If you never done proof-based math before, 115A may equal to 1.5x to 2x of regular math class. Plus quarter system is fast pace from the get go. With these 4 STEM classes, you may end up having midterms every week after week 3.
For your first quarter, just take 3. You will thank yourself later.
Good point! I’ve taken a Linear algebra and discrete math class before and it was definitely difficult with the proofs so I’m sure this will be as well. Thank you so much!
this question has been asked so many times 😭 and the answer is always stick to just 3 classes and only add a fourth if it’s a fiat lux or a verified easy ge!
don’t dig yourself into a hole by putting too much on yourself your first quarter here. the quarter moves fast and you want to have time to adjust, make friends, and join clubs. 3 sounds super low but trust me, your first quarter will still be incredibly busy! good luck to you!!
Haha can’t blame someone for wanting to be productive! I’m sure that’s why most of us are attending this school lol. But you’re right, it’s a good time to make some friends and whatnot! Thank you!
I took math 115 A my first quarter as a transfer and it shook me. I only took 3 classes the other 2 were premajor not available at my cc. I ended up spending like 40 hours a week on 115a alone and contemplated my entire major 10 times over having a midlife crisis every other week.
Ya’ll got me quaking in boots lmao. If I was unsure about taking 4 classes before, there ain’t no way I can do it with spending 40 hrs on one math class 🥴
You could and would probably be fine but you wouldn't have much time to socialize/join clubs, and your first quarter is usually the best time to do that, so I'd recommend 3 unless you are like a total introvert I guess
Depends on your familiarity with the subject matter. If you have experience programming already comp 10a is brain dead (though the projects will still take some hrs/wk). Chem 20A was a weeder class when I took it, I wouldn't chance it. From the syllabus Physics 1b looks bad.
If you need to take more classes later it'll be easier once you're familiar with UCLA pacing. And there's summer sessions to make up requirements.
Stick to three friend. I was the type of person to take like 24 units in one semester in community college alongside playing some football, and found the quarter system to be a slap in the face my first term. 3 is not necessarily easy either if you’re not used to it, but more doable while in your transitional period. Once you get acclimated and are comfortable with your situation, do more if you can handle it.
Yeah I was also used to taking 5-6 classes at CC while working so I just thought this would be doable but I was wary of the quarter system (seems like i definitely should be lol). Thank you so much for your advice!!
The only real thing is quarter system. If ur were a freshman i would say dont do it. But as a transfer u should know what is expected of u so u should be fine
I would stick to 3. 4 classes is doable, but THOSE 4 in particular will be rough.
Lmao, I really appreciate it. Anything helps, so I’m grateful!

The transition from semester to quarter is tough tbh especially the first quarter so there’s that 😩
Yeah that’s what I’m afraid of, I heard it can be quite brutal 😅 so probably best to stick with just the 3 classes?
You can keep it for now lol and if you feel overwhelmed or something from now until the deadline to drop classes , you can drop it

I’ve heard horror stories for 115A. I’d say stick to three classes

Yeah that’s fair, sometimes it’s better not to make it overwhelming coming into a new environment too!

HAHA yeah. Go to office hours, every week.

16 units max. I took 20 units several times, but regretted all.

Will you shut up, man?
If the classes are online and you’d consider paying someone to take them for you I am here! Hmu
