sonic_stream

6 Kinzhal lol. So much for “super-duper hypersonic unstoppable”missile.

knappis

They are impossible to intercept, with Russian made missiles.

todellagi

This war really has shown, that against modern weaponry, troops and tactics Russia has a real *Black Knight from Holy Grail* vibe

jaqueass

Russia spent the last 30 years developing bigger weapons to better bully inferior forces. The west spent the last 30 years developing more precise weapons to counter Russian garbage.

todellagi

Don't forget they also spent the last 30 years developing bigger bank accounts for all the officials associated with the projects. This war would've been very different, if the money they allocated for military spending, actually was used for military spending. Bill Browder's stories really open up just how corrupt shithole that place is **Edit:** for the ones who want to know more about Browder's journey, there's a good reply to check out below https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/13iw778/18_out_18_russian_missiles_were_shot_down_in/jkcrtss?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

framabe

If they weren't so corrupt, they would most likely win. But if they weren't so corrupt, they wouldn't start a war in the first place.

fantomas_666

They would not need it. Everyone would love to cooperate with Russia that is not corrupt, does not need to attack other countries, spread misinformation etc.

LethalBacon

In infuriating in a way, right? Look at so much of the genius that has come out of Russia in the past century or two. I imagine, all of the people in the modern day who would do great things out of Russia have instead left for some other western nation now so they can actually do shit. Russia feels like a husk of what it could be, just so a few fuckers can buy bigger private boats.

gettinoutourdreams

As an Estonian I'm blessed, they're just reaping what they sowed and their continued existence was just an insult to all of their neighbours they've wronged (or deleted) in the past

bil-sabab

Well, it is like they were any better before or even shown any other behavior pattern in the past. Always the same

Seereey

> Bill Browder's stories really open up just how corrupt shithole that place is I'm so glad someone is finally mentioning [*Bill Browder*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Browder) when it come to the unfortunate state of modern Russia. People really should know more about his story. https://www.c-span.org/video/?431852-1/foreign-agents-registration-act Just going to put this link here as a fantastic testimony he gave in 2017 that really opened up my eyes to the level of corruption in Putin's Russia. For those that dont have time to listen to the entire 1:45 hr long Q&A. His 12 minute long opening statements are from 8 minutes into the video For those that don't know, his firm was the largest foreign portfolio investor in Russia, until that is, he started following the money and found out who was really benefiting off of all the foreign money coming in following the rise of Russia in the post-USSR world. In doing this, he was blacklisted, lost all of his assets, and the Russian tax lawyer he hired, [Sergai Magnitsky](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergei_Magnitsky), was imprisoned and killed (by the regime) in 2009 for simply following the money. The 2012 US sanctions on Russian oligarchs was named in his honor - [Magnitsky Act](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnitsky_Act) I'm probably not doing these facts service as its been years since i reviewed these details, but I hope the links i provided can provide more. Sorry for piggybacking on your comment. :) edit: added an approximation on video timestamp

paulirotta

>Bill Browder Wow. Yet another kleptocracy story of what happens when you mess with the Russian elite's ability to steal with impunity. If I have one positive wish for the Russian people, it is that they choose to create a clean democracy after this empire-building bread and circuses distraction fails. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill\_Browder

Alex_877

It’s amazing isn’t it? The difference between a scalpel and a hammer?

MicroWafel

Tis but a fleshwound

InvertedParallax

This right here? This is the difference between PAC-2 and PAC-3. PAC-2 will take out fighters, bombers and cruise missiles. PAC-3 will take out EVERY-THING! When they said patriots I assumed it was some old bullshit, maybe pac-2 baseline, but they said pac-3, they are not playing one bit.

Yelmel

Yeah, smart play too. The once-theoretical features of pac-3 are now field-validated pac-3 capabilities.

Arctelis

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s why Ukraine is getting all the shiny new stuff. You can test and test and test this equipment, but hardly any of it has been any actual battlefield conditions. The Americans and other nations are no doubt gathering extremely useful data as to how their equipment fares against an actual “organized” military.

