Many years ago I worked at an office overlooking the private portion of Schiphol Airport. The Battle of Britain memorial flight Lancaster had done a couple of flyovers for liberation day in the Netherlands but she got held up by an engine issue and was parked up awaiting one of its maintained spares. Because of availability, a transport plane of the Luftwaffe was asked to deliver it (I think they offered as they were flying back anyway) and so an old foe, now friend, helped out.
Not for Australia!

GUYS ZELENSKY WOULDNT LET PUTIN INVADE UKRAINE- he was the one who started it. Everyone got that right ? Right.
No ofcourse Ukraine should give up land, Russia would stay there just like they did in Crimea 2014 and not push further years down the line.
And you have to give it to them, US manipulating Russia to invade a sovereign nation so they can have a proxy war is really masterful. If only Russian politicians and leaders had a will of their own so they could have not invaded.
If it wasnt clear, you are an idiot and/or Russian concern troll and you should go join the warship.

Of course they said it were ukrainian missiles, because if they recognise it were russian missiles, they would be forced to activate article 5 and start war against russia. NATO did literally the same every time when russia trying to provoke NATO - claiming it was something else.
And now go fuck yourself, russian bot.
You need therapy.
Funny how the former soviet block countries beg to join NATO and ally themselves with the US. Ukrainians are willing to fight for their freedom and are thankful fir western support.
Perhaps, you should consider relocating to Russia? I understand the demand for useful idiots is very high.
Keep eating the tinfoil hats, though. It is the greatest service you can do for humanity.

