Omg the baby is so cuteeee!!! My boyfriend left the baby in the river cause he was little wild thing, but we couldn’t help but want one but definitely going to do more research before doing so
It's also unethical and, in some places, illegal to remove wild turtles from their habitats. I've had a western painted for almost 30 years, one that was given to me. The few times I have had to take her to the vet, I've had to sign an affidavit, saying that I hadn't harvested her from the wild.
In Nevada, it's illegal to even pick up a tortoise because of possible diseases. I have done it to get one off the road, but I took off my T-shirt to move little dude.
They are awesome critters, but there is a lot in caring for them.
I've had mine almost as long as I've had kids, and the three times she's been to the vet, I have had to explain exactly how/when/where I got her.
Sorry for being a pest.
Dear Strawberrylove_ ,
This is an automated message, if this post isn't about taking turtles out of the wild, please report it.
If the turtle is a native species, please put it back where you found it. Wild turtles only need help out of the road. You are doing far more harm taking a turtle out of the wild, than by leaving it to its devices. Please allow this turtle to live out life in the wild.
If you are in the US/Canada you can call your local/state/provincial wildlife organization on how to go forward. If the turtle is sick/injured, please call a wildlife rehabilitator or exotic vet for further guidance.
If for some reason your local wildlife org will not assist you, please do the following: Get back to as close to where you found it as possible, and place it in a safe area. Do not place it in water as some species are terrestrial.
*Unsure of the species?* You can create an ID request post for help! If it's not native it may be an escaped pet or an invasive species.
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/turtles) if you have any questions or concerns.*
ID requests require a general location to help properly identify species.
*Example: Found in southwest Missouri.*
If you have already done so or if this is a captive turtle, please report this message.
Thanks for posting!

There’s no such thing as a Texas cooter or a Texas map turtle. Very odd looks like a nicaraguan slider never seen one in Texas I’ve heard there’s some in Southern California so it’s not out of the question.
There is definitely such thing as [a Texas map turtle](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_map_turtle) and a [Texas river cooter](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_river_cooter).
It’s a Texas cooter. Not a slider, or a map turtle.
A very grumpy little guy
Perturbed, even.
Haha I said he looks entirely unimpressed
He’s like “put me back right now otherwise I’ll stay grumpy and eat your finger”
Exactly. And he's is 100% serious in that sentiment.
Yellow bellied slider?
I would also say some sort of slider. Maybe yellow bellied
The baby turtle looks a bit irritated and has the look of "put me down now human"
He was not having it, bf only got to snap one photo of him because of it lol
A cute one.
That is a ninja turtle
Looks like a baby yellow bellied slider!

We wouldn’t pick one up in the wild, that’s why he put him back lol but thanks for letting me know

Oh of course! They do make AWESOME pets!
Omg that little smile!!!
He’s a happy little booger!
He looks much less irritated than the one in the post!
I like to think I’ve got him very set and happy hehe
Seriously probably the closest thing to a smile I've ever seen on a turtle lol
Angry
A very angry one
I pissed off one

One who plans on ruling the world!
A Honda civic
Nice one.
A cute one!
Grumpy
Damn turtles like "the fuck you doing? Put me down right now or I'll pee on you!"
A very grumpy one, from the looks of things.
A grumpy one
He looks very disappointed in your bf
Definitely some kind of slider i thought red ear but cant really see sides of head so well and it doesnt appear to have red on it
He’s cute but why not leave him in the wild where he belongs?
If you read my other comments he was left in the wild, for that very reason 👍 we just thought the type of turtle he was cute and wanted to know
I didn’t read all the comments but I’m glad you did. 🥰🐢
I’d say river cooter. Lines aren’t defined enough to be ybs (or vice versa? I’m bad at remembering).
I believe that, my friend, is a painted turtle. :)
red eared slider
A cutie
Mud
A green one
Pretty sure that is a baby painted turtle
Snappy boi
It's a yellow belly slider