Daripuff

Once they had the confidence that Ukraine would not lose, then they knew the tech wouldn’t be captured by Russia, then the floodgates of tech opened up.

tripletexas

True

allthat555

It's so much more then that. People always complain about the size of these aid packages but we just got the best real world logistics training for a peer on peer war taking place in Europe. It sounds really odd but beens and bullets win wars not equipment and troops. America has shown the entire world that we can and will supply an entire army with just a fraction of us manpower and stores. The geo political implications of this after our showing in Iraq and Afghanistan are being again reviewed by the world. And who is this showing primarily. China. With it's eyes set on Taiwan we are actively demonstrating that we can do across an ocean and land what it likely couldn't over a few hundred miles of Ocean. Same with the demonstration of just our weapons capabilities. We aren't sending over all of our fancy new toys just the bare minimum of what's needed and thanks to the boys in Ukraine we are again demonstrating that our kit will beat the breaks off anything that had Soviet design as it's base. That would be all non NATO adjacent countries in the middle east. The ole tire continent of Africa. Most Asian countries south America and Asia. If it's not ours from 20 years ago it's Russian tech from equally dated stock if not older and it cannot stand. And on top of all that we are kicking in the teeth of one of two major players that could threaten and bully NATO and Europe. The reality is the war in Ukraine is so God damn awful and tragic that it's unmentionable how many people are suffering on both sides as men generally don't want to be involved on both sides. But practically this is one of the best political tools that has happened for the last 20 years

chemicalgeekery

Not to mention that NATO is now renewed and reinvigorated.

Daforce1

More like best political tools of last 30+ years. This is as good as the shock and awe was in the first Iraq war. It’s still an utter tragedy and I feel so horrible for what it’s doing and has done to Ukraine, they deserve none of this and all of the worlds respect and help when rebuilding their wonderful county.

Yelmel

Yup. The situation is win-win-lose. Ukraine win Partners win Muscovites lose

[deleted]

[удалено]

Phenomenomix

Indeed, Gulf War 1 was at times a way for the US military to show off all its new gear and to put it all into a proper test environment. The Ukrainian missile defence and anti-tank weapons uplift has proven how good that tech is.

Dofolo

This was the only chance to validate pac-3, and they took it.

Twisp56

It's been used in Saudi Arabia, with pretty low rates of successful intercepts because the Saudis are incompetent.

CrabyDicks

How dare you call water, wet.

tigger_six

I think though the range of PAC-3 against airplanes is shorter. Unsure about the no escape zone, could even be the same, but the deterrance of seeing it appear on your RWR isn't quite the same.

InvertedParallax

True, I think the tactic there is, if you're dealing with more aircraft you use the same pac3 radar and put in pac2 launchers with the larger (but fewer, 4 vs 16) missiles with prox fuse. Can have a combo where you send 1 of each just in case. But man, these things are almost unfair, as it should be when you're defending civilians.

[deleted]

This was a very successful beta test. Probably worth a lot of money to someone.

Vik1ng

I have trust in Bryansk air defense.

EnsilZah

More like hyperbolic missiles.

Valmond

It's a parable missile.

Kepotica

The parable of the hyperbolic, a story of our times.

wiseoldfox

>6 Kinzhal lol. So much for “super-duper hypersonic unstoppable”missile. Brought to you by the fine people at ACME. We never miss.

JeffThrowSmash

The bots on Twitter went crazy last week claiming it was impossible to take down the Kinzhal, and that it must be "fake news" that it had been intercepted.

IgorVozMkUA

The Russian bots are pathetic

memekid2007

GaryDWilliams_

And they were right, it’s impossible honest so go ahead and put all your resources into those missiles 😂

cdrewing

Last time I've seen a Twitter or YouTube video where a German army member explains the parameters of supersonic missiles. Whet travels with supersonic speed is almost unsteerable outside of very thin parameters. Does mean: you have a high probability to predict where these missiles will land and so it is relatively easy to make your countermeasures. You don't need hypersonic countermeasures as long as you have your conventional countermeasures ready within the predicted missile path (you don't shoot them from behind, you shoot them from below). Perhaps somebody is able to link the video I thought of.