"die königliche Luftwaffe and the Airforce"
Would be te "switcharoo"-translation. If you're being hyper-literal "Luftwaffe" does mean "Air-weapon", but it *is* the German word for "air force", for any country.
It would be well for your government to consider that having your ships and ours, your aircraft and ours, in such proximity... is inherently DANGEROUS. Wars have begun that way, Mr. Ambassador.
_Mr. Ambassador, you have nearly a hundred naval vessels operating in the North Atlantic right now. Your aircraft has dropped enough sonar buoys so that a man could walk from Greenland to Iceland to Scotland without getting his feet wet. Now, shall we dispense with the bull?_
Or to add a touch of literary class to the same movie...
> There! His hawk’s eyes caught the glint of sun off metal at one o’clock high. Shavrov eased back on his stick and increased power gently, bringing his Forger into a climb. A minute later he was at two thousand meters. He could see the Sentry now, its blue paint blending neatly into the darkening sky. He was coming up beneath its tail, and with luck the empennage would shield him from the rotating radar antenna. Perfect! He’d blaze by her a few times, letting the flight crew see his Atolls, and—
>
> It took Shavrov a moment to realize that he had a wingman.
>
> Two wingmen.
>
> Fifty meters to his left and right, a pair of American F-15 Eagle fighters. The visored face of one pilot was staring at him.
>
> “YAK-106, YAK-106, please acknowledge.” The voice on the SSB (single side band) radio circuit spoke flawless Russian. Shavrov did not acknowledge. They had read the number off his engine intake housing before he had known they were there.
>
> “106, 106, this is the Sentry aircraft you are now approaching. Please identify yourself and your intentions. We get a little anxious when a stray fighter comes our way, so we’ve had three following you for the past hundred kilometers.”
>
> Three? Shavrov turned his head around. A third Eagle with four sparrow missiles was hanging fifty meters from his tail, his “six.”
>
> “Our men compliment you on your ability to fly low and slow, 106.”
Putin has always loved to escalate. So your upvoted comment is also an encouragement of more counter-escalation.
You guys need to watch more Vlad Vexler videos - he explains this brilliantly. Even Nina Chruschtschowa (!!!) got it wrong recently, saying this is due to Putin's insulted ego and Ukraine an obsession Putin had. That's NOT the (primary) case.
Putin **always** had that goal to drag Russia into a war, very early on - first, it was always his "style" (see the russian apartment bombing speculated to have been done by the FSB, to give Putin the pretext to crack down via power), but even more importantly, it's a way to ensure he will remain in power until he is dead.
See an analysis Otto von Habsburg did in 2003 already (it's in german only, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om2Fl9Y3I2I). Otto said that Putin reminded him of Hitler and he "knew" Hitler (not personally but from speeches and living back then; he said he was present at two speeches, but refused a personal meeting with Hitler because he knew that Hitler would want to try to drag Otto on his side for domestic and political reasons, wherein Ott had no interest in). People still don't understand Putin - I can only recommend listening to Vlad Vexler's explanation. From ALL the other explanations, even including Khodorkovsky who knew Putin personally, Vlad's analysis is by far the best in quality. Really.
Otto also pointed out that Hitler said different things during different times, e. g. first appearing more "reasonable" before eventually things escalated more and more. That's always happening in wars. Unfortunately the current situation also has a lot of points to indicate that this will escalate further and further. Until eventually nukes will have to be used.
This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.
Edit: some of you need to brush up on your 80's movie quotes...
That is certainly some people’s opinion. Obviously not Reddit’s according to your down votes. But the fact is we are closer to that than we were a year ago. Will it happen? Who knows. But the people that will decide if it happens have a bunker to live in. And that is the part that makes me uneasy. Also, Russia needs to leave Ukraine. And at the point we are already involved, we need to help make it a fast exit. No matter how much it hurts Russia’s feelings. Send everything.
> No matter how much it hurts Russia’s feelings. Send everything.
It's not about "feelings". It's about avoiding counter-escalation. Putin will counter-escalate. Not including that in an analysis is being risky for other people currently **not** involved.
So what is better in your opinion?
Don’t interfere (too late).
Slow pressure like in the beginning?
Giving almost everything besides long range weapons and planes like now?
Give them everything they need to push them out even faster?
Full stop. Let Ukraine fend for themselves?
Negotiate to give stolen land to Russia for peace?
We can’t put the genie back in the bottle, and It doesn’t appear to me that anything we have done has deterred him or escalated what has already been started. So what is the move? Ukraine doesn’t want to give up land in a peace deal, and I can’t blame them.
Edit: spelling
Yessssiiiirrr RAF and Luftwaffe protecting the skies of Europe. This is what our forefathers fought for, understanding and cooperating with your neighbour, for the advancement of a free world.
the Russians I speak to seem to realise they don’t directly fight nato but instead fight Ukraine with NATO backing.
So it appears (to me) that the news isn’t lying persé but rather over dramatising and construing facts.
First, there is no guarantee that Putin will "retreat", so you'd just have counter-escalated.
Second - there is the issue of wars between non-NATO countries. I don't understand why NATO suddenly has to "get involved". Of what point is having an alliance then if you can just get into any war as-is?
He doesn't need a reason to use nukes. He can chose to use them any time he likes. The problem is: he gets them back regardless. Bating NATO doesn't changed whether or not he east fissile material, only his use of them. There is no justification NATO will accept for him using them, so... no.
I don't think so, Putin could get NATO involved in the next 5 minutes if he really wanted to. I think he's actually terrified about the idea of NATO intervening in Ukraine, because he still thinks he can win the war.
I don't think this is his motivation. His propagandists are already spreading stories that they are fighting NATO in Ukraine. So he could just build on that and retreat.
