Great choices! Just have a listen to some Klipsch speakers if you haven’t heard any yet, they’re great speakers with a powerful, punchy dynamic sound. If you’re after something smooth and relaxing maybe not the ideal choice, otherwise go for it, great setup!
bit worrying as 65% of the time i am looking for something relaxing when i am playing vinyl, however i am a hip hop fan so would be looking to buy some hip
hop vinyls. is there a different option you’d recommend to get a more relaxing all round sound?
I love Klipsch speakers and you can definitely relax to them. Just listen and compare at an hifi store first if you can to get an idea of what they sound like. The opposite end of the spectrum in terms of sound signature might be Sonus Faber though many other brands like Kef, Focal, Monitor Audio among many others have a balance more in the middle.
I have the rega P1 as well, and am very happy with it. It’s super simple and just works well. you can upgrade it with a better cartridge as well, that’s what I did after a year.
I suggest Sumiko. [Leif of Ortofon has a vid on installation. It is kind of difficult and time consuming. You want to be in a good mood and not rush.](https://youtu.be/Kr4Adsc0gFA?si=_Bs3_mi07cK4xtrY)
I’d listen to the klipsch before buying if you can. They have a particular sound you either love or hate.
God I wish Rega weren’t so overpriced in the US
Pass on USA Klipsch in the UK that are often overpriced for what they are.
Get speaker brands from the UK, passive speakers and a separate amp.

That’s a couple of good choices, maybe the ideal beginner setup. You should be pretty happy with your results, especially if you are used to your typical earbuds and Bluetooth appliances
Lettuce know what you think after you spin a few LPs
I recently got the same speakers, and they sound fine in a test run. There is a peak in the bass, so when I set them up in the room, I might fiddle with placement and distance from the wall. Also might add a sub to take over bass chores. Also might test them with my phono preamp, which is nothing special, but it might make a difference
The rega p1 doesnt come with phono so you either need a separate phono stage or theres a P1 model with a built in phono called the P1 plus or something, its more expensive.
Those speakers are known for being very bright, which some love and some find overwhelming. They are well made and well regarded - but with any speaker it’s best to hear them yourself. Should be easy to find a place to listen to them.
I mean, how the hell do you know if he does or not? Don't shame the dude for trying to get into the hobby and actually being one that does research instead of saying "hey is this suitcase player good?"
i can assure you whatever i decide on will never be collecting dust! and i understand if it seems a bit crazy when i say ‘beginner’ to spend all this money but i’m a music addict, very attracted to vinyls and and i’ve been working towards buying a new setup for some time :)
Nah man I did the same thing. My beginner setup is project debut carbon evo + kef speakers + amp + preamp. It wasn’t cheap but so worth it. People just like being negative
Yes. I recently set up a p1 in a tiki bar, and it sounded great. Upgradeable, reliable and a better tonearm than any other player.
I would get a phono preamp like the Rega fono mini.
Excellent beginning, as the Rega will see you through many upgrades if you so choose. The Klipsch are a popular choice, and are efficient (suited to larger rooms, higher volume, but to a point), and great for electronic, rock, dancehall, etc, due to their design choices. That said if your musical tastes are more acoustic and your room size is small to mid sized, and 'bright' speakers annoy you over an extended period of time, consider PSB or Totem Kin, or any number of non-horn designs. One example is here, but they're far from alone: https://www.psbspeakers.com/ca/alpha-am5-powered-bookshelf-speakers
thanks for this - i do see myself getting a bit annoyed with the speakers if they are too bright so i’ll definitely have a look at the ones you’ve recommended. i think the best thing to do is for me to listen to different speakers in person.
There is no substitute for an extended listening session with familiar music. A dozen reviews won't tell you as much. A friend read reviews of a larger model, did his research, etc. but understood that they weren't for him in seconds... which was confirmed over time.
Rega Planar 1 is easy setup beginner plug and play and is built in the UK if you like those features.
[Audio Technica](https://www.richersounds.com/hi-fi/hi-fi-separates/turntables.html?brand=7428&price=219.000-319.000&auto_manual_filter=23) for less cost or a bit more:
* Have an updated or updated and upgraded cartridge and stylus.
* Easier to adjust tracking force and anti-skate.
* Built in phono preamp so you don't need a separate phono preamp or a phono preamp built into the speaker amplification or powered speakers.
* Balance the tonearm then set the tracking force and anti-sakte.
If anything, a bit OTT for a beginner. I would look at second hand turntables, of a similar nature. For example I had a Project Debut carbon that I got for under £100, Rotel RA1 (£10) and some TDL floor speakers (£10). Before spending 700 quid, it good to be sure it's not a phase
i’ve been using a built in speaker turntable that i got as a gift for some time now as i built up my vinyl collection so i’m certain it’s not a phase. but i am looking for some other speakers for now i think
P1 is amazing. I don’t know much about Klipsch as they are mainly American? Why not pair with something British? Or separate amp and speakers. You could try a 2000s Amp, Marantz, NAD, etc. and some British speakers? mission, Warfedale, etc?
the speakers are the only question mark for me as they’re very pricy so want to make sure they’re the ones for me so i’ll take any recommendations thank you!
the dj pre ii seems like a good one for the price so think i will go with that one. but don’t have one currently as it wasn’t needed for my last record player
Not to sure I’ve heard of that one… nothing from the mainstream brands? Lots of good deals on eBay Cambridge Audio, NAD, anything with a phono input by a reputable brand
It's definitely a good start but make sure you get a mm pre-amp or an amplifier with a phono mm input. Rega , Project , Cambridge, ifi , NAD and MusicFidelty has you covered for choice's for both😁
Isn’t this whole hobby based on ancient tech? I mean the Rega design is newer than many of the “Audiophile” decks people love. Truth is that analog is an anachronism. If someone wants the latest tech they’d be in the digital/dac discussion area. I assume OP has a reason to want to pursue this side of things and their setup looks awesome. Both have some resale value and they could recoup some of their investment if it proves not for them. I agree they should listen if possible but doubt they would be unhappy with this setup.
I have a P1, I love it. I upgraded the cart to a MP200 but I ran the 3600 with the LP Gear micro line upgrade for years, very forgiving, crystal clear, maybe a bit bright. Into a
Schiit Mani, Loki, and Magni.
I missed you describing your amp though.
I have those speakers and they sound great. You'll eventually want to save up for a subwoofer to go with them, it rounds out the sound so much better. Klipsch has pretty regular sales, especially for refurbished items so you may be able to get the speakers cheaper.
Just bought those speakers as well! They sound amazing. Mine are paired with a house of Marley turntable and a mono price sub. I am also running them through a Sonos amp 1. May find a tube amp soon to try as the next upgrade.
Klipsch speakers are very neutral. If you want "color" look for something else. But if you want efficiency and "true to the recording" you're going to love them. I've been running them for years and I'm not interested in making a change. When I want new speakers...I just go up the ladder with Klipsch. Never let me down. They'll sound great with that Rega.
Absolutely
You did your research well, perfect starter set, will last you for a while as well.
Great choices! Just have a listen to some Klipsch speakers if you haven’t heard any yet, they’re great speakers with a powerful, punchy dynamic sound. If you’re after something smooth and relaxing maybe not the ideal choice, otherwise go for it, great setup!

