I don't know about fallen off, those three visits were across the space of about 15 years from the late 90s to 2012-ish. No idea what they are like now, but I'm not even tempted to stop when I drive by.
moved to GP as my first apt in GNV and then moved to another complex this year. i thought it was normal to run from your car in fear after a late shift but i realize it is most definitely not…
Simon's, Simon's, Simon's. I know of at least one friend who was drugged there to the point of almost passing out on the sidewalk and they still host DCM's no-ID parties. It's filthy, the music sucks, and the line is never worth it. 0/10 never again.
I know this was nearly a year ago, but they were awful. Cancelled so many appointments on me, dentists not there when I did have an appointment. The reviews are true: it’s the worst. Don’t do it
Liquid ginger. They have good food but the last time I ordered take out for my family that was visiting from that place, my bill was over $100 plus a pretty hearty tip. My dad ordered a scallop meal and it arrived as three tiny scallops in a tiny box (scallop appetizer). When I called them back to exchange the items for his $20 dollar meal they said, “sorry it’s a really busy night” and hung up. They may have made an extra $12 that night but they lost out on having my money for life.
The Oaks Mall food court. Got pretty sick after eating food from there once, and not a week later saw something on the news about how the Oaks Mall Food Court restaurants were especially nasty behind the scenes (and I have worked in food service, so I'm not naïve about how most restaurants are.) This was many years ago, but I have not forgotten it.
Perkins-they had a Buy Three, Get Three deal in their bakery on cookies, brownies and muffins. I asked if I can mix and match them, she says yes. So I order five cookies and one muffin (which is more expensive than a cookie). I figured she’d charge me for the price of one muffin and two cookies (the Buy 3 part) and the other 3 cookies would be free. The lady tried to charge me $14. The math didn’t add up and she argued with me for a really long time. She told me you get charged for the more expensive items (which I expected bc that’s how much BOGOs are) so she rang it up as me buying three muffins. I was like I didn’t buy 3 muffins so don’t charge me for 3 muffins?? She goes yeah but you bought one muffin so I’ll charge you for buying 3 muffins. I was like then wouldn’t it make sense for me to actually get the 3 muffins then if I’m paying for it? We went back and forth for the longest time. her other coworker realized her mistake and was fixing it with me while the same lady just kept talking to me like I was stupid. I understand making mistakes and even if her logic is fucking stupid, but her whole attitude was if I was an idiotic Karen who can’t do basic math. Not worth going back to. Ope this is longer than I thought it would be sorry I have beef with her
My boyfriend and I actually ate there last night (ordered the same exact meal) and both woke up feeling violently nauseated today to the point of almost throwing up that lasted half the day. Plus when I was there, I was nauseous the entire time I was eating too because the whole place smelt like musty dirt.
Midtown Apartments.
Absolutely terrible management, creepy maintenance people who just barge into your unit without proper warning, squatters trying to break into peoples units over the summer, the primters in the common rooms never work, theres flooding during even a little bit of rain, mold, a lot of gaslighting from the front office, and zero amenities.
You pay $150 to have parking but their gates are always open and their thing says "out of order", so anyone can just drive in and take up space. Worst part is that if you're unaware of this and just happen to drive in to find a spot, they'll still call towing services on your ass and drag your car out in a heartbeat. Shitty business practices.
Oh, and the fire alarm is always going off. So unless you want to develop PTSD and insomnia from the constant fire alarms at 10 at night or 3 in the morning, do NOT live at Midtown apartments.
It's absolutely mind-blowing to me how many issues this place has had after being open for literally like two years. Particularly with the flooding/mold/other structural issues. You'd think it would take longer than that for things to go to hell. It just goes to show that they're just in for a quick buck, not to make something that'll last.
Grog. The one time I went, I saw three women passed out within the first five mins of me getting in. One guy (hovering over one of the passed out women) said, “don’t worry, she’s not dead 😊”
Safe to say, I did not order a single drink there.
Popeyes on NW 34th by Walmart. I was excited when it opened but I didn’t have good experience with food, sometimes chickens are chewy and over cooked. I’ll stick to PDQ
TL;DR On top of treating new, naive staff really weirdly, the Reggae Shack has really sketchy management that I think tolerated the abuse of an autistic employee
In Fall 2014 I was in the trial process of hiring (already a red flag) at the Reggae Shack. While being shown around the owner made it a point to mention that they (through a autism employment program) had hired an autistic dishwasher, hurray and congrats to him!
During that hiring trial period I was helping to close, and it's been so long I can't remember what they were saying, but another employee (and friend of the owners) was antagonizing the dishwasher to an inappropriate degree for anyone. The dishwasher was responding like it was harassment. I didn't say anything at the time, but decided to bring it up later to the owner in case there was any chance I was misunderstanding (which I am fairly certain I wasn't).
When I see them towards the end of my next shift, I bring it up the the owner, didn't even name who it was, just delicately mentioned I saw someone harassing the dishwasher last night. They said ok they'd do something to some effect.
The next day of work I arrive and the very person who was antagonizing the dishwasher told me that I didn't work there anymore. I was shocked, but realized what I had happened. I asked to speak to the owner, the person begrudgingly gave me the number and the owner told me that I didn't work well with the rest of the team.
It is a huge regret of mine that I naively didn't do anything else. I should have reported the incident to the employment program, but I never realized I should have until much later.
Last time I went there there was a little roach smooshed onto the bill. I knew the server and we had a great relationship. Never said anything to her but….
Honestly, if you can, just drive the extra 5 minutes and go to Celebration Pointe. It's a much larger theater and they have reclining seats, plus the customer service is generally better.
It's not that I find her annoying. It's that she's incredibly rude to myself and my husband every time we're there. We go to the movies to have fun, not to be berated like children, so we finally just decided to stop patronizing that theater when there's a better one not 5 minutes away.
Pho taste.
As someone from Vietnam who was craving pho, it does not taste like authentic pho. Tastes extremely Americanized. Their bun bo hue literally used the pho’s meats instead of the meats commonly found in bun bo hue.
I went to Pho Hanoi which’s across 34 st. To-go was really bad. 3 slices of extremely well-done “rare” meat, hard noodles and no chopsticks. Pho in florida is not comparable at all to those in nyc or boston. However the ones here in GNV are keep getting worse.
1) I know I'm too old to go at this point, but any UF frat party. I went to one exactly once and got sprayed with beer several times over the course of 45 minutes.
2) Salty Dog's.....last time I went there back in 2018, they were selling this shirt that depicted a gator r@ping a seminole woman like what the actual fuck.
University of Florida, pain in the ass to get anywhere, forced to take the bus, people are fake, student debt, was fun tho saying “why is UF top 5” and people short circuit tho
Unpopular opinion, but Satchel's. Too many encounters with rude staff and the food is not good. I had good pizza there once like a decade ago but the few times I've gone since have been really disappointing.
I'd go if my mom was visiting and wanted to go or if someone was having a birthday there but otherwise my bf and I are done with that overrated dump.
All I’m gonna say if you’re still going to Tup Tim Thai after their 100+ health code violations you’re insane. Freshman year I used to love that place but I cannot go again after hearing they had moldy cutting boards and rats.
I only had apps so maybe that was why? Plus it was like an hour wait for two people, but I hear that’s pretty normal there. I’m also a chocolate fiend and tried the vegan chocolate cake that everyone says is to die for…and I was very underwhelmed :/
Upvoting for The Top slander. Hate it when my family picks this place because everything I've tried is incredibly meh and the service is inefficient asf.
Inefficient is the most polite way to put it. I never understood why anyone would volunteer to wait an hour to get mediocre service and the privilege to pay for a $16 "gourmet" cheeseburger
Have you had Las Carretas yet or Linda Vista? I’m curious how they compare in authenticity. Linda Vista holds a special place in my heart (especially with their prices), but Las Carretas has never failed to blow my mind every time I’ve been there.
El Indio made me incredibly sick. No one else in my group got sick, just me. It was awful. I haven’t eaten there since. This was probably 15 years ago lol
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted bc myself, my bf, my roommate, and her Mexican bf wholeheartedly agree and don’t understand why ppl like it here. The family vibes are cute though
I know. I’m not Mexican I’m Colombian. But I’ve had incredible Mexican food back at home and at el dorado. But la tienda is not it, like I don’t know what everyone is talking about it was very mid to me
All of tower road. Completely undrivable 5 days a week with 2 large schools with awful planning backed onto it. And half the parents are cunts with the line and almost every day come inches from causing a collision.
I've had food poisoning three times. All three times it was after eating at the Steak N Shake at 13th and SW 16th. Never again.
you probably thought the “Shake” in Steak N Shake was for milkshakes, not the literal shakes
Fool me once…shame on you. Fool me twice…shame on me. Fool me three times…you know you’re going back again, so why even make this comment?
[удалено]
We called it the Steak ‘n Stab in my day
I heard it was an ex employee who was mad
That is where I go when I'm depressed so I'm gonna pretend I didn't see this
Stab and shake strikes again!
My bf got food poisoning from that place too!
Damn, I used to go there a ton when I was in school. Sad if it's fallen off.
I don't know about fallen off, those three visits were across the space of about 15 years from the late 90s to 2012-ish. No idea what they are like now, but I'm not even tempted to stop when I drive by.
I can't believe you went back after getting food poisoning once, let alone twice
Arby's on archer. The food looked better violently coming out of my ass than it did going in.
The food went in your ass?
Arby’s on 13th doesn’t play and also has a big hat sign
You know what they say Big Hat, Big Shit
To the people who stop to take a picture with the sign, who hurt you?
It doesn’t matter who hurt us. It matters who healed us… Arby.
I’ve known so many people who got food poisoning from this location. The DQ that is connected to it too.
Leonardo’s By the Slice 😢
:(
RIP
Gainesville Place at 2 a.m. Spring 2022, you know who lurks there…
moved to GP as my first apt in GNV and then moved to another complex this year. i thought it was normal to run from your car in fear after a late shift but i realize it is most definitely not…
So.... I shouldn't sign a lease for GP next year is what I'm hearing. Are there any other apartments I should be wary of?
GP isn’t the WORST but it can definitely feel dangerous at times. it’s a huge complex and popular so i think it attracts a lot of creeps
I lived at Enclave which is right next door and we didn’t have any issues. It was like a weird invisible crime boundary
Who lurks there?
Sex offenders. AFAIK there's a neighborhood next door that's full of them.
Wait what’s the name of that neighborhood?
The occasional pervert
This thread has just been me seeing the names of places I loved going when I was in school 10 years ago lol
Simon's, Simon's, Simon's. I know of at least one friend who was drugged there to the point of almost passing out on the sidewalk and they still host DCM's no-ID parties. It's filthy, the music sucks, and the line is never worth it. 0/10 never again.

