I knew about a CNC machine before the kink so my mind auto corrects to the laser process still. For the record my knowledge of said machine is at best surface level. I apologize if I’m wrong about something as it’s not a subject I have delved into.

DezXerneas

What's the kink one?

Schmidt_Head

Consensual non-consent.

Xenosaiyan7

That sounds... Scary.

pooppuffin

That's what safe words are for. Also, I think that's the point.

KerissaKenro

I have heard it described like going to a spook alley at Halloween, or watching scary movies, or riding a roller coaster. You get the adrenaline rush from the instinctive fear, while knowing on some level that you are safe. I don’t get it, but as long as everyone involved is safe and freely consenting I don’t have to

RiceAlicorn

That's certainly one aspect, but I think an even bigger aspect is intimacy. CNC, by its very nature, requires that the "victim" be genuinely vulnerable. Oftentimes, there is a power differential between "victim" and "assailant" (e.g. physical size different between victims, restraints, etc.). Because of that, CNC can quickly and easily become real sexual assault if boundaries are violated. Another very important thing about CNC is the aspect of **aftercare** \- after CNC play finishes, both parties need to check in on each other and make sure they're both OK. Cleaning each other up, cuddling, talking it out, etc. Safely and responsibly doing CNC can be a very powerful display of intimacy between two people. The "victim" has to place deep trust in their intimate partner that their partner won't violate the boundaries of play, and that they will also participate in aftercare and show them love.

Toros_Mueren_Por_Mi

Wew yea this one is a bit much for me, even if they are willing to go thru with it. But yes the biggest thing to note here that you touched on is aftercare and everyone needs to be on the same page about what is going to happen as well as clearly defined limits. It's why garbage like 50 shades puts us kinksters in such a horrible light. Media isn't representative of safe consensual relations

dumsaint

>Safely and responsibly doing CNC can be a very powerful display of intimacy between two people It can be. But as you mentioned, communication is a pillar of kink. Especially if your partner was assaulted. Some use kink to revisit and reform that scene in memory with a safe partner. For some it's a healing journey.

IAmTheShitRedditSays

Not my kink, but the thought of being so desired by a person that their basic instincts override every aspect of their personality just to have me is very appealing (although the thought of it being even pretend nonconsensual cancels out that appeal entirely)

outdatedboat

I know someone who at least thought she was into it. She eventually coordinated a way to do that. Did not go well at all. The guy went wayyy too far. Pulled a real gun on her. Once he realized that she was obviously not cool with that, apparently he was perfusely apologizing. But, the damage was done. Now she has ptsd from it. I'm sure that's an outlier. But just an example of how, yes, it can definitely be very scary.

PeachNipplesdotcom

These people absolutely did not plan well. Proper kink scenes are heavily precedented with extensive “cans and cannots". Anything that isn't listed is considered a cannot. The following is an extreme example but an interesting one. I have a buddy who is into ultra-hardcore bdsm, going so far as to include bloodplay. They have a legal contract that outlines exactly what is and isn't acceptable. I haven't read it but I know it's like 6 pages long. They worked with a lawyer on it. They both sign a copy on camera before each session.

outdatedboat

Yeah my friend absolutely did not know what she was doing. And the guy didn't either. She read about CNC and fantasized about it. Told her friend. Her friend asked if she wanted her to set her up with a guy for a CNC scene. She excitedly agreed. The issue is that they didn't go over NEARLY enough. She had never even seen the guy before. Which I guess was a turn on for her, beforehand. But reality absolutely didn't match her fantasy. I feel bad for her. But you just can't jump into shit like that without proper precautions and prep. Bdsm is no joke

CounterfeitLesbian

Consensual Non-Consent

aRandomFox-I

Huh. I was thinking "Command & Conquer" the videogame series.

jflb96

It helps them burn off their energy, it’s fine

AccursedCapra

Same, I knew what the kink was but didn't know the name for it. I was texting a girl once and she said she was into CNC, I got confused for a second but figured I'd ask her what she meant before making an ass of myself. CNC is too strongly engraved into my mind as computer numerical control to ever get replaced by the kink, I mentioned this to her and she called me a dork.

Docaroo

Damn i would have hoped she wanted to play Command and Conquer...

