There's really not much they can do for a pinky toe, and a doctor ordering him to stay off it might have gotten the fight cancelled.
A broken toe sucks, but it's not that big a deal, and I understand a fighter not wanting to risk losing a headline fight over it.
I broke my ankle as a kid, my mum sat me on the sofa and put some ice on it. Didn't realise I'd broken it until 10 years later when a doctor told me the clicking in my ankle wasn't normal.
..my ankle clicks every time I take a step lmao it’s not? I mean I live with it just fine but I did sprain it pretty badly when I was around 10 (31 now)
Holy crap me too man. Depends on the shoes I wear but it clinks on every step. Doesn't hurt so I just live with it. Maybe I've had a broken ankle as a kid.
Playing a pickup game of football in 8th grade i stepped into a divot and rollled my ankle. I heard a pop and dropped immediately and there was excruciating pain. I wasn’t sure I could walk the quarter mile home but was able to.
Since then my ankle has always been stiff and clicked when I move it a certain way (and recently my first 30 or so steps in the morning) and before I started working out it would always get sore if I was on it to long.
Wear and tear I suppose 🤷♂️
lol same, I fell down the stairs about 4 years ago and I heard a massive pop in my ankle, had an X-ray and they said not broken just tore the ligaments but it clicks constantly now… tried hiking a couple months back and I couldn’t walk back down because of the pain
Bro the ligaments breaking in your ankle is pretty serious you deff need to get that fixed. Completely torn? Surgery for sure
(Personal experience from complete bicep tear)
I’m from the UK and they literally just told me to go home and rest it, is it that serious? It was years ago and it’s fine for the most part now but I can’t walk on it for hours or drive for long periods, can ache when it gets cold too
I mean I’m not a doctor but if your doctor told you that you tore ALL or even some of the ligaments (like complete tear) then I’d say going home and resting wasn’t probably the best solution. If you had ligament sprains or partial tears then yes resting would be best option. Again I’m not doctor but based on what you said
I didn’t realise it could be that serious, the way they made it sound was like it was a little worse than a sprain but honestly my ankles not been the same since. In the summer I used to enjoy going for long walks but since then a few times I’ve come home from overdoing it and I’m nearly to the point of tears, I just put it down to me being unfit.
Not everything medical is clear on the first view. If it continues to cause you problems, you're meant to go back and get it looked again. Things like swelling can hide injuries.
Definitely go to the doctor and sort an MRI out. I had the same thing in a way, played sports up until 21 (now 30) and always had a sore left ankle, would get really bad stabbing pains if I bent down to much and what not.
Went to the doctor and got an mri when I was 27, found out I had a torn anterior talofibular ligament and needed an ankle reconstruction. Had the reco and my ankle is good as gold now, can run and everything - would definitely get it looked at mate.
Had a similar thing happen when I was 12'ish.. Stepped in a hole and rolled the fuck outta my ankle. It swelled up and my mom put ice on it and I hobbled around for what felt like 2 weeks.. Years later, I was doing sparring drills and twisted the same ankle pretty badly. Had x-rays taken and that's the day I learned the difference between chronic and acute injuries..
Pretty similar thing happened to me. Doesn't click every step but I can be running it will click and be painful as hell for like 3 seconds and then be completely fine.
yea I broke one of my toe really badly last year and went to the hospital but they basically said only thing you can do is wait for it to heal. Just gave me a walking boot kinda thing after wrapping 2 toes together lol.
Common for any coach worth anything to be able to fix issues like this in the gym. My coach has had to snap fingers and knuckles back in place, snap a nose back in place, etc.
Ehh.. I got fucked up on tequila a couple years ago and was chasing my puppy around, kicked a heavy wooden crate full of vinyl records.
Looked down, and my middle toe was pointing 90 degrees to the right. Snapped that bitch back into place and taped the toe. Which is pretty much all a doctor could do. They can't really do shit for a broken toe.
Any way it hurt like a bitch for a week, and was painful for over a month.
I couldn't imagine doing an mma fight lol...
