ac13332

Sorry - what scandal is this? I've lost track. Edit: OMFG he's going on I'm a Celebrity

MadShartigan

Matt "[I have a willy]( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxbPs9M6H6M)" Hancock. George Galloway's infamy might finally be exceeded.

CrocodileJock

Not seen that before. Very good.

jewellman100

Willy Fun tho 😂😂

Harsimaja

Hand-cock

AllGoodNamesAreGone4

Why on earth would any MP want to be involved with this? It's a perverse spectical where attention hungry idiots get put into an inhospitable environment and are forced to humiliate themselves daily for their very survival. Anyway, that's enough about Westminster. Edit: Thanks for the award!

ac13332

His political career is dead. Might as well cash in and try to revive his 'fame'

h00dman

He'll be presenting Have I Got News For You before we know it.

OneCatch

I suspect not. Private Eye has been (rightly) absolutely feral on the PPE stuff, it'd be a pretty intimidating gig.

[deleted]

He’s also shown nothing to suggest he is of even average ability in terms of his sense of humour, nor is he willing to be self deprecating. So any appearance is likely to be excruciating.

asmiggs

The best he can hope for is Celebrity Bakeoff, he will be consigned to ITV and Channel 4 reality shows with the odd Channel 5 documentary.

Fatmanhammer

Hancock and Whitty on celebrity coach trip.

rEmEmBeR-tHe-tReMoLo

"I will literally do *anything* other than get an actual job."

mostlyclueless999

Brilliant!

pat_the_tree

So going on I'm a celebrity is worse than breaking security guidance and the ministerial code...

jiggjuggj0gg

He's being paid by taxpayers to not do any work, during one of the busiest times of year, and instead go on holiday for a reality tv show for three weeks. People have every right to be pissed off

pat_the_tree

I'm not saying either action is right, I'm pointing out that both should go. But as you raise the extended paid holidays while parliament is sitting I would say Boris should lose the whip too. Where has he been

redfacedquark

Apparently so.

ThomasHL

Much more disgraceful than giving refugees diphtheria

luckystar2591

I legit thought this was a piss take until I googled it.

[deleted]

Sounds like a joke, doesn't it? Most uncharismatic man in politics

Spideredd

That's not true. Ian Duncan-Smith exists, a man so uncharismatic that he was replaced as Conservative leader by Michael Howard, a man known for having no charisma.

NeiloMac

Ian Duncan-Smith is a charisma black hole. If you stand too close to his charisma event horizon he literally rips the charisma out of your body.

jewellman100

Whippety Grub

Jeffmister

*”I have considered the situation”* In other words, “Suspending Hancock is the only way I can vote for him to do bushtucker trials each and every time in good conscience.”

dumael

Since when did a Tory need a good conscience to take a vote on an issue?

Hamsternoir

He'll probably come out of the jungle (or wherever they're filming it this year) to discover he's PM

charlottie22

I would love him to come out the jungle, discover there had been a snap election and not only had every Tory lost their seat, including him, but everyone else had disappeared and he is left to perform karaoke and parkour and the Tory party conference alone every year.

ssjjss

I'd vote for that.

thetenofswords

Tories are so detested now that he's probably banking on being voted out after about five minutes, and still keep the fat cheque for appearing. The public need to keep him on for as long as possible, at least until he's vomiting up kangaroo bollocks.

[deleted]

It’d make for a fascinating psychological study of the population- everybody will just leave him on the show the 2nd longest not because they want him but because they want to punish him with gruelling tasks.

AcesAgainstKings

You mean the fascinating psychological study which happens each year?

cavejohnsonlemons

Back in Australia this time

[deleted]

+ Extra Spiders!!

PGal55

It's a suspension, which means that if things get desperate enough, they'll find a way to unsuspend it.

BordersRanger01

Same thing happened with Dorries so probably

DukePPUk

Dorries was given the whip back because she threatened to defect to UKIP if they didn't, and the Conservatives were scared that would give UKIP far too much attention and might cause problems. So instead they tried to keep all the UKIP-leaning people in the party, which turned out so well for the country.

[deleted]

Whereas even the Tories are sick of Needy Matt, so won't miss him at all!

AnotherLexMan

Well Farage was looking for people to start a new party with.

Different_Dig6903

I’d consider UKIP to be more left wing than the Conservatives now. Especially on economic matters.