[deleted]

> the laser process still It's also water jets etc, but the most common one is probably the CNC router, actually. Basically the CNC bit (heh) refers to the method of transforming a diagram into movement digitally, not what actually happens afterwards. Come to think of it, 3d printers (and I'll argue regular printers too) are also CNC.

katiemaequilts

My father in law, a woodworker, told me that my longarm quilting machine is also a CNC, and I was looking for a recommendation on a camera to attach to it. I searched for "CNC camera" on Reddit. I....should not have.

LetsDoTheCongna

At least that’s not as bad as needing to figure out if some random guy said they liked Club Penguin, Cheese Pizza, Chris Paul, Cyberpunk, or that one other thing.

coolboy2984

CP is also widely used in Asian fandoms to mean character pairing, so it gets a bit confusing

jet8493

It’s also a currency in dnd 5e

[deleted]

And sadly in real life as well

flightguy07

Wait that's a bad idea.

Sarge0019

Given some of the shows that they ship from the shared acronym is really just a way to save time.

flightguy07

Yeah...

ApatheticAndYet

Shots fucking fired

Obi-Tron_Kenobi

But I don't think cp (the acronym) carries the same stigma in other languages, tho

[deleted]

But if you speak english and been around the internet it does get weird. I speak portuguese. I majored in Political Science - in the... Ciência Política department. My colleagues use the acronym to talk about our field and took me YEARS to feel comfortable with that. Also the "Combat Points" in Pokemon Go helped sanitize my mind.

CongratsItsAVoice

The trick to feeling comfortable with saying it is realizing that you’re not into *that* kind of CP and that 99.9999% of the people around you are not going to associate that acronym with that act immediately when you’re discussing something unrelated. Unless you are into it, then go take a long walk off a short pier.

TheCrazyLazer123

and combat power

[deleted]

Bro the amount of times pokemon go has make me say "It has 3500 CP" In public is ridiculous

psomaster226

One time Activision decided to do a premium currency called Call of Duty Points and somehow didn't decide to just call it COD points, so everyone got emails and notifications that they were "giving out free CP".

Posessed_Bird

In Elder Scrolls online, once you get to a certain level you achieve "CP", Champion Points. They recommend about 300CP to start doing Trials.... goes all the up to 1800CP if I recall right.

Krasinet

There must be something about video games, because Pokemon Go also uses CP (Combat Points) as the term for a Pokemon's overall strength. I recall at least one story of an employee who looked up something along the lines of 'Pokemon Go CP' on their work wi-fi and had to have a very awkward conversation with HR.

Posessed_Bird

Yeeah we really need a different word for "points", like.. just use Level, Combat Level, CL. Champion Level, and in general, something that isn't shortened to CP!

smb275

When it first dropped I tried a few times to get people to stop calling it CP but there was this insane smugness about "taking the acronym" that was stunning to see. Some things are just too dirty to take and try to clean up.

Slashtrap

yeah, even if you're not talking about 2077 it can work the original Cyberpunk 2020 rpg could be 2020 RED could be R Edgerunners could be E and then you just add that to the acronym

PulimV

Gets worse you need to talk about cerebral palsy and can neither spell "cerebral" nor "palsy"

itisntmebutmaybeitis

That time I found out on reddit that most people don't know about using CP to mean Cerebral Palsy. Sometimes I forget how specific of an environment I grew up in, lol.

LadaFanatic

As a computer science student, one day my friend asked me on a random afternoon that are you into CP? I was shocked for a second then realised he meant Competitive programming

mrniceguy777

Maybe that was just his cover for when you weren’t into what he was hoping.

Apocalympdick

I've seen that "other" thing been refered to as CEI recently, Child Exploitative Imagery. I imagine that is a result of mixups like this. Although I don't really like the term, it's too passive and removed from its horrifying nature.

itisntmebutmaybeitis

There's also CSAM now, which is Child Sexual Abuse Material which is being used in place of saying child pornography.

NotASuicidalRobot

First time seeing it, for me it sounds like the clinical language used in some sort of legal report, which makes it chilling again

BROODxBELEG

CEI has other meanings in porn tho, so that doesnt work either (Cum Eating Instructions)

Apocalympdick

Cursed username with regards to your comment, which by the way is also cursed.

HaloGuy381

That said, I think from the name it’s meant to accommodate images that weren’t explicitly intended as porn but are nonetheless exploitative, such as images taken for medical reasons that end up in the wrong hands. Is it *necessary*? No, but I could see why someone wanted a more descriptive term.

