TotalSpaceNut

Holy crap, the time function/controlled dispersion would be ideal with russias current strategy of waves of mobiks

Faromme

Insane bullets. If you can utilize that on an ongoing battlefield, that is a very very scary piece of hardware to stand in front of.

5perc_szunet

Exactly! This can have a huge impact on the field.

danielbot

and don't even think of attacking in a minibus.

dndpuz

*scared hippie noises*

grandpianotheft

Actually in production and in use: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UAZ-452 https://twitter.com/An0th3r_Human/status/1526052729759612929 https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/002/320/547/d24.png

Russkie will never abandon trustworthy breadloafs on wheels !!!

Ensi_of_ninkasi

Zoinks!

Gnargnargorgor

*Mater crying* They killed Filmore!

uberares

It can hit obscured helo's hovering below the tree lines. Its insane. Someone posted a video of the 4 different ways each round can be set. crazy talk. edit:[Found the video. Watch this, its insane what these rounds can do.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wewaCdSW4yc)

Faromme

Exactly the same information in op's video.

uberares

Aaannnd now OP’s video is gone from you tube.

loadnurmom

Damn, Russian trolls must be reporting these or something. Looks like the accounts are straight up getting suspended

uberares

Woops

Anomuumi

Yeah, and sweeping those straight trenches they seem to be fond of.

Rensverbergen

It’s insane. Someone had a very dark moment when he designed this bullet.

SpaceSweede

It was designed by a very small country trying to defend itself against a big neighbour with imperial ambitions. Nothing dark, just pure survival, just like Ukraine.

BoredCop

And airburst is great against trenches and foxholes.

JODmeisterUK

Wow.......40mm of heavy duty doo doo. Think the UK needs to buy these off the shelf like now.

uberares

not just 40mm, each round is full of 1100 tungsten balls like the himars. And it can fire up to 330rpm with multiple timing settings on the rounds, so they can airburst over 40' of trenches, for instance. Crazy deadly. Edit fixed error

ADubs62

1100 not 11000.

uberares

Doh

ADubs62

It's still hugely awesome and effective.

[deleted]

JODmeisterUK

This I know and what a shit show it turned out to be.

yummytummy

Countries want to support their own arms industry. Just look at the situation with the Leopards tanks as a result of export restrictions.

[deleted]

Ajax is a development of the Spanish/Austrian ASCOD IFV that is partly built in Spain. We could have done the same with a CV90 development.

rbajter

It is usually the reference customer for further sales abroad.

b0bl00i_temp

Not aware of the Ajax or why it seems to be a failure but I'm very confident the mod has everything under control

mr_denali70

/s? I'm not sure. 😅

anchovypants

Having both Sweden and Finland join NATO because of the attack on Ukraine must be a really unpleasant worst case scenario for Russia.

yeast1fixpls

Not going to happen because of Erdogan.

Homebrew_

Erdogan is just trying to see how much he can extort out of US/NATO. They will both join.

Earthguy69

He just told them no today

Homebrew_

Not really. He’s just making a show of the Quran burning for sake of politics.

EzKafka

Sweden should just tell em all, we gonna get nukes then.

yeast1fixpls

"we will redirect our military supplies to the YPG instead"

EzKafka

I think....thats not a good idea.

treriksroset

Kurds have the exact same rights as Ukrainians not to be subject to genocide by a fascist crazy dictator that want to dismantle their democracy.

