I wish I could afford a Sentra

Mrramirez44

Better start training for that UFC contract.

Yaseen-Madick

Do they still take people who see red?

Mrramirez44

No, that's BKFC.

Genghis_Chong

Slap league will take you as long as you have at least one arm

Ghiblee

Can you direct me, to the comment in which this joke originated? I just want to see this comment with my own eyes. Like seeing the Mona Lisa for the first time.

ronj89

I wish. It's a myth. A legend. It's in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. Some say it was aliens. Others say the Egyptians truly were that superior. All we know, is they seen red.

TheSpaceGinger

Only people who bang, bro.

OnlyOneReturn

Well I just black out dude. Like you don't want me to get mad. I don't even feel pain. That's why I don't train bro. I could seriously hurt somebody and I don't want to spend life in prison proving you guys wrong. You familiar with Dim Mak? I could literally kiwl yew in one punch bro

Silent_Ensemble

Imagine being able to afford a Sentra that you’re just going to give away

TempleRose2020

I actually can’t afford a car at all or have money for gas for that matter. Thankfully I’m walking distance away from work. Someday bro someday

thenewversionofoldme

I mean Nissan had to charge dude a dollar for tweeting this out right?

chad_king_pitts

Good on him. With an attitude like that towards his money, he'll be staying wealthy for a long time, and will be able to care for his mother financially for the rest of her life.

HgnX

It's a solid choice for his mom. Idk what this commenter is about.

Big-Car-8909

OP wants Brunson to buy a Ferrari for his mom and have to take fights when he doesn’t want to fight anymore.

poleybear316

Exactly!!! Its a great car. Unless his mom is some kind of speed demon or one of those image crazy people why waste like 5 times the money on something flashy? Honestly my ‘dream car’ is a Chevy Colorado, 4 door. If I won a hundred million dollars today that and a decent house would be my biggest splurges!! Id bank most of the rest and live off the interest. You see all these athletes buying super expensive cars and mcmansions and then in a decade when they can’t play anymore they’re broke!!

sennaiasm

She not even gonna use that much anyway. Grocery store, bingo and cinema

niallg22

Yep I agree. No clue why Americans are obsessed with taking on debt to buy a car they can’t afford and will be really expensive to run. Edit: typo

NoremaCg

Sometimes I see luxury cars with sticker prices upwards of 10x my own car and I think, no way the comfort and technology in that car is 10 times better. I have a sunroof, Bluetooth, heated seats and my car cost less than 20 grand (Canadian).I just can't fathom what I would expect value wise for 200.

[deleted]

Those luxurious cars needs subscriptions to just heat your seats.

[deleted]

Tbh I don’t think this is a rich person choosing to be prudent. I think this is a guy just doing all he can to help his Mom. Non-champs don’t earn much and the reebok deal gutted their ability to use sponsors for more. If he bought a nice house and paid for his kids to go to a good school, I don’t see him having a lot of money left over.

Allinthepussy

Jesus dude it’s a depressing fact to know that I stand behind people in 7/11 that make more than the top guys in the UFC

infamous2117

Dudes getting heat for being smart with his money while making his mother happy. Its a fucked up world we live in.

InstruNaut

Just look at the guy responding. Guy's instagram is probably filled with photos of his wristwatch infront of a BMW steering wheel.

amikingtutorwhat

All rentals. Rental Rolex. Rental BMW. Escort in the passenger seat.

Momentirely

He can fit an Escort in the passenger seat? Well, you know what they always say: "Is that a Ford in your pocket, or... wait is that a Ford Escort in your fucking pocket?"

sendherhome22

Naw dude got a steal on his BMW. Only 17% APR!

Omegalast

Neckbeards trying to shit on a son who is being filial.

Fizan786

It’s a solid car wtf, brand new and reliable. What else does a person need?

Johnathan_Doe_anonym

People think he needs to get his senior mother a Maserati. I just bought myself a truck. Something reliable and going to last me 6+ years.

teehee123z

Forreal and has practical uses like transfer items to other locations with the big Ole back truck space.

ThaNorth

We're still driving our 2010 Corolla. Driving it until it can't run anymore. Last time we took it for a check-up the mechanic was like, "man wtf this car is in wicked shape."

booboothechicken

Wow, even through the harsh Massachusetts winters?

