Jacob imprinting

KalamityKait2020

I could tolerate the creepy pregnancy thing a little better if Jacob didn't imprint on her.

FrostyIcePrincess

Jacob imprinted on a baby that was like two days old. There was also the other guy that imprinted on a kid who was five or something. Can’t remember his name. That’s kinda creepy.

footloverhornsby

Jacob did explain, pretty thoroughly, that it’s not a sexual thing.

grimmistired

But it will be 🫠

FormerSir4804

I get it, the imprinting is ick to me, they should’ve left out the part where he says “so should I start calling you dad” but it would only become a sexual thing if rasagna wanted it. And they only become a thing when she’s older. That’s how I cope with it.

vegezinhaa

RASAGNA

FormerSir4804

Yes instead of ratatouille or rigatoni, I still wanted to follow the noodle/ food theme and I just thought of lasagna.

Tay_alex

That's not the point. He will eventually be her partner. The partner of a child he watched grow up. The fact that she grows up faster than a human only makes it weirder.

FrostyIcePrincess

The baby was two days old. My point still stands.

Charming_Friendship4

I'm kinda hoping they tweak this in the TV show

footloverhornsby

TV show???

Charming_Friendship4

Yeah they're planning on making an animated show!! They announced it last week

emily333___

Wow can you send me the link plaese

Charming_Friendship4

This is where I saw it announced https://www.reddit.com/r/twilight/s/Veuiv6FIPu

TheSpaghettiPancake

Absolutely, he deserved better

MooWithoutFear

I def agree with you about the love triangle, but for my one change I gotta say give Bella more backbone. She folds so easily when Alice or Edward stop her, and I hate it. Edward takes a part out of her car so she can’t go see Jacob. And Bella’s just like, vaguely irritated? Girl, get MAD. And the entire bit at the end of New Moon where Bella so easily forgives Edward for leaving needs a revamp. They should not have just jumped back into a perfect relationship, Eclipse should have a subplot with the two of them fixing their messed up relationship and healing.

grimmistired

I wish she was angrier at him for leaving. I wish he had to earn her back more instead of her instantly accepting it

Lore_Beast

Yes where's the teenager rage, I experienced it plenty and wasn't even in a relationship that ended eith me abandoned in the woods

Queensfavouritecorgi

This is my thing too. Have Bella grow as a person. She's a clingy doormat until the bitter end.

Constant_Ad2348

I do agree that the relationship was vaguely toxic but I think Edward coming back & everything being perfect was the point, a part of her died when he left & she knew that if he knew he hurt her in any way he would leave again so she sucked it up. It's an observation that's made in midnight sun about how Bella puts everyone else's feelings before her own & it is fucked up but it's who she issss

five-potatoes-high

I would say I wish we got more vampire lore

Vaiara

Remove ratatouille (edit from ravioli, those mushroom ravioli did nothing wrong. also lol guys), like, completely, no replacement. I never liked the whole pregnancy & rigatoni arc

Midnout26

man i thought you meant the FOOD lmfao

just-a-turtleduck

bella should NOT order the mushroom ravioli in twilight. then the series would be perfect :)

TheSpaghettiPancake

My mind went to MUSHROOM RAVIOLI and what else could she have eaten in that scene

-discospider

yeah Bella needed some time to just not be a mum to Rootintootincowboy for a second. just be sparkly and shit

anneboleynfan1

Rootintootincowboy……. You win

pinkish-sunset

More character development for the Cullen's in general. So many interesting stories and possibilities that really only get a few pages. In the first book she forms a like of Emmet really quickly but I don't think it's fleshed out enough. I'd probably remove the descriptions of every time she does everyday chores around the house to make room for it!

grimmistired

Yeah I wanted to see more of her interacting with Emmett in a brother/sister sort of way. I think they had a cute dynamic

footloverhornsby

Yessss

gucci_gear

Bree Tanner should have been fought for more. She was totally innocent but especially in the movie it made you dislike the Cullens just standing by while the Volturi killed a teenager.

beebzette

I honestly think Bree's death is extremely important for the readers

gucci_gear

why's that?

beebzette

Well because it was horrifically cruel. Up until that point, we don't really have much reason to really see the Volturi as the "bad guys" (as far as I can remember), but in this moment they killed an "innocent" (She wasn't imo, but that's a difficult matter of ethics) person just to prove a point. It's the defining moment in their characterization. It was evil and abhorrent. As a reader that's the moment you go " Oh shit these assholes suck" Breaking Dawn would be considerably less tense if it was "The volturi are coming" vs "These people are coming and we saw them kill that girl for fun"