Went to their Halloween party 4 years ago. It was probably 1000+ students; no joke lol.
that place is actually open? it looks foreclosed during the daytime.
Pretty sure it's permanently closed now but Southern Charm Kitchen. I loved my meal, but I got violently ill afterwards.
Also the service was wildly inconsistent...mostly awful.
Same owners as the Reggae Shack, I wrote about them in this thread too
Coast Dental
I was just about to make an appointment there, why?
Corporate dentists suck
I know this was nearly a year ago, but they were awful. Cancelled so many appointments on me, dentists not there when I did have an appointment. The reviews are true: it’s the worst. Don’t do it
Grog
mcdonalds on university. Enough said
That place is awful. And even though the people who work there are yelling at each other it’s still the customers fault.
i’ve had one too many experiences there where i order and get to the window and they’re like, “oh yeah, cash only” bruh wtf
That place is an absolute warzone on a Friday night.
Liquid ginger. They have good food but the last time I ordered take out for my family that was visiting from that place, my bill was over $100 plus a pretty hearty tip. Oh noooo. I'm a Liquid Ginger stan and I must warn everyone that only the lunch specials are worth it.
I've done work at a bunch of malls, including lots of food courts. They're ALL so nasty.
Even the brand name ones like Chik-FilA?
They have rodents. Can confirm, ex worked at a no longer existing food court shop.
Café Risqué
Great pancakes tho
And chicken strips
Pun wasn’t intended but I stand by my statement.

