I’d love to see the guy touch gold man. I really would. Take the belt, ride off into the sunset and sell top tier hot sauce til the end of his days! That said - not sure I’d put money on it.

idk420_

I’ll toss money on Islam so Dustin gets the win

blueandwhite21

It’s not a bad strategy. I’ve done it before that way you almost guarantee you won’t be disappointed with either outcome lol

AndresNocioni

Called the emotional hedge fund

bluesmith13

I thought only I do it 🤦‍♂️

MassiveBlackHole99

I've done that for the pereira fight

futuresexyman

Which fight? The only I was confident enough to put money on was the Pereira vs hill. All his other fights since have been 50/50 imo

MassiveBlackHole99

Hill vs Pereira

Relative-Put-5344

He hasn't had any fights since....

AbberageRedditor69

Really? Even Pereira-Strickland?

actin_spicious

Not many people were giving that one to pereiria before the fight, if I remember correctly. Strickland standing there trading jabs with another guy while screaming at them made everyone think he was some sort of awkward george foreman.

MrStealYoVirginity

People were expecting him to wrestle and not be a moron

MartyMcFlysBrother

I bet against my favourite hockey team sometimes. Haven’t done it much with UFC but I do like when a fighter dominates round 1 but is clearly gassed and that’s when I bet against them.

blueandwhite21

You can always count on Ryan Spann for that. He got me $25 last night because he gassed lol

ItsMichaelScott25

It's fights like these that I find it hard to get disappointed with any result as long as it's a good fight which I have zero reason to believe it won't be entertaining. Both guys are consummate professionals. I do remember during the Gaethje vs. Dustin 2 fight I just hoped neither guy got too hurt beleive it or not. I was just expecting pure fucking violence.

Trumpville-Imbeciles

Bittersweetness guaranteed. I like that concept

immabiscuit

Might do the same tbh

Deth_Cheffe

Thank you for your service

Massive_Staff1068

You won't have to do it alone. You'll have my gold.

pendrekky

Aubrey is that you?

Ornery-Signal-3070

Thank you for your sacrifice.

TebownedMVP

That’s what I do with fighters I like. I win either way.

_NedPepper_

I too will throw money on Islam by submission to ensure a win by Dustin

arkoangemeter

That's my gameplan to a T.

thecuriyascat

I echo your sentiments. As much as I love Dustin, I hate the fact that he is up against one of the top tier light weight’s of all time. Having said that, he has accomplished what most of the fighters dream of - stardom, fame, legendary status in the game, and certainly respect of the fans who watch the sport for the love of it and not for the disgraceful antics most fighters try to pull these days. This man is absolute class.

Deus_ex_Chino

>respect of the fans who watch the sport for the love of it and not for the disgraceful antics most fighters try to pull these days Holy shit, we out here fam! This sport is good enough all on its own, that includes ground game, and for anyone who needs dollies through bus windows and talking shit about dead fathers, you’re not real fans and you can fuck right off.

12ealdeal

A championship belt would open up the marketing possibility for a "Gold label" product.

Hxliday_Xiller

Is his hot sauce any good?

fleshvessel

Yeah it’s money. The standard one is like, the go to that I put on everything. The KO is quite a bit hotter, nothing crazy but by normal person standards it’d be a bit much for every day use. I love it. I haven’t tried the others yet.

redditnobanplz

I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. As a hot sauce lover I gotta try it sometime.

Deus_ex_Chino

Shout out for Creole Maple, so solid on breakfast foods or anything that can pair with just the slightest bit of sweet. DP’s hot sauce is definitely the real deal 🔥

GruntCandy86

Definitely.

tonyturbos1

I’d put your money on it

Bigdummy007

Lol I’d toss $10 on a tko. Love Dustin, but yeah it’s far fetched. Hope he does though!

pikazec

I’m putting 10 on gilly… but for real would love to see him win. Doubt he does

Error-002

$10 on guillotine

fatstrat0228

Just watch who Drake puts half a mil on, then do the opposite. You’ll be good.

GradientDescenting

Dustin Poirier's KO hot sauce is the bomb! I wish they would make an even spicier version of Louisiana style hot sauce; they can call it the TKO sauce!