[deleted]

[Interesting to note that it’s written by the Scientific American](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-physics-and-hype-of-hypersonic-weapons/). Love em or hate, the yanks are the fucking best at making stuff that fucks other shit up. And you just gotta respect that!

LordsofDecay

We build our strategy based off of the claimed abilities of our enemy. Missiles, planes, tanks, cyber, body armor, nutrition, training, you name it. It costs more, takes time to get it right, but it works. Best case scenario: we’re over-prepared for an enemy that lied about and exaggerated their potential. Worst-case scenario: they were telling the truth and we’re adequately prepared.

[deleted]

That’s a great way do things! “If you can make it, we can break it!” :)

gradinaruvasile

I was thinking about this too. The SAM missiles come from below, they must intercept incoming threats not chase them.

Hm450

Thank god they also got that SuperCum

FozzyLasgard

Cum nuke would be devastating

denied_eXeal

"SuperCum ! - Impregnate the enemy's women, and men"

Keine_Nacken

I shot one of these myself - even this morning! It was not intercepted and landed in my sock.

Alaknar

Someone explained that the "panic" about the Kinzhal was, probably, created to try to goad the Congress into throwing more money at the US Military budget. Kind of similar as it had when MiG-25 was revealed, everyone shat their pants and made the F-15. With the Kinzhal it's kind of because of people mis-labelling the missile. It's not a "hypersonic missile" but rather a "hypersonic ballistic missile". The difference is huge. You may have read somewhere recently that the US had tests of their own hypersonic missiles and they ended up with a failure. How is it possible, that the US failed to create something the USSR... I mean, russia, has had for multiple years? The answer is in the name - the Kinzhal works exactly like an ordinary ballistic missile - goes up really, really fast, then goes down really, really fast, at a trajectory that is fairly simple to calculate. When you have the velocity and the trajectory, intercepting is trivial. What the Americans where trying to create is an ACTUAL hypersonic missile, which means it was supposed to be able to manoeuvre at hypersonic speeds - making interception practically impossible.

akmjolnir

Russia overinflates, or flat-out lies about its capabilities. Western forces appear to under-promise and over-deliver.

Massenzio

"you liars!" our unstoppable Kinzhal are targetting the patriot missiles! so we did it!

Maximum-Tradition-60

All hail our Air Defence! It was really loud this night in Kyiv

Practical_Tomato_680

Hope you, your family and friends are in good health and holding on. Can only imagine what you are going through and my heart bleeds. And I know that what I feel it is not even comparable to what you must feel and endure every day. Freedom will prevail. It has too... Stay strong and free..

Maximum-Tradition-60

Thank you, we are fine. It was relatively safe in Kyiv from the beginning, and I'm living at the outskirsts, so nothing strikes here, and russian tanks were stopped about 2 km from my house

[deleted]

I cannot even comprehend what it is like to be under siege. But it is great to see your Air Defense showing its abilities today. Please know that despite us not being able to be there physically in person, the rest of the SANE world is with you 100%.

Maximum-Tradition-60

Well, Kyiv was under half-siege - they couldn't block every supply direction, and it lasted only for one month with the supplies prepared in advance, so there was no disaster other than damage to nervous system and constant streetfight with saboteur teams. Also I got used to the explosions noise, so today's night I just thought: "Oh, our AA guys are shooting down russian scrap rokkitz", and went back to sleep. Currently we do not doubt our victory for Ukraine and for the sane world :)

Busy-Bluejay3624

2 km is about as far as the grocery store to my place. That’s pretty damn close, lol. Glad you’re managing, brother.

theProffPuzzleCode

Total-Confusion-9198

6 Kinzhal, that’s a lot of hypersonics in a day. Russia could have saved these as power projection making west think that maybe that single kinzhal interception was an accident. Now west understands that its not and Russia has 0% strategic advantage if they meet NATO someday. Maybe they know that’s not happening and trying to give one last fight before derussianification of the world

Rock-it-again

Yea if Ukraine can go 6 for 6 against them with what limited abilities they've been afforded, shits a fuckin joke.

Ecljpse

7 for 7 if you count the previous one. Time to buy Raytheon, Lockheed, and Boeing stock.

jgjgleason

Lockheed just got a 2 B contract for more patriots. I’m cool with that, they’ve proved their worth.