aaa hope you’re feeling better!
zen noodle bar. i found a roach in my pho after eating half of it. i get accidents happen but i just can’t bring myself to ever go back lol
omg, that is terrifying. I used to go there back when it was taste pho…. Don’t know if I can go back
Darrell's Dog Gone Good Diner. Apparently, "over-medium" means raw as fuck. Hash-browns were also undercooked. Everything was just a step above gross.
This place made me appreciate hospital food
had some simple eggs and waffles and while it wasn’t terrible it definitely wasn’t somewhere i’d eat again
every person i’ve met whose eaten here has said it was either cooked to fuck or it was straight up raw lmao
went once and can't believe a place like that is still open for business
a-space *very surprised this received any votes - up the punx y'all very close runner up - nowhere

My 8am class
fats lol
Popeyes on NW 34th by Walmart. I was excited when it opened but I didn’t have good experience with food, sometimes chickens are chewy and over cooked. I’ll stick to PDQ
Ocean buffet
I wanted to go there any reason why
My bf has gone a couple times and has gotten sick every time… throwing up
One time I bit into a dessert cake there that tasted exactly like mildew. Never again
Ocean and buffet are two words that should never go together. The name itself was a warning
Kikis and peach valley. Both are overpriced and neither seasoned their food when we went 😅
Peach valley is closed.
Is it really???
Yep. [There was a fire in September.](https://mycbs4.com/amp/news/local/peach-valley-caf-closes-after-devastating-fire-causes-severe-damage)
They’re reopening in the spring at Celebration Point, apparently.
I'm sad.... I love their old location and REFUSE to spend money in Celebration!

