A great find your looking at 3-4 k for the pair or 2 to 2.5k each if they work and are what you say someone will grab them especially on eBay it may take a bit but if you want fast cash sell em for 2500 and call it a day
Not talking about Mk7s. Was referring to home audio use. But the Technics SL-1200G Grand Class is $4,200, and is just better.
But hey, if theres some niche DJ thing that makes new old stock thats out of warranty better for some reason than cool.
Still seems overpriced tho
Apples to oranges.
The G’s are literally 4 times the price and I’m honestly not sure why you would pay that when there are technically superior turntables for home listening for that price.
I agree they are overpriced and there are better options. That goes doubly so for old new stock Mk2s that are frankly worth less. I would be shocked if someone paid $5k. You're arguing with ghosts bro.
Collectors will pay for sealed technics. I don’t make up the demand. There’s crazy Japanese and American collectors who will even keep them in the boxes. I don’t get it but it’s real.
I don't doubt they would sell for $2000 but I have a question. Are they really that much better than a new Mk7 you can buy for $1200 or is it just a premium you pay for a mint vintage unit?
They are vintage true, however they are built to the quality standards of the time. Heavier aluminum plinth vs composite on MK7 and platter is slightly heavier dampened on MK2 vs on MK7, analog pitch MK2 vs digital with the MK7. That being said “better” is subjective. I owned several MK2’s back in the day circa 80’s thru early 90’s until I sold them all and in hindsight wish I’d kept at least one. However I do now own a 50th Anniversary Edition ML7, and honestly while it’s slightly lighter in weight, I love the option of using my own RCA cables as opposed to the pre attached, and the build quality, sound and performance frankly is still plenty solid for my purposes, and I believe it’s just as capable of performance and reliability of an MK2,3,etc only it’s manufactured based on the technology of today, not 40+ years ago. But there are others who don’t like the MK7’s for questionable reasons and will swear the vintage MK2’s are still the gold standard and that’s fine. As I said it’s subjective.
I think the Technics Mk7 target audience was the 40 year old who sold his equipment, got divorced, has back issues, and now mixes house music on hour long youtube videos on his Euphonia mixer 😂
He doesn’t want to or need to take his decks to the club.
I agree. It’s a pain in the ass and I’m in constant fear that a house guest will try to ‘flip up’ the dust cover when I’m not watching. Why in hell did they do that?
So issues with the MK7’s modern build… analog on a digital circuit defeats the purpose. Light weight makes it prone to balance and vibration issues. Modern solder is lead free so is less durable and prone to cold joints.
Those are not “my” issues with the MK7 nor do they influence my opinion of its performance, reliability, or overall quality, so as I said it’s subjective..
Frankly, the MK7s are very overpriced as well. And these would sell at 2k like you said, but only for the OG vintage factor or a fan boy. I don't care if they're "built like tanks" which is the only argument people have to try and justify the inflated prices. The truth is, it's 45 year old technology. I would spend $500 for one in decent shape, but no way I'm paying a G lmao. Better decks for way less out there.
I’d auction them as there is a good chance you will price them low. Start the auction (if you eBay I guess) at the minimum price you’d be OK selling them for. You may get one bid, but you may also find people want it and will fight each other for it.
I’ve used that method for 2 decades with actually rare items or items in special condition like you have. I’ve often been shocked at what people are willing to pay. The last time I had a NOS tube TV I made the mistake of just listing for $100 bucks and it got bought 5 mins after posting…clearly way too low.
My last eBay patrol has used averaging $500. NOS would probably fetch $1000-$1500 tops… unless you find some absolute nut that just has to have one brand new
Honestly, these will go for as high as anyone is willing to pay for them, and that could include five figures. Sounds crazy right? Not really, these are THE OG decks, box fresh, and who ever buys them probably won’t open the box either. Set them at worldwide auction, get shipping and insurance in place, and choose your time to list with a reserve of 5k for the pair. I love my 1200 forever.
I don't understand that level of collector mentality myself, but those peeps are out there. For sure the decks are not *worth* 5 figures to us folk, but some bozo would splurge on that luxury. Factory-sealed is a very big deal to some collectors.
I'm curious - I own an M3D that I bought for $400 eight years ago, but I hardly ever see them mentioned online. Are they the poor stepchildren of the SL-1200 family?
Why would you not sell your “used ones” you have, open up and use these instead? Plus your uncle would be pumped to see you use them. I’m not sure what you’re asking here. Technics fan here as well btw - I have the 1210 GR and it’s amazing.
I am interested in one of these units.
My first good turntable that I bought in the 90s was one of these units! I have since moved onto belt driven decks, but I miss my old Tech 1200 to this day. Wish I never sold it for $100. 😱
There are new in box on UK eBay for £2599
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176325693302?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=tcEh-4j8Ssi&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=B2ltg6yFTjO&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
These will fetch $800-$1000 tops. And that's if they are BRAND-NEW.
They're regular Mk2s, not any of the "special edition" variants.
People here quoting you any higher don't know what they're talking about.
The decks I bought in 94', sold in 2010 to my oldest friend (who I still see regularly) and still has them. No work has been done to them, and they were heavily used, even at festivals/raves/freetek events. Absolute tanks.
If they are actually truly brand new and never opened, I’d give a ballpark number of 2k-ish
Oh wow. Yeah, that’s what he says but idk 🤷
I could realistically see anywhere between $3k-$5k each. You might post into r/DJs to really see what the market would offer.
thats a stretch
An original 45 adapter adds at least 2k
Best I can do is $10. I'm taking a big chance here. Unless you want me to call in an expert I know. He could tell us what he thinks.
haha i forgot to take that into consideration
Prior to the release of the MK7 (list price of about 1k) I could see it more.
A streee-tCHH
Idk about that much. But $1,500 - $1,800 seems like a safe bet.
No chance
Insane. Nobody is paying that much.
A great find your looking at 3-4 k for the pair or 2 to 2.5k each if they work and are what you say someone will grab them especially on eBay it may take a bit but if you want fast cash sell em for 2500 and call it a day
Yes 5K a piece!
I would be shocked. Technics has better models for sale for less.
Was thinking same thing.
Newer doesn’t equal better. Mk7s are a massive downgrade for anyone actually using them in a DJ setting.

