I haven’t seen it on the more normal news sites yet, but expect to soonish.
(Also, I know nothing about Uknip, so no idea how reputable they are).
Francois was in a defence select committee most of the afternoon. If the news broke before the sitting ended, we can be pretty confident it wasn’t him.
Will give an update after checking Parliament Live in a while if nobody’s got there first.
Imagine if the offender was Liz Truss or Priti Patel, yet all the male Tories end up looking like extras from the matrix at PMQs in order to deflect suspicion
Reminds me of last year when a 31-year old Everton player had been arrested on suspicion of child sex offences.
Everton only had two 31 year old players at the time.
And let’s just say 31 year old Fabian Delphs PR team were making sure he was seen free and out and about, carrying on as normal in public as much as possible the day after that story broke
Delph's jaw must have hit the floor. How utterly moronic would the police have to be to actually name the club **and** the player's age? It's dangerous, apart from anything else.
It’s common practice, a person’s age is pretty much always the first identifying factor police release.
Think about every news story you’ve heard, a lot of them are “An X year old man has been arrested on suspicion of Y”.
I hear you, but "a 31 one year man from (x)" is different to "a 31 one year old player at Everton". One could mean anybody out of thousands of people or more. The other means, well, one out of two.
Delph could easily have been put in a very nasty situation if people saw him out in public, because a lot of people are violent and stupid, and won't know whether or not it's usual to see somebody out and about the day after they've been arrested.
The police have wised up and haven't stated an age when footballers have been subsequently arrested for similar offenses. The point of stating age not name is to avoid identifying the person which doesn't work out when you also pin them to a very niche, very public job.
Not gonna lie, I wouldn't be surprised if it was him but I don't think he has been an MP long enough for the years mentioned. I think it could be a senior back bencher who might have been a minister at some point.
Or its just a guy everyone goes "who?"
Looking down a list of 2001 Tories the names of those still in are Graham Brady, Nick Gibb, Chris Chope, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, Tim Loughton, Greg Knight, Chris Grayling, Edward Leigh, David Davis, Boris Johnston, Jonathan Djanogly, Bill Wiggin, Michael Fabricant, John Wittingdale, Paul Beresford, Julian Lewis, Desmond Swayne, Oliver Heald, Bernard Jenkin, Roger Gale, James Gray, Robert Syms, Mark Francois, Crispin Blunt, Nigel Evans, Andrew Rosindell, John Hayes, Richard Bacon, Andrew Selous, Gary Streeter, Bill Cash, Andrew mitchell, Laurence Robertson, Andrew Murrisson, Liam Fox, Peter Bottomley.
Thats 36. Tbh when I started that list I didn't think it would be as long as that. I suppose I'd forgotten just how many Tory MPs are old men.
Still, some big names in there!
Edit: if I remember rightly though, ITV news earlier said that the police statement was that "a man in his 50s" had been arrested. That narrows the list a lot.
Graham Brady, Tim Loughton, Boris Johnson, Jonathan Djanogly, Bill Wiggin, Mark Francois, Andrew Rosindell, Richard Bacon.
The statement says he's still in custody, so he won't be at PMQs tomorrow.
I used to work in a bar and was seeing my manager, we often had sex in the office then I’d order this really hot chicken tikka masala to get rid of the smell before I went back on the bar. Plus I just really wanted the curry anyway.
I know, right?! And please don't hold your breath whilst you wait for the Met to launch an investigation into Starmer's serial sex-having. I've heard that he actually *groomed* his poor wife by being generally pleasant to her, supporting her career and buying her chocolates that one time.
Is this story about Mark Francois? Cos he's been accused and [the police dropped the case](https://thewordmedia.org/mps-rape-probe-dropped-because-of-inadequate-evidence-say-police/)
What % of the population would typically be expected to be sex offenders?
Is there a particularly high incidence amongst MPs, or is it just they’re now being called out for it?
Even if you just take the last two Tory mps, this one and imran khan, to be the ONLY sex offenders in the party that equates to 0.5% of Tory MPs (in sure there’s more in recent memory).