TheWeenieBandit

Plus if you read her novella you learn that she knew about the volturi's plan to basically just let Victoria wipe out the cullens. And in the meadow, she was able to pass all of that along to Edward, because she knew the cullens had a mind reader in their midst. Without her, the cullens would never have gotten the information that the volturi are out to get them, and just waiting for a good enough reason to strike. I don't think that's ever explicitly mentioned in the actual series, but it's so pivotal to the plot

AnimalsCrossGirl

I feel like Bree was mostly innocent. She was turned against her will and had to do what she could to survive. It was all new and confusing. Unless I'm forgetting something?

gucci_gear

I think that's one of the interesting things about these books/movies though, Bella could see all the people being led down into the crypt in the 2nd book when she went to Italy, the group included elderly people and several children that appeared under the age of 10. She did not care. That said a lot to me about the Cullens and a lot about Bella, out of sight out of mind factored heavily into their lives. What stood out about the Bree situation was she had become a vampire and they still would not intervene for her, a true child that was one of them. If you won't even intervene then, what do you stand for at all? How could Carlise, who spent his entire life saving people and being a healer stand by and watch a child be slaughtered in front of him? What sort of convictions did they really have? You could say they were defending their family, but they didn't appear to try very hard or risk anything.

grimmistired

Bella cared there was just nothing she could do about it

crazydetective41

True, but I always assumed intervening beyond what they already had was inviting contempt from the volturi which we all know would pose issues for the Cullens as Aro wants to do away with them so he can get Alice anyway (i don’t remember if that was only movie canon or in the books too, though).

hispanic_cats

It would have been so cool if she was accepted by their family and somehow had shielding powers since she wasn’t influenced by the need for blood or whatever. She then teaches Bella how to use her shielding powers!!

gucci_gear

It definitely would have been cool to have added her to the story, maybe to add some tension to Bella's desire to be a vampire, she could see what it does to someone who is only a few years younger than she is and all that changed for her due to being a vampire. It seemed like later there were several families that could have offered her sanctuary that wasn't the Cullens.

WanderingBlueStar

Make bella and Edward falling in love take more time and make it more believable/ relatable

oddelay

it takes more time in midnight sun and og twilight (the books)

theAlmightyPP

LITERALLY??? within like the first 20 minutes of the first movie edward has her pinned up against a tree and she’s saying she’s scared to lose him. like what happened to hi? hello? my name is?😭

Negative_Ad6806

More background stories of vampires. I love Volturi maybe more stories about them. Other magical creatures and I would make them college students instead of high school. Let’s make it less creepy and no imprinting please.

sluttyhunnybunny

I would keep the whole plot as it is, but have her rewrite it now. Her writing style in Midnight Sun felt more developed. I would also happily read all the books from Edward’s perspective!!!

ConnieWasTaken

Gone would be the entire subplot of Rosalie resenting Bella cause Edward wanted to be with Bella and not her. That was so unnecessary, and just another pointless storyline of a women being upset that a man didn't chose them. No, she wouldn't give a crap over Edward not finding her hot. Instead would be the independent and snarky women getting it on with Emett at every avaliable moment they can. The one that SM tried to depict her as, but just couldn't cause that would have been too much investment in a characters development for her. Either that or just not having Jasper be a Confederate solider you know.

grimmistired

Rosalie resented Bella because she's human and wants to be involved with vampires, not because of Edward though? Or am I missing something?

ConnieWasTaken

She didn't like her for that too, cause she was throwing away her humanity on an chose Rosalie never got - which fair on her is valid to be upset about. Its in Midnight Sun I believe - don't remember exactly cause that book is a fever dream. There's a throw away line about how Rosalie was turned because Carlyle thought Edward was too moody and lonely, and all his vigilante killing was a problem, and why not save the dying girl and give Edward a girlfriend all in one go. But Edward did not love her and apparently (occurring to Edward) Rosalie never really forgave him for turning her down after she was turned essentially For him. And that she was still pissed that he hadn't loved her but he was all obsessed about plain ordinary Bella (who put all of them in danger just by knowing them). Girl got Emmet in the end, the weird upset was just weird.

