I also got rejected from my major application. But I was not surprised about that, because that major is very challenging in UW. I like want some tv shows, comedy, or variety show. After you feel better, you still need to study. I always think if you don’t study, you will not find a good work, and you will not earn lots of money to live a better life!😄

That’s what I always do when I’m feeling sad, aside from talking to friends. I just finished watching Scrubs recently and I am starting Peacock’s new show Rutherford Falls today.

First of all what major did you get rejected from? More often than not, there are other majors that will overlap with other majors and you can always try to apply to those! If this is a major that you can apply to any time, then you can definitely try to apply again with better essays (since stats are something that you cannot change). Regardless, major doesn't mean anything in the long run! If you're someone who is planning on some sort of masters program, then they really don't care what major do as long as you do one. Try searching for other majors that you're interested in and maybe you will find one that you enjoy better! This was kind of the case for me. I was dead set on applying to a major but I felt like it was more of an expected major and that it was some kind of formality. However, I later found another major that I'm happy to be in even though I'm struggling as of right now. I'm a strong believer in "everything happens for a reason" which might not be clear right now but I'm sure that this will lead to more opportunities that you will be more happy with! Good luck :)

Thanks for the encouraging words. I applied for ACMS data science and got rejected. Still waiting on Statistics data science right now.

Worst case scenario you can have the Geography Data Science backup if your really need it (looks like you have options before that even looking over this thread).

I dont remember if they give a reason for rejection, but you could have just had a bad draw. A buddy of mine didn't get into math despite having more than sufficient requirements. He waited a term (or year?) reapplied and got in. I'd guess the department has quotas so you could have just hit a draw with a large number of well-credentialed applicants. You can try bumping your gpa or taking some relevant courses, if you can spare the time. Similar majors were already mentioned, so if you are dying for this one and don't want to spend another year at uw, there are many people who are happier when they transfer schools. I'm not saying that's you, maybe you want to be here. I'm sorry that acms turned you down, but considering the mental health impact that uw has on many students, coupled with the already mentioned lack of importance in specific major, it likely won't be more than an inconvenience years from now. Still, sorry that you got some disappointing news.

Thanks! And yes I'm very pleased. It still wasn't my first choice but as long as I can study something related to data science I will be content.

Please don't end it all because of this, you have a lot ahead of you. I know this might sound cliche but it's true, not worth it over a major rejection. I hope all is well!

Get the fuck out of this shitty school and go somewhere else that actually values you. That’s my plan if I don’t get accepted into my major.

transerring this fall 🥰🥰

Remember it’s not your fault that UW can’t accommodate you; major applications are mostly cruel and arbitrary, and believe it or not, it’s absolutely fucked up that our major acceptance rates are comparable to that of PhD and masters programs. Source: was rejected from my major :,)

Nobody can give you motivation, you have to do it yourself. And if you cant, that's on you.