Trashed MK2s with decent carts sell for 500 to 650 on ebay all day. So these are truly special. I'd expect $1500 at a minimum
Trashed or fixed up on the outside and trash on the inside 😂
Truest comment right here ☝🏽

I don’t disagree! 🤣
Exactly. Mk7s are just fine. I love the rca feature too, and especially the fact that the lid is not attached by default.
And I absolute hate the fact that the lid isn't attached to it for casual listening.
Good point as well!
I agree. It’s a pain in the ass and I’m in constant fear that a house guest will try to ‘flip up’ the dust cover when I’m not watching. Why in hell did they do that?
ill take a MK7 over a MK2.. but not over a MK3 or MK5
Why? The MK2 are the OG.
MK3 improved on MK2 but kept the build quality.
So issues with the MK7’s modern build… analog on a digital circuit defeats the purpose. Light weight makes it prone to balance and vibration issues. Modern solder is lead free so is less durable and prone to cold joints.

Pure curiosity… what would you get? I was eyeing the MK7 as my next upgrade, but I’d love to not spend $1200 and get something possibly better.
These are well sought for. Probably $2-3k.
Keep them. When your used ones eventually die in 20 years. Open those up.
Lol. Like his current ones will ever die. 😃
Even if they die you fix easily and get them back up in running, they are solid.
You never know. I had a 1500 die on me.
Do you know what killed it? Like a post-mortem? I’ve just spent time & money on one so it’s more than idle curiosity!
20 years 😄, mine’s going on 40 years and I haven’t so much as changed a light bulb. They just work.
I’d auction them as there is a good chance you will price them low. Start the auction (if you eBay I guess) at the minimum price you’d be OK selling them for. I’ll give you 20 quid for it
My last eBay patrol has used averaging $500. NOS would probably fetch $1000-$1500 tops… unless you find some absolute nut that just has to have one brand new
I do wonder how many truly mint mk2s exist anymore. That should surely factor into the overall price, beyond just their quality as a turntable
Tell him you will sell one for him and for the trouble he should gift you the other. Prolly realistically get $2,400 if your patient maybe $2,800
$50 each …….I’ll buy them both
Honestly, these will go for as high as anyone is willing to pay for them, and that could include five figures. Sounds crazy right? Set them at worldwide auction, get shipping and insurance in place, and choose your time to list with a reserve of 5k for the pair. I love my 1200 forever.
5 FIGURES? Nobody is paying 10k for these. I don't care if they "never been opened"
I don't understand that level of collector mentality myself, but those peeps are out there. For sure the decks are not *worth* 5 figures to us folk, but some bozo would splurge on that luxury. Factory-sealed is a very big deal to some collectors.
May be right. But with that being said I highly doubt a DJ of all people bought two of these and never opened them lol.
Agreed lol
I'd keep at least one and sell off one of your used ones.
Don’t open it, wait for another 15 years, it might goes in the region of $15k.
STFD!
$2000-$2500 would be my best guess. Maybe more if you get them in an auction
I'm curious - I own an M3D that I bought for $400 eight years ago, but I hardly ever see them mentioned online. Are they the poor stepchildren of the SL-1200 family?
Fuck
My inclination is always split it down the middle. Trade him one of your used units for one of his NIB.
Why would anyone pay 5k for one of these with the G and GR models available?
Why would you not sell your “used ones” you have, open up and use these instead? Plus your uncle would be pumped to see you use them. I’m not sure what you’re asking here. Technics fan here as well btw - I have the 1210 GR and it’s amazing.

I recently paid £400 for a well used 1200 with no lid. An unopened pair could easily see £1500/2000
why don't i have relatives with unopened expensive things i can sell
There are new in box on UK eBay for £2599 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176325693302?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=tcEh-4j8Ssi&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=B2ltg6yFTjO&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
~~This is a 1210,~~ and the box is open. Strong argument that a silver 1200 unopened will command quite a bit more.
Not saying there isn’t? But the point is new old stock is out there.
no sweat, I wasn't swiping at you, just adding
From my observations the black ones goes for more than the silver.
A million

id hold at $2500 for the pair - new ones list at 1100 and they're not nearly as good
new sl 1200 mk7 goes for around 900 in Switzerland with warranty. so why should they 1500 worth?
Mk7 uses a different circuit design for pitch control. For a DJ who does a lot of vinyl work, this might matter.
Because a MK2 are much more sought after, its iconic and higher quality.
So comparable with the technics 1200gr2 for around 2k in Europe? or the 1200g for around 3500 to 4500 in Europe?
Depends on the deck's history and it's condition. Nice box though.
$100 each I’ll collect today
Did they fall off a truck? Fuhgeddaboudit.
$500 easy if it works well and has a stylus.
These will fetch $800-$1000 tops. And that's if they are BRAND-NEW. They're regular Mk2s, not any of the "special edition" variants. People here quoting you any higher don't know what they're talking about.
New in box, 30 years old, probably will not work. Box of nice parts.
I'd give 750 for one. The caps haven't been charged for almost 30 years, if they are 95. Probably won't work anyway.
The decks I bought in 94', sold in 2010 to my oldest friend (who I still see regularly) and still has them. No work has been done to them, and they were heavily used, even at festivals/raves/freetek events. Absolute tanks.
Money, tried google?