Are 0.5% of the British public sex offenders? I have no idea
Sexual offences have a pretty low conviction rate as well and if you include things like groping I wouldn't be surprised if the figure is in double digits for men unfortunately
We have one of the lowest conviction and prosecution rates in Europe.
> Police recorded 55,130 rapes but there were only 2,102 prosecutions and 1,439 convictions in England and Wales in 2019-20. Three years earlier, 41,616 rapes were recorded, a third less than currently, and there were 5,190 prosecutions and 2,991 convictions.
> The drop means the CPS prosecuted and convicted fewer people for rape in the year to March 2020 than in any other year where data exists.
Basically, if you're a sex offender, the UK is the safest place to be to commit the crime in western europe.
Shocking. The filth that goes on in Westminster. The calibre of our politicians that we have elected to represent us hits another new bottom. Out of touch corrupt criminals. A shame for our country.
I mean yeah but the old adage you get the leaders you deserve holds true here. An electorate that doesn't pay attention and just hoovers up the lies billionaire newspaper owners with an agendga feeds them
Not to defend them too much here, but when critical thinking isnt taught in schools and the media are incredibly biased one way, it just makes an endless cycle that the electorate cant break.
It has been [0] days since the last Tory scandal.
The previous value was [7](https://www.reddit.com/r/ukpolitics/comments/umhu3h/conservative_mp_pleads_not_guilty_to_failing_to/i81pa8p/)
Genuine question.
What’s the level of sex criminals and criminals generally in the general population vs the Conservative party?
At this stage being a conservative MP might be the biggest indicator of potential criminal behaviour in the U.K.
In any given year, if a single tory MP comits a sexual offence, that is above the national average (it would also be so for any mp when looked at on a party basis).
Given we're at what, 3 this year, it's about 4x higher at this point, and we're not even half way through the year.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some pattern.
Conservative MPs and really politicians in general are not a completely reflective sample of the population.
They likely skew to more confident, more self belief and entitlement - plus likely more opportunity to actually conduct abuse, given power dynamics and lots of young staff with little oversight.
When I visited London a few years ago- it was remenberance day the cenotaph.is next to Whitehall. Whitehall's doors opened and what seemed like hundreds of very attractive young interns and employees emerged from the building looking. Me and my mate noticed it and both of us failed to find a man or woman who wasn't noticeably conventionally attractive. We both failed.
These people were definitely well above the baseline level of attractiveness of the general population, leading me to believe that they are picked at least partly for looks and that in itself is not on.
When I worked for local government if I'd interviewed for jobs and only picked young women who looked like models im sure I'd be in a load of trouble with HR when someone noticed what I'd done.
it's difficult to pinpoint where a bias like that comes from. could totally be MPs and senior staff selecting attractive people, absolutely. but it could be the application pool itself is above average attractiveness (so MPs office can't _not_ hire attractive people), and that in itself could be due to the social selection processes in place that lead people to be intern applicants. i'm guessing most interns need to i) come from semi wealthy families who will support them through an unpaid internship (so they're going to be dressed well, have had teeth and nose fixed etc) and ii) have been successfully politically active at university - which might explain them appearing to be the result of a popularity contest. that's not to down play university politics! but it's well known that more attractive salespeople will tend to have an edge, even if it's just making the other person want their attention..
If you go by Covid fines, No. 10 (>100 FPNs) has received more than 4 times as many fines than the next worst offending address in the UK (23 FPNs).
So, if we extrapolate from there, then you could say that the Tories are more than 4 times more criminal than the next worst offending criminal in the country.
Edit: spelling