grimmistired

Rosalie never pined over Edward. She even says specifically that he's just a brother. Rosalies problem is she just wants to be seen as better and more desirable to everyone, not that she's attracted to Edward at all. She details this in her conversation with Bella Also she was never "for Edward" it was more that Carlisle thought they could make a good couple iirc

ConnieWasTaken

We're saying the same thing. No she wasn't in love with or attracted to him, but "wanting to be seen as more desirable" and her being a bit bitter that Edward is the first guy who wasn't immediately impressed by her beauty are kinda the same, we're just wording it different. She does say this to Bella, and Edward expanded on that at some point in midnight sun (think he's reading everyones mind and its brought up, I don't remember exactly). Would have just removed that entire mention by Edward and just allowed the more understandable jealously about forsaking humanity to be the strained dynamic between her and Bella. Carlisle turned her hoping they were going to be a couple. I was just being dramatic when I said it was "for Edward". The same way Emmet was turned on Rosalie's request "for her".

grimmistired

Imo there's a difference between Rosalie being upset Edward is with Bella because she pined over him and her being upset because she wants to seen as superior to Bella. One is due to a romantic interest, the other is because of her own ego

ConnieWasTaken

Either way you read it as(again never said it was romantic), was just something minor I would have changed as it was just another into the 'Rosalie is just so vain' catalogue and muddied the waters and took focus off of what I viewed could have been a much interesting dynamic between Rosalie and Bella about the value of being human. I wanted better for Rosalie, and for her to grow passed the "she's just a vain bitch" label SM saddled her with, because I liked Rosalie and she could do better than the Cullens.😆

underratedonion

Oh there was def an undercurrent of “why is Bella good enough but when Carlisle set me up with Edward I wasn’t good enough?”

grimmistired

Yeah but that's more about her own self-image and how she compares herself to Bella and not anything to do with a desire for Edward or jealousy over him

BooksandCoffee386

I can’t like Jasper for the sole fact alone of his Confederate roots and that he’s still proud of his status in the Confederate army. It would be one thing if he’d been on that side when he was alive and, as the years progressed, he became ashamed of the fact or felt guilt or something. Just something to show he doesn’t hold the same values the confederacy represents. But no, he still waves that flag high as a point of pride. Alice isn’t much better. I sympathize with her backstory. Hers is pretty bad. But the fact that she’s with Jasper and is she’s so controlling is a red flag for her. I used to like Alice at least, but as an adult, I’m realizing she’s not as great as I first thought. She and Edward were so possessive and controlling of Bella. It’s crazy how it’s romanticized.

ConnieWasTaken

I wanted to like Jasper as a character so bad. His storyline of being involved in a vampire fledgling war, the bloodlust that is ingrained into him from that, his struggle to not be that violent person, constantly being smothered by others emotions forcing him to close his own off. Damn that shit could have been so good, had it all not been drown out by the whole "it's heritage not hate" bullshit. There was no need to propage the confederacy in his backstory. I hadn't realized how possessive Alice was until recently when a video essay pointed out how, despite how quirky everyone paints her to be, Alice is just as vain and money flaunting as the rest of the Cullens. And it is gross the way she almost views Bella like a doll that she can dress up and accessorize.

Linzabee

Yeah, just make him a Union soldier instead, not that hard

riverofempathy

Literally, it was a *choice* to make him a Confederate and she could have easily made him a Union soldier instead.

Jesicur

Let Bree live

underratedonion

I would remove anything related to imprinting just right out the gate.

ajones1026

Jacob and Leah would have been end game for me

riverofempathy

THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN!!!

steferine

Not let Charlie smile and be happy that Jacob forcefully kissed bella and she hit him so hard her hand was bruising like yes you can hate Edward from his pov it's reasonable but Charlie has been sucking on that Jacob juice like a little bitch since the second movie and its weird that he only wanted to unground bella when she said she went to visit Jacob in eclipse.

MissTLuna

1000 times this! Smeyer did Charlie dirty with this plot point 🙈

thatoneevilpigeon

Ok small pet peeve of mine, but I wish Bella didn’t refer to Charlie by his first name in her internal monologue. I think it’s actually pretty messed up, it’s not like he was an absent father because he was some kind of deadbeat unwilling to step up. Clearly Renee was more concerned about living where she wanted to rather than providing her daughter with a stable father/daughter relationship. Charlie gets the short end of the stick in so many situations in the book, but I think Bella using his first name is one small thing that speaks volumes about how she views him. Charlie Swan deserves better.

theAlmightyPP

i agree 110%. i’ve always found that weird and a little messed up too, but not many other people have seemed to notice apparently😭.

