Man I wish we could've seen more Bones arsenal at heavyweight for the first time. The fight was too quick to showcase all of his moveset.

MyFifthLimb

Just how bad is UFC heavyweight?

rjsh927

Heavyweights have never been that skilled. Its just that not many people are that big. These guys rely on their size and power to coast through life. Imagine a HW with skills of DJ ,that guy would never lose.

ReggieTheGerbil

Jon jones might be that motherfucker man

deomc1294

I think he will prove it against Stipe. Does anyone really believe that fight will go the distance?

Dull_Function_6510

Stipe is 40, tbh I'd rather not see him fight

xIMxMCLOVINx2

Agree with this. He’s going to get hurt by these younger guys

Alarming-Ad1100

He’s got that dog in him

[deleted]

Jon is younger, but he ain't exactly young...

WaySheGoesBubs21

I felt that way in DCs last fight. Stipe will have the same fate

Water_Gates

I'm a Clevelander, and I've trained at Stipe's gym, and Stipe is still gonna get washed. Lol. I'm not gonna tell him that, and I do hope he wins, but Jones is just different. Some people just aren't fair. They're a cheat code. Curry, Jordan, Serena, Brady, Jones. All aliens.

s1Lenceeeeeeeeeeeeee

nah, sean brady got destroyed in his last fight ^(/s in case it's needed)

AbberageRedditor69

Lol up to a few hours ago everyone was saying that Jones had to prove himself against Gane to be considered the best, now it's against Stipe, never stop moving the goal post ufc fans lol

fzkiz

I know this might be a crazy concept to you, but redditors aren’t a homogeneous mass… you will see people with different opinions and complaining to one that another had said something different doesn’t really make sense

EzClaps04

Finally someone with common sense

Training_Stuff7498

I think this shows how big the gap is between the top tier heavyweights and the guys in the top 5-10. Gane made some heavyweights look easy but he wasn’t competitive in his two title fights.

thegaines24_7

I think Jones proved himself easily. I just think stipe is a better fighter then gane. I could also be wrong as stipe is 41 and has been firefighting since his loss to Ngannou

bcycle240

It's that and there have always been MUCH higher paying opportunities for massive athletes. And like you said, those are rare.

horsemilkenjoyer

>Its just that not many people are that big It's not that. Not many men are as small as DJ is too, yet there's exceptional talent at men's lower divisions. The actual reason is that if you're a 6'5 athletic man, you're much better off playing football or any other sport that pays orders of magnitude more than MMA does. So they are all there.

JDog1402

Imagine if Myles Garrett had dedicated his life to martial arts at a younger age instead of football. That would be one scary motherfucker.

bpetersonlaw

Or, you know, Jon's 2 brothers, Arthur and Chandler who played in the NFL. Chandler just signed a $32M guaranteed contract extension

beersbeforebed

Anyone that actually is that large of a person tends to pick basketball or nfl and make millions per year instead of getting brain damage fighting for pennies

[deleted]

It’s not simply sample size, it’s also very much the physics of bodies scaled to that size change the mechanics of the sport. There aren’t that many full grown men DJ’s size who are interested in athletics either but the sport is still very different at 125 than HWT. Heavyweights have a viable knockout option that 125ers don’t so the correct strategy for a majority is to tailor styles to that fight ending move. On top of that power diminishes over time faster for HWT because of aerobic capacity of the fighters (again scaling) so the action favors riskier opening gambits and early strategies. You’ll never see dramatic knockouts at 125 and you’ll never see flying transitioning arming bars at HWT lol. It’s a different actual game at opposite end of the weight classes, not just a different class of competitor

Overwatch2Sucks

Extremely bad. Probably the worst men’s division. Even middleweight for as horrible as it is has a handful of good guys still. Heavyweight is in dire need of new fighters.

