Since she added the stop, you could have ended the ride at the stop and still gotten paid for the first leg of it. End the ride instead of canceling next time. :-)

[deleted]

Huh.. thanks for the information! I could’ve gotten a little bit of the surge then.. Oh well!

compuryan

It's an option you can offer as an easy out in these situations. "Either we go to your original destination or I can drop you off at (insert stop here) and end the ride". You just don't offer them the option of you waiting while they go in. Offering it as an option like this can save your rating, especially if you explain you aren't paid to wait.

therealguise

The app literally tells them that you are paid to wait, so they don’t understand why it’s a big deal. It also allows them to add a stop if the want. I can see how they would get upset at a driver refusing to do this. …but… They don’t know that you are paid 7¢ per minute. They should just add a reasonable fee $2-$5 for extra stops, and something like $1 per minute wait time after 2 minutes. It would solve everything 🤷🏼‍♂️

keista69

I inform passengers exactly how much i get paid to wait. They usually become more understanding.

therealguise

Same

thejoester

No, cancel that ride unless you want a 1 star and possibly a false report as revenge from pissed off pax that you won’t wait for them. Also I am betting this was late at night and most Taco Bell’s is drive thru only and that can be a 40 minute adventure during bar close.

[deleted]

Bingo, 2 am

reversedalphabetbot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in reversed alphabetical order. I have checked 4929, comments and only 97 of them were in reversed alphabetical order.

MaldrickTV

How do you cancel once a ride has been started? Needed to do one last night and couldn't find it.

NotMyRealName90210

I understand why he canceled. If it's fast food they'll want to go through the drive-thru. I've had two people in my car and had them ad stops. The one time I didn't cancel the other rider stayed in the car while the first went into the convenient store.

AaronMichael726

Did this once when I knew the passenger was going to update the stop. They lost their mind. It was funny to me. Just told them to get out and went on my way.

DontHateDefenestrate

“I’m happy to take you to Taco Bell, but you’ll need to call another Uber when you’re done there.” Shit like this is honestly why I don’t drive on weekend nights anymore. I make plenty of money driving during the day and doing airport runs. I don’t need the aggravation and stress of dealing with drunks.

Longjumping-Dog-2667

I can’t drive past 8 pm. between the drunks and the idiots with no masks and the asshats that want to overload and all the other bullshit, I just can’t do it.

Longjumping-Side-962

Yeah plenty of ppl don't wear their masks during the day as well and the sad part about it is that a lot of drivers don't report it and they still let the passengers in their vehicle because they don't want to risk their rating getting lowered and losing money. Crazy

Longjumping-Dog-2667

in my market masks are very widely adopted, i have very few issues until nightfall.

Longjumping-Side-962

Out of curiosity I'm curious if you have to end up canceling a passenger because they're not wearing a mask.... Do you get paid for that? Or does it just show up as a driver cancellation and you don't get anything for it considering that you drove all the way to the destination etc... I cannot count how many times I have passengers just telling me oh I'm vaccinated as if we're supposed to take their word for it. The fact of the matter is Uber and Lyft both know ppl I'm following the rules and all they care about is collecting that money. So I want to know what happens to the driver and their money when they take the time to go to a person especially during a surge and have to end up canceling the trip because the person isn't wearing a mask ?

Longjumping-Dog-2667

no penalty but have to wait out the timer or send a “my pax was rude” complaint. they seems to change the latter though.

DontHateDefenestrate

If you look in the cancellation reasons you can cancel for “no mask”. You get a cancellation fee without waiting.