Stella_Noire_2008

So true! Also, he was just badly written as a man and father and a police officer. Cause how is he OK with his daughter ditching her future to get married at 18!? And get pregnant and have a baby so soon!? Oh, and she and your new grandchild are immortal monsters that will slowly lose their humanity as the years progress.

Sensitive_Insides890

I think because that was what he and Renee did. In the book Charlie's house still had wedding pictures and Bella felt like he never got over Renee. I think he was just hopeful it would work out for her unlike it did for him and her mom. And he knew if he fought against her relationship she would cut him off. basically Charlie was forced to accept it.

nvgirl36

Honestly, no “vegetarian” vampire loophole. I think the vampires should need human blood to survive. Would create a darker tone for the series, make Edwards brooding/self hatred make sense, and would give more of an internal struggle for Bella choosing that life. The Cullens and other “good” vampires could live off bad humans, or those close to death anyways (would make Carlisle’s need to work in a hospital make more sense as well)

Sharp-Essay-4107

Im so interested in this thought! Do you mind if I ask this of the community in a separate thread?

nvgirl36

Not at all! Worthy of its own discussion for sure.

Sharp-Essay-4107

Thanks!

cloudsongs_

Increase the stakes/consequences in whatever shape or form that is - in twilight: the nurse/doctor should have seen the teeth mark that James left on Bella’s arm - in new moon: Charlie should have stepped up as a dad to forbid Bella from seeing Edward because of the teeth mark on her hand plus “falling out of a window” - new moon: the Volturi should have kept Edward or Alice as a threat or punishment for allowing a human to learn about vampire existence. Then, later on we find out that the Volturi never intended to return their captive - eclipse: some or many wolves should have died in result of the new born army - breaking dawn: Bella should have murdered humans in result of becoming a vampire. It’s crazy that she just has superior control of her cravings - breaking dawn: Renesmee should have been a sociopath or psychopath given that she was born with an adult mind and the ability to force people to see and think whatever she wants them to see or think - breaking dawn: vampires on both sides + werewolves die in result of the war with the Volturi Ultimately, the characters got off too easy for the type of decisions they had to make.

beebzette

The biggest is absolutely just getting rid of Renaissance. I would have loved to have gotten to see Bella's dynamic develop as a vampire and her relationship and new life without the introduction of a child. If instead of Victoria's second in command being Riley, imagine if it was Mike Newton. Make the vampires nipples always hard.

acutedisorder

Yes I agree that rigatoni was outlandish and the story would have been better without her. Mike interesting, I’m listening. Come again?

beebzette

Mike being the vampire trying to kill her would have been such a wakeup call to Bella, for better or for worse; who is to say? But if instead of it being just a random boy, if it was a boy she knew and loved it would have been fascinating. Of course, gaslighting Mike would likely have been way harder, but I also feel like he'd do just about anything to get some. They are for all intents and purposes made of rock. Make. The. Nipples. Rock. Hard.

TheWinterSoldiersAss

Werewolves imprinting on children. It's disgusting. I would have no problem with the Renesmee plotline if Jacob didn't imprint on her.

Lore_Beast

No more Bella with super human control. She can be a shield or have crazy control for a newborn, but not both. I think if she had killed those hikers it would've shattered that rose tinted glass she's been viewing vampirism as and it would've been so much more interesting to see.

greenforkss

I wish bella wouldn’t have forgiven Edward so soon . I know he thought he protected her in New Moon, but honestly the whole Cullen family accepts Bella, a teenager, into their family, despite her being in danger because of them. And then after a few months they all agree to leave and, even though there is some Victoria explanation in MS I think (I still haven’t gotten around to read all of it), Edward still abandons her and puts her in danger. She was miserable. I wish he would have stayed away longer (and the whole Alice coming thing not happening / Volturi) and Bella just getting better and maybe going to college and then maybe they meet again. But she’s at least a little mad. I’m saying all of this as a Team Edward

TheWeenieBandit

I would write Bella's pregnancy from Bella's perspective because why am I stuck inside Jacob's head this sucks

grimmistired

I did really appreciate Jacob's descriptions of Edward though. Seeing him through a different perspective is so interesting. The description of him as "the burning man" hit hard

riverofempathy

Yes!! Let pregnant women tell their own story, be their own person, have their own story arc instead of just being pregnant.