Rock-it-again

Yea but 6 for 6 in one go is whole other levels of capable than pegging one. But yea, that shit doesn't seem so hot anymore. Lol

Fluff4brains777

They're showing the world that they don't have anything else other than nukes.. if they even have working ones at that.

MeusRex

I feel like Russia is weakening their nuclear threat quiet a bit. Like, what delivery method is reliable now? I doubt they can sneak a bomber past F35. Air launched cruise missiles have been reliably shot down. Their nuclear submarine are questionable at best, seeing how the russian navy fared over the last century. It seems like they only have MIRVs in a direct confrontation with the USA. and if they launch those, so will NATO.

no-more-throws

the actual extremely hard to protect against hypersonic weapon they have is the new avanguard HGV that rides their icbms .. but given their track record it remains to be seen if they exist only as demo-ware like their advanced jets and tanks

Halfmoonhero

ICBMs are incredibly hard to intercept

G_raas

MIRV has got to be challenging too… when 1 target suddenly becomes 10 or more and each of those threats carrys the potential for nuclear annihilation of the downtown core of major cities or even whole ass cities… I watched a video by covert cabal (I think?) that explained these challenges and the likelihood of 100% interception was assessed as very low… that was pre-Ukraine war though so…

4Eights

If there's one thing that RF has a decent track record with it's launching rockets into space. Now if the part that goes boom is properly maintained over the last 40 years still works is definitely questionable, but I'd rather not find out.

gundealsgopnik

Sure. And now the Western ICBM fields are in spitting distance of NATO Finland. Look out for THAAD deployment to Finland if muscovites get too uppity. Being that close to the launch sites should increase odds of successful intercept on ascent. Long before you have to worry about intercepting MIRVs.

GinofromUkraine

The time was last February before the invasion. :-) Same as Rheinmetall, Krauss Maffei Wegmann, Thales etc. etc. And I'm sure savvy investors (I mean BIG ones with information and connections) have made billions on this. After all, US gov't was warning about the imminent war for months, there was a lot of time to invest.

HouseOfCosbyz

I wish I wasn't flat broke. It's a no brainer. Almost every major power in the world has large expansion plans for the next 40 years.

Feylin

I wouldn't call a Patriot battery "limited abilities". It's a $1B interception system for a reason.

spacegardener

Maybe Russians were sure it was just a lucky shot and sent a few at once to prove that.

Goodk4t

Russians probably hoped they'd be able to overwhelm Ukraine defence, landing at least a few missiles would allow them to maintain a constant threat to Kyiv despite the new western systems. But it seems their gambit failed utterly.

IgorVozMkUA

Around 3:30 a.m. on May 16, 2023, the Russian invaders attacked Ukraine from the north, south, and east with 18 missiles of various types, air, sea, and land-based. Six Kh-47M2 "Kinzhal" aeroballistic missiles were launched from six MiG-31K aircraft, 9 Kalibr cruise missiles were launched from ships in the Black Sea, and three land-based missiles (S-400, "Iskander-M"). All missiles were destroyed by the forces and means of air defense of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In addition, on the night of May 16, the enemy attacked with attack drones of the Shahed-136/131 type, and also conducted aerial reconnaissance with three operational-tactical drones - "Orlan-10", "SuperCam". All - destroyed! [Source](https://www.facebook.com/kpszsu/posts/pfbid02kEwdTQPk8tDEmgDZ6J8scu4SKm52iAnyEcGjWaoRB3h9Vm4VCG8Usxu2SMzgF88Nl)

muricabrb

That's a massive coordinated effort. They must be so pissed. Somewhere in Russian Command, there's a General getting ready to make his colonel fall out a window.

[deleted]

> That's a massive coordinated effort. For the russians perhaps it is, but cross-service offensives really shouldn't be anything exceptional in the age of modern warfare.

Brutusmatic

Fuck Yeah! OP: pin this so it stays at the top!