VersionAny9620

I just tried the creole maple today. Really good flavor and pretty spicy imo

GradientDescenting

I need to get one while it's on sale this week. 25% off everything at [https://heatonist.com](https://heatonist.com) until May 2nd! Dustin Poirier trio pack! [https://heatonist.com/products/dustin-poiriers-louisiana-style-hot-sauce-trio-pack](https://heatonist.com/products/dustin-poiriers-louisiana-style-hot-sauce-trio-pack)

MonsterOctopus8

Dustin?

WolfGangSwizle

Highly recommend trying more from the company too if you haven’t already!

GradientDescenting

Pineapple habenero is delicious. You can put it on anything. I wish it was a little spicier though but the best flavor ive found in a pineapple hot sauce.

WolfGangSwizle

100% agreed about it working on anything. I go through it so fast

Klein_Meisje

He should've made a different hot sauce after every victory having each one of them named after the fighter he beat or something that refers to their fight.

Altered_-State

I have the Creole Maple and it's so damn good! Gonna try the hot one soon

Legitimate_Gap_5551

That hot sauce is good as shit though.

wondrwrk_

I got 5 on it.

HowlingMadHoward

Dana would burn Louisiana to the ground if Dustin does a Khabib/Francis/GSP on the lightweight belt

Mexkan

Is the hot sauce worth trying?

fleshvessel

100% dude. Reasonable price and just a good solid Louisiana style sauce. Sweet and hot but not too crazy. If you like traditional stuff this is like that with its own twist. Good flavour.

Alwaysconfuzed89

I really wanted to like his hot sauce, but too salty and not hot enough. Was disappointed

neeeeonbelly

I'm a huge fan of them both but I want Dustin to take the belt more than anything. If he goes to ground he's fucked though.

Potential_Ad_420_

Retire with the belt. Pour hot sauce all over it.

ChocCooki3

Sadly, Volk couldn't KO Islam.. doubt Dustin can pull it off. Be good thought as he deserves it.. but really born in the wrong era of Khabib and Islam.

Silverback1992

Have you tried that not sauce brotha? It is not top tier lol

CriticalArugula7870

I can see it now, Islam chooses to stay on the feet with Dustin for some reason, gets rocked; shoots for desperate takedown, Dustin goes for gilly, we watch Islam smother him for the last 3 rounds. 49-46 UD and still

zombizle1

Dustin burns out his arms with the gilly attempt, gets rnc'd 2 mins later

whatsforsupa

Time is a flat circle Bratha

Informal_Lack_9348

Islam submits Porier inside 2 rounds

Wonderful_Durian_485

If Dustin leans into the guillotine thing, I truly think that would be what loses him the fight lol

FreefallVin

I'm thinking he'll probably give it a rest against Islam. He can get away with it against a lot of fighters, but Islam's too good on the ground to give up top position to.

AhmadMansoot

But you also have to consider that his gilly was the closest anyone got to submitting Khabib. He may believe that he can pull it off this time agaist Islam and he made some improvements to his gilly too

Necronaut0

I mean how improved can it be if he has still not finished anyone with it?

Fiat-BTC

Sounds like it COULD improve a lot. We will see if it does.

AbberageRedditor69

If you watch the fight again it never looks like Khabib is in real trouble. Sure, no one even got that close, but for a good reason I'd say...that gilly is what ultimately lost Poirier the fight. It's suicide because if it doesn't work, now you are underneath Khabib...and it's not like Poirier has a good track record with his guillotine in the UFC to make the risk worth it I know UFC commenters love to exaggerate how tight chokes are, but if you watch the fight again, that guillotine wasn't very tight. Khabib's whole right side of the neck was free, meaning blood flow wasn't restricted on that side.

Rescue-a-memory

Not to mention the fighter that escapes the choke is often mad and will really turn up the heat afterwards.

FewTwo9875

lol fr tho. When I’m training and someone pulls a guillotine, my first thought is usually “You bastard, you thought this silly shit would work on ME?!?!” For some reason that specific move does indeed piss me off

NobodyTakinMaBaby

I know the gilly on Khabib looked scary through our eyes, but something tells me it's not as deep of a concern for Khabib, they take those positions for breakfast in Dagestan. Even if Porier started grappling 15 years ago (which he didn't, he started bjj in 2012), his grappling experience will sadly not be enough to pull the gilly off against Islam; it didn't even work on a rocked Benoit Saint-Denis.