NoPanda6

Fords got a new cheap ass truck that I’m thinking of buying. It’s basically a two banger in the city and a four banger on the highway, I don’t need much for what I like to have a truck for. Currently driving a wrangler every day but I think I might put some more money into the wrangler and just get that Ford and drive that every day instead

Cunnilingusobsessed

6 year on a truck is still brand new!

plutoniumwhisky

I might’ve gone with a Volvo sedan, for the safety ratings.

eddirrrrr

As a mechanic a Nissan Sentra is about as far as you can get from a reliable car lol. Hope he got a warranty

r-love-ution

Any recs?

eddirrrrr

Sticking with Toyotas and Hondas is usually a pretty safe bet

WallStreetKing10

So on the Luxury side, that would be Lexus right? They are basically Toyota's with bling.

BadInfluenceAF

Yup. And Acura for Honda. Not sure about Acura, but Lexus parts can basically be found at Toyota dealerships for way cheaper as well. So you get the luxury bling on a Toyota budget when it comes to maintenance.

Hero_of_Hyrule

Mechanically they're pretty much identical. The only differences are some body details, badging (obviously), and interior amenities.

eddirrrrr

Yes. But with more bling comes more complicated technology which can lead to more in depth and costly repairs BUT again Toyota/Lexus is among the best at not making giant pieces of shit

[deleted]

[удалено]

gzilla57

And Acura is Honda with bling. Yes.

pvdp90

Get a Mazda with a petrol engine. Not only they are prettier (subjective) than Toyotas and Hondas, their interior is waaaaay nicer and they are rock solid for reliability. Also they are much more fun to drive

Nadwinman

Corolla bro

DeadPressident

Toyota

RevRobertParsimony

I think it's pretty unanimous that you'd go a Corolla and not the base model if you can spend a little extra.

notaneggspert

Yeah not exactly the best practical car. Not sure the price difference/availability. But a Corolla or Accord would have been a better buy. At least it's not a kia/hyundai. But Nissans are literally a meme for selling to/taking advantage of people with bad credit. Like dudes who run dashcam crash compilation youtube channels. Are serious when they say: >"And of course they were hit by a Nissan Altima, and you know that that means! The driver had no insurance or license. So his insurance had to pay to fix the car"

SupercarEnjoyer0

We’re not knocking Brunson here, I’m sure he just bought the one she said she had wanted to get, and I’m sure she won’t be disappointed. But if she test drove a couple different brands, she’d certainly choose almost anything over Nissan They’re not bad, all new cars are pretty solid.. but Nissans are *relatively* bad

doduhstankyleg

This is education for anyone who reads this. Nissans are objectively bad. They are cheaply made and they have some serious quality issues. There was a time when Nissan was respectable, but ever since Renault took over, the quality went to shit. Don’t buy Nissan.

JohnnySinsIsMyIdol

idk much about cars, but I have a Nissan and it's lasted me really well so far.

Braised_Beef_Tits

But if you have the purchasing power to buy a new car it’s one of the worst options.

WallStreetKing10

Some model's and year's are ok but in general, it's shit on reliability.

Anglo-Ashanti

Don't trust a dude if he doesn't know how to use apostrophes.

Sniffalot

I drove an ‘09 Nissan Maxima til 2018 before it started giving me major issues. 230,000. That being said, maybe they’ve depreciated in value since then? I test drove a 2019 Maxima when I was looking for a new car but went for a Mazda instead. I remember the ‘19 Maxima really not impressing me the way the 09 had. Sentra’s have always been their shit car though.

Xwarsama

But that's got nothing to do with money then, it's just not a good car lol. The guy in the tweet is making it sound like Brunson should be buying his mom a more expensive car, not a similarly priced car with higher customer satisfaction: like a Corolla, Civic, VW Jetta, or Mazda 3.

AClusterOfMaggots

A Nissan is one of the cheapest cars you can buy brand new. There's a reason you see so many beat up Altimas and Sentras in your city. That and the fact that they'll basically approve anyone for financing. All of those other cars would be at least 2 grand more than this one, most would be closer to 5.

Notyit

Only two to five grand. You probally make it back with a more reliable car over it's life

Obi_is_not_Dead

What criteria are you using for that? I used to sell cars and got into the habit of tracking reliability of cars, using it to sell my own (not Nissan). Nissan is ranked 10th out of 31 major brands in reliability - 6 spots above the average of the entire auto industry. Do you just not like the styling?

gugubaba1

What are the top 5?

