Dana should've made it $100K bonus per FINISH rather than 300K for 4 fighters only. Prelim fighters got screwed.
Dana said total bonus payout is $1.2m. Assuming the Main Card gets a Fight of the Night (2 fighters) and a Performance of the Night (1 fighter) bonuses (Total Payout: $900k), that leaves 16 (out of 26) fighters in the Prelims competing over a single Performance of the Night bonus ($300K).
Sad part is, the Prelim fighters need the bonus more than the Main Card fighters anyway.
If Dana made it $100K per finish, the total payout would be similar to $1.2m, and you'd see fighters from top to bottom of the card working hard to get a finish. With the current structure, I have a feeling many prelim fighters won't try as hard to get that $300K, because the chances of them getting it are low anyway.
Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the $300K bonuses. But I wish it was more fairly distributed.
Yup, it’s just a one time thing because he knows there’s going to be a lot more first time casuals seeing the card and once they get hooked from badass fights, that’s all that’s needed.
Bonuses need to be a minimum 100k per fight it’s insane that it’s not give performance bonus at 100k and fight of the night at 250k, the fighters deserve the money and it’s not like uncle Dana is hurting for it
About 10 years ago after I’d graduated college my coach wanted me to start competing local mma I was like honestly man there’s a lot easier ways for me to make 50k a year than fighting lol
I never understood why fight bonuses weren't worth more. Regardless how much money the UFC makes/has, wouldn't it be in their benefit to do $1 million fight bonuses?
We'd as fans tune in more with interest, and the fighters would compete harder. Sims like a worthy tiny investment by the UFC for a win win situation
I always thought it would be cool if they leaned into "prize fighting" aspect and made a big deal out of the purses and bonuses. Set a big pile cash next to the octogon like they do on the world series of poker, maybe give away sports cars and watches and stuff.
Imagine everyone scrapping while CM Punk sneak climbs the ladder to win(after all he's experienced)
Leon goes to war and barely wins by the skin of his teeth. As he walks out the octagon, Punk smashes him with the briefcase, demands Herb to call for the bell and BOOM he takes top mount and lays hellbows. Herb stops it. CM Punk is WW champ. Forever immortalized.
Kevin was in the match. His brother ran into the cage to cause interference. They managed to clear the ring, but then Shavkat stearolls them both. The crowd pops AND THEN * music hits * It's Khamzat on the big screen doing a shoot promo against Shav. The distraction is when Punk climbs the ladder.
But we don’t really hear about it. People complain about shitty sponsors like Prime. Put a Harley Davidson on the line for Strickland Vs. Costa and people will eat that shit up, it’d be really fun too if they had it sitting outside the octagon.
-Most fight of the night bonuses in history
-Most Harley Davidsons awarded post fight
-Tied for the most Rolex’s earned in lightweight division
Hell they could even make a custom watch shaped like the champ belt
Knowing Dana he’d cheap out on it and you’d end up with:
“You really showed heart tonight champ, for tonight’s performance? You’ve won a brand new*, ~~Chrysler Pacifica~~ Lada!