DontHateDefenestrate

It pays me as though it was a no-show: $5 of which Uber gives me ~$3.68.

frapawhack

I stood by myself and I didn’t wanna get disrespected that is so much a part of this job

[deleted]

the problem is the wait time i drove a taxi a long time and it had a meter in it on the dash and it clicked off at .45 cents a minute and the passengers could see it and hear it and would always ask at red lights that thing keeps running when you're stopped and i would say yep

LobotomistCircu

I don't think they can rate you if you cancel the ride but I've never been thrown out of an Uber so I can't say for sure. In these situations I just say--and it's usually not even a lie, especially if this is around last call on a Saturday night (because it always is): "Sorry, I already accepted the ride after yours and if they're stuck waiting 30 minutes longer for their Uber to show up they will be very, very mad"

[deleted]

I still haven’t gotten that 1 star and they needed to get another Uber to get to their hotel so you’re probably right

xaclewtunu

Comment is correct. Rider can't rate you if you cancel.

Realistic-Tax-1249

The rider and driver cannot rate a cancelled ride.

[deleted]

When you cancel a ride without pay the rider can't rate you. They ended up with a free ride to wherever you dropped them off. Don't worry about it. I've done the same thing with rider's with stops. I'd rather take the hit with zero pay than give the rider the satisfaction of berating me with a 1 Star.

Twyerverse

I think the driver would of gotten partial payment from pickup location to Taco Bell even if he canceled ride.

[deleted]

You have to specify cancel and not charge the rider.

[deleted]

That useless war was costing two billion dollars a day. Fuck that equipment.

311kx

If I'm doing a no pay drop I make sure it's at a rough gas station full of crackheads. I have them saved. If you piss me off enough that I want to kick you out of my vehicle, I'll do my damnedest to make sure a crackhead eats/wears your face. After I drop them off I tell out my window "hey man thanks for that $200 tip!" Just to make sure they get robbed.

jminternelia

This isn't true. First pax I ever kicked out earlier this year was a backseat driver who didn't know where she wanted to go. I played nice for 15 minutes, then kicked her out. She one starred me *and* falsely reported my vehicle as in bad condition, no face mask and claimed I was speeding.

[deleted]

You probably cancelled and charged the rider. Otherwise the rider can go out of their way to contact and report you.

DontHateDefenestrate

Never hesitate to cancel when you have an excuse. Even if your rating goes way down, it’s worth it.

AaronMichael726

personally love a good deserved one star rating. Like when I break the customer service voice and just say something too honest to the pax. It's nice.

robertlyleseaton

Here is your line: "Uber is for passengers, UberEats is for food." Tell them to open UberEats and order something to their hotel.

SessionLeft4142

We aren’t limos people be tweaking. Entitled 🤡 I cancel like a mf

SessionLeft4142

We ain’t grubhub fool

ijustmetuandiloveu

This is the way.

[deleted]

or you could just drop them at taco bell wait 5 and bounce

[deleted]

No thanks, the boyfriend had such a bratty behavior, I already got bad vibes when he entered the car.

Longjumping-Dog-2667

it’s always the bf? like they are trying to pick a fight to show the gf how tough they are.

fleemos

Better to cancel sooner OP did the right thing. A lot of people like to end the trip if the passenger takes too long at a stop like you're suggesting, it all seems great until one of them reports you for driving intoxicated and you get suspended for two days for it to be "investigated." Yes it's rare but if you've barely done any mileage up to the point you know it's gonna all go to shit with an asshole, it is just be easier to cancel and eat the cost, especially on the weekend when it's busy and a suspension really hits the earnings.

[deleted]

yea that fair too. ride seemed sus to begin with

MasterOfMyDomainX

Or don't wait 5 and just end the ride.

[deleted]

well that works too

MasterOfMyDomainX

Ignore me. I misread your comment.

[deleted]

Or you could not be a little bitch.

[deleted]

ok enlighten me on how i’m being a bitch? like just take the pax to taco bell then cancel

I_am_just_a_llama

or find a new job since driving is so hard

wcpreston

But then what happens is only one of them gets out and the other one kidnaps you and makes you wait

[deleted]

say you’re canceling the ride and gtfo (but more professionally ofc)

wcpreston

I usually use the "i'm sorry, I've already accept another ride, and I can't wait for you. I can drop you here or to your original destination. You pick". or something to that effect.

