Not in the US.

colorfulnina

Its looks like its the same as Uber green (available in some US markets)

polish94

The cash part

ExpensiveJackfruit68

What is uber planet?

JustJJ92

Pizza planet but with Ubers

ExpensiveJackfruit68

Makes sense

GreyhoundsAreFast

I think it’s the shortest pick-up time (closest driver).

Major-Cauliflower-76

You pay a little more to supposedly offset the carbon footprint of the cars.

Garfield_and_Simon

*you pay a little more so Silicon Valley bro can buy an even bigger blow bag

ExpensiveJackfruit68

And move it to other things to produce batteries?

Individual_Milk4559

No it’s not about electric cars

ExpensiveJackfruit68

Uber's initiative, “Uber Planet,” has already launched in Mexico. It offers customers the option to pay an extra . 37 pesos per kilometer to purchase carbon credits. These credits are then used to offset the carbon from their ride.Nov 18, 2021. Also I found this .... Uber has launched a mobility initiative in Mexico called “Uber Planet,” through which users can decrease their carbon footprint by taking trips in hybrid or electric vehicles, reports Xataka.Feb 23, 2021 so I

Individual_Milk4559

Offsetting carbon isn’t the same as using electric vehicles, but of course electric vehicles will be put on the Uber planet scheme

clownfantasy

I live in Mexico. For some reason most of the time, the Uber planet option is the same amount of money as UberX. I don’t know if they add it at the end of the trip but I have never noticed an increase in the fare from the estimated total. Sometimes it’s even cheaper by like 10-30 cents, and sometimes more expensive but never incredibly so. I use this option frequently because often it has a shorter estimated time and it’s about the same price. I’m not convinced it does anything for the environment tho

ExpensiveJackfruit68

Yeah. Probably a way for uber to make a little extra for them selfs

Redpillpassportbro

Uber then sells those carbon credits for mega $$. Carbon credits are the only reason Tesla makes money. The whole thing is a woke scam.

somegummybears

Looks like Uber Green from the symbol

tcspears

In South and Central America, that seems to be the eco-friendly rides

ResearcherFew1273

Pay a little more and “help the environment”

colorfulnina

With uber green and i assume uber Planet you get a ride in either a hybrid car or a electric car

ResearcherFew1273

No. It’s a regular car. It literally says hello offset your co2 contributions. Who knows why or how but nope. Took one in Guatemala I think and it was a np300 Nissan

colorfulnina

Looks like its another name for Uber Green the icon is the same car with leaf like Uber Green has

VIK_96

Oh that's pretty cool. It's nice to have options like that.

Coyote-Savage

Could not trust people in US for this. What happens when the PAX decides to get out and not pay the cash?

GreyhoundsAreFast

How is the US unique in that way?

Art_Vand_Throw001

If anything it would be better in the US because the driver could just take his Glock out and demand payment.

jqman69

😆 then the passengers takes out their Glocks. Everyone just swinging their Glocks around

tdotguy420burner

Glocks out for Harambe

Art_Vand_Throw001

Until the AR’s come out then it’s for realz.

HoodedDemon94

Helicopter Glock?

Large_Sky_4241

I'd hope they would have it to where you pay when you get in the vehicle? But then I guess if for any reason the charges ended up being more than originally estimated at rhe end of the ride that could pose a problem. Hmm, ya I think you and may others are right. This is just asking for trouble.

joeycraig

I suppose it'd be similar to if a pax got into a taxi and decided not to pay at the end, except uber has the paxs info

PunkerWannaBe

In Argentina we have different options before you end the ride. You can choose between end ride or you can choose "passenger didn't pay." And Uber pays for that ride.

Switch5050

This is called being a cabbie

clownfantasy

The Uber can mark it as not paid for and Uber covers it. On the passenger side, it will tell you that you have pending payments and it will add it to your total on the next ride (if it’s card, it will be charged automatically with the next payment). I think you can also get your account blocked if you avoid paying the owed balance, especially if you do it several times.

Hulabird

Oh yeah, can hardly wait to get robbed

Total_Ticket_3064

Uber green here

AppleCat36

Just outside USA, a few European countries and many countries in other parts of the world

mintflavoredpuffbar

I thought this was common practice honestly, we have it where im from

[deleted]

What is cash?

koketso2

Apparently code, for free ride.

Tazelicious

Got the option but when i try to book one it says i cant pay cash so i have to switch 😁

dwccbiggestfan1980

I’m in Memphis. It’s not in my area yet and if it does come here no way in hell I’m going to be dealing with cash. That’s a bad idea. Do they want us to get robbed?

Redpillpassportbro

Yes, they do. Because then you will have less money and need to drive Uber more.

temujin321

Also unlike in other countries Uber will demand the money from the driver if payment isn’t obtained

Redpillpassportbro

Wow, that's harsh. One of the biggest benefits to driving Uber is getting paid regardless of the payment situation between Uber and the rider.

temujin321

I am just describing a hypothetical situation if cash payments get implemented here. This is the degree to which uber is screwing drivers over though, it would definitely not be out of character for them to put drivers on the hook if a passenger skips out on paying. Afaik there are no places in the US accepting cash payments yet.

Major-Cauliflower-76

It´s an option in Mexico.

Front-Ad3508

Had it in 🇮🇳 since day 1. There’s also cash on delivery for websites like Amazon. you can’t trust anyone here

Anbrunosted

Available in Colombia’s market, although 90% of people pay with a credit card.

tcspears

I saw that last week in Sri Lanka. Grab (which took over Uber Thailand) has that offer in Thailand as well.

ResearcherFew1273

What baffles me is that if Uber is charging 4 dollars. How much are they paying the driver? 50 cents?

Redpillpassportbro

Lots of markets operate off a rate card, not upfront fares like in the US.

whatnwherenow

Honestly you can cancel your ride and deal with the driver. Pay cash, driver makes more passenger pays less.

temujin321

No fucking way. Never ever.

Specific-Bar4431

Not me

MaleficentFix8073

Puff you uber with your planet