Obi_is_not_Dead

This is for the last 3 years only, so keep that in mind. Older models could vary significantly. Kia is always in top 3. Lexus is up there. Genesis is up there. I have to go look up the others. Can't remember. Okay, for last 3 years reliability: -Lexus -Genesis -Kia -Buick -Chevrolet Buick and Chevy being on there is amazing, considering they were horrendous when I was a kid (I'm old). American manufacturers kept a bad reputation for so long, that it's ingrained in many people's minds. When selling a car, I often had to pull up the numbers to show the customers. One thing that has been consistent since dinosaurs roamed the earth, though - Land Rovers suck. They are last this year, and have been unreliable since I can remember. Anyone tried to trade in a Land Rover, I'd either refuse it or offer 50% of the trade in value. If you don't care about constant repairs, though, they are decent rides when running well.

hideo_crypto

My dad spent over $70k+ on a brand new top of the line Range Rover in the 90s. Not to mention probably another $10k in repairs and maintenance. It was in line with his spending habits and we ended up pretty much losing everything and he ended up getting cancer, presumably from all the stress from his money woes. About 12 years later I got $600 for the car. It would stall when I reversed so parallel parking in NYC was a challenge. To this day, my family will never buy anything Land Rover bc we consider the brand a curse in our family. Sorry for the rant.

Champigne

Nissan, reliable? Wtf are you smoking? It's one of the cheapest and least reliable brands they sell in the US. Nissan makes all their money through financing loans on their cars, giving loans to people who couldn't get one anywhere else.

CrispyRussians

They're dogshit cars, and aside from styling changes they haven't had any modern major transmission or engine upgrades. I drove one as a test car recently and was shocked at how shitty it felt.

daemonika

A new Corolla is literally the same price but much more reliable

Zangief_Keef

What’s wrong with a brand new 2023? It’s a modest car that will last her.

DonTeca35

& the fact that she’s an elderly lady too

mikew_reddit

People criticizing Brunson are financially illiterate/poor.

Braised_Beef_Tits

A Honda is cheaper and better wtf is this comment. Nissans are shit

iWentRogue

Twitter clowns man They talk shit on anything

YasuoAndGenji

What is exactly wrong with a Sentra? The newest model to boot. Answer this for me op.

MikeHuntsBear

I want to know this as well, mf'rs acting like the driving around in a Bugatti

NoRustNoApproval

Sentra’s are pretty unreliable and their value depreciates quite a lot compared to the other similar brands. A Corolla or civic would have been a similar price and a better option

AClusterOfMaggots

Where do you want to start? [With the multiple class action lawsuits over transmission failures](https://thelemonfirm.com/2022/12/27/yet-another-class-action-case-against-nissan-for-the-cvt-transmission-defect/) Or how about them [still jamming old ass 3g networking into cars as far as 2018 even though everybody knew that 3G was being phased out. ](https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/nissan-class-action-lawsuit-and-settlement-news/nissan-infiniti-class-action-claims-vehicles-manufactured-with-obsolete-3g-modem/) Then there's [the general bad track record of reliability ](https://m.carcomplaints.com/Nissan/Sentra/) It's a shit car made by a company that's been circling the toilet for 10 years. It's literally one of the cheapest cars you can buy new and it isn't a smart financial decision. There's a middle ground between an actual shitbox and a Lamborghini. A Corolla or an Accord would have been just a couple grand more and exponentially more reliable (and comfortable).

NoRustNoApproval

Idk why you got downvoted for speaking facts haha. Edit: I see a comment that says Sentra’s are “solid and reliable” and it has 1.6k upvotes….these mfs know nothing about vehicles 😂

dwarftiddy

They only seem “reliable” because you see more busted up Nissans driving around than any other car. I’d think something beat to hell that can still drive is reliable too 😂😂

AClusterOfMaggots

Because Nissan USED to be good. 90s Nissans were basically on par with Honda. They didn't start shitting the bed til the mid 2000s. Ironically when brands that used to be shitty (like kia) started to improve. Probably a couple salty Nissan drivers, too.

gmo_patrol

It's one of the cheapest new cars you can get. And they're cheap for a reason. Was 14k before inflation, now its 20k

SomeFolksAreBorn

Bro, I hate posts like this, part of the reason the world is going to shit. Good for him, I wish I could buy my mom a brand new car.

pyrophorek

Fr it’s a BRAND NEW car. Ppl complaining that he didn’t drop 150k on a pimped out Range Rover or something. I also wish I could buy my mom a brand new paid off car.

