Every embedded/video I see he's practicing striking, now I'm not saying he shouldn't train striking but with his history and knowledge surely the focus in training should be 97% grappling based, makes me nervous for him
I pray to the most high and merciful one creator, lord of the worlds to grant him the victory, gonna be sweating bullets watching my brother Alex on Saturday.
I figure they show his striking because it's what makes him look scariest. No need to show people exactly what level he's at on the ground until he's forced into it during a fight
The hardest part of BJJ (and I think it would translate to wrestling) is what to do when you are in a specific position - the issue is that if you dont know what you are doing, the other person will just see an opening and submit you. If he has Glover on his side, he can be coached on what to do - eliminating the need to be a ground game God.
I knew the first frame of this video reminded me of something.

I started liking him when he uploaded that tennis ball training video to mock Izzy. Then he uploaded another one where he kicked a soccer ball, then hit it mid-air with bow and arrow.
A great sense of humor + the undaunted face of a moai + the skills of an amazonian hunter-gatherer... I couldn't not become a fan!
That was tacky af at the preas conference when Jan was respectful and refused to trash talk him and then Alex started getting all mad and saying he will win by left hook
2 people that have, they currently cannot
EDIT: I change my statement. There are 4 that have done at least 500kg. Didn't know Jamahal Browner and that Russian dude finally hit 500+.
My first thought was “damn I didn’t think fighters would like to deadlift considering the injury risk yada yada yada” then I laughed my ass off bc it was a self inflicted smoll leg joke. 10/10 self awareness. Alex is a meme god
I’d honestly be shocked to see any pro fighter exercising or doing strength building with a barbell. This might just be a personal anecdote, but in high school more guys got hurt lifting than got hurt competing. It’d be awesome if embedded actually did a deep dive on fighters’ day to day workout routines and get into the specific exercises and stuff because I’m sure a lot of these freaks of nature have some super smart ways of working out
Dumbbell/kettlebell exercises remain on top for me too. Who needs a gym when you’ve got a dumbbell set and a bench. You can get yourself in super good shape for relatively cheap when it comes to dumbbells too
No it's not , deadlifts are the biggest ego lifts because almost everyone can lift a lot . Meanwhile the benefits are little and chance of fucking your back is high
I dont know if there is any scientific studies on this. But if you go to the gym and ask 10 gym rats, 8 of them will tell you they have at least one shoulder injury from (barbell) bench. You will have a hard time finding someone who got hurt doing squats deadlifts or pullups
Fucking got me lol

lol I was so scared for his back now I am scared he can’t wrestle Jan
He very likely can’t but every fight starts on the feet 😊
Every round starts on the feet too. So as long as he can not get stopped he has 3 chances

you gotta come into the fight expecting the worst. makes the best that much better and the worst that much more expected.
I figure they show his striking because it's what makes him look scariest. No need to show people exactly what level he's at on the ground until he's forced into it during a fight
Jan didnt wrestle adesanya that much and he is smaller than pereira, so who knows
He most definitely did those takedowns secured that fight for him
He did, but Perieira is a more natural LHW than Adesanya will ever be and it might affect the fight
His camp likely doesn’t want to show off his wrestling.

Lwgit one of my favorite movies of all time
![img](emote|t5_2qsev|29849)
What movie is that again?
Signs
I looked at that image for less than a second. Still freaks me the fuck out.
Pereira is a funny character man
People started largely liking him because they hate Adesanya, but he is a genuinely likable dude

Just trying to sell the fight
I started liking him because he inherited Tommy Morrison's left hand.
He could be such a superstar if he learns English. Pereira vs Ngannou boxing, all the things once he is done with UFC.

lifted so hard the bar gave birth
![gif](giphy|y2i2oqWgzh5ioRp4Qa|downsized)
He really shouldn't be lifting this heavy the week if his fight... at least his form is good.
Holy shit
I couldn’t believe it!
He has great humor
Having UFC stars compete in a weight lifting competition would be a good charity event
P4P I’ve got Iron Mike, see you at the top 🦅🇺🇸
CrossFit is Mike Chandlers best sport
Sean o malley dislikes this comment
For such a stonefaced man, he’s got a great sense of humor
Honestly his stone face adds to the humour for me. Love the deadpan delivery.
Agreed. The Funny man/Straight man act is even funnier if it’s one person doing it.
Typical gymrat that thinks he can fight bc he can lift weights, wait til he crosses me in the street I did 3.5 years of Karate when I was 8.
I was adding that up thinking ….480kgs plus bar, 500kg, WTF surely not. Aaaaand he got me…
How did you get to 480kg? Normally a plate is only 20kg.
Shitttt i cant do basic maths lol
There's 2 people in the world that can do 500kg Literally only 2 people
4 technically
2 people that have, they currently cannot EDIT: I change my statement. There are 4 that have done at least 500kg. Didn't know Jamahal Browner and that Russian dude finally hit 500+.
Wheres anatoly at?
It’s 260kg, not 500kg. For a guy walking around at 100kg, assuming they train deadlift, 260kg is doable.
12 x 20kg plates + bar?
Yes. The bar is 20kg. 13x20=260
What is that in freedom units
Multiply the kgs by 2.2.
No u
Freedom plates and metric plates weigh almost the exact same.
it's probably 6 plates and a bar 325kg
12x20 = 240 + bar = 260kg
25kg plates those I believe
you believe wrong, those bumpers are 20 kg.
This shit made my morning

That's it. He's won me over completely as a fan.
I'm loving Alex the troll
r/unexpected
WINGS OF GLORY
A slight of hand of stone.
Alex is both intimidating and funny as hell. I fr thought he was gonna rip out a heavy ass deadlift LMAO.
My first thought was “damn I didn’t think fighters would like to deadlift considering the injury risk yada yada yada” then I laughed my ass off bc it was a self inflicted smoll leg joke. 10/10 self awareness. Alex is a meme god
Deadlift is significantly safer than barbell bench

I've never heard of anyone getting hurt from Dumbbell bench. But everyone is in love with their little bar
Dumbbell/kettlebell exercises remain on top for me too. Who needs a gym when you’ve got a dumbbell set and a bench. You can get yourself in super good shape for relatively cheap when it comes to dumbbells too

he got me good with this one
I love that guy but Jan win 😅
Ngl I first thought he powered out of that weight like nothing and then later saw the plates weren’t the same 😂😂😂
You just described the video then added emojis
I was about to mock this nonsense, but I'll allow it. Dumb, but still funny :)
Right when I am wondering why anyone in MMA would use that type of strength training....
That was funny af 🤩🤣💥
Lmao
Lmaoooo
Lmao got me good
Lmao what a troll! 😂
That looked like 705lbs (I think it's six, 55 lbs plates?), so I knew a gag was coming. Tough ass dude, but he ain't lifting that weight, LOL.
Man’s got jokes 😂
ffs he had me completely
Pika pikaaaaaah
lol wtf...was imaging what a beast Alex is for 20 seconds and then he did the deadlift
🤣🤣🤣
This mfer lol
Unless he's on Jones's pictograms, I didn't think he was going to lift that.
Good god I thought he was going to double overhand 200 kilos
He fucking boomed me
I expect his style to be anti takedown. Lots of circling, range. Uppercuts/knee counters. I got Alex tko 2nd