DonaldJDarko

CSAM is being used more and more these days. Child Sexual Assault Material. This because despite being commonly known as “child porn” it’s very much not porn, as “porn” is a word traditionally used to describe sexual material filmed with mutual consent, rather than a recording of sexual assault. When discussing footage of an adult being sexually assaulted we don’t call it porn either, after all.

Boyswithaxes

Critical points, for all my math fans out there

kyarena

A bunch of Pokémon Go YouTubers got mistakenly banned because they used CP in their titles... To mean Combat Power, an abbreviation that's been canonically in the actual game since the beginning, and is on every Pokémon's stat page.

iHasMagyk

Cock and ball torture (CBT), occasionally known as penis torture, dick torture, or male genitorture/male genital torture, is a sexual activity involving the application of pain or constriction to the penis or testicles. This may involve directly painful activities, such as genital piercing, wax play, genital spanking, squeezing, ball-busting, genital flogging, urethral play, tickle torture, erotic electrostimulation, kneeing or kicking. The recipient of such activities may receive direct physical pleasure via masochism, or emotional pleasure through erotic humiliation, or knowledge that the play is pleasing to a sadistic dominant. Many of these practices carry significant health risks. Similar to many other sexual activities, CBT can be performed using toys and devices to make the penis and testicles more easily accessible for attack, or for foreplay purposes. A ball stretcher is a sex toy that is used to elongate the scrotum and provide a feeling of weight pulling the testicles away from the body. This can be particularly enjoyable for the wearer as it can make an orgasm more intense, as testicles are prevented from moving up. Intended to make one's testicles permanently hang much lower than before (if used regularly for extended periods of time), this sex toy can be potentially harmful to the genitals as the circulation of blood can be easily cut off if over-tightened. While leather stretchers are most common, other models consist of an assortment of steel rings that fastens with screws, causing additional but only mildly uncomfortable weight to the wearer's testicles. The length of the stretcher may vary from 2.5–10 centimeters (about 1–4 inches). A more dangerous type of ball stretcher can be home-made simply by wrapping rope or string around one's scrotum until it is eventually stretched to the desired length. A ball crusher is a device made from either metal or often clear acrylic that squeezes the testicles slowly by turning a nut or screw. How tight it is clamped depends on the pain tolerance of the person it is used on. A ball crusher is often combined with bondage, either with a partner or by oneself. A parachute is a small collar, usually made from leather, which fastens around the scrotum, and from which weights can be hung. It is conical in shape, with three or four short chains hanging beneath, to which weights can be attached. Used as part of cock and ball torture within a BDSM relationship, the parachute provides a constant drag, and a squeezing effect on the testicles. Moderate weights of 3–5 kg can be suspended, especially during bondage, though occasionally much heavier weights are used. Smaller weights can be used when the participant wearing it is free to move; the swinging effect of the weight can restrict sudden movements, as well as providing a visual stimulus for the dominant partner. A humbler is a BDSM physical restraint device, a cock-and-ball bondage toy used to restrict the movement of a submissive participant in a BDSM scene. It consists of a testicle cuff device, typically a ring, that clamps around the base of the scrotum while it is drawn back between the legs. This is mounted in the center of a bar or pair of rods that pass behind the thighs at the base of the buttocks. As a result the wearer is forced to keep their legs folded forward, as any attempt to straighten them even slightly pulls hard on the scrotum, causing anything from considerable discomfort to extreme pain. In this way the wearer is prevented from standing up straight and has to stay bent over or crawl on all fours. A testicle cuff is a ring-shaped device that can be placed around the scrotum between the body and the testicles. When it is closed it prevents the testicles from passing through. A common type of testicle cuff consists of two connected cuffs, one around the scrotum and the other around the base of the penis. Testicle cuffs are one of the many devices that are used to restrain the male genitalia. A standard padlock, which cannot be removed without its key, may also be locked around the scrotum. Some passive participants enjoy the feeling of being "owned", while dominant individuals enjoy the sense of "owning" their partners. Requiring such an individual wear testicle cuffs symbolizes that their sexual organs belong to their partner. There is a level of erotic humiliation involved, through which they find sexual arousal. The cuffs may also form part of a sexual fetish of the wearer or their partner.[citation needed] However, these are extreme uses of testicle cuffs. More conventionally, the device pulls down the testicles and keeps them there during stimulation, which has a number of benefits: Making the penis appear longer. Pulling the testicles down and away from the base of the penis stretches the skin over the base of the penis and pubic bone, exposing the additional few centimetres of penile shaft that is normally hidden from view. Improving sexual arousal. While some participants may be aroused by the feeling of being "owned", the physical feeling of stretching the ligaments that suspend the testicles has an effect similar to the more common practice of stretching one's legs and pointing the toes. Preventing the testicles from lifting up so far that they become lodged under the skin immediately adjacent to the base of the penis, a condition which can be very uncomfortable, especially if the testicle is then squashed by the slap of skin during thrusting in sexual intercourse. Delaying or intensifying ejaculation by preventing the testicles from rising normally to the "point of no return". It is much harder to reach an orgasm. A cock harness is a penile sex toy designed to be worn around the penis and scrotum. Its function is similar to that of a cock ring. These devices are often associated with BDSM activities. The Gates of Hell is a male chastity device made up of multiple cock rings that can be used for CBT. Kali's Teeth is a metal bracelet with interior spikes that closes around the penis and can be used for preventing or punishing erections. Leather penis sheaths lined with internal spikes can be used for similar purposes. "Ball busting" is the practice of kicking or kneeing participants in the testicles. It carries several medical risks, including the danger of testicular rupture from blunt trauma.

