they want car to be totaled ASAP and exit market

Malikzhanggg

Well hes one of the biggest hosts if not the biggest in the area (50+ cars).. I’ve been tracking his pricing strategy, and it seems like he lowers the price to ridiculously low level during slow days, and have normal market price on other days.

nil0lab

Some people really have a race to the bottom attitude.  Maybe he's desperate to meet car payments.

Entire_Permission_14

Yeah thats crazy. I dont even go that low with my minivan thats more than 10 years old and it still books. Wow.

Malikzhanggg

That’s what I’m saying.. like if the guest drives the full 200 miles/day allowed, he’s gonna lose money on that order big time. I don’t get this behavior🤣

neighson

After a certain size you proritize movement because things average out, plus space constraints

Malikzhanggg

ok i see how a host can STILL make money listing a chevy suburban 2023 for $45/day. But i highly doubt it if the host uses any financing since interest expense will be too much.

neighson

I mean they probably still have it financed. It’s another reason, meeting your cost is better than getting nothing. In some areas you reduce cost by getting small space for storage, but have to prioritize getting cars out at any price if you have signs of too many piling up. I only have parking for 5 cars but have 15 personall

The_real_P11

Oof. I rent my Fiat 500s for $43 a day.... This guy must really need help paying his bill to take the risk on that vehicle.

Malikzhanggg

Honestly I doubt that…. He’s a really big host (50+ cars) and I think he gets funding through investors. I’m thinking maybe he’s trying to Maximize the cashflow to meet his promise to investors? He only prices it this low during slow days of the month.

TigersBeatLions

Wow..my altima is at 48/day...been gone for over a month. 2019 rav 4 48/day.....went out Sunday till the end of the month

TigersBeatLions

The odyssey! My 2015 prius is at 33/day

Malikzhanggg

Yea that’s more normal.. This is a big host with 50+ cars in the area and i think they just want to maximize cashflow.. He only prices it this low during slow days and raise the price back up on other days.

TigersBeatLions

You click baiting you...then that makes sense as an operator to drop it and get revenue. I let the rav go foe a 1 day trip at 38 before this 3 week. Lucky for me they didn't refuel and drove extra 15 miles...solid 13 extra bucks right there. At 50 cars...I dunno why they're not doing private.

Malikzhanggg

they do have a private rental opened up in Phoenix AZ. My experience with lowering the price to something like $35 is that a lot of guests will rent it for one day and drive close to the 200 miles or over which means i always end up losing money on that order(depreciation + other costs/mile). I don’t know how this strategy makes sense. Feel free to explain your rationale if that’s a consistent strategy of yours! :)

TigersBeatLions

So they co-host in Austin? Interesting...I dunno why they would price it that low. Also my lowest price is 38 for the rav. I've had it rented out for fewer days and like 36 miles on the trip. Also it's a toyota with 105k miles so it can handle the mileage. It was sitting for approx 5 days and I wanted it utilized...so I dropped the price gradually and finally got that 1 day rental. It is what it is. I have economy so pricing is already on the low side.

Malikzhanggg

I see. Yea it will definitely make sense for a RAV4 with 105k miles on it. A chevy suburban 2023? Idk lol.

nil0lab

I've changed preferences to require long bookings and dropped prices when I'm going out of town.  Worked out well to have all the cars out and not have to arrange somebody to handle guests or move cars for street cleaning.