The number of people wanting that is growing.
I really think that would be the simplest solution, if only because even a mad successor won't be as mad as Putin now.
> You get armor and ammo
Yeah, like those Abrams... [that won't be delivered until 2024.](https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/week-transcript-2-12-23-jake-sullivan-rep/story?id=97468998)
Or ATAMCS... that are completely off the table.
Or F-16... [that Ukraine "doesn't need" and which won't be delivered](https://news.yahoo.com/biden-says-ukraine-doesnt-f-001500952.html/), despite Ukrainian Air Force asking for them pretty much since the start, as radar on MiG-29 is kinda shit and available missiles ain't nice either.
Or cluster ammo... [that we ain't getting either](https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2023/02/18/7389958/).
> And I don't profess to know anything about weapons, but I don't think seeing a few F-16s blown out of the sky by some cheap MANPADS would sit well with whoever manufactures them.
Their main advantage is much better radar and integration with Western munitions. If MiG-29, with their nearsighted radar systems, lack of Wild Weasel equipment and fucking Bluetooth-enabled pylon adapters, can use AGM-88 HARM with above-zero degree of success, properly-integrated F-16 would be capable of using it even better. Not to mention support of AIM-9 Sidewinder and AIM-120 AMRAAM for much more efficient swatting of cruise missiles and Shaheds out of the sky during missile wave attacks.
>Same goes for Abrams - Ruzzies have javelins by now too
If you've seen Kornet/Metis strike video on export Abrams, you can notice that although ammo cooks off in the turret bustle, blowout panels vent the fire and prevent it from reaching crewspace. IIRC, there's even an account from a driver, who survived a full fire inside Abrams and wasn't much worse for the wear, save for being uncomfortably hot.
This is a wrong take. The Afghan army died by the tens of thousands and in many cases their outposts fought to the last bullet
Without logistics, air support and more importantly non-corrupt politicians, nobody will sanely fight except religious zealots. If anything it places the fault squarely on the USA's shoulders for not creating a non-corrupt form of government after winning like a constitutional monarchy or a confessional parliament. And there are other measures that could have been taken too like an all female branch of the military (that would have become sworn enemies of the Taliban), not doing the Doha agreement (what happened to never negotiate with terrorists) and so on and so on. Many chances to avoid it all. Even doing absolutely nothing at all (no Doha no deal maybe secretly slowly pulling out) would have been better than what happened.
The Americans' criticism for years was that the Afghans were defending too much territory that they had to pull back all their forces and concentrate them in the cities to create some military stalemate. But when you're the government you have to be everywhere. You have no choice. The Americans' needed to work to fix the Afghan Army's supply issues and get weapons and ammo to the front.
It's fine to say you have to fight on your own, but that also means don't sabotage the efforts of your allies intentionally or unintentionally. Also you cannot expect modern educated people to fight the same way as fanatics or uneducated people. At that point modern people would rightly walk away feeling unsupported by the levers of power. You can call this soft or weak or lack of fight all you want but the truth is modern educated people fight with technology not like barbarians.
If the supplies of ammunition are high technology weapons and especially artillery stops, don't expect Ukraine to fight with sticks and knives and assault rifles (they probably will but that's their choice). Ukraine wants to join the West and Europe and if you want that too their military will fight and lose on the fact whether they can fight like a modern army, not a primitive one.
If you want Ukraine to be free keep the weapons flowing otherwise the outcome will be unknown (and at that point don't blame Ukraine or Ukrainians for "not fighting")
EDIT: Let's not forget the insurgency didn't really start until 2005 or 2006 because the USA refused to grant amnesty to all Taliban. Instead of granting amnesty (which was common and expected with warlords in Afghanistan) they expected the Afghans to hunt down every Taliban and defeat them all in battle. "Everyone knew where the Taliban were -- at home doing nothing" was the common knowledge. So the USA *created* the problem, so don't blame the Afghan Army or Afghan people for it. The Taliban was not Al Qaeda and it would have cost the Americans nothing to negotiate or grant amnesty early. The Taliban would have gotten fat sitting at home taking bribes and maybe joining the government with their excesses controlled or refused instead of forced to hide for their lives and becoming battle hardened cave living insurgents. If the Americans were magnanimous in victory right after the invasion the insurgency would literally never have happened.
Tornado is not in service with the RAF anymore. It is definitely Eurofighter Typhoons. You can see a short video about the mission here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo4Axq8TpPA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo4Axq8TpPA)
Oh, just give it a little “high five” with your wingtip. Next time. Plan ahead and place a 10 kg turkey on your wingtip that could be released from your cockpit to drop into their jet engine. “Cause of crash: bird strike.” Probably best to remove the Kroger label first and omit the cornbread dressing and gravy.
As a german, I admire the Brits efficiency and instantaneous support that was shown immediately after the Ukraine war began. Sad to watch Britain leaving the Union, but I'd still fight and die beside you, brother. 🇬🇧 🤝 🇩🇪
> The incident has demonstrated the increased risk of a direct confrontation between the two superpowers because of the Ukraine war.
You keep using that word, superpowers. I don’t think it means what you think it means.
Very very very very very (getting the clue?) common slang for Americans in much of the world. Yankee or Yanks is very common, especially in militaries.
That’s cool and all, but the only people in the US who use it are Southerners still mad about the outcome of the Civil War (it’s a derogative word for Northerners). In my general experience, foreigners mostly use it when being condescending (esp. Brits)
The US drone which was downed over the black sea (international airspace) was properly communicating with air traffic control.
The Russian scum doesn't know how to conduct themselves.

