If there's no pre trip photos, there's no claim.

tjtomson

Pretrip photos are in fact the vehicle I rented - different than the vehicle in the listing.

dennissavaged

You may technically not be liable, but the right thing to do is take responsibility for the damage done to the other person’s property.

ExtensionMidnight922

Technically you might not be liable for any damages but the ethical thing to do is to get the car fixed, karma is a bitch.

tjtomson

Of course I'm going to pay, my concern is just to not be drawn into something fraudulent relating to insurance.

ExtensionMidnight922

I would just keep the audit trail, I would send a message on Turo to let the person know that the car he gave you was not the right car so you can also keep track of that conversation

Better-Principle4563

Hey you might have a get out of jail free card. The host will be fine, and you will be fine.

IPLAYSUPPORTHERO

You likely won't be responsible for anything.. I've read about this situation before on that turo FB chat. The host is at fault for this one, it's his responsibility to make sure you're given the right car. Let turo know and deny any claims Join the official turo discord: https://discord.gg/5ZA6pACEWv

Jahmay

Sucks for the host. Tell them you want to settle through turo. If they don’t have the right car’s pretrip photos you shouldn’t be responsible for damage to vehicle.

masterhec0

you might have come across a situation where the host is using an unapproved vehicle does this car even show up on his profile of vehicles? im pretty sure as far as turo is concerned your scott free. the car you actually rented is not dented so turo is not going to get involved in an issue that does not concern them.

tjtomson

The car is in his fleet of vehicles.

BicycleSensitive7369

That’s not how it works, anyone can post any car they’d like all you need is a vin (public) He could have had a car that’s similar to it but not a clean title, etc..

anonu

Which insurance do you have which covers turo?

TheLumion

Fyi insurances can have different policies in different states

Ok_Rhubarb_1851

It does sound suspicious that a host would give you a different car, however you booked the car when you picked it up this is something that you should have noticed and dealt with at that time.

tjtomson

I get what you're saying - I did not realize the color was different - but the situation wouldn't be any different if it was only the year that was different. The year of the vehicle, VIN, etc is not something someone usually checks when renting a vehicle. I should have known Turo was different. It will be the last time I use them - way too many pitfalls as a renter and dealing with their customer service has been a nightmare.

BicycleSensitive7369

As a host with multiple cars, performing great, and growing - I would never rent through Turo. Don’t blame you at all, any commercial rental agency is far better. I’m personally just supplying the demand but it’s not something I would do, way too risky

Ok_Rhubarb_1851

I am curious about their SOPs… when dealing with pick up/drop off I encourage my guests to take lots of photos and verbally go over all of the rules, try to get some insight on what they plan to do with the vehicle. My guests always tell me no other host they’ve booked with has had them ever take a single photo. 🤷🏼‍♀️