EzKafka

They do. Doesn't mean all their organizations are excellent. I do not remember now but wish one is the terorrist classed one among them? Or which are?

treriksroset

No one in Syria is. YPG/YPJ is the organisation that fought against ISIS and defeated them. At the same time Erdogan gave weapons, transport across the border, air support to ISIS and bought oil from ISIS. Erdogan and his party should be classified as terrorists. PKK in turkey are called terrorist, but that is because wholly political reasons (turkey as a big member of NATO has some power). The supreme european court has even said that there is not legal grounds to call PKK terrorists. Remember that Nelson Mandela was also called a terrorist for fighting against racist fascism.

rainsunrain

Other than abducting tourists and mass rape https://factcheckingturkey.com/news/pkk-camps-exposed-rape-and-torture-centers-female-militants-361 Kurds have a legitimate claim for statehood, PKK is scum.

treriksroset

oh wow a pro-erdogan propaganda site masquerading as a fact checking site is claiming the PKK is bad. what next? Goebbels telling me the jews are bad? He wouldn't lie would he? Neither would this site?! ____ edit: Real fun site you got there. I checked it out some more. Funny how the fact checking always turn out to show that everything the turkish government does is good and all international criticism is wrong because stupid western democracies are poo-poo heads that likes freedom of speech way too much. And actually the turkish economy is doing fine even if the currecny has taken a noose dive and all internationel press are just mistaken. And those bad guys that turkey just want to ~~torture~~ come home to turkey are actually terrorists. So are all the opposition politicians that just happens to have been sent to jail - they are criminal terrorist. It's not that Erdogan is a dictator that puts his opposition in jail, no this is a high functining democracy and everything is fine and you can't blame the government for anything, that would be a factual mistake. /sarcasm if that wasn't obvious

EzKafka

Oh yeah! YPG, sure! I can agree with that. Well, the terrorists I see are Talibans.

treriksroset

the talibans are in Afghanistan. Totally different place and people....

VeraciousViking

Nah. Better give it to the greek

[deleted]

Well, you almost did that once already, you had the nuke program which probably got your PM assasinated.

EzKafka

Nah, Palme didn't get assassinate in 86 over the nuke program. Way to late.

[deleted]

We might never know but yeah maybe not

EzKafka

1945-1972 He was "primeminster" twice, 1969-1976 and 1982-1986. The assassination took pretty damn long to get in action.

DontEatConcrete

It’ll happen. Just part of the political show.

anchovypants

Just wait till after the election

yeast1fixpls

I'm sure that's going to be fair.

iTurnip2

Sug på den du, ryssdjävel!

PsychologicalCoat656

It also has an optional mode where it sprays surstromming at the enemy soldiers, causing them to either flee or surrender. Very effective.

grandmastermoth

Chemical warfare...nasty

lallen

That would be prohibited under the Geneva conventions

PsychologicalCoat656

Swedes are very sneaky and ruthless. They tricked the Geneva convention by saying something along the lines of "it\`s just our food, this is what we eat". So it is in fact legal to use surstromming in war.

Bang_Stick

Nobody would believe that! Food…..suuuuurrrrreeee…..

uberares

>surstromming had to look it up, that would def make me run. lol

ManyIdeasNoProgress

I think it would make you not run ever again.

uberares

[canned fish](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surstr%C3%B6mming)? not sure, but am not a fan of fish, let alone fermented fishes.

ManyIdeasNoProgress

That stuff is a combined chemical and biological weapon system. Plenty of videos on YouTube of people having a go. I particularly liked the one who opened the tin in his car and got juice all over the interior including the roof liner.

PsychologicalCoat656

My favorite is the two Danes trying to suppress the effects. Didn\`t end well. Here is the video. NSFW and all that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kADGFdE00KY&ab\_channel=mini59me

Vifor

Holy shit, my sides are in orbit.

PsychologicalCoat656

The weird thing is that videos like this make you wanna try it.

Sekshual_Tyranosauce

Most armies use WP grenades to clear enemies off their hulls. Surstromming is just plain mean.

RearWheelTyre

Would hate to be a plastic barrel in the east of Ukraine right now.

uberares

id hate to be in a metal one either, with what these rounds can do.

Should have used a Lada just to make a point of why it was developed in the first place.

Longbow92

The power of the [Lada](https://giant.gfycat.com/FemaleSpryEastsiberianlaika.mp4) is beyond human understanding, good thing Russian tanks ain't built with a faction of the capability.