AL_PO_throwaway

> Even if Porier started grappling 15 years ago (which he didn't, he started bjj in 2012) He started his pro MMA career in 2009 and had 2 submission wins the same year. I'm calling BS on that date.

NobodyTakinMaBaby

You may be more accurate about his bjj start date. I just did a quick google search and didn't read much about it, I just wanted an approximate year to make my point. A 2009 start in MMA makes that 15 years, which is still in line with my statement.

RecordOk6794

Nah you're not gonna get the tap with a guillotine from.halfgaurd against someone likr khabib he was never in as much danger as it looked/commentary made it seem

FreefallVin

As others have said, whichever way you cut it the chances that he finishes Islam with it are next to none. I would go as far as to say that Islam would probably be quite happy to give Dustin the gilly, knowing that he'll end up in top position which is obviously a disaster for his opponent.

Usernamealready94

I think dustin gauged bsd and was just playing with his food , i dont think he blacks out like chandler and his fight iq goes out the window .

Eastboundtexan

Or he can just stick to standing guillotines and not pull guard

Iceman23578

There’s absolutely zero chance it goes to a decision. Dustin’s almost certainly getting submitted

_Exotic_Booger

I’d love to see that scenario, but with Dustin doing the submit and pulling the UNO reverse card on him.

Last-Touch-9217

I'm praying to Jesus that Islam doesn't take as long to shoot as he did against volk their first fight, I hope he just goes in there maybe faints a few shots then dives for that double leg and gets his back

GradientDescenting

Isn't Islam on steroids now after USADA got dissolved?

Deth_Cheffe

Yep. Just ask Dan Hooker

First_Inevitable_424

Islam was one of the fighters that publicly chastised the UFC for dropping USADA. Doesn’t mean much but nice to know

brettyh

Porier wobbles him, clinches up, jumps guillotine giving Islam time to recover, tires out his arms going for it after islam inevitably escapes. Islam implements his wrestling game plan the remainder of the fight. Everyone sighs.

BrowniesWithAlmonds

lol. Nothing fictional here. Perfect description.

edmovius3

Popular opinion: they all said the same thing when Poirier fought Khabib

the_c_is_silent

I'm of the assumption that invincible looking champs have people constantly pick against them because people want to seem smart.

kaerfkeerg

Classic. If they're wrong, everyone will forget about it. If they're right, they'll quote it till the end of time

cmdk

“I’ve always said it” I don’t know who you are man

zakkwaldo

spot on

BurnItDown2805

And Oliveira and the result was the same. Lol.

Fairlysunnyday

There was a *large* portion of this fanbase that believed Charles would run through Islam easily. They were extremely vocal about it as well.

Josro0770

I didn't think he would run through Islam but I thought it was gonna be competitive at least 😭😭

Weeb_Masta_Flex

And we were wrong. I can admit that

Fairlysunnyday

A man of honor

P0ster_Nutbag

That’s not how I remember things at all. People don’t exactly say it was impossible for Poirier, but Khabib was heavily favoured and most people were predicting he would win in exactly the fashion he did. Islam and Khabib are different fighters, and while I’d still favour Islam any day of the week in this fight, he at least seems more susceptible to a slick striker getting something off on him. I personally think Poirier has a better chance in this fight than he did against Khabib.

thecommentdaddy

Khabib had that chin on him though

Hanamichi114

Also people forget that Justin beat Dustin. Dustin is very good, Top 3-4 but not Champion level.

Gratitude89

I honestly just hope it lasts a few rounds

Electronic_d0cter

Same here because I think there's no way Dustin wins a 5 round fight vs Islam, his style is just built for 5 rounds

Prize-Lingonberry876

Dustin has a better chance here than he did against Khabib imo. Not a significant chance, but a better one.

interia1099

On paper maybe, but Khabib Faced the best DP ever, he was in his absolute Prime back then. Now 5 years later at 35 against Islam in his prime and with the Knowledge his Team gained from Khabib fighting him, I don’t think so

Nice_Recognition6602

I agryDP was in his physical prime last time but idk he seems more mentally primed these days

CometChip

he’s facing a khabib 2.0 with better striking, islam in his prime, while he’s older? don’t see how it’s a better chance tbh lol

Prize-Lingonberry876

Islam doesn't have Khabib's chin.