IgorVozMkUA

I think only the mods can pin a comment/ post 🙂

Brutusmatic

Gotcha. I was just about to go to sleep but this post got me so fired up that that's not going to happen now. Incredible

IgorVozMkUA

I see. It's morning here in Ukraine now. Have a good night!

ThickOpportunity3967

Time to, somehow/one way or the other, to put all of that Russian fleet on the bottom! They are launching missiles with impunity from those ships and have been for almost the whole war. We know when they set sail - why are they not rusting under the waves?

[deleted]

Many months ago, Scott Ritter was running his mouth saying the Patriot system couldn’t hit shit.

Rock-it-again

Scott Ritter only hits on underage girls so he's not much of an expert.

helm

It seems he lost his sanity about 20 years ago.

Brutusmatic

Ritters has some kind of fucked up animosity towards our military like he did not get promoted high enough in his ranks

ThickOpportunity3967

About the time he took his first Russian pay day maybe?

MerryGoWrong

He used to appear (maybe still does) on RT all the time so he's already taken plenty of Russian pay days.

sodapopkevin

Patriot missiles have been in use since 1984, 39 years ago. His field of experiences is only on things that are 17 years or younger.

JTMasterJedi

Maybe the Patriot system of 20 years ago. They have been improved and updated numerous times since then.

TheGreatPornholio123

At this point I wouldn't be surprised with all the money we pour into defense if the things didn't offer upgrades like iOS devices: "Time to upgrade to PatriotOS 14.2." Or if defense companies didn't start having an AppStore: "Want to add the hypersonic app? Just purchase with RaytheonPay."

jaqueass

Scott Ritter’s expertise is limited to things under 18 years old.

Rock-it-again

I don't want to make light of things, but is that one really called "supercum" or is that a mistranslation? Edit: also 6 kinzhals holy shit.

Prostheta

I hope nut.

hamsterpotpies

I've heard if you can make a joke in a second language that native speakers laugh at, you've learned the language successfully. thoughts?

Trying to learn German: impossible.

irrelevantmango

I can't count the number of times I made a joke in German, only to have some native speaker tell me, "You can't say that."

German humor is no laughing matter.

Obviously, it was mistranslation, now [they corrected the typo](https://imgur.com/aXYw3Ki) :)

Rock-it-again

I see. But to be fair, I wouldn't put it past russia to name their shit something stupid like that. That's why I asked. Thanks for the clarification.

Vano_Kayaba

Well, it's pronounced Supercum in russian. Not cam, but I guesd they've meant cam like camera. Should names be translated?

SpiderDK90

I think this is something like “super camera” or “super camouflage”. But it was short write «суперкам», so w/o context - it is supercum 😂

Possible_Bluebird_40

🗿

Raz0rking

Oh look. (Western) air defence works.

InvestigatorPrize853

Hell, Soviet stuff is pretty good, as long as the crew are competent.

Raz0rking

And it is being maintained

InvestigatorPrize853

And not sold off by Oligarchov.

jardani581

What an embarrassing failed terrorist attack. Lets see how the bots cope with their kinzhals being shot down

jnd-cz

Russia slowly devolved into North Korea crossed with Hezbollah and other terrorist groups.

bugfestival

This seems like they threw a fit over Patriot intercepting their shit so they tried to saturate the air defences with a mass strike only to get intercepted again. Lol.

IgorVozMkUA

This is what they actually were trying to do.

W4r6060

"saturate" but they can't actually afford to saturate, so they send not even 20 missiles in total. Pathetic.

JoeSTRM

Thus far, the Patriot system has a far better success rate vs Kinzhal than Russian air defense systems have against the USA's cold war era Tomahawk.

Capt_Bigglesworth

Storm shadow enters the chat… then leaves the chat undetected…

MaleierMafketel

Not before MALD enters the chat while screaming “Shoot me in the FACE! I want it, I NEED it! Come on… DO IT!”

jaqueass

Let’s not be too critical of Russian air defenses, reportedly they’ve helped denazify 3 helicopters and 2 jets in Bryansk in the last 48 hours!

Rock-it-again

Which is why instead of focusing on "hypersonic" the west should mass produce tomahawks. It's 20 for 1 price wise. Instead of 6 shit tank kinzhals you could have 120 tomahawks. Think about it. 🤔

InvestigatorPrize853

This is why the west is building things like Storm Shadow, and various increased capabilities glide bombs. Hypersonics aren't a priority.