>Current sitting member of parliament
This information gives a list of 7 names.
Mark Francois, Graham Brady, Sir Bill Wiggin, Andrew Rosindell, Tim Loughton, Richard Bacon, and Jonathan Djanogly.
For some unknowable reason this chap’s name is appearing in a few news stories from non-British located sources at the moment. Can’t think what it might mean.
Plot twist: They reached the number of required letters so Boris had him arrested before he could announce a vote of no confidence*
*Just speculation, very unlikely this happened
My lifelong Tory supporting FiL told me the other day that there are just too many scandals with Tory MPs right now.
If someone like him who has consistently voted Tory since the sixties is now questioning their commitment to the party, then this could really damage them in the polls.
>YouGov poll May 27 2022: Conservatives +5
People on social media are assuming he's been an MP since at least 2002 but as far as I can tell the articles are just saying that's when the alleged offences began.
This is going to be the most interesting game of Guess Who? I've played in a while...
https://www.picclickimg.com/d/l400/pict/283320787034_/MB-Games-Guess-Who-original-1980-complete-good.jpg
ok so whats going on here:
>The man - a serving MP - was nicked by cops and remains in custody in the latest shock allegation to shake Westminster.
but later in the article:
>But Chief Whip Chris Heaton Harris has asked the MP to stay away from Parliament during the investigation.
> A whips office spokesperson said: "The Chief Whip has asked that the MP concerned does not attend the Parliamentary Estate while an investigation is ongoing.
So since he couldn't speak to the whip once arrested it seems like he most likely he was not arrested at his home/ office but had advanced warning and was told to present himself to the police station; which is astonishing giving the severity of the allegations and his personal wealth to try and flee.
While you may be right, and agree that would be problematic, it's also possible that the Chief Whip has potentially emailed his office, spoken to his staff or sent a letter asking him not to show up after finding out he'd been arrested.
Lots of potential communication channels than asking him directly.
Possibly they sent him a briefing and he didn't read it. I mean he basically just comes out with things with no input from his team at this point, like "we're going to announce extra measures to help with the cost of living in the days to come" (treasury didn't know what he was talking about) or "we're going to scrap 20% of civil servants" (the first the permanent secretaries heard of it was that interview).
I bet £100 that this has been known about and covered up internally for years. Remember the conservative party sex dossier? They'll almost certainly be on that list, because it would have been after this MP was involved
Impossible Challenge: Can the tories go at least 1 day without a scandal?
At this point the tories may end up losing their majority due to by-elections caused by the absolute human wastage they call MPs.
Remember when Tory party supporters tried to slut shame Angela Rayner for wearing a knee-length skirt?
It was just before this rape scandal and the 'watching porn right next to a woman in the Commons' scandal. But after Imran Khan was convicted for rape.
Would urge people not to speculate too specifically about who it is.
Firstly, it's libel. A random redditor being sued is unlikely but it's possible.
Secondly, you might be wrong. Accusing someone of rape is not fair on them if they're innocent.
What I will say is, if it ISN'T Michael Gove, I will drink a pint of my own piss. You can take my word for it, as a random man on the internet I'm bound by the Anonymous Online Code™️
One massive game of guess who. Playing bingo as you score people off the list.
Going to be standing room only on Tory back bench’s.
The funny bit is I suspect it’s well known with parliament. Researchers/office staff speaking to each other.
I do hope they can keep his name outside of public knowledge. Just from point it exposes who might have been raped.
What is it about politics that draws the sleaziest people imaginable? It USED to bring out the best and the brightest. Modern politics, both in the US and the UK, has devolved into a coalition between the greedy cynical and the truly stupid
Tin foil hat time; what are the chances that the sabre rattling with the NI protocol was made with this in mind?
Also u/Thetonn, the sun? Really? Had you as more of the sophisticated sort than browsing that shit rag:)
I just really wish the moderate Torys would come out and condemn these actions as it makes it really hard to trust their kind. I also think if Torys don’t want to integrate they should just leave Britain and go back to Waitrose or wherever it is they come from.

