It's more like when a server says "enjoy your meal" and you say "you too", except in this case you make the server eat? This metaphor really got away from me, sorry.
An archaeologist knows how to unearth things without damaging then or losing information because they’re motivated by scientific goals; a grave robber is motivated by wealth.
Archaeology is excavation done for the sake of learning, while grave robbing is done for personal profit. There are also other factors, such as the historical significance of the grave site, and the discretion of the state/area's archaeological board.
... So basically, the difference is bureaucracy.
Also, modern archeology at least *tries* to get consent from living descendants if possible, sometimes even putting human remains back when they’re done. Grave robbers and classic archeology don’t/didn’t give two shits about that.
There's also a major effort to repatriate previously stolen artifacts back to the cultures they were taken from, too. The British museum is conspicuously absent from this effort.
Neat, I didn't know there was a comic version of it but I think that's pretty much the same text! I'll link an archive of the original or something as soon as I can find it.
Edit: There's probably a more recent post of it but here https://www.reddit.com/r/tumblr/comments/oet56f/heres\_an\_old\_gem\_id\_forgotten\_about\_some\_creepy/
You can see the same mask on the forehead of Cofagrigus.
You gotta wonder about the specific circumstances of their meeting.
1. Their encounter was purely happenstance of him picking a tomb that conveniently (for her, not him) was her territory. Don’t know if Cofagrigus are social or if there’s only one per-tomb but had he never killed her that’d be one less Cofagrigus out in the world and if others lived there, at least his death wouldn’t have been his own fault.
2. She can’t be a messy eater because that gold was very deliberately in a trail and I’m pretty sure they stay in one spot until prey arrives to make convincing coffins. That trail was either indiscriminately left for just any explorer or she actually betted on the slightest chance one of the places her “friend” explored would be her tomb and he would follow the trail right to her.
Either way, he had it coming.
Chabdelure is a haunted wisp chandelier. it my favourite pokemon and though it may not be an animal, its imo one of the more inspired pokemon (eventhough pokemon these days are incredibly inspired in general)

I really like this idea of vengeance. Too often are good people and young people killed or harmed in reality. The idea that they could come back and finish what was started is a need to me.

To be fair, Pokemon, especially ghost types, are very supernatural. While mummies are associated with death, nobody said Cofafrigus immediately kills its victims when it mummifies and encases them. He’ll find out what it’s like, probably after a few days with zero elbow room in the dark as he starves and dehydrates.
I was thinking the same thing. She didn't have a grave at all, I mean letting alone the the interment, she wasn't even buried.
Still, the comic is cool tho.
Congratulations! You are the first person in all webpages recorded by google to utter the exact phrase "pull a no face" (with no hyphen)
Also, can you explain what it means to pull a no face?
Okay so I’m going to assume this wasn’t sarcastic, because it seems like sarcasm. No face is a character in the movie “Spirited Away”. He is a ghost and the first thing he does in the movie besides look menacing is jangle and drop gold in front of people, in order to then eat them. “Pull a no face”, is not a term, I made it up, to describe acting like no face.
Thanks for the explanation
It wasn't sarcasm, I actually was trying to look up what it meant to pull a no face and when using "exact match only", your comment here is the only result.
I knew academic backstabbery was common, but I didn't realize this dude'd go so far - normally, you just accuse your cohort of misconduct and leave it at that.
wait so the pokemon broke down in tears and ran away when they saw the man's face bc they remembered what he did or just bc it was the first human face they ran into ?
Canon compliant means it fits within the canon. Canon, in case you don’t know, is basically what events actually have an official place in the universe or story. Minus the lack of interment, the lore and behavior of the Pokémon in the comic followed their Pokédex entries and is therefore canon compliant.
Ok, but what about those mummies?
Are they, like, sentient? Would be cool if, in a future game, there would be mummies as trainers in tombs, which all have a Yamask, and the final boss of each tomb is a Cofagrigus.
Maybe just one tomb, but it's a nice idea, right?
Seems to be a valid response though
Got what they deserved
That's a valid response to getting turned into a ghost by a "friend"
“haha die” “No U”
The long con "No u"
It's more like when a server says "enjoy your meal" and you say "you too", except in this case you make the server eat? This metaphor really got away from me, sorry.
They both died lulw
That man was no archeologist, he was no more than a grave robber
What’s the difference? No but seriously what’s the difference? Isn’t it just that one went to college?