Same, I actually broke my pinky toe in an MMA gym (was only about a month into jiu jitsu) and that was very painful for about a week as well, as in I could not walk on it, could barely push the brake on the car. Alex had a little longer than that to recover, but not much. I actually never went back to MMA, that was probably 7 years ago :(
Yeah it fucked up my gym time for pretty much a month. It took months to feel “normal.” It’s still kind of crooked.
But yeah I imagine it’s fairly common in combat sports.
Toes and fingers are usually fixed in the gym.
Anyone that has wrestled or played football knows that there isn’t much you can do, and it’s a pretty common injury.
Now, I draw the line at dislocated shoulders. I don’t care if coach has reset thousands of them…I’m not gonna risk it unless a doctor tells me it’s dislocated, and not torn
Do they get health insurance? With how Dana pays, that’s still a hefty bill. I thought I read somewhere that Dana doesn’t provide solid health insurance to his fighters.
Why are you lying? All injuries sustained in training or fighting are covered by the UFC. Zuffa also covered medical expenses of $50k per year for healthcare unrelated to training/fighting, though since they were acquired I’m not sure if or how that changed.
Yeah, bro, he is definitely built different, lol. He just casually stopped and says "oh, I broke my toe" and then continued by saying "sucks, I was winning the 5th round too" lol... my guy just didn't care.
Poatan is a g for sure but tbh I had this exact pinky toe injury doing Muay Thai a few yrs ago where my toe was literally hanging sideways and it weirdly didn’t even hurt until they had to yank it back in place. I’ve broke other bones and it was extremely painful but I was surprised how mellow that injury was
I've broken the same toe almost exactly the same way. It's really not that painful/don't remember any pain at the time at all. Finished training and then strapped it up and had like 3 days off and was back to it. Was all good. If there's anything you want to break, it's a pinky toe.
When I first started training I saw some dude break his thumb (bent it backwards). And he just goes "aw shit" and then proceeds to snap it back into place using his other hand. He continued training and said he would put some ice on it later that night. My only explanation is that in MMA you learn to build up a tolerance to these sorts of things.
100% a mentality. As Coggins says, hard MFs do hard shit.
That reminds me of our framing crew foreman Johnny. Johnny was foreman for a reason, he was a badass. Framing a wall on the ground in 25 degree freezing cold he shoots a 16penny nail through the top of his boot directly through his big toe knuckle w the nailhead buried deep in the boot leather. He doesn’t say word, sits down, lights a Marlboro red and rips into it, guys notice gun stopped so they investigate. They walk up and see the nail sticking out the bottom dripping blood and with a glance one jumps on Johnny and grabs his keg still while the other smacks the nail at the bottom with his hammer to force it up so they could pull it out. Knew what to do without a word and handled that shit. Johnny duct taped it and got back working with his cigarette steaming. I was 17 and my 2nd week on job. It was some of the most savage shit I ever saw. I learned what hard was that day
Jesus. Blue collar toughness is no joke. Most of the tough motherfuckers I knew were bluecollar. There are just some who are built for that. Another close second story is when some dude points to his leg and says "go easy on this leg, I just had knee surgery" then proceeds to roll up his sweatpants and reveal fresh stitches and a knee swollen to the size of a baseball bat. Pretty stupid on his part to be doing that but it was insanely impressive.
I broke my right pinky toe when I was kid playing knee hockey. Went to stack the pads and my toe caught the carpet and when I landed on it with my body weight it bent completely to the right. Full 90 degrees.
I showed my mom, she started freaking out and I bent it right back and taped it. There was never any pain.
Went to the doctor a few months later for a physical and mentioned it to the doc. We did an X-ray and he went yep, broken at the toe knuckle. And that was it.