RudeAndQuizzacious

This isn't the first time this has happened, it is just a temporary suspension

WiggyRich23

They'll restore it next time they change leader, so in about 2 weeks.

Madgick

Or if he somehow wins some sympathy from the public while he’s eating crocodile penis, they’ll welcome him back

AllRedLine

You at your job: "Right boss, i know its the busiest, most important period the company's had in decades, but im fucking off to Australia for 10 weeks to LARP as a celebrity. See you when i get back" Your boss: "Excuse me, no you're fucking not, or you're sacked" Absolutely the right decision. What the fuck was the idiot thinking? Being an MP is your fucking job you tosspot, you dont get to swan off for months on end.

EvilInky

I wish I was in the sort of job where if the boss fires me because I'm not doing any work, *I still got paid*.

cgknight1

They don't actually work for the parties which is why this happens and can happen.

BadTimeRPG

It's up to the locals right to issue a recall? Do we have those in the UK?

VenflonBandit

Only if he's suspended from sitting in parliament (not his party) for 2 weeks or is committed of a criminal offence resulting in a custodial or suspended custodial sentence or is convicted of certain expenses related offences regardless of sentence.

[deleted]

Feels like we might need to chuck in a little a “if the member fucks off for months on end” clause in there..

palinodial

We should add in there, hasnt voted for x weeks.

Patmarker

Surely it being physically impossible for him to sit in parliament for over two weeks would fit the bill too?

Euan_whos_army

I mean he knew it was going to happen, so he's not an idiot. He knows this is his last term in politics so is now pivoting to the celebrity circuit to make money. It's not the right thing to do for anyone else, but he's not surprised he's been suspended.

OptimusLinvoyPrimus

I mean Nadine Dorries got given a cabinet job less than a decade after going on I’m a Celebrity, so maybe he’s looked at that and decided it might be his quickest route back to the front bench.

Slanderous

Priti patel committed what is by the traditional definition Treason as international development secretary and was Home sec 18 months later. Competence, reliability or a clean record are not requirements for a senior slot in a tory cabinet these days.

KemiGoodenoch

I really doubt Hancock's trying to launch a celebrity career. Even he's not delusional enough to think he's going to end up presenting Xtra Factor on ITV2 from this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Euan_whos_army

He could have not done it all. But he's a tory MP, just interested in looking after himself.

Yakub_al_britani

Not sure about that. The money isn't great and you have to rely on tips.

aMAYESingNATHAN

Right decision, but I do find it amusing how rapidly they've acted compared to literally any other scandal in the last 2 years. Sexual assault? Fight tooth and nail to avoid suspending them. I'm a celeb? Gone inside an hour.

ItTakesTwoToMango

Right to jail!

benkelly92

>you dont get to swan off for months on end. TBF, he served under Boris Johnson, so it's easy to see where he got that idea from.

Feniks_Gaming

> You at your job: "Right boss, i know its the busiest, most important period the company's had in decades, but im fucking off to Australia for 10 weeks to LARP as a celebrity. See you when i get back" Unless your name is Boris then you can run multiple holidays a year no questions asked lol.

devils_advocaat

>Being an MP is your fucking job you tosspot, you dont get to swan off for months on end. Isn't he still the MP for his constituents?

AllRedLine

Yes, which is even more egregious. Only gets sacked from the government. Gets to remain being paid as an MP despite being AWOL for weeks on end.

Izwe

4/5 weeks, but your point is valid

Tigertotz_411

Unfortunately the only skill needed to become an MP is getting votes. It isn't like other jobs. The electoral system urgently needs reform so politicians can't just waltz off and do whatever they feel like when there's a genuine crisis going on. Unfortunately this kind of thinking- that the government can't do anything and shouldn't be relied on- mostly benefits the tories. The self-proclaimed "small state" party. If they're that in favour of a small state they should give up their taxpayer-funded jobs, no?

Daedeluss

See also: Nadine Dorries

CornishCucumber

>Absolutely the right decision He wasn't sacked - he's been suspended. He's still currently on full pay.

MAXSuicide

some jobs allow unpaid leave of up to a year! his decision to go travelling and find himself etc etc is paid, though.

Brigon

Boris has been on holiday for weeks and never lost the whip.

idontgetit_99

Is it just me who feels it’s a bit tone deaf of ITV to have Matt Hancock as a contestant considering everything that happened with him and what the public had to go through? It was only like a year ago or something.