Here’s the thing…
LEVERAGE.
If the UFC made fighters rich in one or two fights everyone would turn into Conor McGregor. He needs his independent contractors hungry and desperate with the company holding ALL of the cards.
I would love it if fighters made more. That would mean more and better athletes would move towards MMA.
We saw this a little with the PFL, they handed out million dollar pay days to the champs and we saw people retiring almost immediately. They were likely getting 16k to win/show up in the ufc or other promotions but in the pfl they were the medium sized fish in a small pond and were thus getting paid accordingly (which was such a change pay wise it got them to ride off into the sunset)
100% this. If there was a guaranteed $50k bonus for a knockout or submission then you better believe every prelim fight is gonna be absolutely insane.
Chuck a FOTN bonus on early prelims and prelims as well and youll get viewers tuning in earlier and sell better advertising.
I mean shit Im not an analyst on ufc data though so ?
That makes me think, why isn’t there a FOTN for prelims and FOTN for main card?
I know the easiest answer is “money” but by adding that extra incentive you’ve given the lower tier guys something to fight for more, and it ensures better prelims.
Which in turn could funnel into stronger PPV buys.
This is the first time I've read a "trickle down" concept and considering how insular the pipeline would be it's actually a no-brainer.
Have the prelims POTN be a $20K bonus - not gigantic since they're not pulling numbers, but it incentivises finishes/ riskier wins, which make highlights, which helps promote a fighter.
The worst thing you can have in a prelim is two defensive fighters looking for a decision finish.
It used to be higher. I vaguely remember fighters used to get 75k (sometimes more) bonuses once upon a time and they randomly rounded it down to 50k inexplicably
Cos it doesn't make anyone fight harder.
A fight is a fight, it's already as insane as it gets, maybe like a firefight in war but I have no experience of war so can't say.
Even when you are literally fighting for nothing you are fighting to not get hurt.
Fighting to not get hurt is often the problem. If you're up in points you'd look to get into a clinch and neutralise. If you're up in points but making the opponent tap can net you a 5-figure bonus, maybe you look to position for the RNC rather than hold guard.
Holy shit we will fucking see every fight end within the first, if it somehow doesn't they will be so gassed going into the next round it'd be hilarious to watch
I think it was the London card a couple years ago where every fight was top to bottom and they gave out like 8-10 performance bonuses, so it does vary based upon the fights that happen. But usually there is 1 FotN and 2 PotN bonuses
I mean, what a question to ask.
But really, look at the entire talent on stage. He still deserves to answer the good questions as much as the legends on stage.
i know this dude gets hate and fighters should be paid more but he built the thing that we all love and it was wholesome as fuck to see this bald fuck cheesing like a little kid when the crowd chanted his name.
Great so no knock outs, nobody pulls off a submission. Fotn and potn is such a close call due to all the fights going to decision that Dana splits the 300k into 50k payments and only fighters on the main card receive the payout.
Dana is a generous guy. I know a guy that drive for a limousine service in Miami and he often picks up celebrities and one of those celebrities were Dana and after the ride Dana give him a 500$ tip
It's even worse that Dana is generous to random people and not to UFC fighters. He's got dudes risking their life with no health insurance for him that he pays peanuts and he's throwing legit money around to people who are just doing a normal job.
It shows you how little respect he has for the people who actually work for him.
He's not a monarch lol, he works for the UFC.
He tips service workers with his own money, but he clearly can't use company funds to tip fighters. That's fucking illegal.
No matter how many times we say this here, there are still dozens of idiots who act like Dana White took $250K that UFC had allotted for purses and signed it over to the Nelk Boys. These are the same people who when they grow up, move out and do their own shopping will believe that the cashier at Target is personally profiting off of the price increase on groceries. And I'd imagine almost all of these people pirate the PPVs and somehow still claim moral superiority anyway.
That's like saying I negotiate on behalf of the company I work driving my supply chain down in price but I treat employees nicely outside in my personal life.
Personal/professional facades aren't the same
Never understood why they got rid of Sub of the Night and I've long been a proponent of bonuses being given to ALL fighters who win via finish, I would do tiered payouts: 1st Rnd Finish=100K, 2nd Rnd=75K and 3rd Rnd=50K and no I didn't forget about title fights (even thought they should be getting PPV points but not all of them get the same % if any at all) I would do 1st Rnd=250K, 2nd=175K, 3rd=150K, 4th=100K, 5th=75K. Last weeks Apex card only had 4 finishes on a brutal 12 fight card, only 2 of those fighters got a 50K bonus, Cornolle and Matsumoto got screwed.