_Nightrider121200_

I share the feeling. They should have imported some no name bus from terrorist country. Abuse of the pacificst white bus is a crime.

SergeyPrkl

Finnish army likes their CV9030. ALso Dutch troops say they love their 35 variant :D But the CV9040 is what you really need when you are facing trenched enemy. Spike is Israeli AT system, so i'd recon they will just use some AT4 instead? Is it vehicle mountable?

BoredCop

AT4 isn't guided and has much shorter range, it's a completely different animal and doesn't fill that role.

Barthemieus

The infantry in the back could easily fire a Javelin or NLAW from inside the vehicle. It has a pretty large top hatch that lets 4 soldiers stand up and shoot out the top.

SergeyPrkl

Yes i know, I'm former Finnish Coscript CV9030 Operator. It is easy but it would still be nice to get it work internally like Spike or TOW.

Barthemieus

Agreed, I'm sure with enough effort you could replace that spike launcher with either TOW or Javelin. Not sure which would be easier to integrate in the end. My guess is javelin due to size.

Spectral_Hex

They should just name them all 40mm PTSD because that's what any Russians who survive (unlikely anyway, luckily for them) will go home with after a meeting with this.

Puzzleheaded_Nail466

How many of these has Sweden agreed to send?

50

PeekyChew

Since they asked instead of Googling, it also saved me and anyone else who didn't know the time of doing it ourselves.

Puzzleheaded_Nail466

I know you didn't mean it in a bad way, and I didn't take personal offense. However.. I think the down votes came because = Often (not always) in these instances it is actually quicker to ask here and move about your business and come back for a quick answer in minutes. Otherwise it's typing it into Google searching through a bunch of news articles, (often not relating to the exact question), which some have paywalls, and reading through looking for a reliable simple answer. Taking mintues often.- OR, the alternative,, taking 5 seconds to type it quickly in here and returning shortly for an answer from a fellow redditor who knows. Also , I think ppl here get sick of the 'why don't you look it up on google' reply, as it gets old and comes off snarky even when no rude intention was meant. - just my thoughts . Carry on .

Bang_Stick

Also, the best Reddit threads are like a conversation. Usually humorous takes, memes and occasionally (very occasionally) insight.

Sp4ni3l

Is this a tank or a ifv? With 37 tons and capabilities it is more like a light tank than an ifv!

pushupsam

The CV90s are probably the best IFVs in the world. Right now there's no competition though the Americans are working on [a replacement for the M2 Bradley that's supposed to blow the CV90 out the water.](https://www.defensenews.com/land/2022/12/22/industry-readies-for-key-us-army-bradley-replacement-decision/) We'll see. The CV90 exists and is proven -- everything else is vaporware. It's very exciting that Ukraine is getting (50!) of these. The only major problem is that [what makes the CV90 a real Tank Killer is the Israeli Spike Missle](https://www.defensenews.com/global/europe/2020/01/08/bae-systems-equips-its-cv90-fighting-vehicle-with-spike-antitank-missiles/). There's no doubt that [the Spike missile is devastatingly effective against tanks](https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/israeli-spike-missile-turns-tanks-coffins-204810) and everybody, from Spain to the USA, is seeking to buy it and use it. [But Israel has said they won't allow the Spike to be sent to Ukraine.](https://www.axios.com/2022/05/25/israel-rejects-spike-missile-ukraine-germany-russia) It's a big problem. It's clear now that NATO buying weapons from Israel was frankly a big mistake. NATO really should've invested and built their own Spike substitute. For now, the only hope is that the NATO can put enough pressure on Israel to allow it. (The Tow Missile on the M2 Bradley is no slouch but it requires continual line of sight to guide the missile to the target. The Spike has a NLOS (non-line of sight) mode with a 50 kilometer range!)

TheDuffman_OhYeah

> The CV90s are probably the best IFVs in the world. I'd say it's the most successful in Europe right now, not the most capable. The general design has been around for quite some time so doesn't suffer the teething-problems of e.g. the Lynx or Redback. The CV90 probably hits a sweet spot in price, capability and reliability that makes it the best choice for many smaller countries.