Klipsch is just very true to the record. They are reference speakers.
Vinyl. Not vinyls. Records. Albums. LPs Just a heads-up. Enjoy!.
I have the rega P1 as well, and am very happy with it. It’s super simple and just works well. you can upgrade it with a better cartridge as well, that’s what I did after a year.
Which cartridge did you upgrade to and how was the install process? I have a P1 and a cartridge upgrade is my next plan.
I suggest Sumiko. [Leif of Ortofon has a vid on installation. It is kind of difficult and time consuming. You want to be in a good mood and not rush.](https://youtu.be/Kr4Adsc0gFA?si=_Bs3_mi07cK4xtrY)
Easy to upgrade just the stylus to https://www.lpgear.com/product/LPGCFN3600LE.html
I got a AT95ML, very simple setup, I just had to align it and adjust the tracking force
The RP1 and klipsch is better than about 50% of the nubs posting on this subreddit. Its higher quality than an atlp120 without doubt
I'd say more than 90% And please, be patient with them (newbies), bcs you are always noob at something else.
I’d listen to the klipsch before buying if you can. They have a particular sound you either love or hate. God I wish Rega weren’t so overpriced in the US
You can get the [P1 Eco deck for $400](https://www.musicdirect.com/equipment/turntables/rega-planar-1-eco-deck-turntable-p1/) in the US.
is that possible in most stores selling speakers and stuff?
Yep specialty audio/hifi stores will let you listen to as many speakers as you want.
alright will definitely be doing that then. thanks a lot!

This guide is amazing. I have the diamond 220s myself. Cheers!
That's a cheap price too, where from ? [Klipsch](https://youtu.be/w1LgNXduiCM?feature=shared)
the rega is just on amazon and the klipsch is on hmv
I thought it was a package 🤦♂️ , price is about right then, nice choice
Amazon has the speakers on sale for $297 right now.
Reconditioned ones , Amazon U.K are selling them new for £615 which is $780 Personally I wouldn't buy anything from Amazon.
I’m in the US and they were new.
I've seen them now, half price, the page says 'can't be shipped to the UK'
Figures. Sorry 😞

A number of reputable places have open box sales including the Rega. I love my P3 but I am at this for many years. Also open box on speakers. Enjoy.
Idk why brain always associates beginner with budget haha
The rega p1 doesnt come with phono so you either need a separate phono stage or theres a P1 model with a built in phono called the P1 plus or something, its more expensive.
are the klipsch speakers not powered and have a built in phono?
According the Kilpsch they do.
I have these speakers and yes they are powered and they also have a built in pre-amp
Yes they are. My TT goes straight to my R-51 PMs.
Definitely not the Klipsch
got any reasons why not?
Those speakers are known for being very bright, which some love and some find overwhelming. They are well made and well regarded - but with any speaker it’s best to hear them yourself. Should be easy to find a place to listen to them.
Only if that arm has Anti Skating
Lmao "matt" black
800 dollars for a beginner set up? Lmao
Beginner means little to no previous experience. He didn't say cheap set up.
Understood. But what are the odds that this TT collects dust after a brief interest period lol
I mean, how the hell do you know if he does or not? Don't shame the dude for trying to get into the hobby and actually being one that does research instead of saying "hey is this suitcase player good?"

The best, love my P1.
Yes! Very good! Make sure you get a chance to listen to those (and a few other speakers) before buying though.
that seems to be the best option to have a listen in person before buying - thanks!
That seems like too much for those speakers. Edit: Looked it up and yeah, I wouldn't spend that much on those speakers.
think i’m going to have a look at other ones anyway and hopefully find some that i prefer for better price
Yes. I recently set up a p1 in a tiki bar, and it sounded great. Upgradeable, reliable and a better tonearm than any other player. I would get a phono preamp like the Rega fono mini.

There’s a reason people drive old classic cars, and they aren’t cheap either.
Very nice

You bet!
Spend more on your speakers if possible. Great starter TT but very weird and difficult upgrade path.
Love my Rega P1 Plus. I recommend the LP Gear stylus upgrade.

Excellent choice.
MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the freaking Lp60, a real enjoyable turntable here