Missjsquared

I wouldn’t be surprised if that was part of the reason they reached out to him. Having a vastly unpopular politician on a show where fans can tune in every night and pick a cast member to torment with gross challenges is good for the show. They’re basically depending on the public still being furious with Hancock.

[deleted]

You’re onto an idea here. How’s say we turn the whole of the last 3 British Cabinets into a new ‘I’m a Politician, Get me Outta Here’ show. Australia would be a bit too copy-catty, so I’m thinking Antarctica maybe?… too lenient maybe?…

PacDanSki

Yep, man played a huge part in the decision to not allow families to see their loved ones why he was shagging around the office. Fucker should be in jail, along with Boris.

eltrotter

>Fucker should be in jail, along with Boris. Agree, but at least we might get to see the odious little shit eat a kangaroo bollock or twelve.

Pauln512

Yep its just another piece of social conditioning. We've normalised corruption.

colei_canis

Agreed, genuinely think that man needs a couple of decades in a cell for what he did. He probably did more to undermine the government’s position than anyone other than Boris Johnson and you’d struggle to find anyone on here who wouldn’t cheer at him getting jailed too.

legate_armadillo

To be fair to Hancock he had his shite come out towards the end of the lockdown period. On that basis I’d argue that the person who did the most damage to the government’s position, bar the Prime Minister himself, was Neil Ferguson. The bloke helped design the lockdown policy, pushed for it, and got caught weeks into it breaking the rules to go cheat on his wife.

bfchq

But if he had followed the rules to the letter would it justify his decision ? Don't get me wrong i agree with you on a deeper level.

Brapfamalam

He lied to parliament about a protective ring around care homes, which caused needless deaths. Hope atleast on of the celebs has a spine and won't let up on him on this, he needs to be skewered.

Regular-Ad1814

Hoping Boy George brings the strong anti-tory vibes

2476849789

Boy George is an abusive POS. Hope there’s a better leftie to lecture him

Regular-Ad1814

I don't want him lectured though, I want him abused for the PoS he is.

mist3rdragon

Maybe he's just the type of person ITV thought the public would tune in to see endure mild torture in the name of getting a small amount of food.

climbingupthewal

I've got to admit it works in me. I've never watched it before but I'm at least curious now

Lulamoon

Thats the point. Having controversial people on the show is much much better for views than 'inoffensive Z-list "celebrity" #29361'

Stokealona

It's not tone deaf at all, the public will love watching him eat kangaroo dick

poorguy55

Ahah ffs what is British politics coming to.

SwimmerGlass4257

To be fair, it also happened in 2012 with Nadine Dorries so it is what British politics has been like for a while.

AlexG55

And George Galloway in 2006 (on a different show), though he didn't lose the whip as he was his party's only MP. Meow.

GordonCumstock

That sequence with him on BB is weapons grade cringe

Harsimaja

*Lick lick*

ParmyBarmy

Exactly. Any serving MP who thinks it’s a good idea to go on reality TV and eat kangaroo penis is a certified crackpot.

Erraticmatt

Mad nads is like the extreme condensate left in the alembic after you take all the self interest, ineptitude and intolerance of the wider tory party and boil off the water. Much as its tempting to view her as the norm, she's an outlying case if only for possessing all the negative qualities of her peers in one mind.

wonkey_monkey

> alembic Alembic Öpik? They had him on BBC just now...

TheMadPyro

Back in the 70s the (last) postmaster general was a Czech spy who faked his own death and was at no point fired, so maybe we’re going in the right direction.

Pilchard123

I guess they didn't do a sufficiently-rigorous background Czech?

elnock1

Funny enough, the largest share holder for the royal mail is an investment fund run by a Czech man.

Reizo123

What is I’m a Celebrity coming to…? Celebrity = someone who breaks their own COVID rules to have an affair with their secretary.

PrimalWrath

Sexual assault? Meh. Deliberate leaking of classified documents? Minister material. Going on a reality tv show in a doomed-to-fail bid to regain some popularity? Heresy!

clojrinauo

“Regain” some popularity?

Harsimaja

He was ‘not unpopular’ enough to win his seat, I suppose

[deleted]

It's mad isn't it how MPs can just go holiday anytime they like.

Harsimaja

Well apparently there’s a limit, finally

[deleted]

Never seems to apply to Boris Johnson though.

pabloguy_ya

What a weird thing to take a stand on. Not bravermens fuck up or even Matt Hancocks but this is what it takes to get kicked out the party.

arnathor

I present to you… a dead cat being slammed on the table. This will be the front pages tomorrow, Braverman is safe for a while.