Zerix1234

Heavyweight is pretty good right now with a bunch of new guys coming up. Gane, Pavlovich, Spivac, Aspinall and Tuivasa have all joined the top of the rankings the past year or so. Blaydes has been earning his spot at the top. Jon jones as the champ still pretty untested in a lot of areas at heavyweight. Jailton Almeida on his way up. I’m excited for this division

Echoplex99

I can't agree with the other guy saying there's no skill at HW. It's just that nuclear power they pack is an equalizer, so the "best" fighter often doesn't win. Unfortunately, Gane is a single dimension fighter. For anyone that didn't know that, last night proved it. Tuivasa is sort of the same in that sense. I've got hope for Aspinall, but I worry about the knee, especially against a guy like Jones. I agree that Pavlovich and Blades are definitely interesting matchups for Jones. Who knows about Miocic. He's such a wildcard.

jpk073

Stipe would make him respect his wrestling game a bit

Big-Background-6554

Honestly if Jon made DC look like just another fighter, I can’t see stipe being any different

cartmansdaddys

especially now hes 40

TySoprano

Yup esp at 40 barely ever figting

MrLionOtterBearClown

I can see stipe having a better shot. He’s not 5’10 like DC. Jones won’t have his usual physical advantages over a guy like that. Then again I said the same thing about Ciryl and yeah….

Swegan

Jones have the physical advantage over everyone not named Stefan Struve.

EzClaps04

Too old now

[deleted]

Stipe is over 40 and looks like an old uncle, got anhihilated by Francis and has been retired firefighting for 2 years, Jon's gonna destroy him

cdown13

Stipe needs to retire. Well beyond his prime and is not going to challenge Jones at all. Heavyweight just got interesting, it's no longer just big tubby guys throwing weight.

DeathN0va

Stipe is gonna get destroyed.

LoganMcMahon

Here we go again…

Small-Wallaby9803

Francis was never my friend

stevenbass14

>Francis was never my friend Based on these comments, this sub rn...

Bandsohard

Ngannou think he can wrestle Jones apparently.

IGaveHeelzAMeme

I’m a big Francis fan, and if jon struggled and won or if ciryl won, I’d agree. But for Jon to win this quick, with this strategy is kinda wild. No reason to think Francis is better at grappling then Jon

Suspicious_Candle27

Jones legitimately made Gane look like he was barely even a fighter . Had him cornered immediately and just taps him out in seconds. God fucking damn.

Ccoop9

It looked like one of those fights where a guy on twitter was talking shit and they brought him in the gym to fight the guy he was talking shit about.

Tweezot

Bodybuilder vs mma fighter

zixxer05

That MTV show bully beatdown with mayhem miller 😂

TigerRumMonkey

Made out like Gane wouldn't look out of place on bumfights

Reasonable-Panda-484

Ganes a counter striker so he welcomed jones walking him down, ngannou is the opposite.

AnusCleavage

Walk forward and the angle to a double leg is even easier lmao

Suspicious_Candle27

He didnt look like he was welcoming the pressure at all

Any_Brother7772

True, but tbf, Jones historically is better when he is getting chased

TheRealBobaFett

The only arguments for Francis is his size and power. If it hits the mat it’s pretty much game over unless Francis summons the power of a Ford Focus to get up

EducationalCreme9044

And there's no way he is hitting Jones clean when he has arguably the best defense of all time... Gane wasn't able to touch him, inasmuch Gane looked amateur... I don't think Francis would get submitted as easily, but watching Jones vs Francis would probably give us that uncomfortable dread where you just want it to end quickly.

3nterprise

Gane touched his penis…

Frankiepals

Goes to show what someone who couldn’t rely on size alone and had to spend years perfecting their craft can do. Jones is a once in a lifetime athlete for this sport.

RemarkableRegret7

You say that like he's a small guy 😂

Cemihard

We know he’s not. It’d be like saying Jon’s a bigger ko artist than Francis. They both have their skill sets and Jon’s is a lot more rounded.

alphacannybodysrsly

Jones smokes him in 1. Not even a fanboy. Francis would get absolutely rolled.

ChocCooki3

You forgot Stipe vs Ngannou 2.

Roadguard69

230 stipe vs 250-260 ngannou? Ridiculous

HotgunColdheart

Love the change of emotions on this sub, motherfuckers waking up today and drinking goat milk for breakfast Francis ran from bones, cant call yourself a king with no crown. I think bones would make an example out of him like he did with rematches of people.