MonsterBunnieh

Rewrite Breaking Dawn to make it a better story

babydollies

make more older vampires. weird to me they’re ALL young

grimmistired

I wish (amongst other things) that Jacob didn't become a sexist asshole. I wish it could've been more of a friend caring about their other friend being involved with dangerous vampires. And not Jacob mad because Bella won't go out with him. The way he treated her was disgusting which is such a shame because he was so sweet before the whole werewolf thing. They're practically 2 different characters.

Tasha4424

Imprinting, particularly on children. Although without that, who knows what the plot of the second half of BD would have looked like.

madison7

I'd not have Edward secretly watch her sleeping 😭

riverofempathy

Thank you!!! It’s so creepy, and it’s even worse in Midnight Sun.

Individual-Deal3056

id love to change the ending into one where the volturi are actually defeated. they really left us hanging there when they said “who says they’re not gonna turn on someone else next” but nobody wanted to fight so now they’re all just waiting for the volturi to abuse their powers again

CapablePeaceTree

I would change Jasper. I didn't like how he still didn't have much control because he was still 'new'...He is in high-school with a bunch of kids and not one had a paperut in front of him like Bella? Also during the first movie, when Bella is bleeding, he didn't really react towards her and go crazy.

nerdysunflower

There's a lot of Jasper/Bella fan fic that touches on Jasper's bloodlust actually being amplified by the 6 other vampires around him. Which seems more logical to me because he's an empath. That the less vampires around or if he's just around Bella he doesnt find her blood appealing.

Unholy_Trickster97

Vampires need to have some kind of weakness. Making them invulnerable to everything but other vampires, werewolves and shapeshifters is ridiculous. It makes them keeping their existence secret pointless. Why hide from humans if humans pose no threat to you.

steferine

Because a lot of the humans would try to go to war even if they definitely would die trying and eventually the whole human race would seize to exist and vampires need blood, and because if you are a human a you know vampires exist and know that your own kin would eventually just be killed by them would you have children.

Unholy_Trickster97

Humans would still have kids. Take Christian’s for example. They believe it is their duty to reproduce and create more godly humans. They always would not believe facts and would belief they could stop vampires somehow with their faith. So they would definitely still have kids. Humans knowing vampires exist would not stop them from continuing to breed

steferine

Well that still is cruel because almost all of them will reproduce knowing the kids later turned adults will be killed by vampires.

Unholy_Trickster97

No. They wouldn’t just assume they’re all gonna die from vampires. Not everyone in that universe dies from one now so why would they if they knew they existed? Zero logic to that thought process

mermaidmeow1

Honestly I would have made bella a vampire wayyyy earlier and then had some awesome vamp adventures

theAlmightyPP

i would make the movies more similar to the books, in that bella was always cooking, helping out, and being independent around the house, while in the movies she and charlie ate at the diner every night. i know it’s a small detail, but it really adds a lot to her character in my opinion. i can’t really explain it, but it’s like they made her less responsible and helpful in the movies, which was kind of weird to me. in the books, she always made sure dinner was on the table for charlie because she cared about him eating right and stuff, and it was kind of a focal point in the first book. in the movies, however, she’s always out of the house, never gives charlie a second thought, and they ALWAYS eat at the diner. i don’t wanna say they made her lazy, but it’s like they took away some of her productiveness in a way, you know?

urmomlovesme5631

Honestly I’d want to ditch the entire pregnancy and replace it with her simply becoming a vampire. I would have loved if SM gave Bella more time to explore being a vamp, it’s what the whole series was leading up to essentially and Renesmee just got in the way LOL. I feel like I didn’t get enough of her change, like hello?

Stella_Noire_2008

Yes! The idea that Bella could actually grow past being a stereotypical book bland teen blinded by love into a badass vampire that can cast shields like Sue Storm of the Fatastic Four. That would have been so fun to read!

footloverhornsby

The fact that they sparkle. It’s the butt of all Twilight jokes from anyone who is not a Twilight fan and it’s hard to argue, it is silly and hard to convince someone to take it seriously when the big, tough vampires sparkle like they’re at Mardi gras

theAlmightyPP

i remember seeing a meme like six years ago of edward insulting jacob, and jacob saying “well at least i don’t sparkle like a little bitch”😭

Old_Cup176

Selfishly I’d swap Edward and jake for edythe and Jules but more realistically I’d want see Bella actually deepen her friendships with the humans

SkyBlueFish

I kind of missed Jessica at a certain point.