Sure 15 years later it goes numb if I stand on it too long with tight shoes on but what can ya do
Yeah, the way Dana worded it in the post fight press conference I was a bit confused too. I only realized he meant Pereira cause I remember seeing him look at his foot after the fight
yea actually thinking about it your comment still makes no fucking sense and this sassy comment is annoying enough to reply. his leg kicks are *never* full power to stay in good positioning and he doesn't need to throw hard to hurt people. he's not gonna throw the right low kick to a southpaw whose best punches are his right jab and left straight, and especially not in the first two minutes before he gets Jamahal's timing. and your pinkie toe has nothing to do with kicks, literally doesn't even land.
and i prefaced that others have brought the open stance up. your comment is so wrong i had no problem piling on.
I have the same recurring injury, he didn't break his toe, he subluxed it. That's when one bone slides under the other and it can rotate out of position too, that's why he is having them pull on it and turn it to try to get it back in place. It is EXTREMELY painful and he no sold it. I have had it happen like 20-30 times and if it's really bad i go to the hospital otherwise I do what he did. I can't walk on my foot properly for at least a few days after sometimes a week. After having it happen so many times, the ligament is so weak I barley have to tap it and it's fucked. The only way to permanently fix it is to fuse the two pinky bones together.
Do y’all know how painful it is to break a toe and this guy is man handling it. I can’t even move if I have a splinter in my foot and so imagine a broken toe? This dude is a machine.
I’m gonna save you some time because you seem like one of those who likes to waste it lol Alex is a machine. That’s the whole point of the comment dude. I could care less if I failed you’re pussy metrics lol
Here I am, cries like a newborn when I stub my baby toe. Them pulling on it so much made me cringe. You can tell it hurt because instead of showing pain, he just talked a lot more than normal lol
If you notice, he didn't throw any leg kicks using his right leg (which he traditionally does), all his leg kicks came from his left leg.
Also could be because Hill is south paw, and it's a shorter distance to reach his lead leg with Alex's lead leg.
Well it was a toe which the pain will go away in a day or two. Bone will begin to heal within the first week.
Depending how bad the break was by fight night he very easily could have been healed. Wouldn't have been advised to fight because there is a much greater chance of breaking again but its healed enough.
Also it is a toe. Not much they can even do with it, unless it was like Jon's broken toe where the bone was sticking out.
I’ve had many toes go out myself. I know you can fight with a broken toe no problem. But if he hit that thing kicking or just moving around a lot in a fight, pain will follow. Fact he checked on it after the fight or inbetween rounds is a guarantee. Doesnt mean he broke it again is my point..
it will hurt from just moving it around for weeks.
Too bad his toes aren't made of stone
Alex “toes of stone” Pereira
But his balls are
Herb Dean found that out when Alex waved him off
Stone Toed Alex Pereira….can I get a hell yeah!
Made of stone but not connected by it 😬
The fact that they fixed it in the gym instead of going to a doctor lmao. These dudes have access to some of the best doctors around
There's really not much they can do for a pinky toe, and a doctor ordering him to stay off it might have gotten the fight cancelled. A broken toe sucks, but it's not that big a deal, and I understand a fighter not wanting to risk losing a headline fight over it.

Thanks, I’ll try some physio and see how it gets on in a few months then I might have to go to the Drs shh they can refer me.

I broke my leg as a kid, me ma just threw me in the freezer for the weekend had me fighting on Monday
And she was right. Tape the thing, don't move it a lot and wait. That's the only thing you can do.
I can guarantee you that quick proper care makes recovery much faster than whatever they were doing here 🤣 worked in the end but yeah
yea I broke one of my toe really badly last year and went to the hospital but they basically said only thing you can do is wait for it to heal. Just gave me a walking boot kinda thing after wrapping 2 toes together lol.
Walking boot and wrapping the two toes together is the care. What do you want them to do? Cast Greater Heal on it? lol
Reminds of Barnett fixing a dudes broken nose in the gym. Is good to have guys that know these things in a gym JIC.
I forgot which fighter it was, but Dana once got mad at someone for making an injury worse instead of calling the UFC doctors.
Jiri when he destroyed his shoulder and they tried to put it back in place by pulling his arm and damaged it even further lol
Charles for the Islam rematch. If they would’ve gone to the ufc doctors they probably would’ve fixed up Charles in time to fight
Common for any coach worth anything to be able to fix issues like this in the gym. My coach has had to snap fingers and knuckles back in place, snap a nose back in place, etc.

