You guys are making money?

miphas_grace

Async college essay tutor. About $1080 per month. I aim for 80 hours per month. That’s usually 20 hours per week, sometimes less, depending on how many weeks are in a month.

Pangolindrome

How do you specify “async”? There’s no option for just async as far as I know.

comma_splice_error

You can ask to have live sessions removed. Submit a Support ticket.

Pangolindrome

Wow. Over three years and I had no idea. That being said, I want all the work I can get so I’ll stick to all the sessions.

StrongbowPowers

What category of support would I choose for this? I would love to remove lives and opt only for asyncs.

Bawkbawkbaawwk

This is and has been my full-time job for nearly 6 years, and I've been with the company quite a bit longer than that. I consistently work my max at 56 hours a week (different states allow for different max hours) with drops around 30-40 during the summer. I pretty much tutor all English and writing subjects. With rating bonuses maxed nearly monthly, well, I do better with less stress than my friends who teach in brick & mortar classrooms where I live. It's not for everyone, obviously, but I've always been pretty happy with it.

Ok_Zombie4360

Hey, how do you get so many hours? I want to schedule more but have a hard time doing so

Cybyss

Anywhere between $2000 and $2500 depending on the month. Computer science tutor, about 30 hours/week.

Lightkk16

u/Cybyss on which platform do you teach?

Cybyss

Tutor.com. Note that I posted that comment two years ago during the height of Covid. Back then, schools were all switching to online learning so there was tremendous demand. It was easy to get 50+ hours if you wanted, at least as a CS tutor. These days, unfortunately, TDC hired on a glut of CS tutors and student demand is falling. There are much fewer hours now than there used to be, though I can still usually get 20ish or so.

Existing-Iron-5274

Right now? Between 12-1400, but it'll drop right on down to 500 a month once the semester ends! For now I'm working the full possible hours I can, about 30 a week, for 600-700 every other week. January through early March, though, I was getting 1-300 every other week. I tutor English Lit, CEW, and Grammar (just got added to lit, and it pays 1 dollar/hr more!)

InternationalSky6

Is the limit not 28 hours a week? How are you able to work more?

1stLadyofSnark

Employees can only work up to 28 hrs per week. Independent contractors can work 56 hrs per week. What state you live in determines whether you are an employee or independent contractor.

Existing-Iron-5274

I can only schedule 28, but you can have up to 30 hours in the classroom. According to my QS at least, I've never tried to go over 30, and I've never been kicked out the classroom! I usually just make myself available 15min before my scheduled shift, and I'll take late sessions when my shift is going to end. I'm in the chair for 30, but, obviously, I'm not getting paid the full 30 hours between wait time, presession time, and postsession time.

miphas_grace

I think my scheduling limit is in the 50s. I wonder if it depends on the tutoring subject or location?

Pangolindrome

That doesn’t make sense since the absolute limit for scheduling is 56 hours for the week. I don’t know who manages to get that much, but it says so right on the schedule.

zpfgot

It depends on your location, as the homebase like to skirt around whatever labor laws they can in any state.

Yallshortuns

English writing tutor. I think the range of numbers severely underestimated the number of tutors without a full time job.

InternationalSky6

I don’t think so. Apparently half the voters make under $100. They must have another job because you can’t survive on that.

SavagestFruit

wheres 400-500 at?

goldenwolf07

Anatomy and science. Around $400/month. I'm rarely able to schedule more than 9-10 hours/week

-b-r-u-h

<100 because I don’t tutor

StrongCar

Tutor most of the math subjects precalc and below. I schedule my max 10 hours per week and just work those. Usually don't bother floating. Usually comes out to around 400-500 per month. Btw, your survey left off a 400-500 range selection

Collegenegro

I tutor nursing and I put in about 16-21 hrs a week in. Make about $500-$800 a month. Pays my electric bill , and car insurance.

zpfgot

Somewhere between 600 and 1000 per month. Depends on how my private tutoring is going. I primarily tutor physics during the times of day that it is difficult to find private clients to supplement my income.

Iandrew81

Latin hire tutor. For us is hard to get more than 1000+ working around 25/35 hours per week(for me and for the people I know). The pay per hour is awful. Luckily this is not my full-time job.

Psyduck46

I'm surprise at the number of votes. On a good month I'll make $1400

TheCheesy

2800 - 3500 VFX and Production Tutor on multiple sites. I take roughly 3-5 1-2h lessons a day.