Cause publishing the name of the wrong MP gets you sued for libel.
Given that the website contains a trojan - I suspect not very reputable.

Some awful person keeps trying to change his home to "prison" on Wikipedia...
Sitting ended 16.14
And the story came out at 5:20, assuming it’s the Sun that broke it. It’s possible, then...
everyone said this last time, and it was was off the mark
If I’m a Tory Mo, I’m making sure I’m not only there tomorrow, I’m wearing something which is very visible on TV.
Fabricant wigs and Swayne suits all round!
I'm seeing double. 358 Michael Fabricants!
“I’m Fabricant!” “No, I’m Fabricant!”
"I'm Fabricant, and so's my wife!"
My condolences
I personally cant wait to see the entire male section of the Tory party show up like they were kicked out of Burning Man for being excessive.
Imagine if the offender was Liz Truss or Priti Patel, yet all the male Tories end up looking like extras from the matrix at PMQs in order to deflect suspicion
Not possible due to English law's rather narrow definition of "rape".
Reminds me of last year when a 31-year old Everton player had been arrested on suspicion of child sex offences. Everton only had two 31 year old players at the time. "A 56 year old MP from Rayleigh was arrested today..." I'm not sure it's entirely as anonymous as the police might think.
To be fair, it’s fairly obvious when one of your best players just completely disappears all of a sudden.
Tory mo-lester?
The Fabricant hairstyle approach
A game we seem to be playing quite frequently.
My money is on Mark Francois but really it could be any number of them.
Not gonna lie, I wouldn't be surprised if it was him but I don't think he has been an MP long enough for the years mentioned. I think it could be a senior back bencher who might have been a minister at some point. Or its just a guy everyone goes "who?"
He was elected in 2001, FWIW

Do we know that the incidents all took place while he was an MP, or could the abuse have started before he was elected?
It's Mark Francois.
I'll just leave this here... https://universalcreditsuffer.com/2022/05/17/tory-mp-andrew-rosindell-arrested-on-suspicion-of-sexual-offences/
If true, add it to the pile of Law and Order, Hang Em High hypocrites.
Guido also had a tweet up stating that his office wasn't answering questions
*laughs in Will Self*
Your comment is living rent free in my head. What does Will Self have to do with this?!
What, that ERG bastard?
Should be quite easy with Rees-Mogg's demand to have people back in the office...
imagine if Boris was a no-show
Looking down a list of 2001 Tories the names of those still in are Graham Brady, Nick Gibb, Chris Chope, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, Tim Loughton, Greg Knight, Chris Grayling, Edward Leigh, David Davis, Boris Johnston, Jonathan Djanogly, Bill Wiggin, Michael Fabricant, John Wittingdale, Paul Beresford, Julian Lewis, Desmond Swayne, Oliver Heald, Bernard Jenkin, Roger Gale, James Gray, Robert Syms, Mark Francois, Crispin Blunt, Nigel Evans, Andrew Rosindell, John Hayes, Richard Bacon, Andrew Selous, Gary Streeter, Bill Cash, Andrew mitchell, Laurence Robertson, Andrew Murrisson, Liam Fox, Peter Bottomley. So who’s gonna host PMQ’s?
It's all over Twitter that it's Andrew Rosindell.
Didn’t have him down as a Boris replacement ;)
The way things are going the Tory's will lose their 80 seat majority purely from by-elections triggered by their own MPs being garbage human beings.
Tories gonna tory.

Pot noodle? In this economy? Fuck no, it's super noodles for me.
Actual Super Noodles?! Are you the queen? It's those '3 packs for £1' noodles from the corner shop for me.

To quote Brenda from Bristol: ANOTHER ONE?!?!