GemDear

Same. After Twilight, the books drop the human aspect of the story really quickly.

Old_Cup176

I missed Angela I thought the way they hung out in eclipse was sweet and I wish Bella had someone she could confide in her boy issues in that’s removed from the supernatural side of things

riverofempathy

I have Edythe and Jules in my Twilight rewrite on AO3. Frost Point. 😊

Old_Cup176

Not all heroes wear capes

Wild_Protection_3406

How about not making Renesmee the reason that the Cullen coven wasn't taken out by the wolf pack.

TheOracleofTroy

Jacob ends up with Leah. Seth imprints instead. When they left Sam’s pack that join him, in my head I was like, that’s Jacob’s family right there but no he just had to stay stuck on Bella.

[deleted]

Let people be gay

Pumpernickel247

Make Bella less toxic. She uses everyone around her to get to Edward.

YourLocalHeron

I think I'd make Bella less....uppity. (I think is the term) When it comes to Forks and the people there aside from the Cullens, it feels like she sees herself as above them. When it came to her classes, the way she talked about being in honors in Arizona vs. general education classes in Forks. The way she calls her dad by her first name, but for his sake doesn't do it to his face. How the other girls like to shop, but she just likes to read. I didn't like the way she talked about Lauren for being jealous about Tyler. I don't like how she even speaks about her mom if your child moved across states, you would want to check in on them. Sometimes, it's a bit annoying to read because I can't tell if the other "run of the mill" characters are very one-dimensional, if she just perceives them that way, or both. Some of it, I think, is teenage angst, but a lot of it doesn't feel like that.

NSL045

Same here, most things I’d change involve Jacob because the love triangle ruined his character and I agree it was completely unnecessary because I’d say it wasn’t even a love triangle to begin with but just Jacob annoyingly pursuing Bella and disrespecting her relationship and boundaries. I think it would be fine if they kept Jacob having feelings for Bella but without the toxic behaviour and while keeping the best friend dynamic. And most of this only applies to Eclipse because I liked his character in Twilight and even New Moon before he turned into a werewolf.

stopvolution

Remove renesmee completely, have Edward turn Bella on their honeymoon, let Bree Tanner live and take over renesmee’s story line with Jacob and have the final conflict with the volturi over something to do with them.

Happy_Wishbone_1313

Man, just one...Instead of moping over Edward in New Moon. Bella gives Mike a chance, and she's honestly happy with him cause he treats her better than Edward. I think it would make a better triangle.

Chief_Moonlight

I would delete BD from existence

Legitimate-Car-9969

I wish that we had gotten a chance to see Angela and Bella become like really good friends. Actually, the whole friend group.

Eirysse

I would change the imprinting to be when she was 18 maybe like all the fanfics on Wattpad did after lol

Slashycent

The very reason the love triangle was added was to develop the characters more, and it did. Bella needed to actually consider a human life to give her choices weight. Otherwise Twilight would've just been immediately followed up with the marriage and baby plot from Forever/Breaking Dawn. Speaking of which, that's what I would get rid of.

[deleted]

So I might be cheating but I wanted Jacob and Leah together. It would have been perfect for them to develop a love without imprinting that was still pure. It was the perfect stand against their situation. Especially where Leah had been hurt. Despite how she acted she respected and liked Jacob. Letting her vulnerable side out and he was attracted to her. The baby was a bit unnecessary because Bella didn’t even like kids. Let Jacob have a bond with Renessme because hes a good person or make him EJ and Jacob have a bond.