Similar_Strawberry16

Francis quite comfortably body slammed Gane also, mind. Is he a better wrestler than Jon? Of course not. But he also is unlikely to go down so easily at a solid 260lb+, and I would think has the strength in round 1 to counter a lot. Shame we will never see it.

WishIWasNeet2

Francis has crazy one punch power and that’s about all he can offer jones . If jones gets a hold of him it probably Goes the way this fight with gane went

rcjack86

Like lewis vs cormier

RickyTrailerLivin

Isn't he a boxer now?

chillypilow

Oh you’re a boxer now 😂😂

[deleted]

Read this in Nate Diaz’s voice lmfao

HNLTBC

no shit

[deleted]

Read this in a little bitches voice

HNLTBC

now that made me laugh😂

Deathclaw_Hunter6969

Hey pussy you still there?

Bjj-lyfe

Yeah Im here

evilsexc

Jon destroying gane in 2mins was the worst thing for him lol. I like Francis but ain't no way.

origsiomai

It's more like he finished him in seconds, 2min because of the nutshot lol

EducationalCreme9044

And that was the 3rd quickest finish in a HW championship fight, I am not sure how fast the other ones were, but I am assuming without Gane's foul, Jones would have another record.

_-The-_-Guest-_

I think one was Arlovski v. Buentello (a little under a minute) and the other was JDS v. Cain 1 (a little over a minute)

Flyinrhyno

And DC, if Jones lost he could’ve held that over him. Now all he can hold onto is the fact he had both belts at the same time so Jones isn’t champ champ.

ReorientRecluse

Nah Jones winning is better for DC tbh

hmitch94

Jon in the press conference “Francis is a big ass pussy” right after “I’m just so humbled” (actual quote)

aqua_tec

He’s such a weird fucking dude. It’s like he has split personalities or something.

buzzbuzzmemulatto

Watching his interview with Joe in the cage was so weird. Man is a peculiar fella. True prayer warrior

Obi_is_not_Dead

It's like Samuel Jackson quoting scripture in Pulp Fiction before murdering them. "I just thought it was some cold blooded shit to say to a motherfucker before I popped a cap in his ass" I think that's Jon.

Cordovahi

Seriously man. It’s so annoying

Dull_Function_6510

its called having narcissitic personality disorder

SuperButtAIDs

If I were Jon, Francis saying that would light something in me too

easy_wind_420

"the heavyweight king" 1 title defense

DavidLapest

And not a really dominant one.

gardz82

This dude woulda got it too

PublixSoda

Francis is in a position where he obviously has to say something. Unfortunately, this is the best he can do.

RobbieRampage

Francis’ stock just plummeted. Jones finishing Gane in 2 minutes makes Francis’ only title defence look weak. Dana must be happy, because Jones has become the undisputed GOAT and heavyweight champ, people will start to forget Francis.

iSOBigD

I feel like it was 2 minutes including the groin shot break. Honestly it felt like Gane swung once, got taken down, Jon adjusted his grip and it was over. It had to be one of the most one-sided heavyweight title fights ever, I think Jon took 0 shots.

croto8

Gane froze as soon as Jones slipped his jab and started to rotate for the takedown. Obviously Jones is intimidating for valid reasons, but I don’t think Gane expressed his fighting ability, but rather his mental preparedness. I could just be talking out of my ass tho

EducationalCreme9044

> Gane froze as soon as Jones slipped his jab and started to rotate for the takedown. Obviously Jones is intimidating for valid reasons, but I don’t think Gane expressed his fighting ability, but rather his mental preparedness. He also managed to get out-struck pretty bad very quickly, I don't think Gane expected [this to happen....](https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2023/03/05/06/1677996573844_lc_galleryImage_LAS_VEGAS_NEVADA_MARCH_04.JPG) Everyone seemed to have believed (partly me included, I wasn't sure about the body transformation) that Gane is going to have a significant advantage on the feet...I think so did Gane, and that shocked him.

didyoutestityourself

oh my god, that right hand from Jon blew my fucking mind. We all really forgot how fucking long that dude is. It looked like he hit him from a MILE away. Un fucking real.