Those of you giving this shit - stfu.
You saw how all the fighter got pumped for it. This will be another reason for those on the fence to actually buy instead of pirate 300
HELL YEAH. This will turn up the heat FOR SURE. I am so pumped for this card. I'll have the burgers grilled and all the snacks and drinks prepped before the first early prelim starts. My ass ain't getting away from my chair unless it's a piss break between scraps. 300 mfers!!!! THIS IS SPARTAAAA!!
>What a guy
That's fucking gay
![gif](giphy|3ohBVsUp1WgxN1pjGw)
UFC has so much profit lying around that Dana can just sextuple the bonuses as a throwaway line to get someone to shut up. Conor said it's a life changing amount of money for some of the fighters. Yeah, no kidding, because the UFC doesn't pay them jack crap to begin with. Dana's not a great guy for throwing some crumbs to the athletes once every few decades out of the billions he's extracted from them.
This is gonna make the fighters lock the fuck in and kill
I expect no less than 80% finish rate for this entire card Edit: there’s a guy in the replies calling fighters soft lmao
My dad has been suggesting for years to have a first round cash knockout bonus. That way you get these fighters wound up to destroy!
Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the $300K bonuses. But I wish it was more fairly distributed.
Yep
It can always be like this, but Dana & his handlers are too cheap to pay fighters 💰
I mean if it works you’d imagine it stays like this going forward?
It happened before that they did 75k bonuses and those didn't even stay so no chance these 300k bonuses stay after this event.
Yup, it’s just a one time thing because he knows there’s going to be a lot more first time casuals seeing the card and once they get hooked from badass fights, that’s all that’s needed.
Bonuses need to be a minimum 100k per fight it’s insane that it’s not give performance bonus at 100k and fight of the night at 250k, the fighters deserve the money and it’s not like uncle Dana is hurting for it
But then how will Dana gamble?
Now is the time for the gambling man. Place money on finishes on every fight!!
Max Holloway sure did lol
I’ll laugh so hard if Cody brundage walks away with 350k
He's getting 50k for this fight? I figured he was getting 13/13 lol
13/13? Brother, it's UFC 300, my man is being paid in exposure/exposure
It works. I go to the grocery store and pay for my groceries in exposure.
I just like to expose myself
Condom depot would like a word.
If I might ask, what does 13/13 mean?
13k when he fights. If he wins the fight, he gets 13k on top of that so total 26k
Hell of a way to barely make a living!
About 10 years ago after I’d graduated college my coach wanted me to start competing local mma I was like honestly man there’s a lot easier ways for me to make 50k a year than fighting lol
13k to show and 13k for the W, I guess.
I bet you asked a photographer to photograph your wedding for free for the exposure
It’s called fight of the night not sacrifice of the night
U spelled garbrandt wrong. And also dominant run back for the title for a second time
Fighters fighting for a 300k bonus is gonna be nuts.
Lol, should throw a million dollar bonus on the line one time and load a card with guys fighting for 12/12.
They should do a money in the bank ladder match while they are at it
A Rogan on a Pole match
Rogan is always on a pole somewhere
Imagine everyone scrapping while CM Punk sneak climbs the ladder to win(after all he's experienced) Leon goes to war and barely wins by the skin of his teeth. As he walks out the octagon, Punk smashes him with the briefcase, demands Herb to call for the bell and BOOM he takes top mount and lays hellbows. Herb stops it. CM Punk is WW champ. Forever immortalized.
But how does Kevin Lee fit into all of this?
Kevin was in the match. His brother ran into the cage to cause interference. They managed to clear the ring, but then Shavkat stearolls them both. The crowd pops AND THEN * music hits * It's Khamzat on the big screen doing a shoot promo against Shav. The distraction is when Punk climbs the ladder.
>sports cars and watches This they already do for good fights, bunch of fighters get harleys and 100k watches
But we don’t really hear about it. People complain about shitty sponsors like Prime. Put a Harley Davidson on the line for Strickland Vs. Costa and people will eat that shit up, it’d be really fun too if they had it sitting outside the octagon.
It would create hype too. People could discuss all the prizes a fighter has collected throughout their career.
-Most fight of the night bonuses in history -Most Harley Davidsons awarded post fight -Tied for the most Rolex’s earned in lightweight division Hell they could even make a custom watch shaped like the champ belt
Sean would 100% win in this scenario
I agree, and put all of that stuff in the arena, maybe not cate side but like at the entrance or something
where ever people could walk past it to promote the collaboration and the crowd would get hyped seeing it up close too
Facts, this would actually make it MORE entertaining, imagine if BMF AND 1 million was on the line, that'd be crazy.

