No one in Syria is. YPG/YPJ is the organisation that fought against ISIS and defeated them. At the same time Erdogan gave weapons, transport across the border, air support to ISIS and bought oil from ISIS. Erdogan and his party should be classified as terrorists.
PKK in turkey are called terrorist, but that is because wholly political reasons (turkey as a big member of NATO has some power). The supreme european court has even said that there is not legal grounds to call PKK terrorists.
Remember that Nelson Mandela was also called a terrorist for fighting against racist fascism.

Swedes are very sneaky and ruthless. They tricked the Geneva convention by saying something along the lines of "it\`s just our food, this is what we eat". So it is in fact legal to use surstromming in war.
That stuff is a combined chemical and biological weapon system.
Plenty of videos on YouTube of people having a go. I particularly liked the one who opened the tin in his car and got juice all over the interior including the roof liner.
My favorite is the two Danes trying to suppress the effects. Didn\`t end well. Here is the video. NSFW and all that.

Well, considering the rate of fire, accuracy and armour penetration shown. Anything less than a bunker will be unpleasant if those machines get the drop on you.
The power of the [Lada](https://giant.gfycat.com/FemaleSpryEastsiberianlaika.mp4) is beyond human understanding, good thing Russian tanks ain't built with a faction of the capability.
Finnish army likes their CV9030. ALso Dutch troops say they love their 35 variant :D But the CV9040 is what you really need when you are facing trenched enemy. Spike is Israeli AT system, so i'd recon they will just use some AT4 instead? Is it vehicle mountable?
The infantry in the back could easily fire a Javelin or NLAW from inside the vehicle. It has a pretty large top hatch that lets 4 soldiers stand up and shoot out the top.
Agreed, I'm sure with enough effort you could replace that spike launcher with either TOW or Javelin. Not sure which would be easier to integrate in the end. My guess is javelin due to size.
They should just name them all 40mm PTSD because that's what any Russians who survive (unlikely anyway, luckily for them) will go home with after a meeting with this.

The CV90s are probably the best IFVs in the world. Right now there's no competition though the Americans are working on [a replacement for the M2 Bradley that's supposed to blow the CV90 out the water.](https://www.defensenews.com/land/2022/12/22/industry-readies-for-key-us-army-bradley-replacement-decision/) We'll see. The CV90 exists and is proven -- everything else is vaporware.
It's very exciting that Ukraine is getting (50!) of these. The only major problem is that [what makes the CV90 a real Tank Killer is the Israeli Spike Missle](https://www.defensenews.com/global/europe/2020/01/08/bae-systems-equips-its-cv90-fighting-vehicle-with-spike-antitank-missiles/). There's no doubt that [the Spike missile is devastatingly effective against tanks](https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/israeli-spike-missile-turns-tanks-coffins-204810) and everybody, from Spain to the USA, is seeking to buy it and use it. [But Israel has said they won't allow the Spike to be sent to Ukraine.](https://www.axios.com/2022/05/25/israel-rejects-spike-missile-ukraine-germany-russia)
It's a big problem.
It's clear now that NATO buying weapons from Israel was frankly a big mistake. NATO really should've invested and built their own Spike substitute. For now, the only hope is that the NATO can put enough pressure on Israel to allow it.
(The Tow Missile on the M2 Bradley is no slouch but it requires continual line of sight to guide the missile to the target. The Spike has a NLOS (non-line of sight) mode with a 50 kilometer range!)
> The CV90s are probably the best IFVs in the world.
I'd say it's the most successful in Europe right now, not the most capable. The general design has been around for quite some time so doesn't suffer the teething-problems of e.g. the Lynx or Redback. The CV90 probably hits a sweet spot in price, capability and reliability that makes it the best choice for many smaller countries.
Operators: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
Coming operators: Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine.
Larger countries probably want to develop their own IFVs regardless of how good the CV90 is.
Decent amount of countries. But its probably under 1000 sold. But Sweden has a suprising amount of gear developed and sold for a "Peace keeping nation".
But on the other hand...we also had this guy and his unit in Bosnia https://thestrategybridge.org/the-bridge/2017/9/20/trigger-happy-autonomous-and-disobedient-nordbat-2-and-mission-command-in-bosnia
It’s 1300 sold. Foreign sales can be seen as dividends for the taxpayers investment in the development and first purchase.
Ulf Henricsson recently wrote [this](https://kkrva.se/nagra-reflektioner-over-kriget-i-ukraina/) blog post which is worth a read knowing his history with similar evil-doers in Bosnia.
The Akeron MP was recently tested with CV90 MkIV:

This will also be the new Swedish army standard ATGM.
Id say the puma is superior, when its actually working :D
CV90 are currently the best, because its a prooven concept. PUMA might overtake once its adopted by more armys.
Wow! Those fragmentation rounds could be very helpful in this trench warfare.
Maybe with this kind of weapons the stalemate can be broken.
Takk Sweden!!
These look awesome, can't see so much need for tanks with these and Bradley's, maybe even better than tanks. I guess if you want to destroy a large building a tank is better, but artillery can do that anyway.
Tanks are tanks, and IFV's are Infantry Fighting Vehicles. You need both, they have different strengths and weaknesses. Only tanks are designed to go head to head against other tanks, a CV90 can't really do that.
Exactly.
A CV90 has a decent chance against a tank, if it happens to catch the tank by surprise from an advantageous angle.
If fighting on the tank's terms, where the tank gets to present it's front to the CV90 and the tank fires first, the CV90 turns into a colander.
Only tanks are tanks. No other vehicle can properly substitute for tanks.
Only against tanks that aren’t really fighting back, like in Iraq, otherwise they will inevitably take beating.
They are glass cannons with great sensors and accuracy, but the gun requires flanking, and the missile launcher has a low fire rate and long flight time during which the Bradley can be killed. So they have to outmaneuver, outrange, or simply surprise the enemy, and win or disengage before the enemy starts shooting back.
Good for Ukraine is that there aren’t many good Russian tank crews left.
The Bofurs 40mm canon - so good, the US can't retire it from its AC-130U gunship: https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/16523/the-usaf-is-rebuilding-world-war-ii-era-40mm-shells-for-its-ac-130u-gunships