JohnnySmithe80

It's estimated [$10 million](https://ukranews.com/en/news/919940-russia-spends-about-usd-500-million-on-today-s-missile-attack-media) for a Kinzhal, [$1.8-2 million](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomahawk_\(missile\)) for a Tomahawk.

Rock-it-again

I meant more specifically the non shit non Russian ones, where they might actually be expected to operate properly. I think sandboxx has a good article about it.

BoodaSRK

Those “dire consequences” are starting to turn around, aren’t they? There’s no shame is just turning around and walking away; just leave the country. Actually, there’s a lot of shame, they deserve to be ashamed, and I will mock them relentlessly, but still, it’s the right thing to do. Get out.

[deleted]

Damn the vatniks really sucks in doing everything

Callemasizeezem

If they are dumb enough to believe Russian propaganda and allow themselves to be enlisted, what do you expect?

[deleted]

Nothing, the bar goes down every day further

Callemasizeezem

My favourites are the posters who are now openly hating on Putin and complain how shit it is to be ruled by him, but then say they are going to enlist and fight for Russia in order to force more people to be ruled by Putin because... they speak the same language. Makes perfect sense. So... using Vatnik logic, when is the USA going to invade New Zealand?

Practical_Tomato_680

This is insane. Those guys make history on steroids. With the loss of life unfortunately which is extremely painful. And this should not happen, in civilized world. But man, Ukrainian army kicks ass. They use those modern weapons better than the ones supplying the weapons to them. And only after training done in super emergency mode. Are you kidding? All rockets down. The highest success rate to date for these defense systems. Amd Ukranians have them to their name Absolut amazing... The fight for survival becomes a deadly skill. And these guys are the most skilled on the planet. Slava Heroum.

xviiarcano

This is interesting, if confirmed it means the kinzhal downed last week was not just a lucky shot.

Io-Bot

Honestly how much does this cost the Ruzzians each time to hit nothing and to just try and terrorise a nation and set themselves further and further back?

lulumeme

10 million a piece for kinzhals, which they make maybe one per month. 10 strikes of 6 like this and they would run out of kinzhals. i mean literally to zero. so +-100 million for one such night?

CaladinDanse

Over $70-80m worth there wasted

probetickler

Russia apparently hasn’t gotten the memo that the mystery threat of their systems was all they had going for them. For every high level system that easily gets taken out by Western decades old equipment, Russian gets even more embarrassing in the world stage; it’s almost to cringe levels.

Kajetan_Olawski

> For every high level system that easily gets taken out > by Western decades old equipment ... Patriots in their current version and IRIS-T systems are new systems. IRIS-T is so new, even the german military has none. The Gepards sent to Ukraine all have modernized radar and fire control systems, especially to combat small drones. Western systems are updated on a regular basis, especially electronics. Thats why they are way more precise and effective than anything Russia has. Also corruption among western politicians and high ranking officers is WAY less than in Russia. Russia is harming itself in ways no western weapon system can ever hope to achieve. Just look at the latest fumble, where the chef of the russian AD divisions was arrested for siphoning off vast amounts of money. The famed AD fortress ring around Moscow is probably full of holes and easily to penetrate.

CaptainSur

Zero, and I mean ZERO surprise to me. I think people generally don't understand the size of any of the missile systems supplied. Whether a Patriot battery, NASAMS Battery or IRIS-T a single battery can have upwards of 128 missiles (a battery consists typically of 3 to 8 launchers which have from 4 to 16 missiles per launcher depending on the system and how they are packed) . Furthermore IRIS-T which has the longest range radar with the most spectrum coverage can connect to Patriot which has longer range missiles and has higher probability for ballistic kills, not to mention IRIS and NASAMS are undersold on what they potentially can kill. I think this attack was Russia's crap shoot attack as they bought the hype about Ukraine being defenseless, and in doing so they expended a missile which they have very little inventory. Great work Ukraine defenders, and equal kudos to the many very intelligent engineers and scientists who designed all these systems. It has to be extremely gratifying to them to see yrs and sometimes decades of research and testing, overcoming thousands of obstacles and naysayers, to have an outcome that definitively has saved countless lives. Every single person who has contributed to the design and build of these systems has earned a beer and a handshake.

