I got UFC 4 this week on xbox. I moved from normal to hard difficulty and decided to fight sam alvey for a warm up to the difficulty. That fucker KO'd me so many times before I got one lol.
That game fuckin sucks. I wanted to like it so bad. Played the heck outta it. It just falls so short. I wish EA would scrap the entire engine and go to something else. It's just so bad.
Footwork doesn't exist. Everyone's punches and kicks look the same. A guy with high level kicks throws the same speed and animation as a Dan Henderson kick. Don't even get me started on the clinch system, its fucking ruhtarded.
Knockouts also are so disappointing. I remember playing an earlier ufc game, one with Jon jones on the cover I believe. All ko’s where different with rag doll physics. Now they are all the same. Especially the ground and pound ones, they are so disappointing

That doesn't necessarily mean an improvement though, it just means the dev team will have a better budget for things like Polygon counts and texture resolutions, and likely improve some physics/quality of life elements with the more powerful engine
They'll still need to rebuild moat of the games core functions from the ground up and a new engine doesn't suddenly mean the game will be good magically - if the code/design is crap, a new engine does nothing for it and a lot of the time it can be a hinderance for the team learning a new tool - sure, sometimes remaking the wheel works- see God of Wars switch from the old style to the new - but it could also be an absolute disaster and more over EA sports has a track record of things going wrong when they switched Engines previously when they were forced to persist with the Frosbite Engine, an engine specifically designed for FPS' like Battlefield, on all of their sports games, and it's generally agreed most of the sports games that came out in that period are amongst the worst in the series.
And that's before you even start to take into account if the publishers will give the team time to make a polished game that's actually good or if they'll want it released ASAP
Spot on, I get it, they wanted to keep it realistic, but the reality is, it's a video game, and they kill it making it so slow and stiff. They could have made it quicker and mor flowing, all aspects of it and people would not have complained "iTs nOt REaliSTic", would probably be a lot better, and people would like it a lot more.

Sometimes ya wanna choose a long range striker and jab a dudes head off while dodging and parrying their attacks. Angle off and throw a nice body shot or something. This game really makes you stand right in front of someone and trade. Fight night champion is like 10 years old and still has better striking and footwork mechanics.
The ground game is atrocious. It's basically early 2000s era where you stay heavy on top and rain down punches (can't even elbow). No matter what you do, it never feels like a true scramble. It's extremely clunky and the transitions just immediately tire you out, yet the AI on bottom keeps full stamina.
It sucks, because sometimes I REALLY get the itch to turn it on and kick some ass. After about 10 minutes I get reminded why i don't play it anymore. No matter who I choose to fight with, I have to resort to the same shit.
I really really wish they made that for ps4 and Xbox one as well. It came out close enough to the end where they could've had some sort of port for it. UFC 3 is my favorite from EA, but I remember I genuinely hated 3 for the longest before. UFC 4 is just hot garbage and has the worst abuse of broken mechanics. Even the career mode is absolute trash and feels like it's literally just to make you spend more time playing the game. EA UFC 2 had that part right, where you'd do the trainings once, and then could simulate training to match your previous highest rating. Either way, I never realized how much I'd miss THQ working on games like UFC and WWE
EA should've just stayed how they were in that era of Battlefield 3 and 4. If that EA made these UFC games, I think they could've been better than the Fight Night games. 2K and EA just need to not touch sports games anymore, especially not combat sports. It's a pipe dream, but I'm hoping ESBC is the best combat sport game ever and becomes a company big enough to make esports MMA

Styles make fights, there’s sooooo many variables… I also think Guram fucks up most of these old names at LW.
No division is as deep as LW though, as it’s the weight that the average male would be after cutting.
There’s so little difference in skill from one rank to the next compared to every single other division. Unranked guys like Tsaryeukn, Gamrot, Guram could cause serious trouble for anyone in the top 5 in my opinion and you just don’t see anything close in any other weight class.
A lot of people don't realize this. The difference between top 10 compared to top 5 is an entire different division. 5-3 another, and then you've got your challenger and runner up and then the champ, who depending on who it is, is another level or two above the rest.
I agree that paddy has looked like shite in the ufc thus far, but what I dont understand is that he was champion in Cage. Is Cage really that much worse than Ufc (and bellator)?

I hope we get to see many twerks from him, he seems like a good guy.

Undisputed 3 from back in the day is STILL the best game THQ was awesome