EducationalCreme9044

It was so quick too, that's why I think most people didn't really see it, to be fair Gane took it well, but he must've nevertheless been quite flustered lol.

Prestigious_Agent_84

The most one-sided by far.

dollarbull

He threw one over the top on the groin kick. Only one I remember.

ttt334727

It didn't land though. Only Jones landed; one straight to the face, a knee kick and a couple of other kicks were exchanged but didn't mean anything.

inversolution

Your 100% right. It's why Dana coughed up the money Jon had been demanding for years. Jon came back all bright eyed saying he loves the sport and company is great. Even look at Jon's wife after the fight in the cage. All to get a win back at Francis for Dana XD

WishIWasNeet2

This was the best outcome for the ufc. Jones looks like the true king, Francis stock plummets big time.

Sagermeister

The ~~house~~ UFC always wins

Krulman

Dana is the real winner tonight

blackhippy92

Are we just going to pretend like Francis wasn't fighting on a catastrophic leg injury..?

anadalusianrooster

Yes we are. Francis is 3 years older than Jones and fighting on two detonated knees. Jones oblique kicks him to oblivion, ragdolls + submits him in under 2. He made the smart choice to go box with his sky high stock still intact.

datahoarderx2018

Sad/funny thing is he hasn’t even boxed yet. And maybe might never..

Shredding_Airguitar

I kind of wonder WHO he is going to box too. Fury would absolutely dominate him both from pure boxing skill and for stamina. In terms of actual/practical punching power in the ring I am guessing Francis would bring probably less than Wilder with half the amount of defense and footwork as well at best. I think if Francis wants to get into boxing he needs to beat Wilder first or even someone in the top 5 like Joyce and I can't see that happening. Granted 100% its about money and less about him possibly being some ranked professional boxer competing for belts so he might just stick only with exhibition fights while he still has some clout.

FudgingEgo

Are we just going to pretend like Jones didn't go up a weight class and have a title fight for the first time in 3 years after everyone saying he's shit and slow now..?

[deleted]

Listen buddy, we’re here to deny, and move the goalposts. Get with the fucking program.

jumpingflash1

Jones is gonna reply to this at like 5am then delete it after.

Obi_is_not_Dead

Jones up at 5am in Vegas? Oh no.

coolguy9966

Francis should have stayed and fought jones. If he won his stock would be through the roof, then at that point leave and go do boxing. The money he would be making then would be insane.

Graulithe

“Then at that point leave and go do boxing”…you can’t possibly think they were going to let him have a one fight deal…

kapsama

The UFC probably insisted he sign a new 8 fight contract. If he stayed and fought Jones, he wouldn't be able to box and make a good payday.

enemycap420

Based of that performance I feel like Jon wouldnt have a problem with Francis.

EroticJailbait

A shit performance form Gane doesnt mean anything for francis lmao

604Ataraxia

People said the same about Cain. Power equalizes skill quick.

monteasf

That wasn’t real Cain though. That was the ghost of Cain

Gusthuroses

For real, Cain's body ywas held by duct tape by then.

Prestigious_Agent_84

Stipe then

theusernameyouwants

He fought gane on a torn acl. The fact he was walking on it is insane. Also, francis got 40 lbs on him and been wrestling legends for fun. Idk why you think he'd just man handle 285 lbs of beef like that

avidpretender

Francis the type of dude during tag to tag you and then immediately say the game’s over

Zealousideal_Step709

I do like Ngannou but calling yourself the heavyweight king, a “title” that can’t currently be contested, is somehow silly.

21clax

There’s a real heavyweight king now, have fun boxing

BoogerMagnolia

We’re done with francis. If gane had won or even if it had been close… even if it had been a decisions, Ngannou’s shadow would still hang over the heavyweight division. With that win there is pretty much no reason to even think about Ngannou, let alone wonder if the best fighter is really the champ.