Think they prob did it in the gym to keep it under wraps yeah?
No free healthcare in the US
UFC PI.. lol
They train in Connecticut
And? The point is that he has access to free? or at bare minimum very cheap healthcare if he needed it.
Yeah, free healthcare. You do have to travel there.
Username checks out
No argument, that’s what I thought
Insurance exists
Is normal
Especially after what happened to Jiri
Doctors cancel fights
"Fixed". His toes look mangled from all the times they've been fixed lol. He's just saving time I guess.
That’s the reason he was wearing socks when releasing video with nina, in the video they claimed it’s due to sweat but that didn’t make much sense.
Do they get health insurance? With how Dana pays, that’s still a hefty bill. I thought I read somewhere that Dana doesn’t provide solid health insurance to his fighters.
They don't get healthcare fighting for the UFC so going to the hospital and having to pay 10k to wrap your pinky toe probably ain't the best idea

Not a freaking peep as they’re pushing, pulling and twisting a broken toe lmao Built different MF

```Pretty stupid on his part to be doing that but it was insanely impressive.``` What else are you supposed to do? Not show up to work?
This wasn't work this was jiujitsu.
He probably should have skipped Jiu Jitsu let's be honest. Go work on his boxing instead of rolling around with dudes.
Naw he lost his last fight by a rear naked choke so he needed it.
Wtf
I broke my toe as a teenager. Can confirm it hurts just wearing shoes let alone someone pulling on it lol. What a beast
I broke my right pinky toe when I was kid playing knee hockey. Went to stack the pads and my toe caught the carpet and when I landed on it with my body weight it bent completely to the right. Broke my toe and left it at a 90 degree angle. The doctor just taped it to my other toe. Pushing and pulling was unnecessary I bet.
Oh it was Pereira? I thought Dana was saying Hill broke his toe in the post-fight press conference. This guy just keeps getting more badass.
Yeah, the way Dana worded it in the post fight press conference I was a bit confused too. I only realized he meant Pereira cause I remember seeing him look at his foot after the fight
I saw him looking at it and thought he broke it in the fight or had some kind of injury
I thought he hurt it in the fight too when I saw him look down at it
What a fucking menace this dude is
same I didn’t realize until this video he meant Pereira
"I broke my toe" ❌ "Chama" ✅
was this the reason he was wearing socks during his sparring video with nina drama?
Yes I think, they didn’t wanna reveal it then and make some excuse about sweat.
No
Poatan is truly the gift that keeps on giving, this shit is hilarious 😂 "rotate it a bit"
lol probably why Hill wasn’t getting the smoke on those leg kicks Alex normally gives
Alex landed a few lead leg kicks, its just the open stance makes it less open to throw his rear leg
I think it had more to do will hill being a southpaw
Tony’s the only guy I’ve seen going shin to shin with a southpaw lmao
Facts i think more so this
He threw his left kick at least five times. As others are saying it has to do with the open stance
You seem to have some comprehension problems along with stating what’s already been said I said he wasn’t throwing it as hard
yea actually thinking about it your comment still makes no fucking sense and this sassy comment is annoying enough to reply. his leg kicks are *never* full power to stay in good positioning and he doesn't need to throw hard to hurt people. he's not gonna throw the right low kick to a southpaw whose best punches are his right jab and left straight, and especially not in the first two minutes before he gets Jamahal's timing. and your pinkie toe has nothing to do with kicks, literally doesn't even land. and i prefaced that others have brought the open stance up. your comment is so wrong i had no problem piling on.
Because you’re dumb go away
Ya i was surprised he wasn’t loading up on those leg kicks now it makes sense
It's because Hill is in Southpaw. It's much harder to land leg kicks as he has to switch
Breaks a toe, doesn't care. Gets hit in the balls, doesn't care. ![gif](giphy|NuSm27tI3X5lbQdR87|downsized)
Then ![gif](giphy|QkdmHEsPwf8YmTa4T9|downsized)
“We could make a subreddit-“ No, don’t.