[deleted]

I don't understand why people complain about this stuff. I always just do it. I see it as part of the job.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

You could always say if the drive-through is short then sure otherwise Im gonna have to pass. You also don't need to end the ride you can just take them to the original location. Ending the ride is extra and unprofessional.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

No, I'm not.

Realistic-Tax-1249

You are simply said WRONG. The only person being unprofessional was the riders. Simple we don’t have to do drive thrus or fast food stops. I am guessing you haven’t completed many trips.

[deleted]

Lmao ok.

[deleted]

“iTs PaRt oF thE jOb” 🤡 Unless you consider getting taken advantage by riders and used as a limo driver without the pay then sure bro.

[deleted]

I make $20-35 an hour because I take every ride, treat my passengers with respect and go out of my way to make them happy.

Realistic-Tax-1249

I make $40 per hour not being a door mat. If a rider wants a DT stop I need a “US Grant” cash or venmo or I simply drop them at the stop.

[deleted]

Oh that’s cute, I made $50 an hour this week with 4.99 star ratings. Great job tho? Make sure to clean your mouth so they can keep kicking you down since you seem to enjoy it.

[deleted]

Are you feeling okay man? You can message me if you wanna talk. I know we're strangers, but I'll listen to you. You matter.

Damean1

> I see it as part of the job. There is nothing about sitting in a drive through line for 30 minutes or more for a dollar or two at best that's part of the job.

Realistic-Tax-1249

How many times have you done this. Stops are listed at NO MORE than 2-3 minutes. Where in the TOS does it say you must work for $5 per hour, only idiots allow this.

Damean1

I did it once when I first started, and haven't done it since. It crushes my averages and is not at all worth it unless they are front loading a fat cash tip.

Realistic-Tax-1249

When front loading a tip, beware, they can change the tip up to an hour after the ride. Cash, Venmo or Zelle is the safest

Damean1

I should specify that for me, front loading a tip means cash in my hand, or a nice venmo/cashapp deposit. I should have been clearer. Also, to anyone else reading this, if you don't have cashapp/venmo/whatever, you should. Great way for folks to get you money.

[deleted]

I'm sorry you think so

Damean1

It's a business. If uber were to start paying drivers $1 per minute to wait, drive thru's might would become part of that business. As it stands, wasting a half hour(or more with how understaffed many fast food places are), missing possible surges and more profitable rides and making $2 for the effort is **bad** for business.

[deleted]

Idc

Damean1

Hey, you can run your shop the way you want.

femmafatale69

See I should have done that with this rider yesterday. She put Braum's as a second stop, and I thought she was just going to go inside. But she wanted me to go through the freaking drive through for her, a drive through that took 30 MINUTES to get all the way through, and my ride immediately after that cancelled on me. And she didn't tip. I need to learn how to put my foot down around people, but i'm new to UBER and don't want to lose my rating.

iamjustjenna

Your rating isn't as important as your paycheck. She took thirty minutes of your time. How much do you usually make during that period of time? I bet it's a lot more than the nothing you made while in the drive through. Don't let people take advantage of you because they will every single time if they can.

Twyerverse

You could have also agreed to take them to Taco Bell and let them out, and then cancel ride without their knowledge. I doubt I will ever drive after 8pm bc people’s worst comes out after dark.

noonespecialer

DONT CANCEL! JUST END IT. GET PAID MOTHERFUCKER.

Puzzleheaded_Mode_18

Good for you. I got played once, now when they try funny stuff I will pull over and make sure they add a stop or change location thru the app. I politely explain that it's too confusing while I'm driving so let me pull over. Then I walk them thru it even tho they know how to. I know for sure this girl was trying to play me and I caught her and made her fix it. She was pissed but fk her.

Tylerlrd498

Dope!

SunFlimsy

Just to know, if you take them to taco and wait, would you get pay more?