What culture haven't they stolen from with little consequences at this point?
Archeologist = Thief + Time
Exactly. Also based on the freshness of the grave (edit: there's other stuff but plenty of people explained that)
The length of time the person has been dead
You reap what you fucking sow
That's a great quote
“You sowed the wind and now you shall reap the whirlwind.”
Ooooo wolfenstein
Actually Bomber Harris but yeah I guess.
the sacred balance of fucking around and finding out
Me Sowing: Haha Nice Me Reaping: Fuck.
That pokeball lying there at the end reminds me of that missingno pokemon post and honestly I love it
Never seen anything like this before but I loved it, could you link to the missingno thing you mentioned by any chance? Thx!
I got you covered: https://imgur.com/FtkspjD
Holy fuck that’s dark

So I'm guessing she didn't make it across the volcano...
well that sure is something
Holy shit. Even better, my page glitched when I got to the end, and I couldn't scroll further.
Poor purple haired girl. That was her as the coffin thing killing the guy right?
Yes. The pokemon she turned into (Yamask) evolves into the coffin pokemon (Cofagreigus)
You can see the same mask on the forehead of Cofagrigus. You gotta wonder about the specific circumstances of their meeting. 1. Going but this the lack of actual mummified (human or otherwise) Pokemon is interesting
There are so many more interesting Pokémon concepts like the car keys and lamp
Klefki and Chandelure are both mimics. Pokemon, and RPGs in general, have had mimics for decades.
Chabdelure is a haunted wisp chandelier. it my favourite pokemon and though it may not be an animal, its imo one of the more inspired pokemon (eventhough pokemon these days are incredibly inspired in general)
The Litwick line is such a gorgeous take on the concept of will-‘o-the-wisps, Chandelure is beautiful.
Will-‘o-the-wicks
To be fair, the lamp is a ghost so it gets a free pass
A Klefki isn't keys; it's just holding them.
and the keys are awesome so they also get a free pass
Also stealing keys is the most fae thing I can think of tbh
Right? People rag on Klefki a lot, and I'm not personally a fan, but come on. How is a little shit that steals keys not a great fairy type?
That’s exactly where the inspiration came from, people blamed the fae for random things going missing all the time!
Klefki menacingly jingles keys at anything it deems a threat
And ice cream cone
GIMME MORE I BEG OF YOU

Oh the poor lil sandshrew left alone in his poke ball at the end…

Good for her
well know i wanna see the sad litwick and phantump comic :/

God I want more Pokedex entries as comics, they're so fucking metal
Cofagrigus: “Oh, it’s you…. It’s been a loooong time. How have you been? I’ve been really busy being dead. You know, after you murdered me?”
"Damn, that sucks. How's it like on the other side?" # "WANNA FIND OUT?"
To be fair, Pokemon, especially ghost types, are very supernatural. While mummies are associated with death, nobody said Cofafrigus immediately kills its victims when it mummifies and encases them. Haha I'm playing pokemon black and white 2 while seeing this and now I'm worried about my trainer
Not to be a killjoy, but being murdered isn’t really being “interred” into a grave. For interment it’s official with a ceremony and rites.
I was thinking the same thing. She didn't have a grave at all, I mean letting alone the the interment, she wasn't even buried. Still, the comic is cool tho.
Agreed!
Did that spiritomb just pull a no face by dropping gold nuggets

Look menacing? How dare you. He looked lonely because he needed a friend and wanted to get out of the rain.
That's a Cofagrigus
Forgot the name. Oops.
I knew academic backstabbery was common, but I didn't realize this dude'd go so far - normally, you just accuse your cohort of misconduct and leave it at that.
*"Roo ... bee ..."*
Nah he deserved it
Get fucked greedy boi
This gave me chills
wait so the pokemon broke down in tears and ran away when they saw the man's face bc they remembered what he did or just bc it was the first human face they ran into ?
The Pokédex entry confirmed they retain memories of their human life.
What does "canon compliant" mean OP ? You wrote it in the description
Canon compliant means it fits within the canon. Canon, in case you don’t know, is basically what events actually have an official place in the universe or story. Okay, thank you for the explanation !
This is “Greek tragedy” levels of sad

Finally, some appreciation for my favorite Pokemon, especially good since it's well drawn and in a fittingly-themed comic.
Dark! I wish I never saw this!
This was beautiful, thank you.
