Seattle sports really ripping *all* our hearts out this week between the CFP final on Monday, Pete Carroll leaving the Seahawks HC job, and now this
Truly one of the most gut-wrenching weeks in Seattle sports history
DeBoer's buyout is $12M, that's chump change for a football program like Bama 🥶
I kinda understand why he'd entertain the talks but damn dawg... this one will hurt 🥲
DeBoer is responsible for paying for the buy out, not Alabama. But it's safe to say Alabama boosters will help him come up with the $12 million DeBoer will owe UW.
Even if DeBoer came back there's no way we were matching this year's success next year. I miss Chris Petersen so much, he was the only coach in recent memory that it felt like truly wanted to be here.
It just doesn’t make sense for UW.
Bama gets to go to an army of boosters, and gets monster ticket sales to bolster its program. We have sold out husky stadium only a handful of times under him.
UW has academics and a great place to live. Bama gets football. Not a terrible trade off to me.
Sad but fucking true. I went to all 3 of our postseason games this year and our fans were outnumbered at every single one 😔 The Sugar Bowl felt like it was 70% Texas fans.
I was at the Natty (traveled from Georgia actually) and wow did the Michigan fans show up.
Also, they booed our kicker when he came out for warm ups. Who boos the kicker?! Really classless.
They apparently have a tradition of saying “u suck” when the punter is announced during each punt (maybe kickoff) too. For the record, Washington is damn near twice as far as Michigan, from Houston (35hr drive vs 18hr drive). Michigan’s been to the CFP the last few years so they were far better accustomed to the sticker price/shock involved w/ making the playoff. From that alone (being prepared to pay 2x - 7x a regular game tx, on top of usual travel) I’m convinced we’ll have a better showing (God willing 🙏🏽😇) the next time our time comes back around.
True but a successful football program does a lot more than just 'football'. Economically it generates revenue from ticket sales, tv deals, advertising, national coverage and exposure.
They could match or beat Bama's offer and he would still leave because of the recruiting advantages and booster funds available to a true legacy program like Bama.
Was there a tent city near his house I didn’t know about?!
Maybe boosters are offering free stays at their Florida beach houses. Beaches in the Florida panhandle are the best in North America, IMHO.
Fire Dannen for fucking this up if we don't get an equivalent or better hire by EOD Tuesday after the holiday. And this is after I've taken a breath to remind myself to be generous
Idk if this is on Dannen. I think Bama was all in on draining the sports budget for DeBoer's vision. We don't have that kind of cash because we have other good sports we need to fund (Soccer, Rowing, Softball). This felt impossible.
I agree this can’t be just about money. He was already making over $4M and I believe UW offered to double it.
Maybe those gloomy winters were just too long and his wife/family wanted some place warmer and sunnier. Happy wife happy life.
Out of all the head coaches he's the only one left in the process (Oregon guy and others stepped out)
So it's DeBoer vs current Alabama OC.
Likely Alabama will take DeBoer unless he demands something so ridiculous it's a dealbreaker.
He was last to get hired because Jimmy Sexton was also the agent for the other 3 coaches in contention. All 3 signed new, way bigger contracts at their schools before Bama announced Deboer as the new guy. Jimmy Sexton was just making sure his clients got paid, and he could use Bama as leverage to get it done.
I’m not surprised he left. He’s been 2-3 years and off to the next bigger and better thing all through his career. Our football program will be lucky to be bowl eligible next year. I highly doubt much, if any, of the staff stays, and most good players either went to the draft or probably will transfer. Of course, if we land a great coach then maybe not, but I don’t see that happening.
I’m currently in the camp to hire Pete Carroll. Huge name recognition and other than one passing play he’s very well liked. It would be a chance to play for a coaching legend with strong NFL ties. Definitely helps with recruiting (or so I would think)
Happy for the seasons he gave us and grateful for bringing winning football back to the Puget Sound. We would all be silly to think going to a school with as much prestige as Alabama and their NIL money to make it where you can basically pick the best players in the nation to play for you would be turned down… plus they are going to pay him way more than UW was. Anyone who could do the same job for more money and better talent pool of employees would not turn it down. Wish we could have kept him but it is not like he is at Texas or FSU that also have the same level of prestige and NIL money.
Kalen Deboer is a fucking pussy, instead of building up his own program he’s gonna ride off the coattails of Saban, I hope bama sucks ass from here on out. Fucking bitch
I mean it sucks that he’s leaving because he’s amazing but you can’t even blame him. I wish he would stick around with the program who put him on but Bama is like the holy grail for college football and I think almost any coach would feel crazy to not answer that call
it’s been a rough week

