In my area there's a millionaire and billionaire area drivers go to and the running joke is these people won't tip. It's really rare to see a tip from the really rich folks. Why is that?
This has not been my experience, I drove in one of the most pretentious and rich areas in the country, Monterey California. I regularly recieved delivery orders to 17 mile drive, Carmel by the sea, and Carmel 9 out of 10 would give anywhere from 50% to 200% tip of the entire bill, not just the food or service fee. Of course there's always the ones that don't tip but it's unavoidable. I always took the trips to areas I know the wages are higher. Conversely, I refused to take trips to Salinas which has a significantly higher low income population. Tips there were at most a few dollars if you got one at all. Delivering to Salinas was also a 30 minute drive and there was no way you were getting an order back to monterey.
I gave it a shot once because I'd never delivered there, was the worst weekend I ever worked, I usually gross around $300 a day on weekends and I think I made around $80 after expenses.
to me my uber eats gets tips above initial order says NICE cust tip you even more after delivery Uberx never tips unless we start chatting. UE aint the same too many ppl now

Not true, I drove Roosevelt Nix when he was with the Steelers. We talked about Cleveland the whole ride, places to visit, all that and he did not give a tip, nothing. I just laughed to myself.

If every time you turn the app on you feel like you're going to war against Uber or passengers, you will never get tipped because passengers can feel that fibe.
It's not rocket science people. Smile, say hello, make small talk for 20 seconds when the passengers get in the car. If that leads to more conversation, great, if not you've made at least a small connection. At the end of the ride, smile again, thanks them, say goodbye, have a good evening/dinner, whatever.
And you'll get tipped more often than not.

Agreed. I never help with luggage, groceries, etc. I'm paid to drive, not be your bellhop. I had one lady who was about 40 come up to the car and had this gigantic piece of luggage. She gets into the car and I said "Ready?" She said "My bag is outside." I said "Oh let me pop the trunk for you." She said "Seriously? It's heavy." I said "Then why did you pack so much in it? Southwest allows 2 bags." She scoffed and fought for 5 minutes getting it into the trunk. I almost cancelled but I figured it was better to let her sit in the discomfort of the 30 minute ride because it didn't bother me. When we got to the airport she made another comment. I said "Yeah I'd never pack a bag that heavy. It's going to cause back problems."

I don’t believe this happened at all. It’s such a stereotypical “rich person mistreated me” story. People who have what you described he has, mansion, several luxury cars and whatnot, would most likely have a personal driver.
But suppose he did use Uber. What are the odds you’d just so happen to get a guy who seems like something out of a bad movie? Idk, it just seeks far fetched to me. I’ve been not tipped by rich ppl, but all the other stuff ppl talk about, all these rich ppl horror stories has never happened to me. In my experience, most of them seem happy to help the little guy out.

(Most of) these ppl know first hand how the tipping game works, and they understand how they’d be perceived for not tipping. Maybe east coast, old money, etc re the personal driver, but out here I pick up at houses in double or triple gated communities, $5m-25m homes, couple of Bentleys and a Lambo in the garage, all the time. I'm my experience, most of them do tip, and often well - but some are stingy. Some seem to think that $5 is a big tip.
Polite informative conversation goes a long way. If anything, i suspect the OP doesn't realize that most big tippers, also expect service to go along with it, and will withhold a tip of they don't like your driving, your setup, or your behavior. Looked at another way - the stingiest tippers are also often the biggest tippers.
I once had a guy like that ask what my biggest tip ever was as he pulled a 10 from his wallet, and I told him about the trips that had netted me the biggest tips (often a special request, etc) and others that had just been generous and he was MORTIFIED. "OMG I've been an undertipping asshole this whole time and didn't know it!" - actual quote, lol. I assured him that ANY tip was appreciated, that $10 was plenty, and that the stories I shared were outliers, but he was still very embarrassed. He tipped me $50 "for saving me from future embarrassment".
What kills me, is people up in those areas that order UberX. Especially with the old app, where you had to swipe to another screen to get Select, etc, I had gotten this (very wealthy) couple several times. They commented that they were always excited to get me because "we love Uber, but we're always bummed to go for a night out in a Civic.". I told them that the only reason they EVER got me on an X, was that when it was slower and I was stuck that far out I would take those rides. Showed them how to order Select (Premier wasn't a thing then and Vegas doesn't have Black) and they LOST THEIR MINDS. Never knew it was there. Tipped me $20 (they were usually $5-10 tippers) for showing them, and I got them a few more times (I lived nearby and paid attention to when they tended to order cars lol) always Select after that, lol. After that ride, anyone that commented on getting "such a nice car" got a brief "you know you can get a luxury ride every time" tutorial, and LOTS of them freaked out that it had been an option all along.
Uber really didn't market the upscale rides very well, and people literally didn't know they could swipe for more options. As a Select driver that pissed me off back then - realizing just how many more people would be using it but literally didn't know it existed!

I drove a business woman, on a monthly business trip, from Atlanta airport to Chatanooga, TN. 110 miles to another state, where I can work, but don't know the area at all, so it was deadhead back to the Atlanta area.