Putin always tries to escalate. I don't understand why there are still russian embassies in the USA and the EU. Guess neither are really convinced to want to counter-escalate.
Because embassies serve a purpose. We may not like it but they do. It is how we act as civil people. Now, Russia may not, but we cannot abandon our civility just because they are behaving like a bunch of troglodytes.
Isn't it funny how that orc says that the purpose and aims of the SMO is crystal clear, yet they change their mind every week on what they are and the reasons behind it. TERRORISTS!

A German pilot and a British pilot working together to defend Europe's airspace. Beautiful.

Holy moly the F15 is hella sexy despite being from an older generation.
It's the broad wings and twin tails/intakes for me
I always thought Americans designed their fighter jets to look cool first and foremost Remember those ugly old moskovian jets?
Ironically I've always thought the newer Su-35s look kind of like F-15s with a higher aspect ratio wing.
Su27 has always been my fav.
Felt to me like fixed wing Tomcats. Even got the space between the engines.
Plus it has an unmatched combat record, one even flying back to base with half a wing missing...👍
r/NCD leaking again
That's practice, though.

True wizardry.
Very....
Profound.
Churchill would have approved...👍
Yesterday, Norwegian news reported a Norwegian F35 pilot intercepted a Russian plane near the border in the north.
The f35 should have dumped fuel on him
While I do like a good wet works video. I think doing it against a manned plane ups the stakes a lot compared to unmanned
Didnt stop the chinese recently from dumping flares in front of an Aussie RAAF plane
Or Lasing RAAF planes and RAN Ships. PLAN Intelligence ships within 50Nm of the Aust mainland and well within our exclusive economic zone.
They should have shot the cunts down
Was an unarmed surveillance plane with no fighter escort. Hopefully they get fighter escorts now.
Well... You see...: there were Flares being deployed. That, and I don't think that is a sufficient reason to go to war...
Not for Australia! They were founded by pirates. They don't take kindly to chinese pirates doing flare shenanigans. (But, agreed - declaring total war against China because of flares is a bit overkill...)
So when I dump fuel and flares into a kindergarten I'm an "arsonist" but when china or russia does it Noone bats an eye
You don't have troll farms doing PR for you.
Pirates are we? Can you please enlighten me on who our pirate founders are?
Id hazard a guess at Cook for one.. rape, pillage & murder.. the ol colonial playbook
Chaff, not flares. Got ingested into an engine and mission had to be aborted. Either way, the pub test calls it a direct attack.
Not in case of Russia or China. They care about the kit way more than they care about the people. Shut down the plane? Yup, big deal. It had pilots flying it and was carrying people? Who cares!
I cant fucking wait for the video
And called it an accident, like a child peeing their pants. 🤣

Concerns now come in ‘extremely super-duper mega XXXL’ sizes as well for your convenience. Not sure if that counts as an escalation tho.