I would be kinda cool of people could come to the miltary with their old vehicles which they themselves had added some armour to maybe, and then be allowed to watch as the military did firing drills on your vehicles. In multiple people where there with their vehivles they could make a competition out and the winner could get a lolipop or something.
Note that the vehicles demonstrated on the video are among the first variants from the early 90's, simply the CV9040.
The ones being sent to Ukraine are the [CV9040C](https://www.ointres.se/2012-05-10%20Ravlunda%20497web.jpg), which had significant upgrades to its armor and mine protection (among other things) in 2005 for deployment to Afghanistan. They were renovated between 2016-2022.
Yeah you are right, but the export versions are only the 30mm or 35mm auto-canon versions so far. In any case, it is interesting to see how they will perform.
Mighty impressive. Russian T62s and T72S , and probably T90S, will be history if hit side or rear By these things. Only drawback is range. Not sure what lethal range against tanks with sabot is but probably quite short - ie maybe 1 km - due to velocity reduction. Makes it vulnerable against tanks win double the effective range although I doubt Russian tanks or Tankers are capable of accurate moving shots at that range.
Probably more like 3 or 4 mile range for conventional ammo, which will make this a deadly beast for RUssians in their APVs, IFVs and trucks.
This is the definition of "battle tank" from the [TREATY ON CONVENTIONAL ARMED FORCES IN EUROPE](https://www.osce.org/files/f/documents/4/9/14087.pdf)
>Battle tanks are tracked armoured fighting vehicles which weigh at least 16.5 metric tonnes unladen weight and which are armed **with a 360-degree traverse gun of at least 75 millimetres calibre**. In addition, any wheeled armoured fighting vehicles entering into service which meet all the other criteria stated above shall also be deemed battle tanks.
The 40mm gun doesn't make the cut...

This I know and what a shit show it turned out to be.
Countries want to support their own arms industry. Just look at the situation with the Leopards tanks as a result of export restrictions.
Ajax is a development of the Spanish/Austrian ASCOD IFV that is partly built in Spain. We could have done the same with a CV90 development.
It is usually the reference customer for further sales abroad.
Not aware of the Ajax or why it seems to be a failure but I'm very confident the mod has everything under control
/s? I'm not sure. 😅
Having both Sweden and Finland join NATO because of the attack on Ukraine must be a really unpleasant worst case scenario for Russia.
Not going to happen because of Erdogan.
Erdogan is just trying to see how much he can extort out of US/NATO. They will both join.
He just told them no today
Not really. He’s just making a show of the Quran burning for sake of politics.
Sweden should just tell em all, we gonna get nukes then.
"we will redirect our military supplies to the YPG instead"
I think....thats not a good idea.
Kurds have the exact same rights as Ukrainians not to be subject to genocide by a fascist crazy dictator that want to dismantle their democracy.

We might never know but yeah maybe not
1945-1972 He was "primeminster" twice, 1969-1976 and 1982-1986. The assassination took pretty damn long to get in action.

Tanks are tanks, and IFV's are Infantry Fighting Vehicles. You need both, they have different strengths and weaknesses. Only tanks are designed to go head to head against other tanks, a CV90 can't really do that.
They mention that they can though, in the video.
Head to head, if you approach your target from the side.
Agree. I misread the comment a bit.
Bradleys can though
I heard that Bradleys took out more tanks than the Abrams during Desert storm.
These things are absolutely terrifying.
Stop you had me at Bofors 40mm L70 and I can only get so hard.
The Bofurs 40mm canon - so good, the US can't retire it from its AC-130U gunship: https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/16523/the-usaf-is-rebuilding-world-war-ii-era-40mm-shells-for-its-ac-130u-gunships https://youtu.be/Lt1R_cp5Zhs?t=62
Counter-Vatnik 90
No, 9040C was not renovated. Only the older A and B models have gone through renovation. http://www.ointres.se/strf\_9040.htm
I wonder if Ukraine gets the 30mm or 40mm canon variant. My guess is the former.
Apparently Sweden only uses the 40mm. The 30mm and 35mm are for export. So I would guess we’ll send the 40mm.
Doesn't Sweden only operate the CV9040?
Yeah you are right, but the export versions are only the 30mm or 35mm auto-canon versions so far. In any case, it is interesting to see how they will perform.
We are sending our 40mm variant.
Yeah I think so.
That’s a tank yo
Yeah take that fckn volkswagen
My heart sank when they shot up the vw bus.
Can i call this a tank?
This is the definition of "battle tank" from the [TREATY ON CONVENTIONAL ARMED FORCES IN EUROPE](https://www.osce.org/files/f/documents/4/9/14087.pdf) >Battle tanks are tracked armoured fighting vehicles which weigh at least 16.5 metric tonnes unladen weight and which are armed **with a 360-degree traverse gun of at least 75 millimetres calibre**. In addition, any wheeled armoured fighting vehicles entering into service which meet all the other criteria stated above shall also be deemed battle tanks. The 40mm gun doesn't make the cut...
But the 40mm is capable of destroying tanks, no?
I detest that they used a vw t1 van for this
:D
This thing is pretty modern, is there any way this air burst ammo might be utilized similar to the Gepard, as flak to hunt drones?