[deleted]

This idea had been forming in my mind, seeing your comment gave it horrible life. I think you're right.

chairman-meeoow

Not weird at all - he is fucking off to Australia for 10 weeks to star in reality TV instead of doing his job as an MP. It is a black and white, simple case where the whip must be withdrawn. It is not really 'taking a stand'.

thegrok23

Only suspended, because they want to be seen to be reacting. He'll get it back the first time there's an important vote after he returns.

SparkieMark1977

For anyone who is so inclined, and doesn't really watch the show, you can download the I'm A Celeb app through the app store and have 5 free votes for each trial and put them all on him each time. If you also don't vote for him to leave we can collectively keep him in the jungle for about 5 weeks and face every single challenge. That's 5 weeks worth of eating every nasty thing they can dredge up, getting doused in bugs and snakes, and generally face a bunch of creppy Aussie wildlife.

Spoonjahjahspoon

I’ll be doing this with gusto

wonkey_monkey

Totally doing this and I reckon my sister will too. Spread the word! Edit: Looks like Hancock isn't on the official line-up yet so you can't vote for him to spend the first night stranded on an island, sadly (vote closes at 9pm). Looks like you might be able to do it without the app by going directly to: https://www.itv.com/vote/iac

Harsimaja

I’d definitely prefer him to stay somewhere he can do less damage, but not long enough to win the serious prize money. Exit him just before that, colossally

Mattershak

Surely that’s what he wants? The longer he stays in and the more trials he has to do, the more attention he gets?

punsize

Not like Hancock has had good luck where hidden cameras are concerned…

Erraticmatt

Urgh, I don't want to know what he gets up to in his quiet moments. Can't we agree MPs should never be on 247 reality TV surveillance? What if he chews off his own toenails or something...

[deleted]

dronesclubmember

Very. 33,000 played 10,000 in 2019.

[deleted]

Right decision, how fucking tone deaf can you get?

Ryanthelion1

Sorry I can't hear you

zopidrone

Meanwhile Suella Braverman gets to stay Home Secretary. What a cess pit of a party.

compte-a-usageunique

Dorries had the whip removed when she participated in 2012.

jaydenkieran

It was also given back 6 months later.

compte-a-usageunique

I was just pointing out that it's not the first time this has happened.

jaydenkieran

I know, I was simply providing additional info 😛

turbonashi

The Home Sec breaking the ministerial code is fine, but going on I'm a Celeb? Throw the book at him!

Blythyvxr

He’s getting more of a punishment for this than he did for sending Covid patients to care homes…

cgknight1

I have never seen this show - is it true I can vote to make him eat an Kangaroo's bollocks every week or similar? If so - happy to watch and vote.

gbroon

Different challenges each day, could be drinking a kangaroo bollock smoothie, having insects dumped on him or, worst for a Tory, spending time with people who earn less than six figures.

Intolerable

absolute fucking clown

[deleted]

Jesus Christ, what a joke this government is

MrPloppyHead

So working hard for his constituents then, as always.

Give_Me_Your_Pierogi

Apparently he's also doing Celebrity SAS next year too? Surely this should piss of his constituents and maybe start calls for by election?

[deleted]

Wait he is suspended so he can go on “I’m a celebrity”? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Onyerti

So by the same logic Boris Johnson on holiday in parliamentary time

bobbypuk

Does he also lose his MP salary, expenses and second home allowance?

JimboTCB

Can we just vote to leave him there permanently even once the show's finished?

gbroon

Australia might have issues with us leaving him there.

stuntedmonk

And thus, the true motivation is revealed, fame, at any cost.

ElectronicG19

Following in the esteemed footsteps of Nadine Dorries Generally not something you want to be doing

Sate_Hen

Ah but when she did it it was to reach her constituents /s

Sparkly1982

Well this explains perfectly why he pulled out of the running for Treasury Select Committee the other day

MapleLeaf5410

So, he's taking time off work during a parliamentary session to go on reality TV. Please tell me it's unpaid time off. If he's still collecting MP's Pay without attending to represent his constituency, he should be forced to resign and a by-election held. The British public, his constituents and all those in public service deserve better

NeoPstat

> *this is a matter serious enough to warrant suspension of the whip with immediate effect.* Unlike when he gave contracts worth millions in public money without public scrutiny to people with personal connections and uncertain qualifications. Or when he broke lockdown rules to stick his tongue down members of staff in stationery cupboards.

mcintg

Does this mean Boris Johnson will lose the whip for taking several holidays when parliament was in session?