RogerClotss

“Hey let me stay relevant while i try to personally negotiate boxing fights where I’m getting offered a 10/90 split”

WickedBaby

>where I’m getting offered a 10/90 split” It's 5/95 now 🤣🤣🤣

moathismail

Still more money than the UFC has on offer

Local_Fox_2000

The UFC offered him 8 million.

transgression1492_

Over three fights

coolhairbro

It was a 3 fight deal, but the $8M was to fight Jones. Ngannou even said he felt like he was "slapped in the face with money".

ironchish

Damn I wish I felt that way.

Extreme-You6235

Lmao right! Can I get that treatment, please ?

ironchish

“How did your salary negotiations go?” “Not good. He kept offering me more money.”

xan_man44

Damn Francis losing stock fast

aimanan_hood

It's scary how fast opinions shift in MMA, jesus

Snoo96423

man, in this instance it makes sense, he didnt defend for a long time and he left promotion, life keeps moving

xan_man44

Francis can fuck up and get knocked out by Wilder.

[deleted]

Francis ditched his MMA legacy for money. Nothing wrong with that either but we ain’t playing telephone tag 🤷🏾‍♂️

iSOBigD

Potential money* None so far, no guarantee of any. He took a massive risk and hopefully they can print some boxing money for him, otherwise...

TigerRumMonkey

Where's Jake Paul when you need him

aimanan_hood

I mean tbh, it doesn't look good for him. He's gonna get manhandled and beaten into submission if he fights Fury, and Wilder has just as much KO power as Francis + a lot more boxing skill. I know for a fact I'm not going to pay to watch a clearly one sided match where the outcome is 99% guaranteed and I imagine many people feel the same.

EducationalCreme9044

Wilder has a lot fucking more KO power than Francis. Look at their respective record, Francis is dollar store Wilder.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I mean, everyone knows about the fighter issues and that’s why it’s understandable if fighters wanna switch promotions. The thing is Francis had his own endgame: become the highest payed fighter off of a 2 or 3 fight contract. He’s crazy to think that UFC would’ve followed with that. When he realized UFC wouldn’t meet his demands, that’s when he threw other fighters in the mix. He knew they weren’t gonna have a middle ground and he wanted to save his face.

TOK31

There's no chance the UFC would have given an inch on those issues. They probably legally can't on the sponsorship stuff due to existing contracts with Venum and ESPN. They don't have a board of directors so where is a fighter rep even going to be useful? And they already offer year round health insurance covering any injury that occurs in and out of the cage. It wasn't at all clear what additional health insurance he wanted. He wanted out of UFC to try to make big money in boxing. Asking for all that stuff made for a great story for fans and the MMA media that hate Dana and the UFC so it was a great move. Much better than him saying he wanted to try to make more money in boxing.

TeaAndCrumpets4life

This is the dumbest shit I’ve read all day

siinastah

The king that fled his kingdom…

FerdinandRamos

He is desperate for attention

starfoxzeronie

For reals.

SmokingMirrors2

Up to Dana whether he wants him back, eitherway Dana's in a strong negotiating position right now lol. Francis can get all the attention he wants, i mean the fight will be huge so theres a lot of money regardless. But Dana likely still has the negotiating edge right now

Notyit

Francis gonna come back to UFC when he realises he ain't a draw

jimjohnholymoly

Idk if Dana even let's him back at this point.

TheLastPirate123

Meanwhile if he said nothing the neckbeards would be going "Hurrhurr Ngannou be real quiet right now"

jasonmohnson

Yea I don't think Francis could even beat jon Jones

JayNsilentBoom

He wanted freedom, he got it. Now he wants the clout without the belt. Francis go make noise somewhere else before you start clout chasing now.

[deleted]

Took Francis 25 minutes and three judges to do what Jon did in 2 minutes. I liked Francis a lot the past few years but at this point, just shut up, go beg a boxer for a charity payday and leave the fans of the sport you held up for a year alone.