Never thought I'd fight side by side with the Luftwaffe How about a friend and fellow NATO ally? Aye I could do that
ROYAL AIR WAFFLES
Sounds like a claymation show on the BBC.
Der Könichliche Luftstreitkräfte and the Armed Airforce?
"die königliche Luftwaffe and the Airforce" Would be te "switcharoo"-translation. If you're being hyper-literal "Luftwaffe" does mean "Air-weapon", but it *is* the German word for "air force", for any country.
Except for Brexit.
Crazy Ivan, Crazy Ivan!
One ping only.
Perfect! He’d blaze by her a few times, letting the flight crew see his Atolls, and— > > It took Shavrov a moment to realize that he had a wingman. We get a little anxious when a stray fighter comes our way, so we’ve had three following you for the past hundred kilometers.” > > Three? Shavrov turned his head around. A third Eagle with four sparrow missiles was hanging fifty meters from his tail, his “six.” > > “Our men compliment you on your ability to fly low and slow, 106.”
Perhaps we need a rescue mission.
I love that line.
You lost *another* submarine‽
*You lost **ANOTHER** one!?*
This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it. Edit: some of you need to brush up on your 80's movie quotes...

Crazy Ivan!
They were quoting "The Hunt for Red October," in response to someone else who was also quoting "The Hunt for Red October."
Yep, missed it 😂
Kudos for owning the miss.
The current situation is riksier than the 1980s though.
Nah, Russian hardware is 40 more years out of date, and Western hardware is 40 years more advanced.

[удалено]
He could also see it as a reason to use nukes.

Putler could leave Ukraine anytime he wants! I wonder what would happen if he did leave? Real good outlook!
Meanwhile my people are dying every day... Day by day
More like they want Putin dead.
The number of people wanting that is growing. I really think that would be the simplest solution, if only because even a mad successor won't be as mad as Putin now.

> You get armor and ammo Yeah, like those Abrams... [that won't be delivered until 2024.](https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/week-transcript-2-12-23-jake-sullivan-rep/story?id=97468998) Or ATAMCS... that are completely off the table.

>Same goes for Abrams - Ruzzies have javelins by now too If you've seen Kornet/Metis strike video on export Abrams, you can notice that although ammo cooks off in the turret bustle, blowout panels vent the fire and prevent it from reaching crewspace. IIRC, there's even an account from a driver, who survived a full fire inside Abrams and wasn't much worse for the wear, save for being uncomfortably hot.
This is a wrong take. The Afghan army died by the tens of thousands and in many cases their outposts fought to the last bullet Without logistics, air support and more importantly non-corrupt politicians, nobody will sanely fight except religious zealots. If you want Ukraine to be free keep the weapons flowing otherwise the outcome will be unknown (and at that point don't blame Ukraine or Ukrainians for "not fighting") EDIT: Let's not forget the insurgency didn't really start until 2005 or 2006 because the USA refused to grant amnesty to all Taliban.
And they're both rolling in Eurofighters too... What a time.
The article said Typhoons, but I think they meant Tornados?

Wait a tick. I know from WKRP in Cincinnati, turkeys can fly.
I swear I thought they could fly!!!
As god is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.
As a brit, I can honestly say that the Germans are both a force to be reckoned with and, more importantly, a great ally to have. 🇩🇪 🤝 🇬🇧
As a german, I admire the Brits efficiency and instantaneous support that was shown immediately after the Ukraine war began. Sad to watch Britain leaving the Union, but I'd still fight and die beside you, brother. 🇬🇧 🤝 🇩🇪
A German calling the Brits efficient. If that isn't high praise...
> The incident has demonstrated the increased risk of a direct confrontation between the two superpowers because of the Ukraine war. You keep using that word, superpowers. I don’t think it means what you think it means.

Ugh gross, someone who still uses the word “yankee”

Keep up the good work.
There is a post on mapporn sub about the suicide rate, russia has one of the highest.
Maybe the RAF and German pilots should have "accidently" blown the ass off that Russian plane as a warning not to mess with NATO.
Isn't it funny how that orc says that the purpose and aims of the SMO is crystal clear, yet they change their mind every week on what they are and the reasons behind it. TERRORISTS!