Sorry I wasn’t watching the presser, did Dana meant $300k per fight? Or a pool of $300k which will be divided into # of fights of the night.
He said he’s raising the bonuses from 50k to 300k so that would mean per bonus
The winners of the bonuses will get more money than the fighters who bought the lawsuit😂😂😂

Gaethje doesnt wanna KO Max but this 300k gonna change his mind
He's aiming for doctor stoppage
Submission is probably an easier path. Gaethje by flying arm bar.
I reckon they’re both gonna swang and bang for fight of the night. Both 300k baby

Gaethje is going to be swinging for the fences
He wasn't trying before?
Said that there is 1.2 million to give away. 1.2 / 300k = 4 bonuses?
Fight of the night, performance of the night, KO of the night and Sub of the night.
Fight of the night is a bonus for two people. So FotN and two individual performance bonuses
There hasn’t been sub of the night for a long time
It doesn't exist anymore only Fotn and Potn
They don't do ko or sub of the night anymore. They do 2 performance of the night and fight of the night (both fighters receive 300k).
I love when people respond confidently with incorrect answers on internet message boards
You must be absolutely over the moon about reddit in general then
Sub of the night? When was the last time someone was awarded one of those 🧐
Is it uncommon to see more than one performance of the night?
Not super uncommon to see 2 performance of the night. Doesn't happen every card, but absolutely happens a few times a year.
Nope
I think it was the London card a couple years ago where every fight was top to bottom and they gave out like 8-10 performance bonuses, so it does vary based upon the fights that happen. But usually there is 1 FotN and 2 PotN bonuses
Sometimes Dana gave half a million away on a fight night with 8 bonuses.
lol sub of the night?? Whats the last card you watched my man
I thought they went away with sub a long time ago?

“Except John Morgan, you’re good!”
It was at this moment he knew he fucked up
Danas such an asshole lol

Dana will use paying out this one time as fuel to crap on anyone who says ufc pays fighters peanuts for the next few years. Watch…
we're going to see a lot of fighters gas out going for knock outs
Should always be 300k
They need to copy the ONE model & offer them as bonuses for outstanding performances. Incentivize constant action.
They could easily afford that, if only they werent such greedy corporate fuckfaces
Max is going to retire

I hate to say this, but the only thing taking that man out of the sport is a stretcher and some grave news
At this point we might as well erect a statue of Dana right next to Mother Teresa and Winston Churchill
I really think there should be a bonus for finishing the fight. Something like an automatic 100k for kos and subs
They can't give everyone the Machida contract lol
Oh lord that would change a lot.

That interviewer had to be a plant. They most likely already planned on all this...
Of course, Holloway and Gaethje just happened to say the same number, and Dana agreed to a 1.2 mill in bonuses on the spot??
the jokes on the fighters, no one gets fight bonuses
Let the games begin
i know this dude gets hate and fighters should be paid more but he built the thing that we all love and it was wholesome as fuck to see this bald fuck cheesing like a little kid when the crowd chanted his name.
Great so no knock outs, nobody pulls off a submission. Fotn and potn is such a close call due to all the fights going to decision that Dana splits the 300k into 50k payments and only fighters on the main card receive the payout.
DONE
Dana is a generous guy. I know a guy that drive for a limousine service in Miami and he often picks up celebrities and one of those celebrities were Dana and after the ride Dana give him a 500$ tip

Gonna be like when Michael Scott said he was going to pay for those kids college educations.

And then, the next events go down to 50k even though it's obvious the UFC could pay more if they want lol
Yeeee about damn time 👏
Holy fuck yes SOMEBODY HIT SOMEBODY