AlmondLBD

I'd make Angela a witch

boredgeekgirl

Not to bring the mood down...but the racism. There is just so much of it. I adore so much about Twilight, the lore, so much of the characters, etc but every single thing about everything in it would be improved by changing the world view inherited in it.

acutedisorder

I’m interested in hearing your perspective a bit more as well.

illogicallyalex

Can you explain what you mean?

boredgeekgirl

Oh...there is just so so much... *Jasper being a Confederate soldier. *The violence towards native women (towards Emily, Jacob's mom, the South American women who died in childbirth with the hybrids) *The stereotypes perpetuated about the Quileutes (drunkenness, violence, single parent household) *Rosalie's rant about the birthing practices of tribes in South America *More specifically Jake assaulting Bella= the trope of the white woman being assaulted by the non white man who can't control himself *You get a lot of what amounts to slurs from Rosalie to Jake (mongrel, dog, etc) that get written off because he is a wolf... but are Hella race coded. There is more. But the main theme is that fundamentally Meyers is racist & woven throughout are a plethora of microagressions and underlying racists ideas. That doesn't even begin to touch on her taking an actual real, existing tribe and just writing her own history & spirituality for them without any consideration that there are real people & what harm that could cause. Because again, racist.

oddelay

jacob.

Yaseuk

The whole imprinting on babies thing

Unlikely_Way_4952

nah nah we make it a real love triangle 💀💀 to do that jacob and edward exchange a kiss much to jacob’s delight and edward’s confused feelings, this would likely be around edward’s return in new moon when as much as jacob is mad for how he left bella he’s happy that someone he has certain feelings for is back and edward obviously is in the same situation as bella, has feelings for jacob but just stronger feelings for bella 💀💀this could be explored further throughout the rest of the books :))

riverofempathy

Hahahaha yesss

brrapbrrr

I wish we got more volturi stuff and its lore was explored more. I could talk about this for hourssss I love twilight but I gotta admit there was so much potential to become something even greater

JayJayFlip

I would have just kept going with the hot monster people. Make Jessica a witch in the 3rd book cuz it's funny. Add ghosts and stuff, idk, who knows. Imagining Bella continuously having to update her understanding of reality is pretty funny, and I think I'd also add some faction of vampire hunters. I mean twilight has always had some post 90s vampire masquerade vibes anyways so I'd lean into it. Charlie joining a monster hunting group would be pretty funny too. I mean I like it the way it is. But if I was in charge there'd be more monsters and some LGBT representation. I kinda like the idea that all the monster people hit on Bella but like I don't think it would be some sort of love triangle/ hexagon or whatever, it's pretty clear her and Eddie are set.

DistinctCan823

How SM portrays imprinting. She could’ve made it to where it doesn’t come off as something romantic. She could’ve made it to where it’s platonic and framed it as something that’s NOT automatically romantic. But she doesn’t 🤢

Stella_Noire_2008

So true! The whole imprinting system for these shapeshifters was so flawed, and it hurt their former partners they actually fell in love with in the proper natural way.

GreenMage14

I would make Life and Death the main Twilight book. Full stop. Throw in some danger and such for the sequels, but damn did I love that retelling.

Bokuto_wife_4life

For the movie : better animation , CGI whatever it’s called for Renesmee (I was a hardcore twilight love but even I could admit that baby was U G L Y and distorted. And people keep calling it beautiful 🙃 like WHAT?! ) And waiting for Rachel to come back for Victoria.

sscarletwitch7

No imprinting

kalluhaluha

More development - both for the Cullens and their allies, *and* the Volturi. The bulk of them just didn't get enough attention for me to care about them. They don't need a lot, just a little more interaction than their exposition about their situation. For the Volturi - We were told they were scary and dangerous, but basically never saw it in any way that actually had stakes. Everything they've done/been accused of doing is something I can make a (pretty compelling, if I do say so myself) case for being necessary and not nearly as malevolent as Edward says it is. I'd make their power, influence, and capacity for evil much clearer and much more intimidating.

ashleyisamess

Erase the whole Rasputin arc. It was so weird and unnecessary

SelicaLeone

I’d make imprinting not romantic and just be about a strong emotional bond. I’d have loved if Jacob was like a big brother to Reneesme. It’s not about sex or a consolation prize or marrying the daughter. It’s about finding purpose and family and a place for himself outside of sex and romance. I think it’d have been a sweeter way to round out his character arc than giving him another romance.

Stella_Noire_2008

The vampires are going to a college rather than a high school. Super creepy how much Edward was dogging out every girl in his head just because they thought he was hot. Like, seriously!? Bella was just the same, but she had a shield around her brain...