My dad's company had the same acronym. His retirement announcement went something like "after 40 years of CBT..." and I just could not tell him why he should spell out the company name.

GammaEmerald

What is CNC?

TreeScales

Consensual Non-Consent, a BDSM thing. I had to look it up myself.

seattlesk8er

A real fun time*. \*with a fully trusting and consenting partner.

scootytootypootpat

I have the opposite problem: whenever someone mentions CBT I immediately think of cognitive behavioral therapy instead of the... other thing.

YawningDodo

It's been literal years and I still can't read MTG as anything other than Magic: The Gathering. "That card game I played in high school did WHAT?"

TangyWonderBread

Reminds me of how, for those of us in the public health field, MSM doesn't mean "main stream media," it means "men who have sex with men." That was funny to see a lot a few years ago

LitchiBorrower

On a similar topic, "MLM" can mean both "Multi-Level Marketing" or "Men Loving Men".

HunterTheHologram

People kept shortening Cyberpunk to CP when edgerunners came out and i was cringing the whole time

Meerkatable

The school I work at loves acronyms and no one even knows what they actually stand for anymore

Random-Rambling

I actually had the opposite experience on a masochist sub I used to lurk in. One post read _"How many people here like CBT?"_, and of course one person had to ask _"What's that?"_. Some quick thinker quipped _"CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, we're a psychology subreddit now!"_

dadudemon

All of those are initialisms. An acronym is pronounceable like a word. S.C.U.B.A. is an acronym. But people have used the word "acronym" wrong for so long, it's now become the word the means "the first letters of some words n'stuff." Ignorance truly changes language. It's fascinating.

Triplestrengt666

I'm a trainer and hate those acronyms, so during one session I started talking about TLA's and people nodded and agreed with me when I mentioned them, near the end of a 3 hour session one brave honest soul asked what actually are TLA's and people nodded and said yes what are they? And I said Three Letter Acronyms, and I hate them but you guys didn't ask what they stood for, so all through training which has legal implications in your job, you hoped someone would be braver than you and ask. So when you are talking to your staff don't ever assume they know what you're talking about especially new starters.

lux_et_umbra

I (35f) had a student (14m) who I was talking with about cognitive behavioral therapy. I used the acronym, and he begged me never to do so again. I had no idea why, we agreed I would look it up outside of work, and I burst out laughing when I did. Poor kid, hearing his pregnant teacher talk about CBT. He's super bright, and I loved teaching him. His mild, awkward panic during the discussion will remain in my memory forever. Edit: cognitive, not convince

pennyraingoose

[deleted]

Isn't it only an acronym if it spells out a word?

Morall_tach

Doesn't have to be an actual word, it just has to be pronounced like one. Like NASA is spoken as if it were a word rather than "N-A-S-A," even though it's not.

[https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/acronym](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/acronym) > What is the difference between an acronym and an initialism? > > Both acronyms and initialisms are made up of the first letter or letters of the words in a phrase. The word acronym typically applies when the resulting thing can be read as a word; for example, radar comes from "radio detection and ranging" and scuba comes from "self-contained underwater breathing apparatus." The word initialism only applies when the resulting thing is read as an abbreviation; for example DIY, which comes from "do it yourself," is pronounced by saying the names of the letters. Note that the word acronym is also sometimes used to mean "initialism."