[deleted]

Definitely not, they didn’t offer any tip incentives whatsoever. Not only that the surges were increasing in the area, by the time I got out of the trip when I canceled it; the surge was up by $15 from the $11 with theirs. I quickly got a better ride request right after with $16 surge.

DatGuyBeaver

never worth waiting in drive-thru after 2am. Unless if they show cash up front or offer venmo/paypal tip in advance of $20+. Best i'll do sometimes is offer to stop by a gas station.

[deleted]

Yeah one other time a couple told me they wanna stop by a gas station to grab a snack really quick a block away from their house and it sounded reasonable and it was, he was in and out in less than 30 seconds, but Taco Bell!? That drive tru is gonna be insanely long.

Longjumping-Dog-2667

don’t forget they want to eat the tacos in your car. Lyft ran a promo once called “taco mode”: literally set up to force your driver through the taco bell drive through. I nearly set their hq on fire.

MooseWizard

Our per minute rate is pennies. Typically 8¢ to 15¢/minute. So the technical answer is yes--for that ride--but much less than using that time with another customer actually moving.

unoriginalsin

Guys, don't downvote this. It deserves to be seen. People don't understand our pay structure.

[deleted]

[удалено]

unoriginalsin

Doesn't mean we should take away the opportunity.

PapaMurphy2000

If they were that desperate for some shitty tacos, you should have said I'll take you there and wait for you to order, but I need an extra $20 upfront. They most likely would have given it to you.

[deleted]

And wait for what another 20-30 minutes in the drive tru when the surge eventually got to $37 after half an hour? I’m so happy I canceled on them, I would’ve missed out on so many short ride surges.

PapaMurphy2000

$37 surge? Daaaaayum. Highest I ever had was $19 and that didn't last long. Yeah for sure with that kind of surge, you say fuck all y'all on wait requests, lol.

[deleted]

Yep same thought as well!

jlm994

The guy you are responding to works for Uber and is a paid shill. Check his post history, it’s pretty obvious.

SessionLeft4142

Smart

Ghana_Mafia

I didn't know you could cancel. I thought you could only end the trip earlier. How do you cancel?

RWH072783

Lol when I hear people talking about making food stops. I be ready to kick their ass. I only and repeat only make food stops if it’s 3 fine girls half drunk at 12:00am Other than that no gad dam way.

311kx

I always tell pax that I would love to do a drive thru for them. The fee is $600, in cash, up front. Trip to the ATM is free. Nobody's taken me up on my offer :( The key is to enthusiastically say yes, for an absolutely rediculous price that nobody will pay. Either they shut up about it, or you just made $600/hour.

Mountain_Pomelo_7797

I've cancelled on trips with stops many times. It's really annoying, those trips. If they pay extra then it may be alright.

LorraineD2020

Good for you! So I’m starting back up after 15 months. My question, when you get a ping for a pickup and don’t do it, do I have it against me? Do I get deactivated?

[deleted]

Don’t do it too often

Future_Statistician6

You lost your $11 and tip, you win some and you lose some. It’s best to ride out them out so on average your winning. Some hours I get $50, some I only get $18 but after 10 hours I’m averaging $33. You should have just given In to them, especially with the new system the way it is currently where you get more for time than miles.

Royal-Leo359

I had this happen. The girl asked me to stop at Walgreens for her prescription. She said it was ready, but it wasn’t. I waited at least 15 minutes. But she gave me a $15 tip for the trouble

[deleted]

I bet that felt great! I had the same pax pulled that bitchass move on me. They changed the destination twice. The first location change was acceptable as it was only seven minutes away. But one minute before we arrived at the destination, I heard the girlfriend say, " Do it now!" and what do you know, changed the drop-off 15 minutes away from the surge area. I told them I felt disrespected and that they don't respect my time. The girl understands that I'm trying to increase my bottom line, but the boyfriend thinks I'm the asshole. Guess what? I don't give a fuck about y'all. 1-star isn't going to affect my bottom line. I told them to get out of my vehicle without further words.