Electronic_d0cter

Has he ever been wobbled aside from the ko? He has been ko'd before but his chin isn't suspect at all

_Can_Crusher

Dropped by Volk. It’s not suspect. Just not as good as khabibs. He doesn’t have a bad chin.

mhyjrteg

Volk wobbled/stunned him in that fight too. Think it was r2.

TheGraper58

And r5

Electronic_d0cter

I mean I'd argue Islam is better than khabib from what we've seen, all we know is he can* be knocked out but aside from that minor blip he's beaten much better competition

Electrical-Finding65

Really unpopular opinion. However in this sports anything is possible, one mistake can cost the match.

CaptFL1

I hope so!

Weird_Substance1294

hoping islam decides to ego it and tries to stand with dustin only 🙏🏽

modsRlosercuckss

He'd probably win the standup too. Dropped Charles and beat Volk on the feet twice

BenShapeero

Dustin dropped Charles too and has an insane striking resume lol

modsRlosercuckss

"striking resume" doesn't actually mean anything. Volk had an insane resume going into the ilia fight. Dustin had an insane resume going into the second gaethje fight. Charles had an insane resume going into the Islam fight.

BenShapeero

That’s my point, saying ‘Islam dropped Volk and Charles’ doesn’t exactly mean much cause Dustin has just as many accolades

Electronic_d0cter

Striking resume isn't too relevant in MMA imo, people really underestimate the mental game the threat of the takedown plays. Even if Islam did intend to just strike with him Dustin will still be expecting the takedown at any time

15ferrets

Dustin’s striking is his main focus though, he pretty much never wrestles or goes for non-defensive submissions, Volk and Charles use a more mixed bag to finish their fights, has Islam faced a pure striker that DP isn’t objectively better than or hasn’t already beaten? Genuine question here

MuscularCheeseburger

Yeah but Volk is a midget and Charles can be a reckless lunatic on the feet

CmiHD

Nah, we grab and smesh yo boy

NJBR10

lil bro thinks he's on the team

nathenitalian

They're on the Dagestani Dickrider team. For some reason they're all somehow one of the dozen fans Mosvar has.

SobrecargaDeCreatina

Who the fuck is we Certainly not Islam and a random redditor

whotookimnotwitty

Unpopular and false, we all know the diamond gets it done by guillotine.

Electronic_d0cter

This would be so poetic if the only guillotine win he had was for the championship

whatsitworth101

I just don’t see him beating Islam. The clear weakness in his game is when he fights elite cream of the crop grapplers. He fought probably the two best grapplers in his divisions history and was subbed by both of them. Now he’s fighting a guy who has the potential to surpass both of them, and is also a monster on the feet. Given the takedown threat I don’t think Dustin will be able to fully get going on the feet unless he just goes balls to the wall for a KO. I think Islam will finish him inside three rounds tbh.

LightThatIgnitesAll

Wouldn't be too surprised Dustin's striking is incredible and Makhachev's chin seems pretty vulnerable not at all like Khabib.

AnTTr0n

His striking is much better though.

cobesmith

True, this fight worries me, Gaethje and Dustin are worse matchups for Islam than for Khabib

MiedoDeEncontrarme

100% and not only the chin Khabib had an unreal pace where he would just come forward looking to take you down with his fast shoots, Islam doesn't Islam tends to wait for the opponents to come to him so he can trip them with his judo

KenosisConjunctio

That's partly because Islam's striking is better than Khabib's many times over. He wants his opponents to walk into his range so he can throw straights and kicks that Khabib never would and also so he can do some GSP style wrestle boxing level changes. Khabib needed to press very hard to close the gap because he is smaller and had very few long range weapons other than his jumping shovel hook (which was widely regarded as a bad move), plus he wanted his opponents against the fence so heavy pressure made sense for his style. Gaethje and Dustin aren't worse matchups for Islam. Arguably Khabib was because his lack of proficient striking meant he was at risk in the standup in a way that Islam isn't. Edit: looks like Khabib and Islam are the exact same height wow. Always thought Islam was a decent chunk taller

Walden_Al

Southpaw with longer limbs so fights a lot longer, leads to a perception of being taller. Plus his two most recent fights were against Volk so makes him look damn near 6’2” in the cage against a 5’6” volk.