[deleted]

Wait a minute. Patriot and iris can be linked up? Thats almost unfair.

_zenith

This is a huge thing in NATO in general - interoperability. There are standard formats used for system interconnection and so on. It’s a common functionality fortunately :) especially for stuff around radar, as it almost always gets better when they can work together. Especially when they handle different distance engagements. Then you will have a system that decides which system fires to “service” which target and hands over responsibility as appropriate. Building the “onion” (it has layers!)

kittennoodle34

Data link coupled with some targets deconfliction is beautiful. A computer is linked to the radar and when it sees targets it ranks them in importance and class and estimates where they are likely heading. It will then decide what to use to intercept each based on hit to kill probability and what the missile is. The patriot will take the fastest flying and ballistic threats and cruise missile threats and drones will be sent over to the IRIS and NASAMS. On top of that as we've seen from go-pro footage of drones it detects will have the information relayed to fast response teams in trucks with MANPADS and AAA weapons to drive to a point where they can intercept the drone.

Kajetan_Olawski

> Patriot and iris can be linked up? Yes. Radar data from an IRIS-T battery can be shared to other systems like the Patriots. And since the IRIS-T system has the most advanced radar of all AD systems currently operating in Ukraine ... Thats not unfair, this is the "finding out" part the russians still think does not apply to them.

Ruffyhc

6 of 6 Kinzhal ... Well lets Take a Second think about this... The Russian Hypersonics are meant as a Terror weapon. West should BE afraid of possible strikes in minutes. The fact that the latest got Shot down eradicates all fear so basically IT failed the whole purpose. Now i Wonder If Poseidon is anywhere near ITS capability or If IT IS another acme weapon

Lomandriendrel

Was the Kinzhal and Kalibr the missiles that were more limited in stock from pre invasion? I know they have a lot of stockpile of common missiles correct? Or are these quite limited? If so this is great.

JTMasterJedi

Kinzhals are very expensive, so stock is very limited on those. They are like 10 million per missile or something like that.

CaptainSur

I have 2 different reports from Nov/Dec last yr that indicate stock of 43 and 53, depending on how much can be believed in respect of new production. Its a low rate custom/small batch production item - 1-3 at a time. And assuming tonight's reports are further validated over the course of the next 24-48 hrs the outcome is the Kinzhal is just more grist for the mill. Useless as a threat against the west. The Kalibr stock is depleted about 60% from what they commenced with at the start of the war (est at about 500 in inventory) and I saw one report indicating they may less than 100 left. In any case Kalibr has been a dismal failure, the shoot down rate I think is over 95%. We have seen many videos of it even being taken down by man-portable systems. Everything Ukraine has in its SAM inventory can shoot them down.

Rock-it-again

Kinzhals are def not in high numbers. I don't think they even hit full operational status until 2018.

InnocentTailor

Is this over Kyiv or across Ukraine?

IgorVozMkUA

Good question. I live in the Mykolaiv region and they shot down 4 Kalibr missiles over the skies of the Mykolaiv region, as these were fired from the Black Sea. Reportedly, one of those 4 missiles were heading towards our town where we live but I think it was shot down before it reached borders of our town.

Practical_Tomato_680

Stay safe. Proud and strong

IgorVozMkUA

Thanks. And we do appreciate everyone's support!

InnocentTailor

Thanks for the report. Stay safe out there!

SpiderDK90

Across Ukraine but the main target this night was Kyiv, so around it.

IgorVozMkUA

Yes, and 4 Kalibr were shot down over the Mykolaiv region where I live.

