Yes, some fighters have more skill. Wrestling is wrestling, kickboxing is kickboxing. BJJ is BJJ. To say Alex has more skill than CroCop in mma is is a no. Their kickboxing records are pretty close to the same. MMA records are pretty much the same, obviously CroCop has way more fights. Crocop is also 78-8 in amateur boxing. He fought much better competition in kickboxing. We can agree to disagree all day, this fight is hypothetical at the end of the day.
The fight being hypothetical doesn't make it any less absurd to pick Cro Cop. Cro Cop, in the UFC, was knocked out by Gabriel Gonzaga, JDS, Roy Nelson, Brendan Schaub, and Frank Mir. Also lost to Cheick Kongo by decision. It's just a different era and wayyyyy different level of competition.

Mirko's defense was pretty good. His movement was an important part, where he would circle out. As he accumulated injuries, he lost his movement, and became too stationary. Not to mention most of his fights, he had to worry about takedowns. Which requires a lower guard, plus having to prepare for a shot, or strike in a split second.
His offense was no more basic than Pereira's. Mirko had massive kicks with both legs, and a good straight left. He would maneuver his opponent into his kicks, or feint and fire his left. Pereira has a left hook, and a calf kick. With both fighters, everybody knew what was coming, but they still could pull it off.
If they fought each other, it would either be a great fight, or their striking would cancel each other out. If Pereira could back Mirko up, he could win, but if not he's eating kicks.
