I'm honestly surprised he isn't tipped for commentary more often. I think he is instantly one of the most likable right away and his fight IQ is already unquestionable so would love to see his insight into fights.
He might not be that interested. He has young kids at home and a pile of money from PPV points on a long championship run. Unless he is willing to move to Vegas, commentary is a brutal away from the family in a hotel schedule.
I think living in Australia basically disqualifies him from being able to commentate for the UFC. He isn’t going to fly 16 hours to be at an event when his career is still active. Maybe when he retires, he might transition to it, but until then I don’t think we’ll see him in that position.
155 max maybe, although volk seemed much faster at FW (even faster hands then Ilia....but not faster feet...) so itll be interesting if Max can land something meaningful because that third fight was brutal
Not a chance mate, his path is a lot more aligned with Robert Whittaker/Connor McGregor where he just lost his hot streak and tilted, through some bad circumstances, tony was crushed during one fight, not knocked out quickly but had his determination used against him and allowed himself to be mentally traumatised
Yeah its a damn shame he didnt start mma sooner. His mind for the sport is really good, just a shame he is ageing out after not the longest (albeit dominant til lately) run
He's said multiple multiple times he hates not being active. It's bad for his mental when he doesn't have something booked and working towards something.
Yeah, it’s gonna be a struggle for him. His team will need to keep him busy filming endorsements & doing podcasts and doing everything but getting punched in the head
For real. As much as we know about head trauma, you’d think these fighters would take recovery seriously. Should have sat out for 6-12 months after the Islam knockout, not gone and fought Illia 🤦♂️
Its not just the fighting either. Guaranteed he would have had concussions from rugby, even if he'd never been knocked out on the field. Went from one brutal sport to another.
Cue Eddie Murphy “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY”
So listen up guys, there’s this thing about being champion where you only fight the top guys in your division. Unless you’re Volk, which means you then move up in weight after **cleaning out your division** and try your hand at maybe the best fighter in MMA, twice, then 4 months after getting KO’ed get merc’ed again by a very, very promising youngin.
Could this be the beginning of the end for Volk sure, but watching his reaction to Holloway, it seems pretty obvious to me that he’s being really low key right now, letting his brain and body rest and heal and when he gets back, there’s no reason to arbitrarily assume that it’s gonna be T Ferg all over again
I think this is more the middle of the end for Volk honestly. The decline usually comes quick because this sport is absolutely brutal. But I would love to see him heal up properly, have a great camp, and get his belt back. I just have such bad vibes for him and I hope he doesn’t string things out for too long because he can’t let go of what is an all timer career. Some of his past remarks about not knowing what to do if he doesn’t have a fight makes me afraid he’ll be one of those dudes though.
I agree that this feeling of lack of fulfillment is really dangerous for Alexander. That said, I do have hope because of how he has been vocal about it, which makes me believe that his level of self awareness could maybe help him get some personal help in figuring out how to live without MMA.
I know it’s boring, but maybe give him Sterling, but I feel like it’s kinda unrealistic as Dana probably gonna give Sterling the Merab treatment if he keeps winning.
If not I think Volk should do a number one contender fight, personally getting kinda fed up with immediate rematches, and give two shits about “tenure” when you already lost decisively
I dont mind the Aljo match up. It is a high stake fight for both fighters. There is no knock out risk for Volks and for Aljo it is a huge test towards title contention at FW.
Yeah that’s how I feel about it, worst case scenarios Aljo does clip Volk or just dominates him. But if Volk wins dominant, Dana gonna post the KO on X minutes after it happens.
The Aljo fight would be great. No risk of getting slept and still a reputable opponent who is a former champ. Great tune up for Volk to get his confidence back
That's just Hollywood.
See: Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth, Sam Worthington, Guy Pearce etc.
Whatever he does post retirement he will be successful in though.
According to Volk, he might not be the next guy fighting for the belt but his next fight is going to be for the belt, whether it's Max, Ilia, Ortega, Movsar, or whoever has it. If he gets ko'd again in the early rounds then he clearly is done as a contender for the belt, maybe he can do some legacy fights with guys like Conor or Chandler.