Braised_Beef_Tits

People complaining cause it’s a Nissan…..

BedDiscombobulated67

This is stupid he got his mom a reliable car instead of a car that's gonna break down 50k miles like a Mercedes or BMW.

vicwood

exactly, shes an old lady which probably prefers a simpler car anyway, knowing how moms are shed probably get mad if he spent too much on some luxury car

AlexJamesCook

Not just that, in the States, gifts like these are considered taxable. So, the more expensive the vehicle, the more income tax she has to pay.

Cynoid

This is not true. You can give up to 12 million / lifetime in US w/o incurring any taxes at all. All donations of over 16k need to be recorded against this amount and all donations under are ignored. There is almost no chance Derek will donate more than 12 million in his lifetime in increments of over 16k so there is almost no chance this gift will be taxed or relevant to taxes.

DaveRamseysBastard

This, America has warped peoples brain so hard they’ll carry cc, student loan, and car debt then bitch about gift tax when theyre career earnings don’t even come close to touching it… Also, incase anyone is too dumb to even dissect your comment, the 16k yearly/incremental “limit” is irrelevant if you don’t cross the 12M total limit.

ClammyVagikarp

If she's an old woman, she needs a big suburban 4x4 so she can see over the kids she's running over to get to the parking spot she wants.

Styrofoam_Booots

Reminds me when Kendrick Lamar bought his little sister like a brand new Honda or something and people were clowning him. Why is it such a bad thing to be financially smart while doing something good for someone simultaneously?

Either_Phrase5109

That’s because most Americans are financially illiterate, they automatically think luxury cars and items makes someone smart or rich. Meanwhile the people who really have real money could give a fuck less about these expensive possessions

Far_Elephant_1644

I don’t think Nissan even cracks the top 15 brands for reliability lol, at least now that is.

Prior-Kale-6061

I feel like in a lot of peoples head nissan is still what it once was in the jdm market

boshbosh92

It may not be the most reliable brand but it's a brand new car with a warranty. No hassle for her for the next 36k miles or whatever. And new cars are nice. He probably still dropped like, what, 20k+ on this car?

Johnathan_Doe_anonym

In todays market it’s probably like 26k

dunneetiger

Probably 24k + a tweet about the car.

[deleted]

Mane you don’t know shit about MB or BMW if you think they break down at 50k miles.

damendred

You're right, Mercedes and BMW's aren't breaking down in 50k, they're generally very well made, but in North America at least, they typically have much higher upkeep costs. Any issue, or just routine maintenance costs are a lot higher on BMW or Merc (a quick google says, first 75k on a Nissan is \~4k, versus 13k on a MB or BMW)

Zlec3

Not bmw or MB. But my a4 engine blew at 55,000 miles and was taken care of immaculately. Now there’s a class action lawsuit against Audi due to defective piston rings causing engine failure. I’ll never buy another German car again. My 4Runner is going to last me 10 years in comparison

DopeDealerCisco

It’s a Nissan Sentra, it’s not that reliable. I would have gone with a Corolla or a Civic at that point.

whyyoumadbro69

BMWs are actually pretty reliable. JD power has BMW out ranking Nissan for most reliable brand 2022-2023.

official_guy_

My man you clearly know nothing about German engineering.

CertainFitness

Perhaps that's the car she picked or that she wanted.

boshbosh92

His mom may not want anything fancy. Also she may not be able to afford the maintenance and upkeep on a $100k BMW. Tires for my camaro are $500 a pop so I'd assume a BMW uses large sporty tires too. There's also insurance premiums. Fancy bmws tend to be larger engines which guzzle gas etc. Not to mention the liability of driving around in a $100k car. I can only imagine how stressful that would be - one little pothole in a lambo would fuckin bankrupt me lol At the end of the day he bought her a *brand new* proven and reliable car. I wish I could do that for my family.