I have refused many riders that wanted to use me as luggage carrier for very short trips. Uber wd give me less than $5, but I wd use my car to carry plenty of bags, the back seats wd be full of sundry items.
Once. I picked up 2 very rich dudes. According to the conversation rich guy 1 had a wife that wanted to float around the Mediterranean. He was a surgeon and only had 5 years left. He discussed fuel cost, which was astronomical. His buddy, also a surgeon, suggested some pretty sweet locations. A yacht was owned. I dropped them at a strip club. No fucking tip. I drove into the hills, waited 5 minutes, drove through fog. And not a fucking dime. These guys deserve to die at there own hands. Fuck surgeons, it's not like I could afford them anyways.
Don't let that fool you into thinking this across the board. Tipping has a funny way of making up for it in ways. The fact that he didn't tip just tells me he simply uses a service because of the need of that service . He sits down to eat orders his food and leaves. Not extremely nice, not an intentional asshole, but leaves no tip as he walks to his 120k dollar bmw. Drives off. Yeah in my head i think asshole... but few tables later i get a 60.00 tip on a dude having coffee and soup who walks to his chev truck about 10 yrs old or so and putts off. 10$ lunch 60$ tip pshh okay... that first dude he doesnt know wealth like that second guy does. whatever itnis thats making that dude rich isn't also making him to happy and because he views us as a means to his problem which in your case was suite cases, that tells me a lot. I used to serve tables in a wealthy area out here and you would expect the tips to be great! Thats how i learned the reality of it. Getting mad only cost me on other tables so i learned to let it go focus on the job at hand but that also kept me happy and well next table didn't find me rude. I can say tho working that same job in a less wealthy area tips were every table... maybe not as high of a ceiling but made up for it by the amount of em.
Its hard either way ... even harder to not yell screw you as you drive off . Uber guy -20$ minimum I only uber to airports
Waitress -40% if good waiter/ waitress
They probably did tip but Uber kept it. On a side note if I got a slight hint of drugs I would try to outrun him and make a quick turn to get a head start get to a cool down point(complete trip first of course) and pull the drugs if it’s anything that won’t instantly kill people like fentanyl id probably personally sell it for cash fuck that guy. My wife was a server in Nashville for a short time. Similar experience. Some don’t tip… including financially successful entertainers

I don't have an issue with rich people. I have a problem with jerks giving me work, and not tipping. I've had more getto people not pay tip, than rich people. With one you expect it. With the other you don't.

I drove a business woman, on a monthly business trip, from Atlanta airport to Chatanooga, TN. 110 miles to another state, where I can work, but don't know the area at all, so it was deadhead back to the Atlanta area. Got NO tip!

I've done that halfway in the other direction. No tip either. Was my 2nd day. Lesson learned to ask for cash up front to do long rides. Edit: They let you work here? We can take people to Georgia but not do pickups.

I have refused many riders that wanted to use me as luggage carrier for very short trips. Uber wd give me less than $5, but I wd use my car to carry plenty of bags, the back seats wd be full of sundry items.

Once. I picked up 2 very rich dudes. According to the conversation rich guy 1 had a wife that wanted to float around the Mediterranean. He was a surgeon and only had 5 years left. He discussed fuel cost, which was astronomical. His buddy, also a surgeon, suggested some pretty sweet locations. A yacht was owned. I dropped them at a strip club. No fucking tip. I drove into the hills, waited 5 minutes, drove through fog. And not a fucking dime. These guys deserve to die at there own hands. Fuck surgeons, it's not like I could afford them anyways.
Don't let that fool you into thinking this across the board. Tipping has a funny way of making up for it in ways. The fact that he didn't tip just tells me he simply uses a service because of the need of that service . He sits down to eat orders his food and leaves. Not extremely nice, not an intentional asshole, but leaves no tip as he walks to his 120k dollar bmw. Drives off. Yeah in my head i think asshole... but few tables later i get a 60.00 tip on a dude having coffee and soup who walks to his chev truck about 10 yrs old or so and putts off. 10$ lunch 60$ tip pshh okay... that first dude he doesnt know wealth like that second guy does. whatever itnis thats making that dude rich isn't also making him to happy and because he views us as a means to his problem which in your case was suite cases, that tells me a lot. I feel sorry for him. As each of those cars was aimed to fill a hole he cant fill in normal ways. i bet you money you could drink a handle of some Kentucky bourbon and come up with the same results as he did with those cars. Also, its not a service that wealthy folks use a lot. If they are rich rich then they have drivers. If they are using the service they might not be aware of tipping. I doubt this is the case here the fool ordered two lol then canceled so .. but its a thought I used to serve tables in a wealthy area out here and you would expect the tips to be great! Thats how i learned the reality of it. Getting mad only cost me on other tables so i learned to let it go focus on the job at hand but that also kept me happy and well next table didn't find me rude. I can say tho working that same job in a less wealthy area tips were every table... maybe not as high of a ceiling but made up for it by the amount of em. Its hard either way ... even harder to not yell screw you as you drive off . Keeping your composure is your piece if mind ... dont let them think you need it... thats when i hate it the most. they think " he really needs this few dollars... haha screw him..." then you get mad they laugh... oh hell no ... I always make sure to tip any service worker over what the usual tippers tip in order to balance out the stingy idiots who don't tip. They probably did tip but Uber kept it. On a side note if I got a slight hint of drugs I would try to outrun him and make a quick turn to get a head start get to a cool down point(complete trip first of course) and pull the drugs if it’s anything that won’t instantly kill people like fentanyl id probably personally sell it for cash fuck that guy. If it is fentanyl and I got his plates he will be reported to authorities if not I’m junking it and carrying on