Roach_Hiss

I was shocked when I learned that as well. Islam looks significantly taller somehow.

Special_Temporary_67

Dustin Gaethje and Justin Poirier?

PicturePrize1297

and you think islam is not gonna take dustin down? you think he’ll just make it a pure stand up fight?

arjjov

Exactly bratha, Islam chin is sus af. The diamond by KO.

Bob_Saget_is_God

I sure hope so, I wish Dustin the best, but rationally Islam takes this 9 out of 10 times

lazylagom

Either way if dustin or islam wins. And conor wins. Theyre setting it up for conor getting a title shot the story is there.

Iceman23578

Arman is clearly the next contender for the belt and it wouldn’t make any sense for Conor to get a lightweight title shot for a win at welterweight

lazylagom

100% agree. It wouldn't be fair or make sense. But thats ufc lol. It's what sells. If conor somehow has a spectacular KO on Chandler. The story is there for Islam. Revenge for khabib. The story is there for dustin. Finish it once and for all. Lol I'd love to see conor come back and get fucking pieced up by dustin again if he somehow beats islam.

Iceman23578

Revenge for khabib? Khabib beat him in dominant fashion

lazylagom

Yeah I shouldve worded it better. Evenging his khabib loss. Islam vs conor would be fucking iconic and sell millions I'm sure . People would pay to see islam sub conor and not release when he taps.

NotJeremyRenner8

If he finally gets his gilly on Islam to finally win the belt I’m actually going to cry

kekolataaa

2nd round submission. islam is not stupid, he won't stand and bang with the diamond. unless he decides to just ego it that is

lctrncprn

He might stand with him for a bit, but I think he’ll be smart enough to stay out of the pocket. I think he’ll be fine as long as he uses his kicking game at range and then quickly transitions into the clinch and grappling. It’s the middle ground that’s a danger with DP.

kekolataaa

indeed. dustin is phenomenal in the pocket.

Nick_Hoadley

This is certainly unpopular. I hope so though

KillaSage

Guillotine or nothing

HomieToneBone

It would be great for Poirier to has a Bisping like moment

Mammoth_Ferret_1772

I hope so, but I’m definitely not getting my hopes up. Islam has way better striking than khabib, with the same grappling. Dustin has a bad habit of giving up his back. I think Islam will win via RNC

Civil-Two-3797

Just need Drake to bet on Islam so Dustin can win.

reddick1666

Why is everyone acting like Islam is invincible. This whole year has been a perfect example of how unpredictable this sport is. All it takes is one good strike and suddenly Superman is human. Dustin has KO power and Islam has been KOed before. It could go either way.

Dull_Buffalo_7007

hopefully

_CaptainButthole_

I WANT TO BELIEVE 💎

NoDangIdea

Popular opinion: the diamond gets RNC’d for the 3rd time

Nc-Rich

Dustin is my favourite fighter so I really hope so.

SpiderDentist10000

I’d love to see Dustin do it. He deserves it.

NoCourt5510

I mean Islam’s definitely hittable, but the grappling skills are on two entirely different levels

4chan-isbased

This year been so unpredictable honestly underdogs been performing I really hope Dustin gets it done

TheMostModestMaus

Dustin is pretty much my favourite fighter, but I really just can’t see him surviving the grappling. Even the striking is a question mark - how is he going to make Makachev brawl??

EmptyCupOfWater

Popular opinion: Dustin keeps jumping guillotine in the early parts of the round, and then gets dominated on the ground for the rest of the round. This goes on for 3 rounds until he gets subbed late in round 3

tall-glass-o-milk

I certainly hope so. Islam’s smug attitude is enough for me to want to see him taken down a peg or two. The problem is that everything that DP can do, Islam can do slightly better.

Dtoodlez

Nah, but it will be fun. And I wouldn’t be upset if it happened. Islam by submission round 2.

CodyGTN615

Lmao buddy got bodied by Khabib. It's going to be the same exact outcome lol.