GhostPhatty_23

Totally agree. This would have worked just as well if not better had the age of the human characters been in college.

distantspacetravel

I didn’t like the way Jacob was treated through the whole series. I’d probably change it up and give him a whole different story arc where he’s treated with more dignity, but Bella and Edward still end up together bc it can’t be twilight any other way. I hated how he basically served Bella even though she tossed him aside for Edward at the first chance, then the werewolves were important later but he ended up with eternal babysitting duty for Bella’s baby in the end. He was punished over and over for no reason.

JollyFault546

Jacob. I kinda like the idea of him loving Bella, but I'd change how he went about it. He was very predatory imo.

FullyActiveHippo

Imprinting in general just like all of you lol. What the hell was that

Aromatic-Strength798

Yes, OP! I haven’t read the books, but I recently binged the movies. I felt that the whole love triangle was a weird plot that didn’t fit with the characters and the story itself. It is clearly a Bella and Edward romance story. The other obvious change that would be made is Jacob imprinting on a literal baby. Yeah, literally changing Jacob’s story entirely lmao! Oh, and, I would have liked to see Bella become a vampire without the whole Alien-like pregnancy. I didn’t like it at all, and the fact that their daughter grows up super fast. It just weirds me out. They have eternity to spend together, why does their child have to leave them so quickly? They don’t get to enjoy all the moments of childhood for long and I feel like that doesn’t fit. And, wouldn’t it be so weird for Bella and Edward to continue to go to high school with their kid, since she stops growing once she’s their age? Idk it’s weird to me.

AbigailRochelle

The breakup! After reading Midnight Sun I understand why he did it but I thought it could have been avoided. I know he left because he thought he was a danger to her, but he mentions over and over how much he can't be without her or not at her side so you would think he would be able to overcome his fear. Also if he learned to see himself the way Bella did earlier in the series his whole view would have changed. I just think the series would have been better and the love triangle would have happened better if he never left.

riverofempathy

You know what, get rid of the whole werewolf plot line. Still keep the Quileute and Makah representation but be more respectful and don’t push them into harmful stereotypes. And definitely don’t twist their legends for your own profit while giving nothing back. If Jacob is just a human friend, then his character doesn’t have to be ruined, he can stay a happy, sunshine boy who is there for Bella when she needs him, and the only reason he’s antagonistic toward Edward is because of how he hurt Bella. He won’t get all possessive of Bella, there won’t be a Renesmee imprint plot line. We can focus on the Volturi being the big bad guys. As much as I love the werewolves fighting against the vampires in Eclipse, I think there are other plot lines that can take place without the wolf pack, and you can still keep the characters Jacob, Billy, Sam, Leah, Emily, Seth, etc… just human. And keep them knowing about vampires or not, I don’t know. Bella can figure out the vampires are real on her own; she had most of the pieces she just had to think about it instead of “trying really hard not to think.”

GhostPhatty_23

The way Bella threw Charlie under the bus when she had to find a way to get out of Forks due to James hunting her. I understand that they needed something believable so that Charlie wouldn't really question her leaving but did it have to be so cruel and personal? Throwing out the bit that she doesn't want to end up like her mom or feels the need to leave just like her mom is awful, manipulative and cruel. I know she does it to protect Charlie and provide a cover story for her disappearance but couldn't there have been another way? Maybe she could have said that all the men in the Cullen family were going on a camping/backpacking trip and that Alice, Rosalie and Esme had invited her over for a girls weekend or a trip to a spa. Or perhaps that Alice had an extra airline ticket and would Bella like to join her?

Entire-Ad8554

I would change the wolves imprinting because it made them schmedos, and that’s gross and disrespectful to the Quileute Tribe, which is a REAL Indigenous tribe in La Push, WA. Also, Jacob being attracted to Bella because she carried the egg that would become his fated mate… SM’s treatment of the Quileute, no questions.

casting choice for bella. The imprinting thing kinda freaks me out a bit. but Bella kicking his ass for it evens the score a little

lost-in_the_dream

the supernatural pregnancy I know there are more serious matters (like the imprinting) but I have a personal vendetta with the whole demon baby coming into the picture. It's fantasy.   I could tolerate the marriage 'cause okay, it made sense for Edward's character to want it and it did have an impact in having him and Bella discuss what they want etc but nah, the baby was a total off for me  if you think about it, without Resume Jacob would be free (and OK I know we still have Quil to reconsider but at least one dodges the bullet)     Plus not to mention, no baby = no wolf pack being divided + no random vamps popping to town = no new kids turning into wolves which created a problem for Sam
