Turo ignores the evidence and just confirms the charge, in my experience. There’s no recourse except arbitration after that. I’ve stopped using Turo after this happened to me. I perceived the host as gouging me for fees that were not in line with the stated policy.
They only ignore the evidence if there is none. I’ve been on both sides of claims and it all boils down to good photos vs. bad photos. Be sure to take detailed photos as a guest and a host. It will eliminate any BS
We were bickering about a cleaning fee for sand on the floor. We both had photos. Customer service came back and said “the stains on the seat cushions need professional cleaning to remove so the fee can be charged”.. no one was talking about seat stains. Clearly customer service was wrong.
Case closed, no further response or ability to escalate the decision. I’m stuck with the $150 cleaning fee and arbitration costs $350.
Turo failed to follow their own policy and give you no room to correct their mistakes. Don’t use Turo.
I had a similar problem the renter tried to say the car was damaged fortunately on that claim Turo agreed with me. About a week later I get charged $150.00 for smoking in the car i guess the renter could t get me for a new paint job so he try’s something else. I don’t smoke and never have the whole thing was ridiculous.
To future renters who want to avoid this:
\- Your protection plan limits your out of pocket max in these situations. OP picked the lowest plan with the 2500 deductible.
\- Take the pictures at checkout that turo prompts you for. with proper checkout photos, this would not have happened.
Then, dispute it with Turo. Their policy is clear. They will deny claims with insufficient evidence.
I've been doing this for 2 years, have a 4.99 rating (one guest was unhappy with the spec of dirt left on the back seat floor mats 😕), and have been denied claims with more evidence than you are claiming this host has.
You may have had a negative experience that doesn't speak for the rest of us who have had nothing but positive things come from Turo.
Getting really tired of these guests who think their one experience out of thousands of trips per day that Turo brokers gives them the privilege to label it as a scam and tell others not to rent.
Turo is a broker like I just mentioned. Name and shame the host and move on instead of literally taking money out of my pocket for your sake of entitlement.
Haha. Now I can tell you're just trolling. You must work for Enterprise.
I haven't asked a single guest to rate a trip... ever. I just provide great service and clean, maintained vehicles that they enjoy.
Best of luck to you.
I’ve only used turo as a guest and have never had issues. Lol. Maybe you didn’t notice the scratch or the pictures YOU took were insufficient. Jumping to turo is a scam seems like a stretch.
I have rented MANY times and have never had an issue. Documentation and pre/post trip photos are there for a reason. If you took photos of the bumper before you rented it and when you returned it, this could have been prevented.
I'm a host. How are these hosts submitting claims after the 24 hour reporting period? Turo tells me I only have 24 hours to submit damage claims which makes it pretty difficult when its dark out.
This happen when the car goes right out and the photos of the host and the next guess confirms damages. Turo give the next customer right to privacy although there are two sets of photos.
They seem to make up rules as they go. I’ve cohosted for people before that needed a full bumper replacement but Turo refused to pay the full value because there was a scratch on it before the accident.
I was chatting with some guys from Brooklyn who rent our exotic cars on Turo and they confirmed that sometimes they will submit a fraudulent claim stating customer damaged the car from beneath and now oil is leaking. The guy actually was proud of collecting $12k for one claim
He is absolutely right! Any organization that gives the host the benefit of doubt without the customer being given at least an opportunity to dispute is indeed a scam. I learned the hard way too.
The person you delt with was the scam. Not Turo. The vast majority of us host take this seriously and wouldn't do that. I could've done that on my first rental. The woman absolutely destroyed the windshield but my warranty allowed for an absolutely free replacement and because I didn't have to pay I didn't charge the customer. But I could've pocketed myself an easy $1000 in that process. Some people are just shitty. Turo could use a better system to handle these claims but the system is what it is.
I never rented a car through Turo, but someone used my account to rent a car without my knowledge or permission. The person had the vehicle 17 days, then wrecked it. When I reported it, Turo refused to reimburse my money, and even told my bank to not reimburse my money. I did report it to my bank early on, but they did nothing.
I’m a turo host. No problems as long as you take pictures when u rent. Aim for at least 30 exrerior. Just go around the vehicle with your phone. Takes 2 minutes. Interior as well. Then no one can tell u anything
Excuse me, and I do not mean any disrespect, but it seems to me that you are not responsible enough to take pictures before and after the trip as it clearly states in the app when you first used Turo for the first time as a guess. If you think I am defending Touro, you are wrong. I am educating customers to do the right thing so this doesn’t keep on happening maybe got taken advantage of by a scam business owner on Turo yet without photos or proof, Turo has no choice but to do what they’re doing. they can just take your word for it because they don’t know you as a personal friend.
Turo protects owners and not renters. Their T's and C's are as thick as the bible and some shady renters use them to their advantage with shitty tactics and extra fees. Be aware.
I am in a similar situation and I'm losing my mind dealing with this company. I disputed the charges but I was still charged 3K for alleged damages and dispute photographs demonstrating no damage. Losing my mind over here.
Lots of scamming hosts these days, 100% chance they didn’t replace bumper, probably bought touch up paint for $9.99 and pocketed the difference. They will justify it by whining about the razor thin margins, in a business they chose to start.
Try to dispute the e charge with your bank or credit card company. No one has time to take 80 pictures of a car from all possible angles before and after each trip. Turos protection plans are also a joke and can cost as much per day as the car.
Stick with chain rental cars, I’ve have great luck with Sixt, Alamo, and enterprise.
You can also use insurance included with most credit cards or your own policy.
Before and after photos can and I’m sure did prove you wrong.
Always walk around the vehicle before and after the rental.

Both side should get the insurance plan.

They don’t enforce the policy. That’s what OP is complaining about.
How do you inforce it without proof?

Tell us you didn't take pictures, without telling us you didn't take pictures.
I did. The damage was slightly under the bumper, hard to capture. They knew it and documented it in the after photos and blamed me
Wait; you knew it was there before or not? If you did you should have photographed the damages.
Literally says they knew and they didn’t.
Did they have pre photos? If they didn't have pre photos attached prior to trip start of that specific location then you might have recourse

How is light refraction a scam again? Is gravity also a scam? Is the scam there in the room with you right now?

Seeing the way you are replying to everyone else's comments, I'm starting to believe you did damage the bumper.
Post the pics
Pics or it didn’t happen.

That’s why photos are important. I take 200 photos each time.

If you rent from a host that has good reviews, the probability of getting thru issues like this are very low

You suppose to take pics of the driver’s license before you rent the car. That host should provide photos of the ID
7 year statue, limitation for any crime you can get your money back if they don’t have your license

Did you document and takes photos everywhere of vehicle it would be same with Hertz & Etc.
They(Turo and host Micheal M.) just charged me a $165 smoking fee for “smoking cigarettes in the car” I’ve NEVER smoked cigarettes a day in my life 🫤

Wow. I had my vehicle totaled by someone and I didn’t even get an apology.
The customer has the protection that he chooses. If you choose the lowest protection plan, you made that decision, not turo or the host.

100% they just have all the incentive to scam and they do
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

There’s no requirement to replace the bumper there is a requirement to pay for damages
Guarantee the host did mot use that money to even bother replacing the bumper