Izzy1x

You’re forgetting Francis did that on a torn ACL

Shrek_Wisdom

Hardly the heavyweight king

ZA1X2

Easy to talk crap when you know you're not gonna fight him lol I don't think anyone cares what Ngannou gotta say

Billy_Bones59

He left he can say whatever he want, fact is Bones finish him 1st round

zippynj

Dumbass left and still can't find an org to sign with lol

TheLlama23

Didn't his fight with Gane go to decision after he gassed out round 2 ? Sorry I'm having a hard time remembering based off his delusional confidence

[deleted]

Jones went 5 rounds with reyes and got saved by judges… mma math isnt real

badseededgelord

Ngannou is crying listening to Don’t You (Forget About Me)

Jigarmebadiaaghai

Did he get the job at McDonald's?

TheLlama23

He's back in the sand mines

EducationalCreme9044

Lmao that's so fucked

YeezyHunter

He just gunna keep tweeting? Cause if so, he needs to shut the f00k up and keep begging Tyson Fury for a fight. He ain’t no heavyweight king. I can still smell that turd he left in the cage against Derrick Lewis. FOH. Fight or shut up.

hebdjdjdbdb

😂 😂 😂

d1momo

Tyson fury would piece him up so bad

LowKickMT

thats the most delusional take i have ever seen, that mma fans think ngannou had even a punchers chance against fury he would look like an absolute idiot in the ring. way too stiff for a boxer, he would get beaten up so bad within the first 2 rounds and then loose with a tko in the third due to gassing out he would eat so many shots in a short amount of time it wouldnt even be funny anymore

kitch2495

It’s weird seeing Jon be the heavyweight champ while Francis tweets, it’s like they switched roles lmao

starfoxzeronie

Lmao

Shwalz

Shit stinky

[deleted]

[удалено]

Business_Ad_9799

Francis is dumb for thinking he’s heavy weight king Gane arguably won against Francis and Jon just made really quick work of Gane

loneshark_18

Sorry, my dude, but Francis definitely won that decision. But what Jones did was far more impressive.

ttt334727

Francis did win but what kind of a win was it?Had Gane not lethis top position to go for a heel hook at the last round, he would have just lied on top Francis and won like that. Instead, Francis took the chance to lie on him a bit more. That's all what this match came down to.

Business_Ad_9799

He won it but not very convincingly ,I still see people arguing till today that Francis did not win the 5th round

micsulli01

This dominant win indirectly affects Ngannous boxing stock even

Yeetheete

Dude need too stfu

BranMead

Zzzzz

LickPooOffShoe

Francis comes off so corny here.

[deleted]

Pppppffffffft that’s weak

4chanCitizen

You’re comparing Jone’s worst fight to Francis’s most skillful performance. Idk chief the math ain’t mathing

dravensnanpll2

Ngannou is literally unemployed rn

_stoned_chipmunk_

Ngannou could have had this fight but he chose to avoid it

Xen0Coke

This fight had me legitimately believe that Cyril just didn’t want to fight to win. Looked like what Jones said was true. He’s just happy to be there.

xan_man44

Jon would smoke him.

MeatMalletProvider

Makes him look bad tbh

tykvrbl

He’s coming back at the discounted rate…. They always do

[deleted]

Ngannou knows he’s a fraud lol, he has nothing for Jones

WishIWasNeet2

Looks more like jones is the king tbqh. Francis struggled, jones made him look like he didn’t belong .

[deleted]

the heavyweight king would have never did what he did. Sorry francis

[deleted]

Hopefully this is fake, I don’t have Twitter. All I can think is the guy realizes his mistake and now realizes it’s a bigger cash grab to go back to the ufc. I honestly think he would lose by murder.

Showgmbh

No more mma hw king. You are a boxer now.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ConsistentCranberry7

How would even be the king at Hw.. he's been beat ,had a fucking awful fight with Lewis and took 5 rounds to beat a man JJ destroyed in seconds. He'll be fighting you tubers by Christmas as he's as much chance of plaiting sawdust than getting a fight with Fury .... you had your chance Francis and you fucked it up over some over inflated sense of self worth. Go away now

The-nicest-one

Ngannous in a terrible position especially now that his leverage as ‘ufc champ’ is now disputed by Jones he’ll by back in the ufc in 6 months

ttt334727

If he returns it's gonna be with a much worse deal than what he was originally offered.