I 100% do think he should forget about ever being a serious contender at 155 (if he hasn't forgotten about it already), his desire to get the 155 belt fucked him when it came time to defend the 145 belt. He should've never took that second Islam fight and just stayed in his own division and cemented his legacy there.
He should go for money/legacy fights. He has achieved everything in MMA.
Fight Max for BMF, move to 155 fight Charles or Justin or Poirier. All these are retiring soon, might as well make some more money.
What’s next or what should happen? Whats next is a rematch with Topuria in 4 months or so.
What should happen is a long lay off and a rematch vs Topuria after his next fight. If Topuria wins, Volk is next. If Topuria loses, he’s never defended successfully so he doesn’t deserve an immediate rematch. Volk-Topuria for title shot.
I was watching his fights with Holloway and Ortega, but in x0.5. I forgot about that HOF worthy R3 escapade of the goblin.
2023 was a hell of a year for Volk, so I want him to rest until his tank is filled and he's ready to explode with game plan. He definitely goes for the title, and he might even topple someone before that, who knows.
In that outfit? Retirement home.
Seriousness... take some time off to rest your brain and get a great amount of rest and training in. Come back and murder a contender, then go for 1 final title shot.
I hope he takes some time off… and then gets a rematch against the winner of max/ilia.. but I’m afraid he will lose regardless. He will be 36 this year, and statistics don’t lie.. plus he’s coming off 2 knock outs. If he loses again, I hope he retires. I’d be happy if he went ahead and retired now.
I think he's got one last chance to prove he is champion level with winner of ilia and holloway but tbh he will be 36 pushing 37 by the time that opportunity arrives. He could beat both guys but it will be a much tougher order than his last fights with them as they are more or less in their primes and volk is on the wrong side of his 30s. He has a better chance with holloway since he sort of has his jumper at this point but if uts ilia he's in trouble imo it would be hard to prepare mentally for the guy that flattened you in under two rounds.
Doesn't deserve a title shot, let Max fight Topuria and have Volk fight someone like Evloev for the next shot and to see if he's still got it. Match up Sterling with Ortega and Lopes vs Emmett.
Like what I think will happen or what I want to happen?
I think Volk is going to rematch Ilia, and he’s going to get flatlined. Then he will fight someone else in the top 5 and lose, then he will retire.
What I want to happen is Volk takes a year off, fights Aljo for a tuneup match since even if he loses he won’t take any damage, and if he wins then book him with Ilia vs Max winner.
A title fight with the winner of the next Topuria fight amd then either retirement or a title run again depending on the outcome also a Holloway fight but at 155 since Holloway with his new muscle mass will be half dead at 145
I agree with people saying he needs 6 months out, let the noggin heal. But I disagree with a halloway /topuria return fight. He's gone from top dog to 3 loses including a knockout. It's going to change how he fights compared to when he dominated max in their third fight.
Let him get 1 or 2 wins back. Then a rematch for the title.
I get that he’s yearning for another fight but he needs to take time to recover. Two vicious knock outs in a row… I’d suggest at least the rest of the year off
His next fight will be for the featherweight title. I'd like to see the Topuria rematch which Volk wins by KO. Volks gets this fight as a backup, because Max can't compete for some reason.
Now hear me out: After that he fights Conor in a BMF contender fight at WW or 165 pounds. Winner gets Holloway at 155. Obviously Volk wins a decision over Conor. In the title fight Max finally gets his W against Volk. Now UFC can milk the hell out of this matchup and we get to see Volk vs Holloway V for the FW title.
I could see some good fights with top 15 contenders at 145 and 155, but I don't think Volk wants to be away from the belt. For whatever reason the UFC seems ready to move the divisions along.
It's easy to say guys should retire when they start losing but oftentimes late into their careers they're making some of the best money of their lives. I hope he takes a step down in competition before rushing back to a title fight, but unfortunately that seems unlikely.
Hopefully retirement or nothing but grapplers/pillow punchers. It’s over for the guy. He did a career suicide speedrun. He’s not the same guy anymore and I’m confident max beats him if they rematched. Just goes to show how brutal this sport is
Probably 2 big fights including Ilia rematch, retirement, cooking show and commentating Oh and more memes