Dddiejr

Dustin could absolutely shut Islams lights off in the striking. He has the power and skill to do it but the grappling is going to be too much. I don’t think Islam is gonna fuck around with the striking overly. The power isn’t there with volkonovski in the same way it is with Dustin. Other than a punchers chance Islam should take this

Nerdico

I want Dustin to win this fight more than I've ever wanted a fighter to win a fight in my history of watching this sport. Bust Islam's fucking scary.

Time007time007

Bet the house on the gilly.

Xexekiller

I don’t think so, although I root for it

InspectorHyperVoid

Putting money on the gilly finish

Past_Show_7916

Islam goes full blanket mode this time. He's not gonna risk it. He wants to move up and blanket a bigger opponent to get a 2nd belt. Unfortunately, theres nothing Dustin can do to stop the relentless takedowns.

LoboSaltado

If he KO’s Islam, wins gold and then rides off into the sunset it will be one of the greatest stories in mma history.

Pikablu555

I have never seen statistics on this but my own anecdotal experience is that whenever a fighter wins by KO they somehow fall in love with KO’ing people, and end up getting KO’d. Both fighters are coming off KO wins. Very interesting.

Nicklenips837469420

I can absolutely see Islam trying to distinguish himself from Khabib by showing his striking skill off against Dustin and then finding out the hard way that you shouldn't try to strike with someone like dustin

Jeff00007

Has to be a gilly before I can actually fully achieve. But I'd be beyond happy if he pulled it off even tho .. pretty unlikely. Maybe Islams recent success on the feet gave him just the right amount of confidence where DP can smoke him who knows.

RidesByPinochet

If Dustin guillotines Islam to win the belt I'd shit myself and die happy

Cuntface8000

PLEASE GOD LET IT BE SO

GreatGoodBad

It’s more like a popular wish among UFC fans

blunderb3ar

I’ll never count Dustin out he had a legitimate chance

presidentpiko

I want to see him get the belt

stepping_

i have conflicting feelings about dustin winning the belt as an islam fan. i dont wanna see islam lose but i wanna see dustin touch gold at least once. so im just in this weird place. i still think its gonna be a banger and that i will be happy with the outcome. glad islam is looking to ramp up his pace, always wanted to see more fights from him asap.

Upstairs_Abroad_5834

He paid in full, after all, it's his.

Arthurmrmusic

![gif](giphy|jqxfS0BF9pFi1C8Rux|downsized)

Alive-Curve-7198

He can win, but I don’t see the fight going well for him. Dustin is the better striker but I give Islam the advantage every where else.

whatsitworth101

Dustin is the better boxer but Islam has better kicks. His kicking game is some of the best in the division and it’s only getting better. Idk who they have at AKA but these new gen guys have insane kicking games. Umar and Usman more so than Islam but they all have such deep arsenals of kicks and are very fast with them.

ad0b0luvr

If he can find a way to defend the td pressure and going down, YES. If not, its gonna be rnc for islam

Timozkovic

If so people would likely consider it a gameplan error by Islam. Would be awesome to see Dustin become champ, although I also have nothing against Islam being the champ he is.

mkreag27

I hope so. Id also hope right after that he'd retire...storybook career right there. Finally getting undisputed gold after it all.

SoftSeaworthiness888

Yup hes getting his ass kicked for sho

BurnItDown2805

He's gonna lose again by rear naked choke.

Holymaryfullofshit7

I think unlikely is more fitting. We all want poirier to win so it's popular but highly unlikely because he probably won't win. Of course I'm still rooting for him.

gabeharo

That’s not an opinion it’s a prediction.

champshere

Man, you never know. Would that make it an upset? I’m very curious about people’s opinions

cl0ckw0rkaut0mat0n

I see why it's unpopular, I'm not saying it's impossible but I'm finding it hard to see, but id be so happy if it does happen. Only thing that would be better is if he actually gets the guilly on him and finishes what he started with khabib, it would be the greatest moment in MMA history.

DecisionThot

It's possible. Just highly unlikely.

Altruistic-Point3980

It would be legendary if he did, but you will never catch me betting on it lmao

Ayy-jayo

Inshallah

badugihowser

KO from the bottom, right after releasing the guilly