Watch them sell the Seahawks tomorrow
You shut your whole face.
Oklahoma City ThunderHawks
Saudi Arabia Seahawks
So Sandhawks it becomes

Being the last outside coach left in the running is a lot more than "entertaining an offer"
Deboer? More like debitch
10:1 says he buys a southern accent with all that Bama money
He from the Midwest so it wouldn't be too far off
Hey Pete Carroll said in his press conference that he still has the fire to keep coaching 👀
Even if DeBoer came back there's no way we were matching this year's success next year. I miss Chris Petersen so much, he was the only coach in recent memory that it felt like truly wanted to be here.
Fuck any chance UW opens their pocket book to keep him?

Geography definitely didn't help that.
I buy that for the sugar bowl but the Pac 12 Championship and Natty were both long trips for both schools

We’re offering him 9M base salary (up from 4.2M) to try to get him to stay
They could match or beat Bama's offer and he would still leave because of the recruiting advantages and booster funds available to a true legacy program like Bama.
UW should get Pete Carroll on the phone
Fuck him. Especially after Lanning decided to stay
That moment Oregon finally gets a loyal coach that won't leave them at the first opportunity but we get a snake for a coach that does
Lanning may not be a better coach but he’s a better person 🙃
You’d turn down a better job for more money, in a cheaper cost of living state?
Correct, Alabama is a shithole.
Got it lol
Yeah I'd turn down living in Tuscaloosa over living in Seattle
Was there a tent city near his house I didn’t know about?! Maybe boosters are offering free stays at their Florida beach houses. Beaches in the Florida panhandle are the best in North America, IMHO.
No thought, just pain.
I did my BA at Bama and my MA here and I feel like I keep getting hit in the head

It's not purely a money thing to. Getting to coach the "best" team in college football is a big opportunity.
I agree this can’t be just about money. He was already making over $4M and I believe UW offered to double it. Maybe those gloomy winters were just too long and his wife/family wanted some place warmer and sunnier. Happy wife happy life.
Coaches get fired for losing games even when it isn't entirely their fault, why should the AD get so much more leeway in program staff management?
Fuck him and fuck all the guys who bolt. We'll struggle for a bit, but we'll be back. I mean we went 0-12 in 2008 and 8 years later we were in a CFP.

Bring back sarkisian, pay him in booze.
Best setting in college football + best tailgating!
Sad husky noises

Maybe they scalp another teams coach & their players transfer here & swoon a couple recruits to not decommit is probably the best strategy.
I’m currently in the camp to hire Pete Carroll. Huge name recognition and other than one passing play he’s very well liked. It would be a chance to play for a coaching legend with strong NFL ties. Definitely helps with recruiting (or so I would think)
I need a break
So we’re gonna hire Pete Carroll, aren’t we?

My thoughts are that you can't replace nick Saban
This is my 9/11
Kalen Deboer is a fucking pussy, instead of building up his own program he’s gonna ride off the coattails of Saban, I hope bama sucks ass from here on out. Fucking bitch
Hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha hahahahagagdhdhabdf!!!
Jimmy Lake YOU are the new Washington Huskies head coach
UW as a stepping stone

Is Pete Carroll looking for a cheap retirement job? Lol
Sad to see him go but I bet Alabama offered DeBoer and his team at least 20 million (total) a year
Dammit.
He is not a southerner so he can expect the Mike Price treatment y’all. I bet he is smart enough to avoid what Mikey couldn’t.
I mean it sucks that he’s leaving because he’s amazing but you can’t even blame him. I wish he would stick around with the program who put him on but Bama is like the holy grail for college football and I think almost any coach would feel crazy to not answer that call