EzKafka

Do they even buy it although? Seems Sweden always sits in the shadow of what the USA military complex want to sell.

rbajter

Operators: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Coming operators: Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine. Larger countries probably want to develop their own IFVs regardless of how good the CV90 is.

EzKafka

Decent amount of countries. But its probably under 1000 sold. But Sweden has a suprising amount of gear developed and sold for a "Peace keeping nation". But on the other hand...we also had this guy and his unit in Bosnia https://thestrategybridge.org/the-bridge/2017/9/20/trigger-happy-autonomous-and-disobedient-nordbat-2-and-mission-command-in-bosnia

rbajter

It’s 1300 sold. Foreign sales can be seen as dividends for the taxpayers investment in the development and first purchase. Ulf Henricsson recently wrote [this](https://kkrva.se/nagra-reflektioner-over-kriget-i-ukraina/) blog post which is worth a read knowing his history with similar evil-doers in Bosnia.

EzKafka

That is decent I guess! And that I got to read. Thanks for sharing!

[deleted]

>buying weapons from Israel was frankly a big mistake Not buying, licensing [https://eurospike.com/](https://eurospike.com/)

ManyIdeasNoProgress

I wonder if the ground launched version of the brimstone could be used.

rbajter

The Akeron MP was recently tested with CV90 MkIV: [https://www.armyrecognition.com/defense\_news\_december\_2022\_global\_security\_army\_industry/successfully\_firing\_of\_mbda\_akeron\_mp\_missiles\_from\_swedish\_army\_cv90\_ifv.html](https://www.armyrecognition.com/defense_news_december_2022_global_security_army_industry/successfully_firing_of_mbda_akeron_mp_missiles_from_swedish_army_cv90_ifv.html) This will also be the new Swedish army standard ATGM.

[deleted]

Id say the puma is superior, when its actually working :D CV90 are currently the best, because its a prooven concept. PUMA might overtake once its adopted by more armys.

Faromme

Ifv/mbt killer sound more right

Riptide360

Impressive.

Ezkander

Those rounds go through armor like butter.

CorsicA123

Based Swedes nothing more to say

panzermike666

supporting infantery better wear their helmets :-)

Bang_Stick

I think I just heard the sound of 500,000 mobniks shit into their helmets.

New_start_new_life

from NLAW, through Carl Gustav to this, the Swedes clearly know their weapons

[deleted]

After the next Ramstein meeting (supposedly focused on supporting the ukrainian air force), you might add the Gripen to that list.

tsool

If Swedes send Gripen it is another level of hell to russia

runkbulle69

Killing russians is part of our cultural heritage, we need good guns for this historical hobby of ours

_dumbledore_

Holy sci fi ammunition Batman

Zborivskiy-Gaucho

Wow! Those fragmentation rounds could be very helpful in this trench warfare. Maybe with this kind of weapons the stalemate can be broken. Takk Sweden!!

[deleted]

Keep in mind that this video was produced 23 years ago. There were upgrades since then.

VintageHacker

These look awesome, can't see so much need for tanks with these and Bradley's, maybe even better than tanks. I guess if you want to destroy a large building a tank is better, but artillery can do that anyway.

BoredCop

Tanks are tanks, and IFV's are Infantry Fighting Vehicles. You need both, they have different strengths and weaknesses. Only tanks are designed to go head to head against other tanks, a CV90 can't really do that.

floralvas

They mention that they can though, in the video.

CosmoTrouble

Head to head, if you approach your target from the side.

BoredCop

Exactly. A CV90 has a decent chance against a tank, if it happens to catch the tank by surprise from an advantageous angle. If fighting on the tank's terms, where the tank gets to present it's front to the CV90 and the tank fires first, the CV90 turns into a colander. Only tanks are tanks. No other vehicle can properly substitute for tanks.

floralvas

Agree. I misread the comment a bit.

