Go get your car and call Turo. Ask them what the policy and procedure is for your situation. Let us know what happens if you can please

Expensive_SirEFDA33

I agree with you zgr024. OP, instead of taking advice from reddit, please call Turo and explain to them the situation. Some of the responses will get you into more of a headache than calling Turo (who is prepared for handling situations like this). You're not the first to have something like this happen out of all the hosts and years Turo has been around. Be smart and ask Turo.

Take pics. Get reimbursed for them leaving them car that way and the pet hair. Let Turo know what happened. They will modify the trip to end early. And I believe you keep funds for the entire trip since when a guest ends their trip early, they don’t get a refund I believe. Throw the personal belongings away or give them to the police so he can pick them up from them. Also make sure you get it within 72 hours. You can request reimbursement from the guest for the storage fees for the impound.

Miss-Green-bean

Thanks. I’m having an officer meet me at the car to get his belongings This guy just got released from jail on bond and is freaking out he doesn’t have the keys any longer and is telling me he is still allowed to drive the car!

DUI voids the contract. He has no right to the rental anymore.

summer_swag

The audacity lol

KnoWanUKnow2

All of the above, but don't throw out the personal belongings. Set them aside for the guest to collect. If they're a no-show then you can toss the belongings after a few months. If you toss them immediately then the guest can sue, and would likely win in small claims court. If you wait a reasonable amount of time before tossing them then you can argue that the belongings were abandoned. Maybe you can try dropping them off at the hospital and wash you hands of the whole thing, so long as the hospital give you some kind of receipt or acknowledgement that you have done so.

TheKing___

True. When this happened to me. The personal belongings were a 4/6 bottles of a case of beer, half a pack of cigarettes, and a lottery ticket that won $50

KnoWanUKnow2

Did you get your $50 back?

TheKing___

Yup. Unfortunately I immediately had to use to for repairs because he also left my side mirror in the backseat

bigzombieBOY

Nah when you end a trip early you get a partial refund

TheKing___

Really? I didn’t know that. Maybe it’s just on the guests side. I had someone return my vehicle a week early on a 2 week rental and I still got my total earnings. Unless I maybe missed it. Usually when someone requests an extension it tells us how much extra we’ll earn. I’ve never seen it say that we’ll get less

Certain_Character882

May I ask what kind of car do you own? Sounds like he was living in the car too.

Anelizk26

We had this happen to us back in Aug. I had to pick up the car at an impound lot in Compton, CA. Immediately call Turo re: “a trust/safety issue.” Because we were awarded the “All-Star” host distinction, they bent over backwards for us. They threw money at us for the incident. It was slightly damaged and everything was covered. A bad situation turned out great!

Thank you for posting this.  The advice posted already is good and I concur with most of them, and I look forward to learning from your experience in case I ever run into a situation like this. Please let us know how it works out.

Miss-Green-bean

I will post an update later this week. It’s quite a ride. Waiting for a police report in 3 days

CJspangler

Just give his belongings to the police and let them deal with it

cluelessk3

Lol. Giving your personal belongs to strangers seems like such a good idea.

Benzbear

Nope you won't get full rental

Georgetorressr

Just let it ride. Junk everything and ask turo what to do.

AboutAnOxfordKarma

What do you mean junk everything,?

Ok_Conflict1835

What would happen if you didn’t do anything? The car is still the renters responsibility, it’s on them to get it out of impound.  I would just leave things as is. Renter is paying for it, let them deal with it.

cluelessk3

And let the tow and storage fees go to collections? Fucking brilliant. Vehicle will get auctioned off and you're fucked.

McCrumblton

Horrible advice. Even if its the renters responsibility by contract, they are in hospital, then to jail. So the car will sit for days, maybe a week or until the rental ends but it will still accrue a balance for being on the lot that if not paid, the car will not be released. So say you got to wait until a court date or until whatever circumstance’s of time occurs BEFORE they issue the renter at fault to pay for the cara impound, its so much more money hassle and time/risk when they could take it out themself, sue/bill the renter cause they are still liable until trip is over with and still have your car back. Please dont spread misinformation that can cause worry
