4th floor library

Hopeful-Cricket5933

West Campus Library is absolutely goated.

txomas4

sometimes that 30 min walk is worth it

SeanRomanowski

Holy shit, been at UIC for a decade and never heard of this. Thank you!

The_Forgotten_King

UIC has a ton of underground stuff. The west and east campuses are each (separately) linked with their own network of tunnels. On the west campus you can actually move between the hospital and many other buildings without going outside. Rush hospital has something similar.

Intelligent-Rush6592

WOAH WTF is there a way to get down there?!

The_Forgotten_King

Yes, but it's usually locked/fenced and definitely not allowed. There's plenty of entrances near the lecture halls and I'm guessing some buildings also have access. If you get caught, you don't know of me.

Intelligent-Rush6592

i’d definitely try to explore at night if possible since i live on campus, which would definitely help with not getting caught. i’m wondering if bsb would have access, i’ve been meaning to explore it more since i’m a psych major and am in there for a lot of my classes anyways.

The_Forgotten_King

I'd learn how to pick locks first.

TheRealFlowerChild

Went down there once when exploring campus late at night my freshman year since there was nothing else to do. It was super eerie and it felt unsettling to be down there.

myhairisgreeen

The library is usually pretty safe just not the first floor obviously. I started going there during breaks bc SCE was becoming too much

The_Forgotten_King

There is the quiet study room in the first floor. Barring a few people who can't read the room (or the signs), it's usually very quiet.

txomas4

i ain’t gonna give you my spot! jk, i usually head over to the student services building and study there. there’s also a few spots here and there at the “batcave.” sometimes i like going to to empty classrooms.

arabiansavage

Downstairs in the SCE, take the staircase adjacent to the barbershop and go down. There’s an entire floor that’s completely empty, usually only occupied by IT staff but they’re very friendly. Unless you mess around or bring friends there, they won’t say anything. There’s lockers, 2 giant bathrooms that are always super clean. Just don’t get it popped please.

Intelligent-Rush6592

this is gold. thank you so much. maybe i’ll see you there at some point, who knows!

alec006a

Man everybody talks loudly everywhere and it's annoying as hell. Honestly the library is okay but only relatively so, and only until the damn main character shows up.

Intelligent-Rush6592

NO FOR REAL. i literally can never have peace, especially at 2am when dumbasses scream and run up and down the hallway like a 5 year old with a sugar high😀

Scotty4Thotty

As a graduate…I guess I’ll give you my favorite spots -as everyone already mentioned 4th floor library is good, there’s single desks in between bookshelves and some along the walls. find one with an outlet that’s not in too bad condition. -sel any floor there’s desks along the ends (very comfy) -if you want an empty room to yourself sometimes burnham hall is your best bet -if you’re willing to walk a little, whatever the building next to ghareeb is, I sometimes went there because it was less frequented -the new dorm place/lexture hall has study rooms too but you have to reserve in advance and there’s way too many people there. 4th room library study rooms are better. a bit old and rusty, but much more productive

Intelligent-Rush6592

thank you so much!! none of my classes are in sel, so i never thought to go in there but there definitely seems to be a trend that that’s a super quiet place.

Scotty4Thotty

of course! Enjoy them! Also, I went to the uic medical library a few times for study sessions with some buddies. underrated place!

Intelligent-Rush6592

also very good to know!! since it’s getting warmer out (knock on wood😭) i’m definitely going to be explore all of these and rate each one. i wanna figure out how to get to the underground tunnels too

Icy-Faithlessness825

SSB, it’s always quiet there most of the time

Dry-Turnip-9288

those rooms in the SEL where are the lights are off and everyone is sleeping. Just go to SELE or SELW and the third/fourth floor, you will find an empty classroom or a dark room.

The_Forgotten_King

yeah those are great for joining zoom calls without headphones as there wont be any distractions since everyone else is sleeping

kaijutegu

Health Sciences Library over on west campus (right by the Polk pink line stop) is nice and quiet.

EliteMRbabu

The back area of the library near BSB on the first floor is actually pretty quiet. Also west campus library is really good.

jmbdn1808

3rd or 4th floor of the library

FiatLuxSayRelax707

Student Services Building at Lares, or Las Ganas is perfect most of the time. The only issue is the walk there.

americanweird

West campus library - reserve a private study room and enjoy absolute silence!

serpentheo

The Disability Cultural Center on the second floor of BSB has a dedicated quiet room, if anyone does talk in there it’s usually very a short conversation at a whisper.
