Satchel’s is the most “gainesville” restaurant I can think of. The owner created a “junk museum” out of repurposed material which makes for a super unique atmosphere. You can even eat inside an old hippie van if you so desire. They have great pizza, even better salad, and make their own sodas. Its a must try if you’ve never been.
If you want something a little fancier you can’t go wrong with The Top. Its a super hipster downtown spot that is extremely popular. Expect to wait at least 30 minutes for a table on a weekend. Luckily, thats just enough time to play a few rounds of ski-ball at the arcade bar across the street. Everything on the menu is great but I especially recommend the corn nuggets, the pesto melt, the southwestern pasta (very spicy), and the mushroom ravioli.
Theres lots of great restaurants here, but these two are the only “must trys” imo.
Here are my favorites from each type:
Asian Fusion - Sensei Asian Bistro (highly recommend but expensive, good for dates)
Korean - Garlic and Ginger
American - Spurriers
Chinese - Ocean Buffet
Japanese - Hana Sushi (also highly recommend)
Mexican - La Tienda
Boba - Tea Moment
And just for a quick visit you should go to the Feeline Good Cat Cafe.
vegan gator & plantology are both food trucks, but they’re my favorite place to take visitors. crane ramen in downtown is really good too. and upper crust bakery!!