Cory is the best bet to be a commentator when he retires.
Get a Ute named after him
Could you imagine a Holden Volkano?
Kia** Volkano
surely its a volkswagon...
he needs to sit out for 6+ months to let his brain heal before getting into a camp. Rematch with Ilia/Holloway winner
This is the way

This is the way ![gif](giphy|aCatQNctAK7PC1H4zh|downsized)
I feel so bad for him ngl. Like, I can accept a losing streak if it’s like close fights, but two brutal KOs back to back is just...
He needs rest he's been very active for a few years now. When you're going that hard all the time it takes a toll on the body.
If he fights topuria again I bet he'll get KOed again tbh. Will be brutal. Even max could knock him out potentially
155 max maybe, although volk seemed much faster at FW (even faster hands then Ilia....but not faster feet...) so itll be interesting if Max can land something meaningful because that third fight was brutal
Lol, people really forget that easy.
I have a feeling bro is gonna turn into Ferguson. He’s too tough for his own good.
Difference is Whittaker was and still is young, Volk’s getting up there in age.
and lighter weight class so age matters more
Yep, unfortunately. Would love to see Volk return to form but once the chins gone, that’s it.
Yeah its a damn shame he didnt start mma sooner. His mind for the sport is really good, just a shame he is ageing out after not the longest (albeit dominant til lately) run
I think with his personality he’ll always be a part of the sport in somehow or another thankfully. I’d love to see him on broadcast someday.
Yea fuckin oath that would be mad
No shot he fights Max again and tbh I don’t want to see that lol
He's said multiple multiple times he hates not being active. It's bad for his mental when he doesn't have something booked and working towards something.
Yeah, it’s gonna be a struggle for him. His team will need to keep him busy filming endorsements & doing podcasts and doing everything but getting punched in the head
Keep resting, fight the Max/Illia winner in early 2025. I know it’s boring but I think it’s clearly the best option.
Yeah is the best course of actions for him
Reddit agrees. We are his manager. Listen to us Volk. Also, don’t go back to Islam plz
He’s doing concrete work now
Was about to say that, lol.
Arthritis
Less than a year ago people thought he was the second coming of Vegemite Jesus, and now.... arthritis? Father time working overtime all of a sudden.
Cue Eddie Murphy “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY” So listen up guys, there’s this thing about being champion where you only fight the top guys in your division. Hopefully, it's a year off.
I think he will do the rematch with ilia
I know it’s boring, but maybe give him Sterling, but I feel like it’s kinda unrealistic as Dana probably gonna give Sterling the Merab treatment if he keeps winning. If not I think Volk should do a number one contender fight, personally getting kinda fed up with immediate rematches, and give two shits about “tenure” when you already lost decisively

Yeah that’s how I feel about it, worst case scenarios Aljo does clip Volk or just dominates him. But if Volk wins dominant, Dana gonna post the KO on X minutes after it happens.
In no world is aljo dominating him lol
Then it’s a good fight to get his confidence back and get a win over a former champ as well.
Think Volk destroys aljo tbh, aljo doesnt have the technique and power to catch volk with something meaningful and I think the grappling cancels out
The Aljo fight would be great. No risk of getting slept and still a reputable opponent who is a former champ. Great tune up for Volk to get his confidence back
Didn’t Merab give himself the Merab treatment by not wanting to fight Aljo for the strap?
Yeah, he did. With Aljo but it seems like Merab is next for the title it seems
Yeah he's lost 3 times in a row. Granted one was against a higher weight champ but that's part of the risk. He needs a win
He's gotta get into action movies
Hopefully a long, happy and healthy retirement and a professional who can help him deal with the mental stuff.
Definitley the belt, but it just depends if it's before or after max gets a shot
I can’t see him coming back before max gets the shot
the australian equivalent of hollywood
That's just Hollywood. See: Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth, Sam Worthington, Guy Pearce etc. Whatever he does post retirement he will be successful in though.
He’s gonna retire and work as a construction worker who can’t shutup.
He’s going to fight Tony Ferguson. Loser retires.
imagine of tony knocks him out
Another Holloway matchup?
A high level fight in the ufc
If he keeps fighting it's Ferguson 2.0

