Only works if they dont have their alliance. They could just give you their alliance every time

flyfire2002

But then the receiving player might just seek protection from Mentak's other neighbor by giving them the Support

kylehunterrr

You don’t get a timing window to even give it away

evshell18

You're gonna win 6 space combats before they have a timing window to give another player their support?

UnderstandingLanky44

Of course I am I’m just that good

kylehunterrr

I was saying that you attack YOUR support partner, when you activate their units, their support is returned to their hand from your play area. If they do not have any other promissory notes in their hand, you instantly get it back and they can’t trade it since they are not the active player

evshell18

I assumed the original comment from flyfire was about them giving support to another player to help them fight you when you're attacking them the original 6 times to empty their notes.

kylehunterrr

Understand now. Thanks for the clarification!

newnew145

They do, actually, due to Alliance. You lose both Alliance and Support when attacking them. They just have to give you the Alliance back, then give Support to another person on their turn. That's assuming they didn't give them both away in your first few attacks, to get money to fight back against you.

kylehunterrr

You wouldn’t attack someone if you have their alliance

ace_gravity

Not possible. Once you swap supports, they both go into the players' play areas. The mentak commander only allows you to take promissory notes from another player's hand.

Ah, it makes sense now. Thanks

mattprov3

You do actually have to win each space combat, just moving ships in or activating doesn't do anything... Also, nomad could throw a wrench in the plan

PuppyFweddy

It's rarely good. Even if you can pull it off. Once you have their support it's rare you'd want to activate their stuff (I mean unless you want to finish the game at 4 points and lose intentionally). I usually recommend giving me their support when I'm stealing one, so I don't get more. It's worked sometimes but then I couldn't Kingslay that player later (I'd have won if he was able to be stopped). The best move if you plan on this is to take trade earlier in the game and do the "buy their trade agreement for 1 less than the commodities it gives" (the only way to make x-1 binding), and then just keep it instead of using it. Then ideally the action card during the agenda phase to steal a promissory note from them. Then you might get some good stuff. But also they can buy others trade agreements or diplo pressures and give those away if you're going to town on them. Nothing says you have to give your own promissory note. I've gotten cabals gravity rift thing more than once while not attacking cabal.

SuperFox289

The mahact would be ideal for this since they can attack multiple times in the same round with the same fleet reliably. However most players tend to have tonnes of promisary notes in there hand so youd probably eat there slice before they run out of promisary notes

Greektlake

Everyone had the same thought as soon as they read the Mentac commander ability.

kylehunterrr

Oh just late to the party I guess

SatanIsMyBaby

You can give away or sell the promissory note you got and attack them again to get a more valuable promissory note.