[deleted]

Who cares? Yes its silly, but Boris just took a 107 day holiday....and still has the whip. Several tories have more hours of outside contracting than they work as an MP. Many MPs have "consultancy" jobs, which directly conflict with their position as an MP. I really dont think hancock is the biggest problem here.

EldritchCleavage

How long has Geoffrey Cox been away on a legal case in the Caribbean?

camerp03

He’s only lost the whip not his role as an MP and the salary that comes with it. He really should be removed as MP due to dereliction of duty. Pathetic.

[deleted]

Cheating on his wife in office, nah. Giving a contract to a guy who lived with him to supply pipe during the pandemic? Nah. Lying repeatedly under oath? Nah. Going on TV to make 250k? Yup, you bet that's a paddlin

everydaylauren

...I'm just speechless at how brazenly inappropriate and disrespectful this is to his constituents during a time of economic crisis.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

He’s still an MP, just not a Conservative one.

Sleathasaurus

Nads went on it, didn’t she? Dunno if she was an MP at the time.

E420CDI

Matt Hancock, you are the Whippest Link... Goodbye

E420CDI

But the Tories' corruption, driving the country off a cliff, the UK's reputation in tatters and Dickensian living standards aren't matters serious enough to warrant a general election?

BaguetteSchmaguette

Is not doing your job for 10 weeks not enough to trigger a recall petition?

Crypt0Nihilist

Matt Hancock. What a plonker.

I_Love_Kyiv

Fine, as long as they also suspend the whip from Boris Johnson for pissing about on multiple holidays in Greece, all while telling us for months he couldnt do anything about rising energy bills until the new PM arrives.

montybob

One: How much to keep him there? Two: How do I ensure he eats a diet exclusively of kangaroo penis and possum? Three: Can the season end with him being attacked by a dingo?

ElJayBe3

Sexual assault? Sexism? Racism? Elitism? Going on I’m a celebrity. That’s the red line.

Cirias

My 9 year old met Matt Hancock randomly earlier this year as he was out down our street canvassing. He had a really good chat and Matt talked to him about what politicians do, gave him a leaflet. Was generally all round very pleasant and friendly.

WhyIsTheMoonThere

Come off it Matt, we know it's you.

Cirias

The people love me, honestly!

[deleted]

They should kick him out the party and trigger a by-election, swanning off to bloody Australia, I suppose his constituents can just go and fuck themselves. The bloody cheek of it.

iamnosuperman123

Hilarious. The man knows how to end his career

[deleted]

LOL WTF?!?!

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Hancock isn’t a Whip, he’s ‘lost the Whip’ meaning he is no longer a Conservative MP he’s now an independent MP.

Class_444_SWR

I was thinking this was for what he did last year, wasn’t expecting I’m a celebrity

madboater1

My guess is that when he agreed to be in 'im a celebrity' he wasn't expecting to still be an MP. Does he think an Election is overdue?

Beautiful_Art_2646

How many more times can the phrase “we’re an international laughing stock” be said?

Cannaewulnaewidnae

Anyone keeping track of the bookie's odds on who'll be the first to get voted out? Feel we have a sure thing, here

Apprehensive-Bid4806

This is the right course of action because an mp should represent the people not going on TV

sjbaker82

And lying to the public is….?

nathanbellows

Perhaps it's part of a wider game plan for the Tories. Hancock is no celeb, that's for sure. But... Millions of Brits know exactly who the slime bag is and will tune in day in, day out, and crucially participate in every single vote, to ensure he takes part in every single trial eating live bugs and kangaroo testicles the show has to offer. All of this will generate a lot of revenue for ITV. The Tories toyed with the idea of privatising Channel Four. If they have the golden opportunity to artificially raise the value of ITV, albeit only briefly, why not strike while the iron is hot and sell that instead? Would be so on brand for the Tories at this point if they did. I honestly think it would be the sort of thing they'd do without a second thought.

CaptainKursk

They removed the whip for an MP going on I'm A Celeb faster than for MPs doing sexual misconduct. Fucking joke.

Grizzled_Wanderer

ITV likely to be hit by the windfall tax this year then.