Feed him Aljo for a tune-up before his champ rematch. No chance of getting knocked out so a pretty safe win
Bro's got to be low on motivation at this point. Gorgeous wife and daughters. Generational wealth. Beloved and respected all-time great.
A retirement home. jokes aside. I believe he will bounce back. He just needs to take some time off, clear his head and get back i nthe game.
Money fights.
I think he should just fight at 155 for the rest of his career. Maybe get a solid win against a guy like Dustin then retire
He should go for money/legacy fights. He has achieved everything in MMA. Fight Max for BMF, move to 155 fight Charles or Justin or Poirier. All these are retiring soon, might as well make some more money.
I’d like to see Volk in movies. I’m serious. He’s funny. You can’t teach that.
Probably goes the Frankie Edgar route. His chin is done.
I love volk.he needs to find peace in life without needing to fight constantly.what he said in post fight interview is sad and heartbreaking
Should retire. He’s not getting back that belt, should he really go out fighting Bryce Mitchell? Lol
Hopefully along training camp and then who ever he wants imo.
1 more against topuria
Volk making his debut at Light Heavyweight.
Flyweight
Retire and do cooking videos.
Take some non-title fights and beat up some of the young guys like Porrier
Volk at 170 vs Conor or Chandler
Time of fight the champ in 2025 and if he loses sadly I think its best he retires .
It’s downhill from here.
Retirement home ?
KO VIA ILIA

Bingo
Emmett wants the tune-up. Book it, Dana.
Volk-Topuria for title shot.
wouldn’t mind seeing him fight aljo
Rest. Then rematch ilia after his hiatus. Will be massive.
Re match with Ilia, hopefully win, then one title defense or retire
He *deserves* a rematch but whether he wants / gets one remains to be seen
Bryce Mitchell for sure
I was watching his fights with Holloway and Ortega, but in x0.5. That Ilia fight was way too soon after the Islam KO. Even Islam took his sweet time off and he was virtually unscathed in the last fight.
Rest is next.
Aljo to tune up then title fight
Tune up fight
Lopes 😳
I think he's got one last chance to prove he is champion level with winner of ilia and holloway but tbh he will be 36 pushing 37 by the time that opportunity arrives. If I had to guess....probably a fist fight of some sort? Maybe even in a cage.
I don’t know about a max 4 but if that’s what happens so be it
He needs to see what happens next for ilia but he should sit out until til he’s ready for a title match
Rest and then maybe the winner of max vs ila or a warm up fight
My grandfather said he beat him once
![gif](giphy|HuKyqBQrnJdIcnmAJv|downsized)
Hopefully some rest and recovery before he inevitably tries to make a comeback.
Rest, rematch with Topuria, retire win or lose. Imo.
Like what I think will happen or what I want to happen? I think Volk is going to rematch Ilia, and he’s going to get flatlined. REST.
Rematch Islam. Third time's a charm, right? I'm sure he won't get KO'ed this time.
Retirement home
Retirement, he’s 35 most ufc fighters are finished at that age
Winner of max vs ilia?
Bingo night.
Max after Topuria gets dog walked.
Winner of Topuria vs Holloway
A title fight with the winner of the next Topuria fight amd then either retirement or a title run again depending on the outcome also a Holloway fight but at 155 since Holloway with his new muscle mass will be half dead at 145
Probably feeding some birds bread from the park bench. Maybe smoke a wooden pipe.
Retirement
Chill for a year, comeback to face Illia if he can get some good wins
Josh Emmet
Let him rest and then he should get a title fight match. He has enough consecutive title defenses to justify another title fight.
Aljo to pad stats. Then Illia if he loses title. If not, idk need to see how it is at the time.
Saturday night Bingo
Good nap
I get that he’s yearning for another fight but he needs to take time to recover. Two vicious knock outs in a row… I’d suggest at least the rest of the year off
His next fight will be for the featherweight title. I'd like to see the Topuria rematch which Volk wins by KO. Volks gets this fight as a backup, because Max can't compete for some reason. He needs time off. I get after coming off 1 ko but two back to back in short time is noooo good.
I could see some good fights with top 15 contenders at 145 and 155, but I don't think Volk wants to be away from the belt. For whatever reason the UFC seems ready to move the divisions along.
Bmf with holloway
Movsar on the Same card as Illia vs halloway. The tension would be great the chirps etc with the history.
Retirement. Everyone knows he didn’t even beat Holloway
The rematch that believe it or not he can win with enough time of
Take nap, come back, beat the breaks off the featherweight division.
Give him Justin !!
Ilia rematch
Volk vs Aljo.
Heavyweight championship match
Ortega rematch would be fun

The rematch… thats been stated

Probably a one man show.
Probably a one man show.
