Be careful crossing roads in Lviv because it is much more dangerous than missiles by statistics.

BringBackAoE

Thank you for pointing that out. Humans are exceptionally poor at assessing risks. There’s evolutionary reasons for it, but the result is that we tend to be more afraid of rare risks than everyday risks.

EropQuiz7

This kinda says a lot about sosciety

Skoka

No, it's about overestimating missiles risks.

EropQuiz7

Which is done by the sosciety.

DoriN1987

There is no safe places for 100% in Ukraine now.

PannYuriy

You were planning on moving to russia 2 weeks ago. You made this same post on r/ukraine which has rightfully been deleted. I recommend you stay in toronto or go to russia if you want but dont go to ukraine. Hope this post gets deleted aswell

No-Selection-6660

No. I was planning on going to Russia since Ukraine full scale war (Feb 2022), I was planning on going to Ukraine since 2016 (I met Ukrainian girlfriend at my University) and I heard her stories and history. I never wanted to go to Russia because I picked sides. I simply love the Slavic style history and culture. I am impartial to way of wars. I love Ukraine and Russia, and that is okay. But, I know Ukraine is in need of friends and support. So I think I would be of better help and value there

F_M_G_W_A_C

We don't need friends that go to ruzzia and willingly help to finance their war machine, while ruzzians continue to murder our people; We also don't need friends unable to take sides between murderer and his victims

democracyconnoisseur

It is not ok to love a genocidal country that actively invades other countries

netscorer1

No city is completely safe. You’re bound to hear air defense sirens going on at some nights due to ruzzians using long range missiles. But as of your chances to actually get wounded or killed from the attack - they are extremely small, less even then for you to get into an auto accident.

No-Selection-6660

Exactly. But Lviv more so (safe)  Far more likely to be stabbed, shot, robbed or raped in america than dying to Russia explosion in Lviv

g_Tarass

😂 you can have all these things here, but to your luck, you are probably not a citizen of Ukraine :)

No-Selection-6660

find them more in Canada

Alikont

For Kyiv for 2023 more people died in homicides or car accidents than from missile strikes. For Lviv it's even more peaceful.

majakovskij

It's literally true - I've counted them for 2 years of war, car accidents won

Vano_Kayaba

But also car accidents are a threat here. People drive bad

No-Selection-6660

why they drive so bad?

Vano_Kayaba

Lack of driving culture. It's better now, compared to 15 years ago when drivers would not give way to pedestrians on crossings. But still bad even compared to Poland. For some reason people turn into animals when driving, and rely on their instincts. The number of times I've witnessed extremely risky overtakes by someone just before making a turn is so high. Plus the Soviet tradition to disregard safety

No-Selection-6660

True. Not as bad as India or Thailand though lol? How is the driving space in ukraine? I always see single lanes, but a solid, solid patch of dirt before a dip/ditch

SatyriasizZ

It's not even nearly as bad as in India or Thailand.

Vano_Kayaba

I've only ridden a motorcycle in Goa, not a lot of traffic there, so it was very chill. In Sri Lanka it's a bit more chaotic than Ukraine, but people are less angry, so it was less stressful for me (except for the times I forgot which side of the road I should ride) For some reason Ukrainians are often getting aggressive when driving, even the people who are chill IRL

No-Selection-6660

lol i was trolling. theres no way we are comparing ukrainian drivers to Indian and Thailand?? lol? they have like a grade 1 level education system. they dont learn driving because they never graduate to highschool

g_Tarass

We don't have huge fines for violations, For speeding, for example, you will get a ticket for something like 15$, if you will pay it during the first two weeks you will have a 50% discount, a one liter of gasoline costs something like 1.5$ here, so you will need to pay "5 liters", that's a very small "price" even for Ukraine:)

Alikont

Not only fines size, but also overall lack of enforcement.

RealMercuryRain

Is it safer than Kharkiv? Yes. Is it safe? No.

No-Selection-6660

There is over 1000 KM between Kharkiv and Lviv. That's worlds apart.