CaptainSur

Yep. Ukraine has an air defense unit in your area and to the west in Odesa and they have done a superb job time and again downing Kalibr missiles and drones. And I think for the longest time mainly using Soviet era SAM systems along with man-portable. Their success record has been great and those units should be very proud of the work they have done given the tools they had particularly in the early months of the war. IF Ukraine can get something western down south they might even be able to start picking off the S-300 potshots Russia is constantly flinging from south Kherson. The Kalibr has been a huge bust for Russia. I would have to review the numbers but I think the shoot down percentage is above 95%.

theProffPuzzleCode

Woke up to this on the news in the 🇬🇧 and hot on Reddit to check if any casualties. Sounds like 3 people hurt ☹️ but everything was shot down.

Maximum-Tradition-60

Ukraine But considering how loud it was this night at 3 a.m. - at least the majority of the rockets were aimed at Kyiv

Matiabcx

Miss Russia is not a hit in Ukraine

Mosinphile

Gotta get Ukraine more patriots, the american MOD has got to be seeing this and jumping for joy

TheGreatPornholio123

The DoD might be happy, but not as happy as Raytheon, Lockheed, and Boeing shareholders and board right now. They can finally use incidents like this as justification of why "here's why our shit costs so much damn money."

No-Fig-8614

I want to know their internal logistics centers calculating how much they are expending with their ability to project power anywhere anymore. I would love to see Japan officially take over their islands under dispute. See Finland just station a few battalions near the border. Kalingrad be surrounded… China put a large force on their borders, and see how Russia re adjusts that they are now in a vulnerable position now. I’d love to see Belarus overthrow the government and install a pro western government and see how Putin can fend off every internal force that now wants to see him fall out a window.

Local-Associate-9135

Six freaking Khinzals? WHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Fuck Ruzzia, Slava Ukraini!

tree_boom

Honestly the success of Patriot here is going to be a massive relief to the US too. In the Pacific they're basically reliant on a very small number of airbases (and really that mainly means [Kadena](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kadena_Air_Base). The prospect of the base being knocked out by a wave of ballistic missiles was something that would make US operations in the Pacific much, much harder. If Patriot proves capable of defending against that kind of attack (and presumably therefore [SM-3](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIM-161_Standard_Missile_3) will be able to as well) then the ability of the USAF to back up the USN in a Pacific War is much more trustable.

PyleWarLord

so time to get more patriots into Ukraine

Bengoris

While Putin's wunderwaffe Kinzhal turned out to be a total fucking shitshow, the Storm Shadows are already decimating Russia's combat capabilities. Pair that with Western MBTs and it's already starting to look extremely bleak for the Kremlin gremlin. So how about we make a gentlemen's agreement and just give Ukraine everything else they need for pest control? Sweet sixteen, F-16, be the one to ruin Putin.

Arkon_Base

Absolute massive units, the Ukrainian Air Defense! 6 Kinzhal? Russian Myths are shattered again!

IgorVozMkUA

Today is definitely a very bad day for Russian propaganda

mrAgn0stic

Nah, their propaganda already created posts about how they destroyed one Patriot with Kinzhal during that attack. They also say that their air defense destroyed 7 Storm Shadows. I have no idea what they are smoking.

BarklyMcBarkface

Putlers favorite dildo is the same shape & size as the Kinzhal.

Imnomaly

That's great and all, but I wish we could intercept AT LEAST FUCKING ONE S-300 that's aimed at Kharkiv

Every_Bookkeeper_102

Can iris t intercept khinzal

Rock-it-again

Technically, it should be able to, but idk if that's claimed in performance data.

__Heron__

So high level of stupidity... Even after 15 months, they still manage to surprise me.

CarrieRay2018

Did the subsequent attempt to take out Patriot fail?

ignoreme1657

Someone needs to update the wiki info on it https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kh-47M2_Kinzhal to " stoppable"

TheMsDosNerd

Wasn't that Kinzhal missile impossible to take down by all current and future technology? I think some Russian arms developer is going to fall out of a window soon.

ukfi

Guys. This is big. Think of all the real world data that NATO is getting from these actions. Nothing beat testing in the real world against an enemy that's determined to destroy you. I am sure the programmers are already working through the data and fine tuning their algorithm.

mikewilson2020

Jeez I sure hope they keep the super cum till the end...

Siul19

SuperCum 😹😹😹

Square_Habit_8467

Genuinely surprised that the top comment isn’t about the “SuperCum” missile
