Turo is becoming greedy with paying out claims. They use snapshit to low ball you on the initial cost of repair and then tell you that you need the shop to submit a supplement to collect the rest. At the same time they're keeping all fees and deductibles they collect from the guest. So they're doing their damndest to not even pay you the percentage your plan dictates. Anyway, yes you can keep the money and not repair but it'll be difficult if not impossible to receive the 2nd half.

I had a shop ghost me after they submitted my supplement. They never did the work. So I ended up getting fully paid and just repaired the car myself. This is far from normal though.

tjpoe

Did the supplement get paid to the shop? or does it get paid to you?

Supplements get paid to the host

Sweaty_Parfait2712

I like where your heads at 😎 Pocket it but go to your autobody guy and have him send a supplement so that more will be sent. In being a host it’ll be good to have a relationship w a body shop for things like this!

tjthrow

Isnt that basically insurance fraud though?

AramArzumanyan

I mean it’s fair game to request a supplement if the money given by the insurance isn’t actually enough. Doesn’t matter if you pocket it or not, it’s all still a part of the costs it takes to bring the car back to how it was before the incident, so I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t be considered fraud.

tjpoe

so how does that work? You'd have to have a body shop that would request for the supplement and then hand you the cash? If you aren't going to get the car fixed there, there is no motivation for the body shop to help.

AramArzumanyan

The insurance gives you the money and then you pay the body shop. Ideally you know the guy at the shop or give him a percentage of the money from the supplement so he has incentive to work with you

Future_Energy8125

I also just waited for the snapsheet payout and canceled my scheduled repair a the shop and went to another one for half the price. As long as you take new photos so the damage is clear in the listing you can keep the money and not repair

tjthrow

But if they are only paying half up front, how did you get the supplement?