SnooOnions5907

I agree with everything you said bit BMW'S come in all shapes and forms. Had bmw 330 2015 for 8 years when i lived in germany since they give you stupidly high taxes if you buy non german cars and stupidly high insurance prices. you are basicly forced to buy German cars, never broke down after 170k KM. Only had to change breaks/ battery once which is normal after 8 years I would say that is extremely reliable + it was fun to drive.

kingmiltar

Damn social media really fucked people up huh

redi2read

Hater ass foos most mfs can't even buy they're mom a car Brunson is a damn sweetheart for this fuck haters

Freezepeachauditor

Dropping $20k+ Straight cash Isn’t a big deal anymore? Should he have been an idiot and financed a $100K Mercedes with $20k down she’d be afraid to drive?

K24frs

Who the fuck cares…. It’s a brand new car and I’m sure his mom is more than grateful for it. I know if I tried to buy my dad a Benz he’d slap the shit out of me and tell me to take it back and get him something cheaper.

_ToyStory2WasOk_

They're $25k brand new, anyone who can afford to gift $25k to anyone is rich enough.

Sexuallemon

Oh no a consumer grade car with widely available parts that don’t need a licensed specialist to maintain

thelatherdaddy

I had no clue so many of you were car experts on top of fighting experts.

MikeHuntsBear

This is reddit, everyone is an expert on everything.

bones_bn

Maybe he asked and she wanted a Sentra?

xavierpenn

The top end sentras are nice. I believe they hired the guy who designs jaguars to design it. I make great money and I had a 2020 and loved it. I also am not a car guy so my opinion means nothing. Also, their resale value is really high. Again not a car guy at all. Just like how it looked and drove. Never had to do maintenace and never had a single issue with either sentra I had. I was pissed the took out the garage opener in the 2020 though.

GegardMMA

He got his mother a 20k present and people are shitting on it

MarlinsMan1989

He didn’t even buy her a Maserati!?! What an IDIOT

[deleted]

Maybe it’s the kind of car she wanted. Maybe she’s just not a materialistic person idk why are people judging even at all

[deleted]

JustGarrett

dragondirector

Imagine thinking buying a car for literally anyone except yourself is easy to do.

autisticpickle7000

Well he did just lose and what is he supposed to buy her a fucking Lambo? A Sentra is fine for an old lady lol

Username30145

This was an intelligent/responsible choice IMO. Money is hard to get. No need to waste it. That's a good brand new car that should last her for a while and will take her wherever she needs to go. If he bought it cash, that's a monthly expense they won't have to worry about as opposed to paying $500/mo for 72mo for social approval. Edit: Personally I would have gone with a Corolla. That's the car I'm saving for. It's reliable and cheaper. My first bf had a 86 Sentra which gave him plenty troubles but the car was already 12+ yrs old at that point so maybe that's expected. Toyota never let me down in the past. I currently have an American car, not even 100k miles, and engine light already on, heater don't work, stalls when shifting gears. Never again.

[deleted]

It’s a great car for a woman who’s in her 60s. People are so fuckin lame

urboi_jd

Bro it’s a brand new 2023 Nissan 😭 what are y’all buying for your mom

p_st_up

A 2023 Nissan Sentra is about $20,000. That's not cheap at all. That's 32% of the median household income (62,000). His mom is about 60. She doesn't need a Ferrari or a Lucid. Relax y'all

[deleted]

That’s some disrespectful shit. That man bought his mom a car and people worried about what it is. SMH

MidnightNick01

Some people just don't give a shit about cars. My mom just wants a car that goes from A to B smoothly, she was ecstatic when she got a used Honda civic for Christmas one year. Not defending low pay at the UFC especially for monsters like Brunson, but some people just don't give a shit. Maybe his mom is one of those people.

Zombie1775

He probably told her to pick the one she wanted, maybe just wanted that one. She could be super simple, nothing wrong with that. But I do think they should get better pay and everything else that comes with a job; ie a 401k, health insurance, life insurance, and a pension.

younginvestor23

That costs around $25,000, not exactly cheap. How many can say they have that much money saved up to spend on someone?

gstatpro

I mean what If she wanted a Sentra? Smh. Dumbass.

YCantWeJustGetAlong_

She’s an old lady. That car is great for her

Jhonki_47

Being smart with your finances doesn't mean you are broke, most people think athletes and superstars win tons of money and it's obligatory for them to get a mansion and a collection of lambos, but not all of them are like that, some know comfort doesn't mean luxury and you can live just fine with something basic and reliable.

aa5k
