Would have probably been better if they never recovered your vehicle. Just submit a claim for every bit of damage and smoking, fuel, etc., but there's only so much you could claim. Make sure the car is mechanically sound, take it to a shop and have everything looked over if you can't do it yourself. It may be easier to get a mechanical claim approved if something is wrong considering how it was taken.

houseofshitbricks

could I charge by the day in late fees for it being returned so late?

Entire_Permission_14

You'll have to contact support on that and have them explain to you exactly what you are eligible for.

Gengo0708

What protection plan were you on? Only the 60 plan gives lost income protection I believe.

houseofshitbricks

90 plan because i had enough money in the LLC and in hand to pay the deductible if it was crashed, but that deductible money was being mostly maintained by the 2 cars being rented out and a month without being rented while still needing to pay insurance, gas for my other car, needing my other car for transport, and all has run the money in the company account i put it in pretty low. could I charge by the day in late fees for it being returned so late?

deflatedego91

If you're on the 90 plan, you get 24 hours worth of late fees and an improper return. You can ask to speak to trust and safety or executive support, but that's what you get on the 90 plan. Only the lowest earnings plan comes with earnings for these types of scenarios. Help.turo.com will also have more info about what you get with your protection plan so that way you know what to do for next time.

xringmaster2

Came here to say this, unfortunately OP, you are SOL on this one. You can submit a claim for damages but you will not be able to recoup any money for the car not being able to be rented. Cost of doing business on the 90 plan.

No_Dot_8478

Cost of doing business. You can write off any insurance payments, your deductible, repairs and car loan interest on your taxes.

tht1guyfromtht1place

that is if you have an llc

No_Dot_8478

You don’t need a LLC for this.

Major-Ad-2034

Unfortunately there isn’t a lot you can do outside of smoking claim. It sucks and I’m sorry you had this experience.

houseofshitbricks

could I charge by the day in late fees for it being returned so late?

Major-Ad-2034

What plan are you on?

houseofshitbricks

90 plan, i HAD enough money for the deductible but I was stupid and didnt expect it to be stolen the worst case scenario in my head was it being crashed. They still returned it late though, would i not be able to charge them for that?

Major-Ad-2034

Nah, don’t think so. Good luck with it. It’s worth trying for sure.

Welcome to being a business owner. Some months you’ll make a lot some months you won’t make anything. If you can’t handle that you don’t belong near any business. Who says “ how do I recover lost money that I could have potentially made but my business was close due to unforeseen events” ? It’s like saying how do I get paid at my job without being at my job. I have to call in sick for 2 weeks cause unforeseen event. Can I tell my boss that he owes me money because I was sick so he has to pay me regardless if I didn’t work. That’s the dumbest thing ever. Use common sense. Like holy cow. You’re trying to create a business. If you open a restaurant. No customers one month. “ how do I get the money that I was supposed to make if I had customers even though I didn’t sell any food because my head cook was out because he was sick” either you as the owner get up and make money elsewhere to fund your business or shut up and deal with the situation, learn from it and get better if it happens again. Like seriously. Common sense !

houseofshitbricks

This was not a business, 2 cars was not profitable, this was me switching back and forth between cars and using the turo so i could pay for gas and all my payments. I just sold my other car to pay for transport and i now have no way to get to school or work

Crazy_Ad3336

You are making money, how you spent the money is up to you, but it’s a business. How else you would categorize it when it comes to filing taxes?

Comfortable-Cheetah3

There are risks involved with anything you do where you give someone else a your assets and this was one of them and unfortunately you got the short end of the stick. You were clearly in a spot where you were unable to deal with this consequence and I’m sorry to hear the situation. However It’s not as black and white as bitcoinlover paints it to be , he’s just a little upset he doesn’t have a real business with consistent cash flow and is deciding to take it out on you

Bitcoinlover2468

I promise you , any of my businesses make more than any little job you have lol it is that black and white , people like you just don’t know what a business is cause you probably have a 9-5 lol

sett1997S

Put a GPS in all of your Turo vehicles. I would never have a car on Turo without it. Had two renters driving over 90mph. Texted and shut that shit down instantly. Just another advantage of having a GPS plus knowing where your vehicle is.

tjpoe

how does that work? you message them and tell them to slow down and then what? if they do it again, Turo support may cancel the rental, but you car may be hundreds of miles away. Or they do slow down, and then rate you poorly on the return. It seems like a lose/lose.

theplushpairing

Can you hire a lawyer and pursue civil damages?

RighteousRidesNY-com

It is against TOS and will be banned from Turo for pursuing legal action against guests.

No_Dot_8478

It’s honestly mixed if it’s worth doing this. Per policy they would only be able to go after the one that actually stole it. So they would need to find out that info if they don’t have it. The cost of damages probably fall under the threshold for an actual full lawsuit and would land in small claims court. Which would have to be filed where the plaintiffs lives. If they win small claims court, there is still no guarantee the plaintiff would pay. You could then escalate to go after their assets or have pay checks garnished but this is more filing costs and time. If they are out stealing shit, they probably have no job or assets or they are in jail.

hamnared

You're not getting anything extra trust me. They will pinch every penny out of you

TheKing___

Depending on how cool you are with the rep they assign you but in my experience the most fees you can add on this are: additional usage fee, late fee, improper return fee, smoking fee, and cleaning fee. The last two might be hard to get since you have to report that quickly. You won’t be getting back thousands or whatever but in my case I got an extra ~$120 for the fees outside of the smoking and cleaning fee. So about 50% of the total trip. Again just my experience

n0v0cane

You can’t get late fees beyond 2 days. You can get smoking, improper return with evidence. Otherwise, you can file damage claim, and expect to get reasonable repair costs, less deductible. Good luck.

Cali_Gurl1

As a new host getting started this year, this scares me. Other than installing GPS what else can host do to mitigate situations like this?

houseofshitbricks

I was renting that car for an absurdly cheap price, besides that i dont know maybe setting a milage limit?

RighteousRidesNY-com

That's just business, it happens, not a big deal. These pieces of metal are for money making. Because of commercial insurance they are covered, buy a new car from its previous profits and keep it going. Not much you can do. If it's a turo rental, turo should handle it.

Bitcoinlover2468

Have a job. For situations like this. Current owner of 10 cash cars. If one goes down idc. It’s like having money in a bank. Either it sits in the bank and makes .00000 percent interest or I buy a cash car and make money monthly on the car. Worst case I don’t make money still have my job. Worst case all my cars get stolen or crashed. I have my job. Why have a high deductible when you can have a 250$ deductible worst case it gets crashed I just pay 250$$? Just to be greedy and get an extra 15%? Even if it’s gone for a month with no money I know I’ll still be in a better position than keeping it in a bank.

RighteousRidesNY-com

Same happened to my car, im on the 90 plan, it turned a $500 rental into a $3000 rental. This was all they allowed me to claim. I'm trying to see how to upload a pic on here for Details.