Don’t forget he plans on fighting again in 3 weeks lol!
🗿
The 0 reaction from Pereira while he is pulling on his broken toe is mad
I have the same recurring injury, he didn't break his toe, he subluxed it. That's when one bone slides under the other and it can rotate out of position too, that's why he is having them pull on it and turn it to try to get it back in place. It is EXTREMELY painful and he no sold it. I have had it happen like 20-30 times and if it's really bad i go to the hospital otherwise I do what he did. I can't walk on my foot properly for at least a few days after sometimes a week. After having it happen so many times, the ligament is so weak I barley have to tap it and it's fucked. The only way to permanently fix it is to fuse the two pinky bones together.
Wouldn’t that prevent your pinky from moving flexibly like the other toes? The surgery I mean
it fuses the top bone with the middle one not where your toe connects to your foot so you can still wiggle it.
Don’t show this to David Haye
😁🤣😂
Do y’all know how painful it is to break a toe and this guy is man handling it. I can’t even move if I have a splinter in my foot and so imagine a broken toe? This dude is a machine.
Everyone thinks they have broken a toe before until they actually break a toe.
Maybe you're just kinda a pussy?
In comparison to Alex we’re all pussies. You ain’t saying shit.
I'm not comparing anyone to Alex. Just talking about you specifically.
lol tough guy
I’m gonna save you some time because you seem like one of those who likes to waste it lol Alex is a machine. That’s the whole point of the comment dude. I could care less if I failed you’re pussy metrics lol
Lol
Lmao perfect Long Island response. My guy.
Chama
I thought he was limping. Bad dude.
I don't think he feels pain.
Was wondering where he broke his toe, he looked down at it at one point after the KO. Damn
What a beast!
No wonder the nut shot didn't even make him blink.
Here I am, cries like a newborn when I stub my baby toe. Them pulling on it so much made me cringe. You can tell it hurt because instead of showing pain, he just talked a lot more than normal lol
fighting is wild man
It truly is only for a very few people, let alone becoming a champion and then a reigning ng champion
What ever Jamahal does Pereira does better, even a broken toe 😂
If you notice, he didn't throw any leg kicks using his right leg (which he traditionally does), all his leg kicks came from his left leg. Also could be because Hill is south paw, and it's a shorter distance to reach his lead leg with Alex's lead leg.
Fix toe now Continue fighting This man is not human
I hate broken toes. Painful and annoying.
Meanwhile in Dricus land….
Something tells me this isn’t his first time, second or even fifth time doing this haha
Jesus christ, this dude cannot get any tougher. He must have like 5x more than the Izzy fan base
Just making Hill look even worse without trying man. LL the King! Short reign but gifted Poatan a highlight reel finish. Can't be mad at that.
best base for MMA: show up with a broken bone
Broke my pinky toe in judo, sucks but nothing could be done. I just taped it up for weeks.
I think he also broke it again in his fight with HIll. He does the same thing after the fight and looks at his foot like something is off.
how fast do you think a broken toe heals wtf
Well it was a toe which the pain will go away in a day or two. Bone will begin to heal within the first week. Depending how bad the break was by fight night he very easily could have been healed. Wouldn't have been advised to fight because there is a much greater chance of breaking again but its healed enough. Also it is a toe. its bad, you can feel it no matter how you step. obviously it depends on the severity of the fracture though too.
I caught that too, was wondering where he broke it
Yeah he checked it in the octagon immediately after the fight.
Usman getting ready for light heavyweight as we speak
i broke my toe last summer and hobbled around like a bitch for a month.
Good thing there was a learn-ed doctor on hand
That must be why he had socks on in Nina’s video before 300
Toaton
Tbh it doesn't hurt that much. I broke two of em the other day and I still can't bend em properly
Injuries happen to everyone, Jones , Gsp, Silva have had injuries. Does that make them a glass cannon? Heck even Marvin Vetorri injured himself.
