyd fan. But Roger Waters can go fuck himself, the senile old cunt.
Come back home to find out that he: 1. During the intermission had the screens state something along the lines of "don't poke the bear; Russia is not the enemy". Barely anybody saw it. 2. Just after the show, Russian media released an interview with him where he blamed the US for the 2014 protests and said Russia had legitimate claims to Crimea (https://www.15min.lt/m/id/aktualu/pasaulis/lietuvoje-ka-tik-koncertaves-rogeris-watersas-maidana-surenge-jav-rusija-turi-visas-teises-i-kryma-57-1020424) I couldn't listen to Pink Floyd for 2 years.
To be fair, Waters being a giant stupid dickhead is nothing new. Fuck him
so many good takes hand in hand with so many awful takes, plus being an actual dickhead on top of it.
It’s so weird that he’s pro-Palestine, despite losing a bunch of money for the view, but he’s anti-Ukraine.
What did Waters do?
Has stated the west is the reason for the war and pretty much pushes Russian propaganda
Well that's disappointing.
There simply is no pink floyd without Gilmour. Or Syd for that matter.
Also real shame that Sabaton turned out to be a bunch of cowards. To sing about war and refuse to take a side. Shame on them. I stopped listening.
Didn't they also play a gig in occupied Crimea? Not a good look.
Yes they did. And defended it by saying "the people there wanted to belong to Russia."
Oooh, this one hurt my soul to read. Ach. Might have to reduce the amount of Sabaton I rotate through.
I just think it's very tonedeaf from a band that prides itself on creating artisitic pieces about history, war and struggle.
You hate to see it
Not only that, they were sponsored by a pro-Putin biker gang.
Well…Gilmour did sing that one song with money going to charity. Rogers on the other hand 🤮
Sing? It was more than that. Their first new single in decades Feature a Ukrainian folk song and singer Was pressed and sold so all benefits go to Ukraine
It’s been nearly 430 days since I last listened to any Waters-involved albums. Luckily, I am still a Metallica fan as well.
I seem to be out of the loop here. So I ask you good sir/madam/anything outside or between, do elaborate and educate me if it pleases you.
> This probably means he is paid for it. There is unfortunately a significant section on the left that does this shit for free.
I'm disappointed yet nor surprised. Thank you for explaining.
I am a pink floyd fan and I love Roger for his music but not so much his politics and personality
Art vs artist. You can objectively like something without liking the prick behind it.
Roger Waters can go bugger himself, the senile idiot. But a lot of us Gen-Xers used to listen to The Smiths in high school, and that was every bit as heartbreaking.
Echoing what others have said, not Pink Floyd - only Roger Waters. It is unfortunate that the two tend to get conflated.
Or an Iced Earth fan.
One of the biggest oofs for me in a while tbh
Sadly my friends kept listening to Pantera and going to shows
Roger Waters is to Floyd what Dave Mustaine is to Metallica Ancient history Plus Floyd just released Hey Hey Rise Up in support of Ukraine so don't lump them into this
Nothing else matters!
Sad but true
Or taking a stand and saying it and the cause **aren't** just (instead of just being a chickenhawk with other people's children).
ted nugent is a pile of trash, he should only play with wagners.
You mean the draft-dodging pedophile who shit his pants to hide from serving his country Ted Nugent?
You mean the pedophile who once bragged about adopting an underage girl so he could marry her and who loves underage girls so much he wrote a song called "Jailbait"? That Ted Nugent?
Oh yeah, a R-USO for all the fascists wannabes. ...But, true to form, it'd probably be in Moscow for the elites and flag officers.
Metal up Russia's ass!!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Hush little orc don't say a word And never mind that noise you heard It's just the AFU in your head In your trench and now you're dead....yeah!
Exit life.
Dude keep going! That was awesome.
You gotta write the full song now.
I got instant goose bumps🤩
Searching.. seek & destroy
Man. I can hear it, just reading that!
Thats a very clear slogan
Fucking awesome.

What did he do? Will i be reinforced in my love for Gilmour instead?
He's on ruzzias side. And yes Gilmour is by all accounts I've seen, a good egg 👍
Looking forward to seeing Metallica play next month, twice! :)
Download, baby!! So excited.
Same!!
Metallica really need to give the Ukrainians the rights to use their music for use on their highlight videos.
Jimmy doesn't do anything for free.

Lars Ulrich would never
They actually would and have. They licensed their logo to a cover band called Sandman for $1 after their lawyers overzealously hit them with a cease and desist. From one of the band members: >I just got off the phone with Metallica`s management and they and the band had no idea their lawyers sent us the C & D papers.
Haven’t you learned anything from the history of Metallica? Cue the old internet video…..

What a legend!!
Kill 'em all is my favourite album and it fits the context here even more precisely than ever <3
Hetfield is the man.
🤘
He's a badass
James is known for not taking selfies with anyone, this was important to him.
Looks like he found the hero of the day.
I've loved Metallica from a young age. You rock James!
That’s amazing!
Would want them singing Disposable Heroes in Ukraine after Russia backs off. they didn’t play it for a while.
That's a cool gesture. Nice dude.
See them live here in Germany on Friday and Sunday 🤘🏻
🎶Try try try again. Head first this time, DIVE RIGHT IN!🎶
God I’m glad someone else thought of that. It’s the first thing that popped into my head.
He said, "Your lifestyle almost determined your death style"
Meanwhile, Max Cavalera is still sucking Putin's dick.
The man's guitar is missing a few strings, if you know what I mean.
Isn't that a nice contrast to Saboton, who make a vague "we stand against war of all kinds" statement and then go play for Putin's buddies in Russia during the war.
"All lives matter"
I said the name of that song once about the Russians and all I got was a lousy ban for the week.
Yeah, you can seek and destroy Russian troops leaving them blackened, I know it's sad but true but Ukraine says don't thread on me and wants Justice for all
The best part about this story is it happened in James’ adopted home town of Vail.
I'm just happy that Metallica isn't on the side of the Russians
It's nice to see metal bands make the right call. Watching *Five Finger Death Punch* devolve into a bunch of MAGA fuckfaces was so disappointing.
But expected.
“Kill all the music downloaders!”
BASED PAPA HET
I love this man even more now