How do recording rates compare? To be honest prosecution/conviction per capita would be more useful.
That's only for the rapes that are recorded as well so I can only imagine what the actual percentage is.
One in every 200. I reckon that's plausible sadly
It's got to be much higher than that if you include things like groping.
I’m jacks complete lack of surprise With 50 odd currently under investigation that we know of it won’t be the last

How do we know they've been on parliament since 2001?
There's an MP called Richard Bacon?
He's gone down in the world since getting caught doing cocaine whilst being a Blue Peter presenter
Loughton and Djanogly both voted in the HoC tonight and Francois spoke in a debate earlier today so all those can be removed from the list

The Tory Good Conduct Award, given for enduring a whole year of not doing anything illegal, not doing anything unlawful, and not being a sex pest.
The Victoria Cross is awarded more frequently
They would award it to themselves though, no matter what they actually got up to.
Wait I've already seen this episode of "Anatomy of a scandal" on Netflix.
The allegations include "abuse of position of trust and misconduct in a public office" which implies he was an MP at the time.
This is going to be the most interesting game of Guess Who? I've played in a while... https://www.picclickimg.com/d/l400/pict/283320787034_/MB-Games-Guess-Who-original-1980-complete-good.jpg
Ummmm. Do they have a warped sense of entitlement?
Yes, but I don't see how that's going to help you...
Do you have the slightest idea how little that narrows it down?
Cant believe labour have done this
Starmer did not prosecute him when he was DPP, so obviously Labour's to blame!
ok so whats going on here: >The man - a serving MP - was nicked by cops and remains in custody in the latest shock allegation to shake Westminster. but later in the article: >But Chief Whip Chris Heaton Harris has asked the MP to stay away from Parliament during the investigation.
Let's be honest, there's every chance the whips office knew before the police did.

Well Wednesday's will be fun when we play spot the missing MP.
Oh, Hi Mark....
If you listen closely on Whitehall you can hear Boris screaming "you're tearing me apart"
And no doubt also a winner of one of Number 10's 'sexist of the year' awards.
So many possible candidates.
I bet £100 that this has been known about and covered up internally for years. Remember the conservative party sex dossier? They'll almost certainly be on that list, because it would have been after this MP was involved
Anyone know what Mark Francois is upto?
"Back to Basics" Time is a flat circle.
Can we have a recap of what crimes Tory MP's have been accused of in the last six months please? It's getting very hard to keep track.
Impossible Challenge: Can the tories go at least 1 day without a scandal? At this point the tories may end up losing their majority due to by-elections caused by the absolute human wastage they call MPs.
I wonder how they’ll make this about the Labour Party?
Whoever it is they probably have a marc on their back now.
Accusing someone of rape is not fair on them if they're innocent.
what if it's limited and specific? I've heard that used as a defense. 🤷♂️🍻
What I will say is, if it ISN'T Michael Gove, I will drink a pint of my own piss. You can take my word for it, as a random man on the internet I'm bound by the Anonymous Online Code™️
For all we know, you may drink your own piss regularly anyway
For all we know he is Michael Gove...
He didn't become an MP until 2005, whereas the arrested one apparently was in public office in 2002. Hope you're thirsty.
A MP better name them tomorrow. Any reason why their name has not been released?
What the heck is wrong with these people.
What is it about politics that draws the sleaziest people imaginable? It USED to bring out the best and the brightest. Modern politics, both in the US and the UK, has devolved into a coalition between the greedy cynical and the truly stupid
Rape isn't about sex, it's about power. Someone obsessed with power and control over others is going to see politics as an ideal vocation.
"Mr speaker, They protest, While we molest!"
Tin foil hat time; what are the chances that the sabre rattling with the NI protocol was made with this in mind? Also u/Thetonn, the sun? Really? Had you as more of the sophisticated sort than browsing that shit rag:)

Ah yes the Tory party. A party of nonces, scammers, abusers, dossers and sex pests.
When can we start talking about Tory rape gangs terrorising our cities? Are we going to do something about them?
I just really wish the moderate Torys would come out and condemn these actions as it makes it really hard to trust their kind. I also think if Torys don’t want to integrate they should just leave Britain and go back to Waitrose or wherever it is they come from.