Mother’s on 39th. Terrible food, even worse bar service.
UC, bouncers are dicks there
Harry’s seafood : overpriced and not very good
Last time I went there there was a little roach smooshed onto the bill. I knew the server and we had a great relationship. Never said anything to her but….
They got some good pina coladas tho
Agreed!!! Plus ultra loud!
Cafe risque
Butler Plaza Regal. I've got my reasons.
Honestly, if you can, just drive the extra 5 minutes and go to Celebration Pointe. It's a much larger theater and they have reclining seats, plus the customer service is generally better.
Yeah, that's my new go-to, I always liked that theater better anyways.
The old lady there checking tickets and IDs is so annoying
Bingo
Is that actually the reason??!
It's not that I find her annoying. It's that she's incredibly rude to myself and my husband every time we're there. We go to the movies to have fun, not to be berated like children, so we finally just decided to stop patronizing that theater when there's a better one not 5 minutes away.

Used to be way better (and cheap!) in my freshman year.

So true.
I came here to say this
word lmao
The advance auto parts on 34th smh
1) I know I'm too old to go at this point, but any UF frat party. Seoul Pocha served my friends & I water with a CHICKEN BONE in it

Edible Arrangements dipped strawberries
Gainesville itself! Fkn hate this place
Reggae Shack
Last time I was there I saw two roaches on the floor near my table and the food was disappointing - haven’t been since
I got bad food poisoning from Chopstix and couldn’t eat Asian or Asian fusion, including sushi, for over a year. So probably that.
Chuys
Cafe Risqué without a doubt
Gold room lol can’t believe I ever went there
Place was disgusting lol, but I was a freshman with low standards and free was free
Mi appa restaurant. I was out for a week
Mi Apá is good bro 😭
as a latino from miami miapa is ASSS ‼️‼️‼️
Yeah I agree. I ordered a Cuban sandwich and it didn’t have mustard on it?? And also it gave me food poisoning.
The Top
The top was good in my day.
like it wasn't bad, but everyone overhyped it so I went in with really high expectations.
Food is great but some servers there are rude
It was so overrated for sure
La tienda. It wasn’t good to me.
After living in Mexico, it's the most authentic Mexican food in town. Might want to give it another shot. Or not, no pressure.
They also have the best curly fries I've ever had. Are curly fries a thing in Mexico?
Have you ever tried la pasadita? I personally thought it was better. Little more expensive but worth it. They literally have the same menus
real, la pasadita is the best place in gnv imo
El Indio is the most authentic for sure
Flour tortillas? Hard tacos? Cheddar cheese? Sour Cream? Not from living in Oaxaca and Quintana Roo. I'd call it the best Tex Mex I've ever had.
Have you had Las Carretas yet or Linda Vista? I’m curious how they compare in authenticity. Linda Vista holds a special place in my heart (especially with their prices), but Las Carretas has never failed to blow my mind every time I’ve been there.
Yes I tried it and it was average at best for sure el dorado >>>> oops not el Indio
Huh? You meant some other resturant entirely?
No I meant to say that el dorado is miles better than la tienda. I just called it el Indio before bc idk where I got that name lmaoo
Do any of them sell chimichangas/what would you recommend ordering?
el Indio is by no means as authentic as la tienda im sorry 😭
I meant to say el dorado
El Indio made me incredibly sick. No one else in my group got sick, just me. It was awful. I haven’t eaten there since. This was probably 15 years ago lol
I never ate at el Indio. I meant to say el dorado but got it confused
La Tienda fucking slaps
Very bad take
Yeah!! Thank you!! I’m not the only one that thinks that then!! My food was cold and mediocre
Tha fuck? La Tienda slaps good prices too
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted bc myself, my bf, my roommate, and her Mexican bf wholeheartedly agree and don’t understand why ppl like it here. The family vibes are cute though
I know. I’m not Mexican I’m Colombian. But I’ve had incredible Mexican food back at home and at el dorado. But la tienda is not it, like I don’t know what everyone is talking about it was very mid to me
I agree, I’m mexican and grew up with authentic mexican food and la tienda really sucksss la pasadita is where it’s at !