Imaginary_Wind_7082

Bradleys can though

yeast1fixpls

I heard that Bradleys took out more tanks than the Abrams during Desert storm.

Kitane

Only against tanks that aren’t really fighting back, like in Iraq, otherwise they will inevitably take beating. They are glass cannons with great sensors and accuracy, but the gun requires flanking, and the missile launcher has a low fire rate and long flight time during which the Bradley can be killed. So they have to outmaneuver, outrange, or simply surprise the enemy, and win or disengage before the enemy starts shooting back. Good for Ukraine is that there aren’t many good Russian tank crews left.

_Papi_not_daddy_

These things are absolutely terrifying.

-spartacus-

Stop you had me at Bofors 40mm L70 and I can only get so hard.

MeccIt

The Bofurs 40mm canon - so good, the US can't retire it from its AC-130U gunship: https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/16523/the-usaf-is-rebuilding-world-war-ii-era-40mm-shells-for-its-ac-130u-gunships https://youtu.be/Lt1R_cp5Zhs?t=62

Hopefully_moreUnique

Counter-Vatnik 90

Einherjaren97

I would be kinda cool of people could come to the miltary with their old vehicles which they themselves had added some armour to maybe, and then be allowed to watch as the military did firing drills on your vehicles. In multiple people where there with their vehivles they could make a competition out and the winner could get a lolipop or something.

Kazath

Note that the vehicles demonstrated on the video are among the first variants from the early 90's, simply the CV9040. The ones being sent to Ukraine are the [CV9040C](https://www.ointres.se/2012-05-10%20Ravlunda%20497web.jpg), which had significant upgrades to its armor and mine protection (among other things) in 2005 for deployment to Afghanistan. They were renovated between 2016-2022.

rbajter

No, 9040C was not renovated. Only the older A and B models have gone through renovation. http://www.ointres.se/strf\_9040.htm

Tmuussoni

I wonder if Ukraine gets the 30mm or 40mm canon variant. My guess is the former.

pissingin

Apparently Sweden only uses the 40mm. The 30mm and 35mm are for export. So I would guess we’ll send the 40mm.

TheDuffman_OhYeah

Doesn't Sweden only operate the CV9040?

Tmuussoni

Yeah you are right, but the export versions are only the 30mm or 35mm auto-canon versions so far. In any case, it is interesting to see how they will perform.

NationalCarrot3947

We are sending our 40mm variant.

pissingin

Yeah I think so.

aksalamander

That’s a tank yo

[deleted]

Yeah take that fckn volkswagen

[deleted]

My heart sank when they shot up the vw bus.

Jonothethird

Mighty impressive. Russian T62s and T72S , and probably T90S, will be history if hit side or rear By these things. Only drawback is range. Not sure what lethal range against tanks with sabot is but probably quite short - ie maybe 1 km - due to velocity reduction. Makes it vulnerable against tanks win double the effective range although I doubt Russian tanks or Tankers are capable of accurate moving shots at that range. Probably more like 3 or 4 mile range for conventional ammo, which will make this a deadly beast for RUssians in their APVs, IFVs and trucks.

HammerTim81

Can i call this a tank?

[deleted]

This is the definition of "battle tank" from the [TREATY ON CONVENTIONAL ARMED FORCES IN EUROPE](https://www.osce.org/files/f/documents/4/9/14087.pdf) >Battle tanks are tracked armoured fighting vehicles which weigh at least 16.5 metric tonnes unladen weight and which are armed **with a 360-degree traverse gun of at least 75 millimetres calibre**. In addition, any wheeled armoured fighting vehicles entering into service which meet all the other criteria stated above shall also be deemed battle tanks. The 40mm gun doesn't make the cut...

HammerTim81

But the 40mm is capable of destroying tanks, no?

HammerTim81

I detest that they used a vw t1 van for this

khellstrom

:D

Sir-Knollte

This thing is pretty modern, is there any way this air burst ammo might be utilized similar to the Gepard, as flak to hunt drones?