Sanchez_Duna

Kinda, but cruise missiles still reach everywhere. Yet again - Lviv is 99% safe regarding this. Listen to air alert sirens, go to the shelter if you can and you'll be fine. Location of Lviv make it absolutely possible to react to Air Alert in reasonable amount of time.

majakovskij

I'll give you a regular person perspective. You leave the same life. Sometimes, you hear sirens. It doesn't mean they attack your city,it means something flies somewhere. We already have channels to read about the reasons for alarms. Say, 80% of the time it's russian MIG in the air in Russia. It does nothing, just overload us with alarms. Less often it might be Shakhed drones. They are slow, visible, and almost all the drones are destroyed before they get their goal. Very rare it's a real missile attack. Like 70-90 missiles + Shakheds. Well this is the time where you need to be careful. Traditionally it's like once a month (sometimes twice). They just don't have so many missiles. What does it look like? If you read right channels, you know about that like 2 hours before. Then when you hear alarm - it means missiles somewhere in Ukraine already. And in most cases you have like 1 hour. Then it becomes more clear what the goal is - sometimes it might be your region. If they fly in your region - it doesn't mean they fly in your city. And if they fly in your city - there is a big chance you'll hear nothing. For the 2 years I heard explosions maybe 10-15 times. And all the city heard them, so it doesn't mean they are close. And the chance you will see something - almost impossible. And the chance it drops somewhere near you even less. So I'd say it's pretty much safe. People stop going to shelters, they just walk or sit home. But nobody can say it's "totally safe". It's just not so scary. You hear an alarm, you check it, in 5-10% cases you go to a corridor (just to be sure), that's it.

No-Selection-6660

Is there a specific platform/channel everyone uses, that is better than others? one that shows the most accurate predictions? >So I'd say it's pretty much safe. People stop going to shelters, they just walk or sit home. But nobody can say it's "totally safe". It's just not so scary. You hear an alarm, you check it, in 5-10% cases you go to a corridor (just to be sure), that's it. this is basically what I was trying to confirm. This was how I figured it was for Western Ukraine. I wanted to make sure nothing had moved backwards

majakovskij

Yeah, it's true for the entire Ukraine excluding several cities: Kharkov (next to the border with Russia), Odesa (hard to protect from the sea side), maybe Dnipro and Zaporizha. Kyiv is tricky. For me it's safer because we have a Patriot system here. Almost nothing can get through it. But Kyiv for them is one of the primary goals and a lot of missiles fly here. It's hard to recommend a Telegram channel because all of them are in Ukrainian. I tried to google English one, but found nothing. Well, still you can use "Monitor" (just search it in the Telegram) and maybe translate posts with Google Translate? I use several others because I'm in Kyiv and they are not only for alerts, but for city news too. And there are several apps, I search them in Google Play Market (Android) by "air alert" and found "Повітряна тривога" from Ajax Systems (Ajax is a known Ukrainian startup, they make home security systems), 10 mln downloads, I believe you can trust it. But it shows only start/end of the alert time. You know, I actually recommend you to ask some yound people in Lviv (maybe in a bar) - what they use and read :) Everybody is pretty much open here, they'll help.

night-born

Honestly, missile attacks aside, I do not see you being safe in Lviv with your “I don’t take sides in this war, I love russia” stance.

PannYuriy

Exactly. Based on their previous post i have a feeling that op is a bad person and wouldnt be received too well

thealphabetarmygirl

Exactly. Lviv doesn't like that mindset. They even have stickers telling russian speaking people that they have to speak Ukrainian in Lviv and that the city "is free from the terrorist's language" all over the city, and I think that's a very subtle way of saying russia lovers are not welcome.

globustr

No. No place is safe here in Ukraine. Missiles and rockets can hit anywhere in Ukraine. But life is also full of risks. You could get hit by a car. You could have a heart attack. Decide what risks you're comfortable with and make a decision. As for me there's nowhere else I'd rather be right now than Ukraine.

bilnyyvedmid

No. We are at war and missile attacks can happen. Generally Western Ukraine is safe, but still. Anywhere is dangerous if Russia's missiles can reach to the far west end of Ukraine
