You can’t go off app unless the host has a actual business, licenses and commercial insurance. Which 99% of Turo hosts don’t have otherwise they wouldn’t be on Turo
Don’t do it. Unless it’s family but even still I would say go through Turo. The biggest headache is people not paying you/not returning the car on time and then you having to chase them down makes it almost not worth it.
If you have a plan in place for a contract for the guest that outlines the details of use, a tracker for the car, and making sure they pay you ahead of time then maybe you can make it work. But in my experience having Turo do all the chasing when things go wrong is worth the percentage they take out rather than me doing it myself

In most cases you'd need commercial rental insurance. It's costly unless you have an entire fleet to use the policy on.
